We love when sushi is served on a wooden plate it just tastes better that way, I don't know why! We got the crazy girl roll which was spider roll topped with spicy tuna and jalapeños. The warriors roll was amazing and had seared salmon and crispy onion/garlic on top. The tempura was super fresh and crunchy and the dipping sauce was perfection. Beer and sake was decently priced and we ended with the matcha cheesecake which came with green tea mochi. Amazing service and super nice staff! This place is super cozy and there is so much parking because it is located in a plaza.

We came in on a Wednesday night and we were able to sit wherever we liked. My favorite dishes here were the hamachi Kama and the agedashi tofu. Rolls were good too. We didn't try their nigiri's or sashimi but I'd come back to this restaurant if I was in the area craving sushi. Prices are average here for sushi in SF, 4 items for $66. They also happy hour but we didn't come in time for that.

Came in for dinner on a Tuesday. There was one other guest there. Clean space with K-pop music playing in the background. No TV's. When we sat down, we weren't offered physical menus or water, even though the physical ones were available. I'm fine with the QR codes but not my boomer dad. We didn't get water until maybe ten minutes after we sat down. The rolls came out FAST. We ordered: Hot King roll (spicy tuna, avocado, seared white fish, fried onion, sriracha) 4/5. Too much sriracha on top but otherwise it was good. Not too spicy. Double toro roll (Salmon Belly, Mango, Avocado topped W/Bluefin Toro & Fresh Wasabi) 4.2/5. This was so good! Fresh, light, balanced. It was good on its own but was texturally boring because everything was soft so I added a bit of crunch w the fried onion from the hot king roll, which I think made it that much better. Dragon roll: 2.5/5 meh. I didn't really like this one.. Something about it tasted off. I thought this was worse than an average dragon roll. Overall I give this place 3.5/5. I'd come here again for the double toro roll.

Spring time in San Francisco you can enjoy seeing the cherry blossoms starting to blossom and it takes you to a different heights around the city. I like to go on a Spring stroll and explore the different Heights around San Francisco whether it's Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights or Bernal Heights because they do have one thing in common: They all have a good variety of restaurants . In the cuts of San Francisco there is a hidden gem in Diamond Heights . Au Sushi offers lots of good different rolls and bento boxes . There is also a Happy Hour with 30% off of Alcohol and Apps everyday from 4:30pm-6:30pm. I got the tempura app and it had lightly battered shrimp and veggies . I also got the Warriors roll and it was delicious with shrimp tempura imitation crab topped with seared salmon, and onion crunch. The mango salmon had salmon, mango and avocado topped with salmon and mango. It was buttery ,savory, and a bit sweet. It had a great mango juicy flavor. I then had the Au roll which had imitation crab sweet cream topped with garlic mayo baked scallop and unagi sauce. It was warm and the scallop was savory along with the crab. I do enjoy sushi year-round . Au Sushi is a good neighborhood sushi restaurant where the flavor takes you to a different height in San Francisco when you want to get a bite. Try the sushi with mango and salmon along with some Takoyaki and Hamachi Maki Sometimes I grab a bento box with salmon teriyaki and wash it all down with some hot sake

Came here for valentines with my bf (forgot to submit my review). But they were one of the kindest restaurants I've ever been to. The vibe was nice, the food was really good, and the staff were so sweet. They even gifted me a little valentines set and gave me and my bf some extras on the house for the special day. I've been waiting to go back when I get the time.

