    32. Popcorn Crisp Fried Chicken / 香酥雞
    Katie C.

Food came out pretty quick on Tue evening. Solid popcorn chicken, loved the crispy batter! I ordered the mild spice bc I was scared that it would be too spicy, however, I will considering upping the spice next time bc I needed more. Portion size was filling. Wished they added a basil leaf in my bag bc I think it adds a lot to the overall flavor.

    Fried Chicken.

Went to grab some popcorn chicken because it sounded good. The lady at the front was very rude and was not welcoming at all (maybe because im not asian) but that shouldn't matter. I ordered the popcorn chicken and it looked good and smelled great but it was EXTREMELY SQUISHY. I continued to eat some because i thought maybe it would get better but every other piece was squishy. I also asked for hot sauce and the lady was super rude and responded to me "ketchup or sweet sauce!" and i said ketchup and she looked very upset that she had to give me ketchup . The ketchup also looked sus, it was like 10%ketchup 90% water.

I got the fresh milk brown sugar boba drink. My cousin got the Milk Tea and my brother got the Strawberry slush. We all liked our drinks. The store also gives out free samples!

I love the crispiness and spiciness of their chicken popcorn with added chili powder and salt n' pepper, so perfect! :) The slushies were so refreshing. The lady let us try the dried fruits their selling. I ended up getting the dried strawberry, yum! Also, the spicy beef jerky is a must try! Will surely look for their store in San Francisco. :)

I worked down the street and was happy to come and grab a Tea and as soon as I walked in and the two ladies were not helpful and I had to ask to be helped. They had a list of fun juices & Teas with fruit in them and foam . All I was looking for a green tea over ice . All the fancy drinks were $5.24 -5.45 each and the lady at the counter made up a price and charged me $7.25 I told her are you sure all I want is a simple tea, they didn't even sweeten my tea. I was offended and will never return.

Iced grass jelly even though the menu said HOT grass jelly and she goes... you didn't tell me you wanted it hot.

I was in the area and decided to give this place a try. The boba shop is new and clean. They also sell Chinese beef jerky and dried fruit. Two ladies working there. I took 2 stars off because I ordered #4 Hot Grass Jelly Tea and she handed me an iced drink. I really wanted a hot drink given it's a raining day. When I got the drink I said isn't this supposed to be HOT? She goes... you didn't tell me you wanted it hot. UM.... But the name of the drink is literally "HOT grass jelly tea," it should be hot by default. If I wanted iced, then YES, I would say I wanted it iced. I was like your menu is misleading because it says it's hot, why would I need to tell you that. She didn't even offer to switch the drink for me. I was annoyed and in a rush to leave. Didn't really want to argue. The drink itself was sweet. I told her I wanted to be less sweet but it was still sweet. I won't be coming back.

Good place to grab a quick bite. Only tried the food this time. The rice bowls looked clean and portion was pretty big. But pork chop was pretty dry and the braised pork was too peppery. I did enjoy their popcorn chicken and fried tempura though. Crispy and flavorful.

I drove past this place pretty much twice daily heading to and from work since it changed from an herb store to a boba, shaved ice, and fusion-ey entree place. This past weekend, my middle kid had a soccer game at the adjacent middle school, and my youngest son and I walked over to get him something sweet. The menu is pretty straightforward with lots of pictures. I couldn't talk my son into a shaved ice with sweet milk, mango and red bean... so he went with the #6 brown sugar boba milk tea. My number one boba nai cha Felt a little lonely, so I ordered up their "French sandwich," sort of a bánh mì looking sandwich. A cursory inspection of the menu indicated that they had other items from various Asian cuisines and cultures. My son and I sat down to enjoy our drinks while we waited for the sandwich. The store is new and clean, the staff was friendly without being overly chatty, and there's a pretty little orchid display for your viewing pleasure while you wait. The sandwich turned out to be very tasty, but was missing my favorite ingredient: sliced fresh jalapeño peppers, or at least something spicy. This even had that nice kind of mystery meat crunch thing, head cheese maybe? ... tendons and tripe and knuckles and stuff like that. All the stuff a growing boy like me needs. And I'm not even being facetious, it was really good. It just needed some nose-running kick spice to make it all work. As previously noted, this is literally across the street from a middle school, so I can only imagine that at dismissal, the place is probably pretty busy with polite but decidedly middle school adolescent kids. If that sort of thing bothers you, you probably have no business being on First Avenue around 3 o'clock in the afternoon on a weekday anyway. But if you are, definitely give this place a look.

