Came here on a Thursday evening for dinner with a friend and got seated right away at the bar. We ordered cucumber salad and agedashi tofu as appetizers to share. Tofu sauce came with mushrooms and was super flavorful. My friend got the veggie ramen, which she really enjoyed. I got the signature Tsukemen (dipping ramen), which was super flavorful and delicious. Egg was funny, noodles were thick and chewy, pork was soft. Everything you want in a dipping ramen. Service was quick, portion sizes are good, prices are reasonable. Highly recommend giving them a try if you're craving ramen (especially dipping ramen) in the area!

Ahhh I love this Tsukemen spot!! Super solid, excellent service. I love that they have a location closer than San Mateo. They have happy hour from 12-6! Pretty generous- love the sake flight and daily cup of sake. Will come back!

I really enjoyed the dishes I ordered! We had the Calamari - it was crunchy and the garlic chili oil is a nice touch. The dipping noodles were so good! It was also very filling - we had enough leftovers for a 2nd meal. I recommend joining the yelp wait list early - the line gets pretty long! The restaurant is on the smaller side - we sat at the bar table and it does get a bit tight

First experience with tsukemen despite being a big fan of ramen and it was excellent. I would not be able to say enough about how good the noodles are here. The texture is perfect and they are so chewy and bouncy. Truly the highlight of the night. For appetizers, we tried the sandstorm calamari and the chicken karaage. Both had an excellent fry and the calamari was excellent with the included garlic mixture that added a nice kick. One note here, the sauce for the chicken was not enough for the amount of pieces. The tsukumen was excellent. The dipping broth was packed with flavor and the consistency allowed it to stick to the noodles perfectly. I will note that I preferred the regular chasu over the sou-vide version. Service was good, attentive and food was out fast. Overall, this place was excellent and I will be back. Overall: 4.9/5

Really enjoyed Taishoken in the Mission on a chilly SF night. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was friendly and attentive, and the ramen was exactly what we were craving. We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and it hit the spot. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly salty, the thin noodles had a great spring to them, and the chashu pork was incredibly tender and basically melted in your mouth. Also don't sleep on the dessert. Dessert at a ramen spot sounds random, but trust me here. The matcha cream pie was fantastic, and the mochi donut with ice cream was equally good. They also have a great sake selection. Be sure to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist before heading over because this place definitely gets busy.

My friend and I found this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try! We started with the miso cucumber and spicy hand roll as appetizers, and both were really tasty. The cucumbers were super fresh and crunchy, and the miso flavor wasn't overpowering. The hand roll was delicious too -- honestly, if we had a bigger appetite, we probably would've ordered a few more. For mains, we ordered the two most popular dishes: the tsukemen and the mazesoba. The tsukemen noodles were thick and tasty, and the broth was rich and flavorful, but I definitely found myself wishing there were more toppings or flavors to switch things up with each bite. After about halfway through the bowl, it started to feel repetitive just dipping the same noodles into the same savory broth over and over. My friend felt similarly about the mazesoba. It was flavorful at first, but once everything was mixed together, it became a bit heavy toward the end. That said, if you've never tried either dish before, I'd still recommend checking this place out! The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly, and I liked that you could join the waitlist ahead of time. Just be prepared -- parking in the area can be tough. We probably wouldn't come back since the noodle dishes weren't totally our personal preference, but I'm definitely glad we tried it.

Must orders: chicken karaage and tsukemen. The karaage is some of my favorite fried chicken in the city, and the tsukemen has the perfect chew, with clean flavor balanced with a rich dipping broth. Taishoken is a top recommendation for people visiting the city -- the service is always attentive and warm, and makes for a casual date spot or friendly get together.

We were having a celebration dinner for my friend so she made a reservation. It was a good amount of busy for a Friday night dinner. The interior was clean. Mazesoba (3/5): This soupless ramen was topped with minced garlic, roast pork chashu, bamboo shoots, red onion, green onion, parm cheese, seaweed, and poached egg. I asked them to remove the parmesan cheese because I didn't think that would've worked. The entire dish was pretty salty. The portion was huge. The noodle texture and size was good. Overall, it was a decent try. Maybe I'll come back to try the tsukemen. Service was good.

Tasty food and great service! All food came out nice and hot. Tonkotsu and Chicken ramen were perfect portion sizes, with chewy ramen noodle. So good. Chicken karaage is large! We're used to seeing bite-sized karaage, so we were surprised at the size of theirs (see pic). It came with a mayo sauce and a lemon. The TSK fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The soft drinks were not too sweet. Our water never went empty! The servers were extremely attentive and friendly. Overall great experience. Plenty of parallel street parking in the surrounding area, even if you have to walk a block or two. Very easy to find a spot. All street parking has parking meter with an option for mobile payment, card, or coins. We love all the surrounding shops to explore before/after eating too.

Chashu bowl. Had a poached egg on top. Hadn't seen that before but it worked.

