Could have been a nightmare! For our one year anniversary getaway, my wife and I were heading from the Bay Area to Truckee, and our 2004 Xterra broke down about 20 miles east of Auburn. We had to arrange a CHP "push" to a safer spot, tow, rental car and find a trustworthy shop to take the truck to. After calling a few shops that had rather grumpy people on the phone, Colin from Auburn Auto Doc was very welcoming and pleasant. In short, we discovered the timing belt was shot. Colin and his crew communicated very clearly that it was extremely likely there would be extensive damage (valves, etc) as is typical with this situation...not to get our hopes up. He was even willing to talk with my mechanic in the Bay Area (who said the same thing). We left the car with the shop on Friday and left with a rental SUV in hopes of enjoying our time away. Monday we were expecting confirmation of really bad news. We lucked out. Though the timing belt was shot, compression tests showed the engine was strong. We had them replace other belts, water pump (there were a few leaks, etc). In a situation where many people feel they could have been taken advantage of (we did not have many options), Colin (the service manager), Jeremy (the mechanic) and Wayne (the owner) were amazing and made would could have been a really bad situation as good as it could have been. Over the Memorial Day holiday I had reason to search for a auto repair facility to repair my vehicle. The problem was a no start no crank. I researched the Internet and decided on Auburn Auto Doctors. Unable to make an appointment I had AAA drop the vehicle at Auto Doctors when they opened Monday at 8. Wayne greeted me and asked how he could help. After hearing my description of the problem he offered to have Rick work the vehicle into their morning schedule. Rick had some additional questions for me aimed at helping him diagnose the source of the problem. In about a hour after bringing my vehicle in for repair, Rick had identified that the no start no crank was the result of the aftermarket alarm system. He advised its removal since it had already been disabled and then assured me the vehicle would start just as in the past. Rick promptly finished the repair and I was responsible for the cost of one hour labor. I can't say enough about the satisfaction I left with having found a professional and honest auto repair facility that understands the value in providing complete customer service. I will return. I have an older Toyota Rav which has a list of minor fixer up problems. I asked a young man working at a local car wash in Auburn who he would recommend that was knowledgeable about Toyotas to get started on my list. He said, "Go talk to Colin at Auburn Auto Doctors. They are knowledgeable and honest." I had gotten an estimate to repair an inoperable window at another shop which I thought was too pricey. I went to Colin at Auburn Auto Doctors. The window was repaired back to new within an hour and a half and at 1/3 the price of the other well known Toyota shop. I was really happy with the efficient use of time and the super reasonable cost, and supporting a local business which takes as much pride in their work as I do to make my own livelihood. I also liked the detailed written summary of the diagnostics and the work done; it wasn't computer generated or boxes checked off. I really felt they took a personal interest in my vehicle. I really appreciated the work they put into my pre-purchase inspection on my '01 Ford Expedition 4wd. They have a really nice method of distributing the information. They send you a link via text and email to an online report they create with pictures and information about the issues, and how serious the issues are. Then they follow up with a phone call to discuss what they found. Reception is lovely and they are more than happy to share information and walk through your concerns. Oh AND, most importantly, they warranty their work for a year/so many miles. Even if they give you a slightly higher price on an estimate than somewhere else (which I don't really see happening too much) it's worth it because of the warranty and the quality of work that they do. They really take the time to make sure that your car is done right and they won't rush it for a quick turnover. I will definitely be doing my business here for as long as I'm in the area!! read more

The best place to take your car when you need repairs, diagnostics or help. My 2005 Infinity G35 began going thru oil as if the drain plug had been removed. I was starting to add a quart of oil every week. I expected to see oil on the ground where I parked it, but there was none. Took it to Wayne and Rick and within a couple hours they found that it was in fact leaking in a couple places. I dropped the car off on a Friday and they had the parts necessary to repair the issue delivered the following Monday. The car was fixed and ready for pick up by noon. It's been a couple weeks now and the oil level is right at the full line where it's supposed to be. I'll take all of my vehicles to them first from now on. I'd suggest you do the same. read more

I have been bringing my vehicles here for the last couple years. They have been upfront and honest about what services the vehicle actually needs. Collin is a very knowledgeable service advisor and the technicians have done quality work every time. I had quite a bit of front end work done on my Tahoe and they got it done quickly. They replaced my water pump on my Cruze but it started leaking after a couple thousand miles. It was a bad part and not the fault of the technician. They honored their warranty with no questions asked and replaced the water pump again. Overall I am pleased with the work they do and I would recommend Auburn Auto Doctors to anyone. read more

Excellent service - brought the car in to find out why the air bag light was on. Two other shops and a dealer were unable to provide a diagnosis and wanted a lot of money to search for the problem. When I picked up the car they told me that their factory trained GM mechanic found the problem in minutes; a loose plug under the dash. Do you think the dealer would tell me that?
