I didn't know I haven't reviewed Au La La even though I've been going to them back when they were at Downtown San Jose. It's now harder to visit since I moved 2 hours away, but when I can go, I always have a great experience finding a new dress! Every dress is so romantic, and a perfect fit for shorties like me! I love the fabrics used as they are light and airy. I do have to save up to afford a dress, but it's worth treating myself when I can. Customer service is always great as staff go above and beyond in helping me find the right dress. They are always patient when I'm trying to make a decision (which is hard when you want to buy them all). It's my favorite store. Period. It's always fun to shop with Aulala Design. The owner and everyone who works there are lovely and professional. There are lots of designs and prints to choose from. Since I started shopping with them, my closet is now not just full of black and white garments. I even found my wedding dresses here. Amazing dresses and even better customer service!! I came in today on a friend's recommendation, looking for a wedding guest dress and ended up leaving with 2 dresses because they are just so so pretty. These are handmade and are easily the MOST flattering dresses I've ever worn especially because I'm a shorter girl. The midi dresses I ended up buying fit me perfectly everywhere and are just the perfect length for my height (5'2) which is rare to find usually. I'm also a bit frugal when it comes to clothes shopping so I was a bit intimidated by the prices at first, however after trying these on I think they are truly worth every single penny. Absolutely gorgeous dresses, super form-flattering, and makes me feel so confident. The customer service here is just incredible too. The lady at the front (I wish I'd gotten her name!) was so warm and kind and went above and beyond to help me pick out some things she thinks I would like based on my preferences. I'm extremely indecisive when it comes to shopping for new clothes so I spent almost 2 hours in the store trying on so many dresses. But she was incredibly kind, patient, and did not hesitate to help me out every time I asked to try a new dress on or try something in a different size. It became a bit busy in the afternoon on a Friday but she was so attentive to me and every customer that came in as well. This was my first time coming here and will definitely not be my last. I have three dresses from Au La La Design: one I got in person, one I ordered online, and one using their newer custom dress process. I've gotten some of the most beautiful dresses I own through here! Their store has good selection, friendly staff, and the dresses themselves have great quality and soft, lightweight chiffon designs! Their custom dress option involves picking a dress silhouette they offer and choosing a new solid color fabric for it. They really went above and beyond when I ordered one by going out of their way to find a white lace option to match the quality of the original design. Once she sees a dress on you, she will pick out a dress/style that'll flatter you and make you feel beautiful. Definitely fell in love with all the pieces she's had me try on As someone on the shorter side, it's hard to find maxi dresses that aren't too long, it's great that I can go in to the boutique and get a dress that I wont have to alter. Sizes can be limited in the more popular dresses as this boutique does small batch restocks and new item drops, so you may need to wait a bit, but the quality and craftsmanship of each dress is well worth it. Au was so nice and enthusiastic about helping us choose dresses and encouraged us to try on many options. My mom and I had so much fun! One of my favorite local boutiques, I always get many compliments from people of all ages whenever I wear pieces from this store. Pros: The dresses are hand made and definitely made to last. Nothing like fast fashion pieces, these are very timeless and can be worn over and over. They don't vanity size. I'm a solid size 4 in this store (maybe a size 6 if I want something with more space), and I've been in many American stores. They have clothing for all occasions. Just last month they were selling ao dais for Chinese New Year, and they have many romantic spring-like floral patterns, velvet dresses, and solid colored dresses! I love that they have maxi dresses with petite proportions and height in mind. It's always so difficult finding longer dresses that don't cause me to trip! Literally the best dress store I've ever found. I'm obsessed with wearing dresses, and it's usually hard to find dresses for me (as I am 5'10 with a large chest), but the dresses here (although catering towards petite) still tend to be made with stretchy designs and straps that can be tied to fit each individual perfectly. The designs are all so unique and whimsical that they look straight from a fairytale! I usually never spend much money on clothes, but I've recently started valuing quality over quantity, and the dresses here are well worth the money. The material feels SO comfortable, and each dress is homemade. I came in one day and bought a beautiful dress that fit perfectly! I told my family member about the dress and they wanted one for themselves. While in the dressing room for fitting, they asked for a different size to try when they were instructed to get out in order for a customer who came in after could use the dressing room and that they'd had to wait. We left instead of trying on a different size, as inconveniencing one customer for another seemed bias! I've worked in retail and have always seen fitting rooms as a first come- first served basis with limitations to how many items you can bring in, but making a customer get redressed, leave the fitting room, and expect them to wait for another person (who came into store after us), and then use the fitting room again was bizarre. I loved my dress, it fits beautiful and is made wonderfully but this interaction made me uncomfortable. I couldn't help but feel like we were being treated unfavorably compared to the other customers! read more

I bought about 7 pieces total so far (and more in the future!) because it's getting hard to find flattering petite clothes, and this place is the only place I've found that consistently has quality size 2 dresses. I'm usually a size 0 in other stores. Customer service is great. Every time I went and was holding a lot of dresses to try on, the staff always helped put them in the dressing room. I have usually come into the store dressed in a big flannel, men's shirt, jeans, and hiking shoes, lol. So they don't stereotype customers according to what they are wearing at the time. read more