I was craving boba and snacks after my run and I came across Fresh Delicious. 1 mile away from Arcadia Park. on First and California. It's a small mom and pop shop, there are 2 sweet ladies working, 1 always in the back making the food. Another 1 at the register taking customers' orders. I ordered the 2 snack combo with popcorn chicken and fish cake. For drink, I got the hot grass jelly milk tea with 25% sugar. Popcorn Chicken and Fishcake: very good texture and crispy. The flavors are very balanced. I got it with medium spicy. Portion is pretty good for $9.59. You can alsp get 3 combo items for the same price as well. Grass Jelly Milk tea: my first time trying it and it's really good. The grass jelly tasted very fresh and soft. I did get 25% sugar but I felt like it's still on the sweeter side for me. overall, the drink tasted very delicious. Service is great, I came around 8 pm. not packed and they close at 9 pm. I was greeted with right away and the 2 ladies are so friendly. Plenty parking on the street. They also have shaved iced and other taiwanese desserts. I do want to come back to try the rice dish. they look really good!

Yummy! Recommended! Staff is friendly. Currently they offer a $110 gift card for $100 to spend at the store.

I was craving for some Taiwanese food and this was one of the very first few places I saw on Yelp nearby that accepted card(I have no cash) and still open at 8pm. The shop is just on the corner of California St and 1st Ave next to the water shop, you can't miss it! Plenty of street parking and two spots directly right in front of the stores but one of them is 24 minute only. Very friendly people there, I was greeted right away with kind smiles. I kind of felt like it was expensive that I got two snacks togo(popcorn chicken was the same price as 3 fried sausages) and a boba milk tea for dinner for just me(about $25 for the 3 items) but it's my bad for not seeing they had rice bowls and that could've just filled me up probably. They walked up to me with my order instead of calling me over to get, which was very nice of them to do. Boba milk tea was not bad, good chewy boba. The popcorn chicken was a fair amount portion but I was hoping for more basil, just a small speck of basil on the bottom of the bag. The fried sausages were thick and juicy. At first I was disppointed cause the picture on the big menu had me thinking I would get more than 3 sausages, definitely worth though. Food is good, I would come back and I'll still recommend for anyone craving some Taiwanese snacks/drinks.

    Aileen H.

Their peach slush is really good and refreshing! The popcorn chicken was good too. It had good basil and garlic flavor. Can't wait to come back and try their other food. This place offers classic Taiwanese bento boxes such as braised pork over rice, snacks such as tea leaf eggs and other Asian food varieties like Vietnamese banh mi sandwich and Japanese style rice bowls. Can't wait to come back and try these other options. There is free street parking outside. It can get busy in the afternoons around 3pm during the weekdays because it's located across from a middle school.

It's located inside a busy shopping plaza so parking can be difficult, especially on the weekends. It's open daily 7am-7pm Service was average since this is one of those " pay at the counter for the food and take a seat" kind of place. However, it would have been nice if the cashier told us to grab our soy milk from the fridge or at least handed it to us after we ordered it. We were waiting 15+ minutes for the items only to go up to the counter and realize that we were supposed to get it ourselves but we're never told to do so. It's quite small inside but there is a decent amount of seating Pricing is resonable and nearly everything is under $15! The Curry Pastry ($2.60) was pretty good. It would've been better if it was more crispy but the filling was very delicious and had plenty of curry and beef! The Sweet Soybean Pudding ($4.50 - large) was delicious! Be sure to let them know to put the syrup on the side otherwise they combine it for you! The tofu was very soft, silky, and fresh. I was very relieved that the syrup wasn't too sweet since they combined it inside. The Soymilk ($4.25 - large) was very sweet and didn't have much of a soybean taste. It would have been better if it wasn't so sweet so I could taste more of the soybean. NOTE: they offer salty soymilk and soybean pudding but it's +$0.25 more than the sweet Soymilk and soybean pudding! The Peanut Milk ($4.25) was pretty good. It was very creamy and nutty! If you like peanut butter, then this is a must! It wasn't too sweet and it was very refreshing. Overall, I liked the soybean pudding more than the Soymilk and the prices were reasonable so I most likely will recommend and return!