This is just an updated review to share my appreciation for how consistently good this restaurant has been since it opened. We've eaten here regularly since 2022 and we haven't had anything less than excellent meals every time. To my knowledge, it's still one of the few places you can get Tsukemen (dipping ramen) in the city but the regular options are fantastic too. (As an aside, because I've seen a bad review here based on the noodles being cold for the dipping ramen, this is how the dish is supposed to be. You dip them into the broth to get the full flavor and it's meant to be eaten relatively quickly. because the volume of the soup is smaller, and you're dipping cold noodles into it, this will cool down the broth faster than regular Ramen. You can ask for "Wari" which is a lighter refill of the broth as well) Great service is the norm here and the fact that they have retained so much of the same staff is likely a testament to how well the place is run. So happy to have this place in the mission and plan on returning frequently.

Taishoken San Francisco on 665 Valencia Street San Francisco in The Mission District is excellent! We found this beautiful restaurant on a late Saturday afternoon Our server was Yuji he did a perfect job Very friendly, courteous and did a super effort in meeting our special requirements this day. BRAVO! We had Yuzu and Lycee mimosas! Our menu selections are in the photos of this review. All were delicious choices, creative and stunning display! We will be back soon. Highly recommend Taishoken for a very fine dining Japanese variety experience.

    salmon sashimi

almost barfed eating the salmon look at how thick those slices are something i've come to realize recently is that i actually don't like seafood when it tastes like the sea and i really felt one with the ocean when i was eating this sashimi. and to top it all off the soup was both too salty and too sweet (how do they do it?) overrated for sure. would not pay to eat this again and honestly don't know if i could be paid to eat this

Taishoken SF you've done it again... I brought friends with me this time, but this specific location will always be a restaurant I know I can visit to enjoy a solo meal Always great service, vibes, and food. I love love love noodles, especially noodle dishes that are dry/brothless, so I'm convinced their Mazesoba was made to suit my tastebuds. These chewy noodles topped with a plethora of savory toppings mixed well with a touch of their tonkotsu broth + original shoyu sauce. The chashu was fatty and melt-in-your-mouth, and once again, the bamboo shoots here are the only bamboo shoots I'll eat. Taishoken's Mazesoba is, in my book, just the right amount of umami. One of these days, I'll come back to grab a bite and the yuzu mimosa. Thank you again for a wonderful dining experience.

Gretted when we entered, we slid into one the few open tables. The decor was charming, and we were quickly gretted by our server with menus and water. They have a simple menu that has a selection of small bites, yakitori, and other dishes to enjoy and you basically circle the ones you want and hand it back. Service was fairly quick and attentive, friendly, and helpful with figuring out the ordering. We enjoyed each item, especially the short rib and chicken thighs. ----TL;DR---- Pros: easy to get to location-wise, fast and friendly staff, good selection on menu, fresh and flavorful meats Cons: none Bottom Lind: if you are craving Japanese pub food like Yakitori, come here, it was great. The center literally was a bar and I could tell it was meant as a nighttime eatery. Their menu is composed pretty much of some izakaya type items and yakitori. I ordered only yakitori. The skewers were a bit pricey- 5-9$ each. But the quality was really good. Chicken heart and thigh were ultra juicy. Beef tongue was so soft and tender. Meat ball was ultra soft. Loved everything- no misses. Really surprised me. I highly recommend folks stop by for the skewers. Other than price I have no gripes at all! Just be prepared for the wait- with an empty restauraunt I waited 30 minutes.

My favorite was surprisingly the cod though, SO delicious and buttery. The marinade on tha was incredible, highly recommend. We went in pretty late, close to closing, but they were super nice and helpful still. Nice local spot !

FOOD: 8/10 Every roll I've ordered has been good. I love getting their nigiri or sashimi combo and enoki mushroom skewers. I believe the nigiri combo with spicy tuna roll is only for takeout orders. SERVICE: 10/10 The staff is always kind, attentive, and welcoming. I appreciate how, for the most part, service is always quick here as well. AMBIANCE: 9/10 The atmosphere is cozy, calm, and inviting. It has that relaxed neighborhood feel that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. It's perfect for a casual dinner or even a low-key solo meal. My only small note is that I wish the tables were slightly bigger, especially for a table for two. Overall, I absolutely love dining here or even grabbing it to go. Shokudou is one of those places I'll keep coming back to whenever I want comforting Japanese food done reliably well.

Ambiance was so cute very intimate but not much conversational privacy. Ordered the chicken, wagyu steak, beef tongue, okra, eel, scallop, and pork belly skewers. Also had the yuzu cheesecake. All skewers were juicy and delicious 10/10 every item was a hit. Wagyu was soft and not too welldone, scallop was flavorful and soft, chicken was so juicy, tender, and had strong flavor. Yuzu cheesecake - small light fluffy with a light caramel like sauce - emptied the plate 10/10 Would definitely come again.

Inside it's a cute and intimate restaurant with a long bar and a few tables. I've been coming to this place over the years and looks like they recently expanded by taking over the next door. Now you can enter to an expanded area through a wall that didn't exist previously to another two bar areas. This place is probably best for date nights and couples rather than large parties. Good variety of izakaya choices including chicken thighs, chicken parts, pork belly, scallops, and some beef options. I found the izakaya solid but not outstanding. The skewers are a little too saucy for my taste which I prefer more the traditional simple salt which you find in Japan. Also, I wish they had more charcoal flavor to the izakayas. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken skin gyoza which uses chicken skin as wrappers. It's an interesting twist to your traditional gyozas. The fried oysters were good, juicy, and crunchy. They also have a very good selection of sakes and drinks.
