It's seems Audubons has found a groove that fits what I had always hoped for this place. The food is excellent, and different than what you'll find at other places in town. I would expect to pay more for what I'm getting. They are dishes that are well conceived and perfectly prepared. I got a sneak preview into their future plans too and I'm super excited about that as well!! If I could make one suggestion, it would be some sound absorption for the walls and ceiling. It can get a little loud in the dining room, but that's also a sign of how busy they've become!!! For good reason! I suggest making reservations! read more

What a wonderful day. The drive was long from the city, but that was known ahead of time and was worth it especially with the sight seeing included. Our party of 8 enjoyed our meal thoroughly. Make sure you make a reservation. We had our reservation at 11 but by noon the place was jam packed. The dinning room is beautiful and has had renovations. As it is a old French hotel. Everything is clean and pristine, but not uppity. The kitchen is partially open and I love that. Was able to watch one of the cooks warm and prepare my bread pudding from the brick oven. The service was good when we were one of few tables. But she was still very quick with any request and I always had tea in my glass. I always ask what the servers favorite item on the menu is and she said the meat lover pizza and the Reuben. She also mentioned that the meat lover is the most popular item. I'm a sucker for a brick oven pizza. Needless to say the pizza was amazing and authentic. Also at the table someone had ordered a Reuben and the chicken Rueben that has cranberry chutney. I wrote this review two weeks ago. I sent it to Audubon directly through their website's form and to their email address to give them an opportunity to respond. It's been two weeks without response, so here we go (that's why you'll see me reference "yesterday". I originally wrote the review the day afterwards). My wife and I ate there yesterday evening. We were seated by a friendly woman, and she gave us our menus. Eventually the server came over and greeted us (I don't know how long it was, but my wife and I plenty of time to read over the menu and were even ready to order). We ordered our meals and we asked for the drink menu. The waitress grabs us one and never comes back to get our drink order. I had to chase the waitress down and order drinks to have any chance of getting them before dinner would arrive (I assumed it would be arriving soon since we had ordered maybe 15 min prior to me chasing the waitress down to order drinks). As we are sitting there waiting for our food, I'm looking around the restaurant. There were 4-5 other tables and I could see irritation about wait times for basic requests. Example, a family ordered a pizza and then asked for pepper flakes or Parmesan. She finally brings it to them after maybe 5 minutes when they seemed to be mostly done eating. As I'm looking around, I have a perfect view of the serving counter in the kitchen where the chef sets the food on for the server to take it out. The counter is full of plates. It's to the point where I could see the chef poking his head out, clearing trying to see where the server was. One of the plates from the distance looked like what I had ordered. I was checking my watch and my plate sat on the counter for about 15 minutes before it was brought over. She finally brings over our dinners. Right away I touch my steak to see if it's hot. It was lukewarm maybe. The server asks as soon as I touch it if it's cooked alright. I cut the steak and saw it was done to the right doneness. I say "it's cold from sitting in the window for 15 minutes". The server's response? "But is it the right doneness?". Not an offer to heat it up or even an apology. The steak was delicious, so it was a shame the server let the chef down. The server forgot my wife's side item, but she never came back for us to tell her. Didn't bother to say "how is everything? Or can i get you anything else?" We finished our dinners and sat with our empty plates in front of us. I stack our plates up with the utensils to try to signal, we are done. (Side note: the friendly woman that sat us was busting her butt, refilling drinks for people, clearly trying to pick up the slack from the server). She finally comes over to take the plates away. I tell her "my wife's salad never came and you never came back for us to tell you." Her response? "Well I'm the only server today so I'm busy. I'll take off a drink from the bill" with a real pissy attitude. She wasn't that busy. She was behind the bar most of the time having a conversation with 2 customers. So she just gave an excuse. It wasn't an apology; just an excuse. My wife and I left and we were both irritated. I spent most of my college years as a server, so I've been there. I've been in her shoes being the only server in a restaurant. With only the 4 or 5 tables, she was behind seemingly with every table. However, it was more of her chatting with those 2 customers and just wandering around that kept her from doing her job. The food tasted great, but it was a shame it was cold (and we didn't get all of it). We never once got an apology or anything other than an excuse. I'm 30 years old and had never once in my life tipped below 20%....until yesterday. I tipped only 10% and frankly, that was probably friendly. Worst service either my wife or I had ever received at any restaurant. Again, the food we received tasted great (but cold). It's a shame that a server dropped the ball so badly. If she wants to use the excuse of the 4 or 5 tables being too much for her, she either needs to find another line of work or Audubon's should never let her have more than 1 or 2 tables; absolutely never let her be the only server there. read more

