Their take on it included panko on the outside and a combo of siracha mayo and hoisin sauce with little slices of mango. Very tasty with a nice little kick. We ordered the classic ramen. Rude and completely unnecessary experience with the host: My husband, young daughter, 2 friends and I dined at this location this Saturday. We were seated at 2 tables pushed together for our party of 5. The host seated us and when he brought out waters, looked at us and snapped asking where the fifth person was. I simply replied that my husband went to put some money in the meter for the car and will be back shortly. The host immediately responded very rudely that he wouldn't have seated us if everyone wasn't there. The waitress came and gave us our menu and said she would be back in a couple minutes to take our order. A few minutes later, the host came back and rudely pulled our tables apart saying he was giving it away. He walked away before we could say anything as we were in shock. The waitress then came and took our orders and the whole time we were very uncomfortable and unsure what was happening. The host then came back, I told him that we had already ordered for 5 people and we were waiting for our food. I asked him what was going on with our table and he got in my face, insisting that I had told him there were 5 people but that one wasn't there. Although he never asked if everyone was there when he first seated us. He then repeatedly returned to our table every few minutes, telling us that he was giving our table away--even though we were already seated, had ordered, and were simply waiting for our food. Eventually I told him to leave us alone and he brought over the manager. My husband had returned at this time and our food has not yet even arrived. The manager apologized, which I appreciated, but the host never apologized for his behavior. I completely understand the need to manage tables and make sure a party is present before seating. But once we were seated and had ordered, the way this was handled was incredibly rude and unnecessary. It was especially disappointing because our friends were visiting from out of town, and this interaction put a real damper on what should have been a nice meal together. His behavior of getting into my face and snapping at us when I was calmly trying to explain we had already ordered, in front of my young child, caused her to feel scared and nervous. We stopped by Ippudo San Francisco right when they opened, so luckily there was no wait. The restaurant itself is nice and somewhat spacious, although the table for two can get crowded pretty quickly once all the food comes out. We ordered the Akamaru Modern Ramen and Spicy Shrimp Tempura. The ramen noodles were great, with a nice texture, and the broth was flavorful and satisfying. One thing to keep in mind is that the ramen doesn't come loaded with toppings. Items like the egg are extra, which can add up considering the restaurant is already on the more expensive side. The Spicy Shrimp Tempura was also good and made a nice addition to the ramen. Parking is probably one of the bigger challenges when coming here. It's San Francisco, so definitely plan ahead. The 5th and Mission parking garage may be a good option if you don't want to spend too much time looking for street parking. Overall, good ramen, great noodles, and a nice atmosphere. One of my favorites Ramen locations which happens to be near by the Powell Bart station. Once inside you will be pleasantly surprised after passing the curtains to see a seating of tables and a vibrant ambiance. We ordered edamame for the table, it comes with a yuzu like salt. Came here after a long day at the Super Bowl experience. We did a walk-in for four. The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. If this review was only based on the food, I'd give it a 3/5 but service bumps it to a 4/5. We arrived 30 minutes before closing but they kindly accommodated us and gave us exceptional service! Our waitress was so friendly! I got the Nirvana Classic Ramen and it was delicious, but pricey for the smaller portion. Also $4 extra for an egg is crazy...I wasn't paying attention to the prices and said yes when they asked if I wanted to add one, so that's on me though. We also got the Takoyaki, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Abura Chashu Rice - all yummy! Ambiance leans more elegant (but no dress code) with soft lighting and cool decor - there's a huge abstract tree installation set in the middle of the room going up to the ceiling, very cool. As for service, we really appreciated how attentive the waitstaff was towards us, especially given how close to closing it was.
