    Tokyo Ramen
    Laney C.

Got a Tokyo ramen and honestly was not a fan of the broth but that's probably just a personal preference. It lacked the umami flavor of ramen broth which I really love in a bowl of ramen. The calamari was good tho and had great texture!

A super cute little spot around the corner from some local music. Stopped here for dinner and got seated immediately! The food was cooked right in front of me (bar seating) and boy did it look tasty. The tokyo hit the spot! Exactly what I wanted from the style. Will be coming back for that crazy chicken one sometime!

i'm so glad I discovered this place. The menu feels so creative, I've never seen this many chicken Ramen dishes before the Ramen soup was very flavorful, and the chicken tasted great. The skin was so crispy, although it got a little soggy by the end. I liked all the toppings and the egg as well. The inside is very dark, but the seating is nice, with many different types. The waiter was helpful. I'm definitely coming again, so many menu items I want to try.

Walked by so many times and finally tried it. Went with their miso spicy ramen and cucumbers. The ramen and broth were cooked perfectly. The Broth was so flavorful and the ramen was perfectly chewy. Just the way I liked it. The cucumbers were refreshing and marinated well. Def coming back!

Good ambiance, right on the edge of Hayes Valley. Cute spot with decent seating, moderately loud. Ramen did feel a little expensive overall (my bowl ended up being $25 with tax & tip). However, it is a solid bowl of ramen. The shio (salt) paitan ramen has a delicious yuzu flavor to it, with a rich but refreshing broth. I enjoyed the noodles which had a good chew! Service is fast and as expected. Would go back!

the flavor of everything here was absolutely amazing. I've never tasted more rich and flavorful ramen broths than these, especially the soy sauce tori paitan, which is their signature ramen. its broth had this savory, smokey flavor that was so delicious and addicting, and the whole braised chicken leg was perfectly tender and fell off the bone. we also ordered the tan tan spicy miso, the shio (salt), and the dry spicy ground chicken tossed noodles. they all had an incredible blend of flavors and spice and we loved the chewy texture of the ramen as well. we got the fried calamari to start which were good and crispy, but nothing too special and was a pretty small portion. we came here for dinner before going to the symphony which was perfect since it was right across the street. It's also very convenient to join the yelp waitlist from your phone ahead of time-our wait was around 10 minutes at 6pm on a saturday, so it wasn't too bad at all! overall, we were highly impressed by the food and enjoyed our experience at this little ramen joint! It was very cozy yet bright inside, and the service was quick. would definitely come back again!

    Tomato Ramen

The food and atmosphere are decent, but was expecting a bit more attention to detail for the price. Ordered the tomato ramen with corn added on. The flavors were wonderful, however, there was hardly any broth or chicken which made the dish feel unbalanced. The corn edition was pricey ($2.50), and although they gave a very generous amount, it was way too much for the dish, again making it feel unbalanced. Additionally, the fresh tomatoes were not ripe. The restaurant has a very warm and cozy feeling, and the wait staff were kind and attentive. Overall, considering how many Ramen options there are in the area, I will likely not be coming back here.

Great ramen place on Fillmore. Usually a bit crowded, especially on a Friday or weekend dinner rush, but there's a tablet inside where you can join the yelp waiting list and stroll around Hayes for the 15-25 min wait. The Signature Ramen is a must-try. It's a bit pricey for ramen but it includes a giant chicken leg that's fall-of-the-bone level of tenderness.

Tokyo Ramen - the broth is soooo flavorful

We didn't have any reservations on a Friday night but we got seated pretty quickly at a table for two. I ordered the signature Tokyo ramen and my husband ordered the tomato one. Both were delicious - the broth was very flavorful. I wish our server was a bit more attentive and friendlier, she didn't greet us with any smile when she approached our table - Something to improve on.

Food and service was great. The broth was really flavorful. The interior is very clean and the service is fast but not hurried.

It's kinda shocking that it's taken me so long to try this place. I love ramen and I'm often in the neighborhood for arts events nearby. Finally decided to give this place a try after a Frameline movie and loved it! Soy Sauce Tori Paitan: The chicken leg quarter is unmistakable. Something I haven't seen in other ramens. It's so tender, almost like the texture of duck confit. Very rich and tasty. The broth as well is rich and delicious! Can't believe they get all that flavor from chicken. The noodles were springy and chewy. A really satisfying bowl, probably because of all the protein, so you don't really need to order any other food to accompany this.

Bustling restaurant with a nice vibe. They have a good selection of ramens and a few other dishes as well. This classic soy sauce ramen was flavourful but the noodles were outstanding. Bouncy. Chewy and delicious. I also tasted the tan tan miso ramen and that was probably my favourite. Good amount of numbing spice yet still creamy. Definitely stop by on the next rainy day!