I know I've said this about plenty of other places, but it feels especially true in this case - I doubt I would've ever discovered Au Sushi if not for Yelp. Quite literally, they had a direct hand in it, as it was the YEE that was held here last year that brought me out this way. For whatever reason, I've only been out this way a handful of times over the years/decades. Although, in my defense, it's not like there's a whole lot going on in Diamond Heights either... Tucked away in the corner of the relatively sleepy Diamond Heights Shopping Center, Au Sushi is one of the few eateries in the neighborhood. However, between their relatively late hours, wealth of parking spaces, and how they always seem to have seating available despite their modest size, it's also a cozy little gem that is super convenient whether you live in the area or you're driving in from elsewhere. Of course, that's to say nothing of the menu, which looks pretty typical on the surface (bento boxes, sashimi, sushi rolls, noodle dishes, etc.), but is rather eye catching once get deeper into what they have to offer. In particular, their nigiri and house sushi rolls not only sound good on the menu, but they look even better in the photos on Yelp! -- NIGIRI OMAKASE - Chef's Choice Nigiri (8 Pieces)...$68 I enjoyed this both times I had it, though it was better and more unique before the menu change (see below). That time, the stand outs were the Uni, Toro, Hotate, and Wagyu. This time, the only real stars were the Toro, Sake Belly, and the Amaebi. -- DOUBLE TORO ROLL - Salmon Belly, Mango, and Avocado Topped with Bluefin Toro and Fresh Wasabi...$21 Pretty solid, though, it'd be hard not to like a roll with two types of toro. Both the Salmon and Bluefin were equally delicious, though the latter stood out in part because of the size of the cuts. I was iffy on the mango, but these were perfectly ripe and added a nice sweetness. -- GOLDEN GATE ROLL - Avocado and Salmon Topped with Scallop, Ikura, and Soy Paper...$19 I'm a sucker for salmon and scallops in sushi rolls, so this practically had my name on it. Thankfully, it was great! The scallops were large, fresh, and had a nice sweetness while the salmon and avocado made for a classic pairing - yum! -- CHICKEN KARAAGE - Crispy Japanese Fried Chicken...$15 Ehh...not bad, but nothing special either. The chicken was decently crispy on the outside and somewhat moist on the inside. It could've used a little bit of seasoning, but at least they weren't all that oily and the aioli helped to add some flavor. -- KING DRAGON ROLL - Soft Shell Crab, Imitation Crab Topped with Unagi, Avocado, Tobiko, and Unagi Sauce...$18 Cooked rolls aren't always the greatest, but this was really good. The soft shell crab was flavorful, had a nice crunch to it, and was complemented well by the imitation crab and the unagi, which was meatier than I expected. One thing worth noting is that in the time since Au Sushi opened, the menu has been tweaked. Not significantly, as most things are listed the same as before, but since my first visit here for the YEE last year, only a half dozen or so things have been removed/altered. Unfortunately, that includes their namesake AU SUSHI ROLL, which previously had Salmon Skin, Cucumber, and Shiso topped with Imitation Crab, Monkfish Liver, Scallions, and Special Sauce, that tasted AMAZING. Now, it has Imitation Crab Sweet Cream Topped with Garlic Mayo Baked Scallop and Unagi Sauce - not horrendous by any means, but definitely not as appealing to my tastebuds. Still, despite the loss of my favorite roll here (or almost anywhere, for that matter), Au Sushi is quite the gem. I can't really speak to their noodle dishes or bento boxes, but they seem perfectly fine based on what I've seen other tables get and how they read on the menu. Perhaps I'll try them at some point (they have a "happy hour" where many of their cooked dishes are discounted), but even if I don't, I'm happy to keep coming back for the sushi and nigiri omakase, especially considering how easy it is to come here!

Tried Au Sushi on a Thursday night, easy parking since it's located in a shopping plaza and was seated right away. We ordered several items, rolls, and dishes. Agedashi tofu was not very good though, not fried correctly and didnt have the typical sauce. Hard to describe the food here, maybe "standard" or "generic"? Kind of like getting hot food from the Japanese market, better presentation though. Not that that's a bad thing, but I want to say the food was ok but nothing that would make me rush to come back.

We got the nigiri combo and it was pretty good! The lion king was good as well. Great sushi, super fresh, super delicious. Good service, it's not a big place. There are about 5-10 tables. the bathroom is outside so you need a key. Lots of parking!

Was craving sushi on my first trip ever to California and found this cute gem. Our sushi was delicious - one of the best I've had. The restaurant was very cute inside and had adorable decor all around and great music. service was fast. I can't remember what rolls we got but I'm sure whatever you get will be yummy.