SinBala - Arcadia…read more SinBala is one of the rare Taiwanese restaurants that has stood the test of time. I grew up eating here. There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. I come for the Taiwanese classics that are becoming harder to find. The popcorn chicken is still one of my favorites--crispy, fragrant, and seasoned the way Taiwanese street vendors do it. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Taiwanese food is often overshadowed by other regional Chinese cuisines, but places like SinBala remind me how unique it really is. Simple, comforting, and full of character. I'm grateful this little piece of Taiwan is still here.

Your other friend's uncle was the VP to Terry Gou founder of Hon Hai Precision's (the company that makes all the iPhones), your friend's dad was locked up in Taiwan because he was the head of the United Bamboo Triads. Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. And so like the Italians, you needed family restaurants to congregate at, and Aghoo precisely is that type of restaurant where Taiwanese Boomers and their children go sit down and have comfort food. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. And there were only a few restaurants in Los Angeles 30 years ago capable of doing it: Happy Family Garden Pacific Plaza 新園餐館, Dumpling King 老夫子 Hacienda Heights Vons Plaza, Sin Bala 新芭樂 Arcadia, and Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 Arcadia Location One. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. In Taiwan, you used to be able to go to a street stall and order 100 different types of stir fry for dirt cheap, and so the chefs that had the grit to do it became masters at stir fry, authentic green onion beef not that fake Mongolian Beef created for the American Audience...although I equally like the American version. So yes, it was a sigh of relief when I discovered Aghoo. One of the remnants of a lost art form in the diverse world of cuisine. It was survival for the Boomer generation to stand next to a wok all day, to support the business and to support the family. Unlike Italian food, you can't premake Lasagna, Meatballs, marinara sauce and just assemble everything last minute with fresh cooked pasta. No, Taiwanese stir fry is bittersweet hard labor....very mechanical in nature, and the chef needs to understand all the inputs. So these days, Jurassic Restaurant has closed, Uncle Yu's 印第安啤酒屋 had shut down. Leaving.....Aghoos? And yes, Eat Joy in Rowland Heights. Come to think about it, if you take out Din Tai Fung from the picture, these are the last of the Mohicans..... I'll end here with my walk down memory lane. You want the Taiwanese version of that Italian style Family sit down restaurant, this is it. This is where you will find all the Taiwanese Aunties and Uncles that probably own 10,000 shares of TSMC, 30,000 shares of NVDA, and Jensen Huang eating quietly in the corner.

Green Onion Sesame Pie: This prized basket of northern-style flatbread is probably what most people here are waiting for. The fried bread is cut into wedges with a crispy crackling exterior topped with fragrant sesame seeds. Inside, the bread layers are soft, pillowy, and bursting with green onions. Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. The sauce is thick and savory. There's so much flavor from the minced garlic, fermented black beans, and scallions. The silky sauce seem to find a way into all the nooks and crannies of the stellar bread. Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: The cooking technique of this dish is pretty cool. This is like a crispy char siu. The rich pork belly is marinated in red yeast rice wine for its aromatic flavor. It is coated in tapioca flour and then fried. The edges are crispy and kind of chewy while the meat is juicy and tender. Tofu Skin, Soy Beans, and Mustard Greens: The super thin tofu sheets and soy beans are a Shanghainese classic. With finely chopped mustard greens, the dish is a delightful study of textures: crunchy greens, chewy soy beans, and snappy from the tofu skin. The flavor is neutral and nourishing. Parking: It looks like there are only street parking spots, which there are plenty of. But, they have a lot in the back accessible through the alley by Alessandro Avenue.
