Excellent food with excellent service. It is a small lunch spot, with a shared parking lot with Trader Joe's so go early to find parking and tables. I thought it was really cool how they change their menu everyday. When We got there we put down our name for a table for two and we got seated with-in 20min. There is not much of a waiting area, you are kinda in everyone's way. Once you get a table you have to squeeze against other tables and customers to make your way. Nonetheless their costumer service is absolutely wonderful! I ordered the chicken salad and my supervisor ordered tomato soup with a turkey sandwich. All equally delicious! Atwaters has really spread their goodness over the Baltimore area. Originally, there was one restaurant/bakery in Belvedere Square and then they started to branch out. This one took over a former bank which was designed and built in the shape of an octagon (I can't remember how many sides there are since I'm usually overwhelmed by the smell of bread and coffee). The Kenilworth Atwaters has limited seating with about 15 tables indoors and 4 outside. If you want a table, try to get their before or after the lunch rush or you may have to wait for a table. Overall, awesome artisanal breads, baked goods, granola and anything that comes out of their oven. Of course, the coffee is fantastic, can't have a bread/pastry/carb without coffee? If you are dining, try the menu of sandwiches, salads or soups. Today, I had the breakfast sandwich which is an egg omelet, topped with hardwood smoked bacon and melted cheddar cheese on a nice, hearty flax bread. This is what I call breakfast!!! Last week, I had the gazpacho and it was fantastic. Chunky bits of tomato, cucumber, green onion topped with avocado and their croutons. It's heaven on a hot summer day. You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches. I enjoyed half a banh mi pork sandwich (Vietnamese style sandwich). A sliced pork, layered with shredded carrots, cucumbers and a tangy sauce on a chewy baguette. Plus they served the sandwich with these spicy, sweet pickles on the side. Perfect! This one also has a drive through window, I'm not sure if it's a limited selection at the window but it's worth checking out. We have been going to/getting takeout (and receiving great service) from Atwater's for years and last night was no exception. I can't thank you enough for providing good quality, affordable, and healthy food that my whole family loves. My almost four year old is a notoriously picky eater and she spent the whole entire meal last night going mmmm, yummy, and saying, "I love this turkey sammwich. Tastes sooo good!" She actually ate her whole turkey sandwich and then wanted some of my soup and ate a lot of that! And, if you know my lil pint size daughter, you will know what a big deal this is!! (I say this because they have a drive thru which should be relatively quick... Usually it's not). I usually always get the chicken salad sandwich which is usually on point minus the bread. The bread is usually hard, it kills my jaw trying to chew the bread crust. Like how hard is it to use fresh bread? Not trying to develop TMJ out here. And bruh, this place is smaller than your average Starbucks. Trying to maneuver inside this place is hard AF. If you're fan of being claustrophobic, you will love this place. Their rewards program encourages me to take pics of my food and share it to the world and in return I get free food (very) often. Fantastic, fresh breads. Good sandwiches. Great soups. Atwater's is a fantastic place for a light (or not so light) Saturday lunch. Flavors and ingredients are fresh, the menu sticks to well-executed basics, and many if not most of the ingredients are locally sourced. The space is a bit odd and small, having been a bank branch at one point, and it gets packed at lunch time. Outdoor seating is available, which is OK in nice weather, but it primarily boundaries and overlooks the parking lot. Service is pretty efficient and competent. Large groups will be a problem, as the dining area is cramped and the largest tables seat 4-5. The high ceilings of the building help offset the close quarters, though. On a hot day, the cold, freshly prepared gazpacho really hits the spot - tomato puree, cool cucumber, onion, and basil combine well in this not-at-all-watery version. Hot soups range from chicken prepared with locally-raised, free range birds to vegan roasted vegetable. All are served in generous portions (a cup here is the size of a bowl-sized serving anywhere else) along with a big chunk of crusty, fresh bread. Sandwiches are offered in halves and wholes, and though a bit pricey are pretty hefty, served on more of Atwater's own breads, and are accompanied by tart homemade dill pickle slices. Fresh brewed iced tea, coffees, teas, and specialty sodas are available. When you're done, the mini-eclairs are perfect little puffs of pastry filled with light cream (not heavy custard) and glazed with