They fit perfectly on shorter and smaller people, and Au even does alterations to help the dress fit better. She always goes out of her way to give you suggestions to try on and make you feel beautiful The dresses normally range from $80-$110, theyre totally worth it! The materials are all super high quality, and they're so soft. I've never been too much of a dress person and I'm little more on the frugal side when it comes to buying clothes for myself (normally I shop at goodwill or Ross), but this place is somewhere that I feel that it's completely worth it to splurge on. I've bought at least 5 dresses here so far. It's like these dresses are made for my body type and it's great to not feel disappointed because something doesn't fit right. Customer service was great! Everytime I've been there I've always be welcomed. There was even once that one of the sales associates recognized me lol. They're always so kind and are willing to help me out. This is my friend's new boutique and I'm so happy to finally get to try on all of the clothes she design. She started out with an online store and I used to hate that I couldn't fit into most of her clothes. (I have curvy features) But she has been working really hard with her tailor lately to have more sizing for different types of bodies. She takes every feedbacks and suggestions very seriously and she is never pushy in making a sale. She's all about service & making sure you walk out happy. She wouldn't sell you an outfit that doesn't fit or doesn't look good on you. She's very patient , sweet, attentive, and friendly. Over the past year, I bought about 20 of her dresses. 5/5 for clothes and accessories 0/5 for customer service Visited this boutique for the first time last night with my mom to look for a dress for a wedding this weekend. The decor and the clothes are super cute! There isn't much selection but you can tell that the items are of good quality. They also had items other than dresses such as hair accessories and jewelry. Unfortunately the customer service that I experienced in the store, or lack thereof, was completely unprofessional. There were several people in the store and the only sales associate that was there did nothing to acknowledge any one person in the store. No one was greeted, no one was asked if they needed help, and even though I made eye contact with the sales associate she just looked away. I'm not sure if it had to do with the way that I was dressed (old sweater, plain sweats) which caused the lack of interaction but I was extremely disappointed because it's usually smaller boutiques like this one where I would expect the customer service to be 10 times better than that of a department store. I felt so unwelcomed. I honestly fell in love with the hairpins that this boutique had but the fact that we were not even being acknowledged by the sales associate was such a deterrent. I'll definitely come back another time because again I can tell that the clothes and accessories are of great quality and I do believe that the items are beautiful and pertaining to my tastes, but hopefully it'll be during a time when I'm actually made to feel like my presence is welcome. read more

If you are taller than 5'7"or wear larger than a size 8 or 10, then the selection becomes limited, but still worth checking out. If you are under 5'7" and are in the 0-4 range, then everything will fit you! Unique designs and delightful tailoring features that are not always apparent until one try's on the dress. This is a very cute and aesthetically pleasing store. However, I didn't feel like I was welcomed here. The one person that was working saw me and walked right past me towards the register desk without even acknowledging my presence. I like to shop and look around in peace but making your customers feel welcomed when they walk into your store makes our shopping experience a lot better and more likely to purchase something. It almost felt like they assumed I wasn't going to buy anything so there was no need to acknowledge me, which is really rude. I couldn't find a dress I liked because they were all tight and slim fitting so I opted for one of their jewelry item. So many cute selections by the way! I ended up getting a pair of earrings but sadly after just one day of wearing them, it turned my ears and the earrings green resulting in the backings to rust. It was $30ish I believe which isn't a complete waste of money but was still another disappointment to the entire experience here. read more

I will say, the dresses at this store are absolutely gorgeous. You can't deny that. But, last year in March of 2021, I went in looking for a dress for my birthday. At the time I was probably a size 8-10. This shouldn't matter but it's important to mention for the story. I walk in and am greeted by the woman at the front, and start to look around, and im so excited because I'm seeing so many dress options, but i noticed that the sizing only went up to a 6. I was a little bummed but no big deal. UNTIL, unprompted the woman from the front (who I assume is the owner) comes up to me and says "oh just so you know, we are planning to have bigger sizes soon! so there may not be much for you here yet" and immediately any sort of self esteem I had that day had vanished. Coming up to an 18 year old girl and telling her in a nice way that "your size isn't welcome here! but maybe some day, keep dreaming!" is incredibly gross and not a good way to make someone want to come back to do business with you. And there were two other younger, thinner girls who she didn't say the same thing to by the way. And sadly, it doesn't end there. So even though I felt pretty bad about that interaction, I almost wanted to prove her wrong for some reason. As if fitting into brandy melville sized clothing makes anyone better than anyone else. So I grab two dresses that I really liked, and had to go up to the woman to ask for the fitting room, which I was dreading. But I went up and she started to open a room for me. Before I can even close the blinds to the dressing room, she decides to let me know that "if you want the bigger size to that green dress, just let me know" and leaves me with that. Once again, another unprompted comment on my body and size that I didn't ask for. I feel so defeated when the green dress didn't lay correctly and the other dress I loved didn't fit bc of the strange zipper placement. When i stuck my head out of the room to ask for the bigger option for the green dress, the woman was talking to her male coworker, and it 100% seemed like she was talking shit about me to said coworker. I could tell from the way she glanced over at me when she finally acknowledged that I was asking for help. I left feeling so defeated and bad about myself, when all I wanted to do was find a dress for my birthday. I shouldn't have to leave a store feeling like the thin owner is talking shit about me behind me back. Do better please. Don't assume what size I am. Don't tell me unprompted about how you'll have my size some day. Do better. read more

I discovered Aulala Design when I was scrolling through my Instagram shopping webpage while trying to find inspiration for the perfect in-home Valentines look/outfit. This fashion brand is family-owned and they have a small boutique located in downtown San Jose, CA. They have dresses for all occasions and each dress is handmade with love/care. Also, each dress design is limited in quantities, so this shows that they truly want to provide high quality clothing for their clients. What really attracted me to Aulala Design was the way they seek to give back to their community and to ensure that their staff are treated fairly. As a fan of Aulala design, I truly love how when I try on these dresses that not only makes me look beautiful, but makes me feel beautiful from within. I would notice how the vibrant colors from the dresses just makes me smile in front of the mirror while twirling around in them. The dresses/clothing is pricey, but it's totally worth every buck. From just a touch of the fabric you can tell that they are made with super high quality, comfy, and will have lovegevity if fabric care instructions are followed.