This is a familiar spot for me. A former Burger King over twenty years ago, it evolved to this neighborhood eatery, offering lunch and dinner in the heart of Diamond Heights. They opened in August 2022, a challenging time as things are just opening up again. It was on my radar after seeing several hot and new Yelp notices and seeing Cherylynn N.'s (https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=eKUGKQRE-Ywi5dY55_zChg) positive review. I was accepted an invite to and attended a recent YEE here on a Thursday late afternoon. Besides the YEE gifts, I ordered a few other menu items and, as I later found out, off-menu items to take home. Being tired after leaving the office, I decided to combine the gifted item with a few a couple of the items while saving some for future meals later in the week. Here's what I tried: 1. Agedashi tofu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=SNgtkhdENWHq2y9bzP0fVg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - There were a good number packed in the box and they were neatly stacked in a clamshell paper box. I liked that the sauce was put on the side. I only ate one while fresh that evening and I enjoyed the flavors with the dipping sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=DBaQOqR7HyhKTLa3exTSwQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). 2. Yakitori beef tongue and scallops (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LimhiL91k7QL1RCECaNbNw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - I ate these a few days later, reheating them in my toaster oven; they were packed nicely on a bed of lettuce and lemon garnish (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=EXU7iocMZLTjwRpPRJ3OMA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I placed them on foil and added a few drops of water in reheating them at 250F with the foil folded up but not covered so that they wouldn't steam (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=nIoKSkeQuoORfYdTQQfcnw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). The beef tongue held up well and I liked that the seasoning was not salty. The scallops were pretty good too but a bit of the ocean flavor came into play so I suggest eating this fresh and not storing and reheating. 3. Unagi and avocado handroll and spicy tuna handroll (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RZ0yiflIQ341nX5_RtGJ6Q&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - These were my off-menu orders as I didn't see them on the online or website menu. I enjoyed both of them as the rice had a nice shari flavor and was still moist (some may find it too moist). I was impressed by the spicy tuna filling (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0Eb56VH3ZoXHPfmw4SoUAw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). the flavor and the portion generosity. A young lady took my order by phone as suggested in the YEE invite for my check-in as well as my takeout order. Justin greeted me, gave me my check, and graciously took my credit card for payment. I asked him a few questions about business and he explained that they opened late summer of 2022, not an easy time to start a business. My only suggestion is, for off-menu items, please tell the customer the pricing and confirm that they still want it before accepting their order. I was a little surprised when, looking at my itemized receipt, I saw an item as "2 Rock N Roll $24.00". Using my higher math, I scratched my head and pondered whether I'd normally order handrolls at $12.00 each. Perhaps, consider putting hand rolls, if you're willing to make them, on your menu so the diner can decide. Will likely try the ramen or udon next time.

Au Sushi was a really nice surprise! It's located deep in the sleepy corner of the Diamond Heights plaza and feels like a well kept secret. My friend and I spent several minutes perusing the menu and choosing a wide variety of rolls to share amongst friends at a dinner party later. We were very impressed that each roll was made fresh and we were also very appreciative that the vegetarian rolls extended beyond basic veggie maki rolls. Our favorites of the night were the Fish Tacos (the crispy tempura seaweed base was chef's kiss), the Double Toro (soooo buttery!), and the Walnut Roll (very pleasant vegetarian twist on a dragon roll). Honestly though, everything was of really good quality. They also paid great attention to still presenting the sushi very nicely despite it being a to-go order. Pricewise, it'll probably be about $30 a person if you stick to special rolls and appetizers. Some of the specials like the chirasi bowl or chef's platter will cross $50 easily.