Was very impressed by this place! Came as a group of 4 at about 8pm on a Saturday. No wait time and everything we ordered was unique and delicious!

Since you do not take reservations (which you should), what is the wait in line for a larger party - like 6? Thinking of coming at 630 tonight; but not is we have to wait for 30 minutes or more on the street:(

Are you open on july 4th?

Yes, we open at 5 today. Please also follow us on Instagram. Hope to serve you tonight. https://instagram.com/nojoramen?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Can you order online the ramen Taipan with roasted chicken leg? I don't see it on the online menu.

You can only get that at the restaurant.

Is the happy hour on Fridays from 5-6 too?

Hi, I think I left my credit card there last night but there's no phone number that works. Is there someone I can contact?

Has anyone been on a saturday for lunch when they open-is there a line or wait? Thank you!

When it first opens on a Saturday for lunch there is no line or people waiting.

I am on the yelp app and can't find where to check the wait time / put our name on the waitlist?

It's in the main page of Nojo on the Yelp app. Just barely scroll down, and it says "live waitlist". Add yourself there and you'll be able to see where you are in line.

Do they have any gluten free options?

    Yes

Do they take reservations? Is it busy Sunday early evenings?

No reservations but you can check-in / queue up on Yelp. If you go when it opens you should be ok. The Yelp queue is very helpful, will give you a good idea of the wait time

    Gluten free noodles?

Unfortunately, we do not have gluten free noodles.

I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Place is not the safest, I saw some folks trying to open the parked cars on that street hoping to find one that was unlocked . Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

The ambiance is extremely loud in there and the tables are very close together. So if you're looking for a quiet, less crammed space, this isn't it. The actual restaurant looks very nice, but not sure why the bar seats face a storage area with clear windows. As for the food, the calamari was delicious, they give you whole pieces of little squid. The ramen broth is very hearty and bold. When I was halfway through, it became a little too much. I do wish you're able to pick the thickness of noodles. I didn't like the thin noodles with the ramen. It actually reminded me of instant ramen. But to each their own with noodle thickness. I just wish there were options. I almost wish there was something else in the ramen to balance out the flavor besides more bold flavors from the pork and egg. It does the job but wasn't a huge wow factor. As for the service, they are pretty attentive. I didn't like how one of the servers kept hovering around the entire time grabbing anything they could off the table. The second we took off the wrappers of the chopsticks, they grabbed it. Usually I like the table cleared out to make space but it was the constant hovering that was awkward.

This dish stands out as one of the most memorable and flavorful offerings we have experienced. The rich, creamy broth delivers a perfectly balanced umami depth, harmoniously combined with subtle heat and aromatic spices that create an indulgent yet refined dining experience. Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed by its complexity and comforting warmth, and we have continued to crave it long after the winter season. The Umami Creamy Tan-Tan-Men soup represents a true highlight of your culinary repertoire. We were recommended a spot in the Japantown Center Mall, but settled on Hinodeya after checking Yelp. It turned out to be a great choice. We were greeted upon entering the restaurant and someone rang what to believe to be a gong?! It was a very fun addition to our experience. We were shown to a table and started browsing the menu. The interior was very clean and neat. There are plenty of options, including some for vegetarians/vegans. My two vegetarian friends ordered both of the vegan/vegetarian ramen options and were raving about them. I ordered the Hinodeya (house) ramen and it was delicious. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were perfect. The table is set with crispy garlic or onions (can't remember) and a chili blend which were yum on top of the ramen. My friends ordered the spicy miso ramen and was satisfied despite it not being very spicy. We had great service the entire time and the prices were very reasonable. Hinodeya is a gem I will be revising on future trips to San Francisco!

They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

The veggies were endless, making each last sip enjoyable. The place was bustling with workers, but the host seemed a bit brusque. She might need a little training in good manners. Instead of welcoming us, she opened the door for herself without holding it for us, which made us hold our own door. She just left our menu without saying anything and disappeared. She could have asked the next person, who happened to be sitting side by side at a two-person table, if they were free to share. They were already done watching a video together. We had to squeeze in and awkwardly say, "Excuse me," while getting an eye roll. The host could have avoided that awkward situation by letting us know we were using the table next to them. Also, be ready to pay an automatic 5%. Tips start at 20% and go up, so at least 25% is expected. The service was okay, but the food was fantastic. The workers seemed a bit lazy and avoided us until it was time to pay. That's when they suddenly became incredibly helpful. It's surprising how tipping changes their mood so quickly. I can tell because she watches me as I select my tip, and her eyes change.
