i don't know what keeps bringing me back here but it's an addiction and I need help. A weekend back home is not complete without getting AU. They have a couple of options which you can get a To-Go offer which upgrades you to a large for free. I always get the Peach Green Tea which is really good and the perfect amount of sweetness. I also always get the pink boba although I'm not sure if it actually tastes better or if I'm just thinking it is like some kind of placebo effect. Either way it's delicious despite being an expensive habit. I can't really speak much about the food but if I remember right the popcorn chicken is pretty decent. Ive had this bookmarked for a while and i've been dying to try it! I got the passionfruit iced green tea with lychee jelly and pink boba. The pink boba got me! it's probably one of the best boba i've ever had. Boba should have a soft and chewy texture and it should definitely be sweet. They have hot milk teas that come in mini pitchers and the boba comes separately where you can prepare it as you drink. The crispy chicken is really good as well! I thought Tea Zone in Westminster is the only place that has the best popcorn chicken bc they use dark meat but AU 79 is just as good! I also had their Milk Pastry brick toast which is really yummy! It's crispy, soft and buttery! I also tried the other location in San Gabriel and that's where I tried their creme brulee, which btw is delicious! This is one of my go-to boba spots in the West SGV. One of the best tea houses in the area, and that means something considering 3 Half & Half locations and a Cha for Tea are within a 10-mile radius. The staff is generally attentive and friendly if they're not too busy. I personally love the drinks, especially the iced black teas and milk teas, but I've heard they can be too sweet for some people. The food is decent, but I've really only gotten chicken curry every time, or brick toast if I come in the afternoon for a snack, because they're so delicious. That being said, the menu tends to be expensive, but come during happy hours for cheap drinks! Make sure to swipe your loyalty card/"stamp card." Went here for the second time in about 5-6 years since I'm not from the area. So I'm not sure why this place has a 3.5 star average. My friend and I went on a Sunday night around 9, to find the place somewhat busy with youngsters. I ordered the fresh milk green tea w/ boba, and my friend got the strawberry green milk tea w/ boba. Both were great, and the boba was perfectly fresh and chewy. The bill for our drinks came out to $9 and change, but it was worth it! Our drinks came out in about 5-7 minutes. They got my drink wrong, but corrected it right away. And they have 2 containers of samples, which we definitely took advantage of. I love this place. In fact I just went today and tried there jasmine milk tea and tried my boy friends rose milk tea and OMG fucking delish!!! Best tea I have had yet, and lately I have been drinking this stuff like water. I like the atmosphere as well as their squid balls and milk bread stuff. mmmmmmm Some of the entrees I have not loved but I have never hated anything. This place is a must esp. for their tea. I have actually been wanting to write a review on AU79 for some time now. Initially, many years ago, I thought that AU was the most amazing boba shop in SGV; I loved it and I couldn't live without it. Seriously -- pink boba... How cool is that? But throughout the past year, my experiences at AU have not been so pleasant. Thus, I kept hesitating to write a review, as I kept trying to make myself believe that it was just a bad day. This management might need to consider hiring some more waiters/waitresses. Often times, when I come here during meal-times, the check is slow to come. More recently, the credit card system was down for a couple of days. It is understandable -- as everyone has their bad days. But as a business charging about $4 for drinks, and around $7 for meals, they should have worked faster to get the system back up. They are also not very good with getting orders right. :( However, I will not hesitate to say that their foods are made with quality. They offer an assortment of noodles/rice topped with some kind of meat/vegetable etc. And I also must commend them for making many efforts to catering to people of all diets. They have expanded their menu for vegetarians, and individuals who are lactose-intolerant. :) read more

Been to this AU a couple times, and normally service is decently quick, though today was a different story. I went there today- a Monday, mind you- with a friend and my sister, in which we ordered three drinks that took about 20 minutes to receive (no joke). Not to mention that they were out of boba- still don't understand how a boba shop, runs out of boba at 2pm. Once it came time to leave, we had to ask the twice to get check- and it wasn't busy AT ALL, in which it literally took 30 minutes to get the check. I don't know about you, but I feel like that is completely unacceptable. Think I might have to pass on going to AU for a while. read more