He was unconscious, shaking, thrashing, sweating and groaning. The staff immediately came to my side (as well as customers) to help me. They called 911 at my request, and once the EMTs arrived they were helpful and truly concerned. Not just trying to get us out of the way. Shaking, I tried to hand over my credit card while the EMTs took my husband on a stretcher. The manager said "No, no.. it's fine, it's fine," with the kindest look in his eye. This would have been our third visit because the food is sooooo good. But now I'm basically going to be their cheerleader to anyone who will listen. I could not be more grateful for their grace and aid while I was in near hysteria. Kindness still exists. And so does genuinely good food. The ambiance is extremely loud in there and the tables are very close together. So if you're looking for a quiet, less crammed space, this isn't it. The actual restaurant looks very nice, but not sure why the bar seats face a storage area with clear windows. As for the food, the calamari was delicious, they give you whole pieces of little squid. The ramen broth is very hearty and bold. When I was halfway through, it became a little too much. I do wish you're able to pick the thickness of noodles. I didn't like the thin noodles with the ramen. It actually reminded me of instant ramen. But to each their own with noodle thickness. I just wish there were options. I almost wish there was something else in the ramen to balance out the flavor besides more bold flavors from the pork and egg. It does the job but wasn't a huge wow factor. As for the service, they are pretty attentive. I didn't like how one of the servers kept hovering around the entire time grabbing anything they could off the table. The second we took off the wrappers of the chopsticks, they grabbed it. Usually I like the table cleared out to make space but it was the constant hovering that was awkward.

Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed by its complexity and comforting warmth, and we have continued to crave it long after the winter season. We were recommended a spot in the Japantown Center Mall, but settled on Hinodeya after checking Yelp. It turned out to be a great choice. We were greeted upon entering the restaurant and someone rang what to believe to be a gong?! It was a very fun addition to our experience. We were shown to a table and started browsing the menu. The interior was very clean and neat. There are plenty of options, including some for vegetarians/vegans. My two vegetarian friends ordered both of the vegan/vegetarian ramen options and were raving about them. I ordered the Hinodeya (house) ramen and it was delicious. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were perfect. The table is set with crispy garlic or onions (can't remember) and a chili blend which were yum on top of the ramen. My friends ordered the spicy miso ramen and was satisfied despite it not being very spicy. We had great service the entire time and the prices were very reasonable. Hinodeya is a gem I will be revising on future trips to San Francisco!

Decided to try the Happy hour at this Japanese place and was blown away…read more Its a small place, maybe 8 tables tops squeezed into this narrow space but it was fantastic. Gretted when we entered, we slid into one the few open tables. The decor was charming, and we were quickly gretted by our server with menus and water. My sister and I split some appetizer items so we could try various items, and every single dish was a taste sensation. The gyoza was crisp on the outside while packed with a savory meat, drizzled with sauce. The Karaage was tender chicken encased in a light fried pankostyle casing, also drizzled with a sauce, and the flavor, each bite was satisfying without being too filling. The Kabocha Kor, were panko fried pumpkin patties with a tonkatsu style sauce that brought the taste buds to a more earthier place . The Tokoyaki, were tender fried octopus balls in a sauce that I would have been happy to hunker down with a large bowl of and just crush, easily my favorite bite, which is saying something as no bute was bad . We closed with an order of Hotate, which was a grilled scallop skewer. Somewhere between sea and bay scallops in size, they were an awesome cap to the dining experience. They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I hopped on the BART and got off at Powell Street. I stopped by Hinodeya Ramen for a Vegan ramen…read morecalled Creamy. It was made so well, with a very flavorful broth. The veggies were endless, making each last sip enjoyable. The place was bustling with workers, but the host seemed a bit brusque. She might need a little training in good manners. Instead of welcoming us, she opened the door for herself without holding it for us, which made us hold our own door. She just left our menu without saying anything and disappeared. She could have asked the next person, who happened to be sitting side by side at a two-person table, if they were free to share. They were already done watching a video together. We had to squeeze in and awkwardly say, "Excuse me," while getting an eye roll. The host could have avoided that awkward situation by letting us know we were using the table next to them. Also, be ready to pay an automatic 5%. Tips start at 20% and go up, so at least 25% is expected. The service was okay, but the food was fantastic. The workers seemed a bit lazy and avoided us until it was time to pay. That's when they suddenly became incredibly helpful. It's surprising how tipping changes their mood so quickly. I can tell because she watches me as I select my tip, and her eyes change.