a rich chocolate ganache. And then there's that chicken salad. That. Effing. Chicken. Salad. GAME CHANGER. It's other wordly - heavenly - made by the gods themselves and I'm monotheistic. I've been told it's just standard ingredients, but I swear there's something else in there. I've had legitimate in-depth conference-like conversations with people about that chicken salad. It will change your soul. Seriously, the place is always packed and I love going there whenever I'm in Baltimore/Towson. They use responsible, local ingredients and they consistently have new, delicious things on the menu. If people complain about price, they need to consider the fact that quality ingredients cost a little extra, but they're worth it for taste and health. One must drive at extremely unsafe speeds to get here and back to work in Hunt Valley in under an hour, but it's SOOOOOO worth it! My friend said that I had to try the CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH. Atwater's is a tiny place near the Kenilworth Shopping Center, off Kenilworth Road. The menu is pretty small and is limited to a selection of soups, salads and sandwiches, plus some baked goods. The setup is a little odd - some tables outside (I can't eat outside when it's 90 degrees and sunny) and a scattering of high tops and very small tables with uncomfortable modern wooden benches and chairs inside. We each ordered a soup and half sandwich combo. I had the chilled gazpacho, which was amazing! Nothing like gazpacho to cool you off on a hot day. For my half sandwich I had the hummus and veggie combo, which featured tomatoes, red onion, romaine and cucumbers, served with some great homemade pickle slices. Atwater's makes their own bread, and this particular sandwich was served on sunflower bread, thick sliced and oh so delicious! Others at our table had chicken salad with almonds, and asparagus and hummus. I had a taste of each, and both were wonderful. Nice to know that deep in the heart of Towson - fried food capital of MD - you can get something healthy and delicious. I wish I had found Atwater's earlier. This experience was not good - and I truly regret that we didn't leave before ordering. I brought my parents and infant in her car seat and was told to sit wherever we liked. Once seated I was told I couldn't place her in several locations (baby seat, floor, etc) and was then told to switch to another table (the table I was told to move to was full - not possible). It's fine if you have rules or guidelines for infant seats, but at least give me one option that might be possible. I won't return to this location and definitely would not rate it as family friendly. More of a café and less of a bakery, the Kenilworth shop has table service and a quick takeout counter. The biggest difference here is that the sandwiches are made to order - not pre-made, like at Catonsville. Coworker M's plate: roast beef sandwich with horseradish mayo, romaine, and swiss cheese Her plate: B.A.L.T. - bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato on country bread with garlic mayo; gazpacho for later Atwater's gazpacho is consistently fantastic and flavorful with a broth that's the right viscosity and chopped vegetables that still have their individual texture and flavor. Normally I enjoy breakfast or lunch but decided that after reading reviews I couldn't resist trying a soup and a few other items. My fiancé and I ordered the chicken salad, grilled cheese with bacon, and shrimp soup. Service was surprisingly slow and served the items out of sequence. Despite the excellent reviews about soup, it was actually quite bland; very watery even for shrimp gumbo. The bread was also odd which is again unusual because I rave about the bread that they serve. The grilled cheese was good and the peach tea that I decided to try was also good unsweetened. I was not overly impressed and in fact very disappointed with my most recent visit. Stopped by for lunch because their menu was supposedly allergen friendly, however when I attempted to order the employee who was running the drive through at the time seemed unwilling to help me when I asked questions regarding what items on the menu were dairy-free. The employee actually made a joke about one item having "plenty of dairy for me" when asked if it contained dairy. Then once my boyfriend explained that we were still trying to determine what items were dairy-free, instead of assisting us, she replied "Oh ok, take your time." Inside Atwater's is surprisingly cozy and is in the parking lot of the Shops at Kenilworth. I loved my salad with the scoop of chicken salad. I would definitely go back for that but will opt for a bigger salad! Also had the mushroom and barley soup which was disappointing because it was under seasoned. My SO ordered the chicken pot pie which was flavored well, but dry, and he said it was the size of a hockey puck. He ordered the beef and mushroom soup which had large chunks of mushroom and beef.