The drinks and food at this place is actually quite nice and flavorful. Although they have a great menu, the prices are extremely expensive. Yes, the boba tastes great and the drinks are refreshing, but it doesn't match with the high prices for everything. They have a nice patio outside, which is great for big groups, but the thing is, because it's so nice, it's always packed. The only problem I have with the patio is that it's nicotine city. There are lot of smokers and it fills the air around the actual tea house. Of course, this isn't something the workers or owners can change, but if you can't take the smell of nicotine, the only place you can stay is inside. The only complain I have with this place are the workers attitudes. I was waiting on a couple of drinks for at least 25 minutes. There were only 3 people in front of me when I ordered the super expensive drinks. So after about 25 minutes, I saw that the person making the drinks was putting the drinks that looked like they were mine on the counter. I got up to take a little peek to see if they were actually my drinks. As son as I made my way towards her, she immediately yelled at me to wait and that someone will call my number when the drinks are done. To me, that was a bit rude because I only took a peek and saw that the order number matched mine. I understand that she was working hard for the drinks even though it took longer than usual, but I thought that if she apologized for the delay instead of commanding me to stay away. I've been coming to AU for years and it's still my favorite place to get tea. The tea here is always consistent and they make my tea to my specifications. The outdoor seating area is awesome. This place is so chill....sometimes my friends and I would come here 2 or 3 times a day during our endless college summers. The food is actually pretty good too. I would give it 4 stars because the service has been a little slow over the past year...but it's a Chinese establishment and I'm not here to get pampered. You want something? Go up to the damn counter and order it if you're in a hurry. If not just relax..and maybe someone will come to you. I applaud this place for always looking to better itself to accommodate its consumer market. They are really trying hard to make you think its worth the money. I ordered their new product the Molasse Milk Tea with Boba, and it was pleasantly worth the $$ I paid for it. I ordered less-sugar and it came out just right. The only thing I complain about is the speed of their services, and how uncomfortable the chairs are, and oh, how many people smokes outside (but I don't think I can blame them for it). i prefer this location over the one in san gabriel, mainly because it's a lot cleaner (and no one walked in on me in the restroom....) and the workers here are a lot nicer, more interactive with the customers. this place is smaller than the san gabriel one though. AU79 isn't some place i'd immediately think of if i want boba though, besides for their pink boba milk tea. i usually HATE regular milk tea anywhere else, but AU79's milk tea is really good! especially with their pink boba. but sometimes if you go when they just opened, their pink boba isn't ready. which is understandable. their food isn't bad either; if you're super hungry, it's not a bad option -- but there are better places within walking distance -- Tasty Garden across the street, Din Tai Fung across, etc etc etc. they've got a good amount of outlets that are located at the bottom of the benches you sit on (not hte chairs in the center of the room) i'd come here to study more, but it's a bit of a drive. read more

I just love the little setup they have outside! Was here on Thursday for our monthly bike night. I was looking for something to warm me up so I chose the rose milk tea and, omg, let me tell you it was a life changing experience! First off, I was not expecting there to be actual little rosebuds when I opened the lid to cool off my drink. It was such a wonderful little surprise! It smelled delicious and tasted even better. I've been coming to this place for almost 9 years already and I come here less and less now. The drinks here are not as good as before and the servers don't seem like they enjoy working here at all. When I ordered with boba and there's no boba in the drink. This is a great place to come and hang out with friends. The total size is kind of small and noise level is on the higher side but it a great place to chill. There is wifi and no time limit on how long you can stay. The decoration is good and there are a lot of young people hanging around in here. It is what you would expect with a tea place. Came here on a Sunday night with a friend for their dine-in. Usually, we've had amazing experience here, but that night was completely different and has made me question whether I want to come back anymore. Upon arrival, we saw that the place was very full, which wasn't too surprising. However, we saw that there were a few empty 2-or-4-seat tables available, so we asked if we could get one. The waiter haphazardly pulled up a two chairs and stuck them next to the table, but we could still see the crumbs and remnants of the previous diners' meals on the table. Clearly, they hadn't bothered to wipe the table before seating us, but they were busy, so we tried to ignore it. Unfortunately, as soon as they seated us, they also completely forgot about us. We'd asked the waiter for menus, but he never brought them over. After waiting for 10 minutes, we just grabbed a menu ourselves and went up to the counter to order. Finally, the waiter notices us again, and tells us that he'll be right with us. In that regard, he was true to his word, and took our order immediately. Ordering itself, we would discover, was also a challenge. We wanted passionfruit green tea with pink boba, but they claimed that they didn't have any left. That's strange, I saw you serve pink boba to someone else about 20 minutes afterwards. Whatever, we changed our order to mini-boba, which they apparently ALSO didn't have. This was at 7pm! How are they out already when they've always had it at 12am when I would normally come? We finally changed our order to regular-sized boba, which they finally agreed to serve to us. We also ordered the 2-item fried tofu/chicken combo, as well as a pork chop w/ rice combination. The last item never arrived. We finished our drink and the 2-item snack combo, and were patiently waiting for our entree to come out (after all, it was a busy night, so maybe it was just taking a while), when the waitress randomly brings us the check instead. EXCUSE ME? Since when is that acceptable, especially if we'd only been there (waiting time included) for about 45 minutes? Moreover, it wasn't as if she was just giving us the check to take care of whenever we wanted - she just threw it onto the table and left to go do something else. She was basically telling us to get out, which is pretty audacious and rude, especially since we hadn't even asked for the check AND our order was incomplete. It turns out, they never input the final item in our order, meaning that all they had recorded for us was the drink and the 2-snack combo. We explicitly saw the waiter write down that part of our order, yet between him taking our order down and inputting it into the system, the pork chop order disappeared. Although this might have just been an honest mistake, it really was the straw that broke the camel's back. We had experienced terrible service, which is so unlike this place! Maybe they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of customers they had, but that just reflects negatively on their ability to handle a large volume of people. As soon as we discovered that they forgot our final order, we promptly paid the bill (leaving NO TIP) and left. This is one of the few times during which I didn't leave a tip, but honestly, the service and attitude of the people there made me so disappointed and angry. If not for my multiple previous good experiences there, I would've updated my review to 1 star. Since they did have a lot of customers and were probably really busy, I won't completely hold their terrible service against them. I will, however, think twice before coming back again. read more

ehhh. This AU79 location keeps its 3 star rating for the Tea and the Name. AU79 Tea House is as bad as the Ten Ren Tea Time Diamond Plaza branch. Very hit or miss. Every other time I hit up this AU79, it is either perfect or very off kilter. As with my preferred San Gabriel branch, the Tea is always amazing. At time, even when not busy, the drink may not be perfection. Today, I went here after being in the area and though it seemed busy, the drink counter was not. My order of a Large Honey Green Tea with Pink boba came quick, but left much to be desired. A lack of honey taste made the tea a bit bland with the nice bitterness and floral notes. The boba seemed to be a mix of the perfect boba consistency with a lagre amount of a hastily made batch which, to quote my favorite graphic novel "American Born Chinese" by Gene Luen Yang, taste[d] like rabbit crap. This happened too many times to me, so I can't give any slack. Lucky for you the actual tea saved this from being a 2 star. But I'd rather drive to San Gabriel or go to the Ten Ren Tea Time on the other side of the plaza instead. i used to occasionally but as of yesterday night, i will no longer come here anymore. Walked in on a Wednesday night with my friends asked one of the workers if there was a special on green teas and black teas because on their window, there was a poster that said buy two get one free. The person who was helping us, Kevin, was very rude and told us it only applied for green teas and black teas. I asked him if it also acceptable for flavored green teas and black teas but he gave me a dirty look. After that, i just ignored him and ordered a hot honey green milk tea. Kevin did not even tell me my total, he just took my card. Granted yes, i saw how much my drink cost, but seriously? is it that hard to tell me my total on how much my drink was?????! After i gave him my card, my friend even said he was very rude. when my transaction was complete, my friends and i were just standing there waiting for a long time for my drink ( because it was to go order). One girl even ordered food and I only ordered a drink and she still was served before me. I was not happy with the service at all. They also charge extra if you use card and it's under $10.00. PINK BOBA!!! It's much sweeter than normal boba and there is something inherently happier about a pink squishy ball :) Their food is normal tea house food. It's a small place so tables are a little hard to nab, but the outside area also has a decent amount of seating with heating lamps. If you have never had pink boba, give AU a try :) read more

Decent place for boba - the drinks are good, not great, and priced a bit higher than other places in the area. Food is mediocre, but the appetizers (eg. popcorn chicken, fried fish balls, etc.) are passable, if not a bit salty - but I guess that's what the tea is for. I came here on a Saturday afternoon to pick up some drinks. The guy took my order and I sat around and waited. Five mins go by...10 mins....hello? Where are my drinks?? I made eye contact with the girl behind the counter and she asked another employee what I was waiting for. He had no idea so he asked the guy who took my order. The guy who took my order told the other guy I was waiting for my drinks. Then he approached me and asked to see my receipt. That's when they started making my drinks!