We traveled to St. Genevieve for the Jour de Fete festival on Saturday and decided to check out Audubon's for lunch. We were first turned away and told they can't take anymore customers for 30 minutes. You could tell they were understaffed and overwhelmed. But we totally understood, with staffing shortages and a festival going on, we were fine with it and came back 30 minutes later and was seated. We were also very patient and understanding when it took forever to be waited on, our order had to be verified, then I was brought the wrong food, it was pretty much a total cluster, but again no problem, we didn't complain..We spent $50 including tip which is not bad for 2 people. The problem was at your Biergarten in the parking lot across the street. First off, we had already ordered drinks there several times throughout the day. We then decided to order two bottles of water, it was hot and I don't drink alcohol anyway. The woman bartender/server in the Biergarten building handed me waters, then she got rude with me when she saw I was paying with credit card, her comment was "don't you have three dollars?!"...Which I did not, then, next comment was "it cost us more to run this card than the water" and lastly she pointed to the street and said there's ATM over there. All the while she's checking me out. She had a really bad attitude and zero customer service. And I could see if I only spent three dollars, but I had just used my card with her like 30 minutes before that, and we bought drinks earlier in the day as well. Not to mention that I spent $50 at your restaurant..so I spent $80 at your establishment just to have some woman ragging at me about buying two waters. It was completely unacceptable. If you don't like the fees then don't let people use a card. And as far as her comment about an ATM machine, had I known I was going to get hassled over it (and I'm the customer ) I would've stopped and got money out, but I've been suffering from illness and recovering from surgery, and I had already done some walking earlier so for me to walk to an ATM machine was a big deal at the time. and considering I'd been using my card at your place all day long...Well you won't have to worry about any fees from my card anymore, she was just rude, and I travel a lot, I can go other places and also let people know. read more

Very poor service. The waitress kept telling us that they didn't have much food and several items were gone because they were only worried about the next day's service, which was Mother's Day. We had made reservations for Saturday to celebrate with our Mom. I guess that was not a good idea. The frozen vegetables were heated and served cold. The risotto was so salty my fingers are still swollen 2 days later. Horrible service where we repeatedly were told we didn't matter, they were just worried about tomorrow's brunch service. My wife and I had a wonderful time at Audubon's Grill & Bar and Hotel this weekend! The hotel room was beautiful, clean, & modern with great accommodations. The food at the restaurant was simply delicious. The bar had excellent waitstaff all of which added to the evening. The hospitality of Jim the owner was outstanding. Came here for dinner during a recent trip as it was our anniversary and we were advised this is the nicest place in Ste Genevieve. I'm sorry but this was not my first Ste Genevieve rodeo - it is not. Now don't get me wrong, we had a lovely enough dinner but it was just ok instead of great. The decor is very simple and the openness of the space makes it quite loud, which is not something I would associate with a nice restaurant. Our server and other staff members were excellent, no complaints there. For our meal we started with the meat and cheese tray, which is all oberle products and quite good and the for entrees we had steaks, oh dear. I don't understand how a steak can have so much pepper but still be bland, I really only ate a 3rd because it tasted like a flavorless chewy substance holding up a bunch of peppercorns. Very disappointing. The desserts we were interested in were out for the night so I can't comment on those. Now, I am told that exceptionally bland steaks is a regional taste thing so if you're local to the area then take my review with a grain of salt, or not - that might be too much flavor ; ) read more

Had an unexpected experience here. Very pleased with the quality of the meal we had. A couple minor miscues caused me to drop one star. They brought the wrong appetizers but made up for it with a free correction. The stuffed mushrooms were a bit on the cool side and could have been a little lighter on the stuffing. The winner of the evening was the main entre, an open faced roast beef sandwich. Beef was cooked to perfection but could have benefited with a broccoli or asparagus side along with the mashed potatoes. The remainder of the menu looked a little expensive but I'd need to taste to comment. read more

We decided to come visit Ste. Genevieve for our two year anniversary, and we decided to go to one nice dinner while in town. We initially had thought to go elsewhere, but they were rented out for the evening for a wedding party. Therefore, we decided to give this place a try. We entered and saw a very open floor concept and a lot of white furnishings. The place looked nice but somewhat lacked character and was quite loud. They had a musician playing, but we could not clearly hear them whatsoever. We were seated and had a very friendly server who was attentive to our needs. We ordered a sausage and cheese plate for appetizers, the lady had a pepper steak, and I had ordered a bleu cheese steak. Unfortunately, it was soon discovered that they were out of what I ordered, so I opted for a traditional rib-eye. We were quite pleased with the sausage and cheese plate. Everything on that plate was very rich in flavor. We later discovered that the sausage and cheese came from a local shop called Oberle, which is highly recommended. We got our steaks, and...it was bland. Don't get me wrong, it seemed like they were both good cuts of meat, but it tasted like I was just chewing a chew toy; there was no seasoning on this steak whatsoever. I had decided to leave about half uneaten, simply because it was not very enjoyable. We then wanted crème brulee for dessert, but then discovered that they had run out of this as well. Therefore, we decided to opt out of dessert and go about our evening. Our night cost a little over $80, which was fairly steep considering the food quality we received. However, the service was nice and we still had a nice evening here regardless. I would say that if you want a more seasoned steak though, either let the server know what you are looking for, or if that's not your thing, dine elsewhere. read more

When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a very nice hostess. There was a live musician which is a nice thought but was too loud and the sound was muddled. Luckily we were seated on the other side of the restaurant. We were given water pretty quickly by an unenthusiastic teen boy. After about 5 minutes our waitress finally appeared though she failed to introduce herself. She asked if we wanted to order drinks but we had already decided on what to eat since she gave us more than enough time to do so. I asked for a wine recommendation to go with the chicken and she said she would check with the kitchen. She came back and said "white wine". Really? How novel. I wouldn't have thought to pair a white wine with a white meat! Shortly after we ordered our food was served by a girl who was not our waitress. Before we even took a bite our waitress came over and asked how everything looked. It LOOKED fine. My husband's pork was good. But my chicken was room temperature at best. Our waitress, who the entire time had a sour look on her face, showed no interest in coming to see how the food tasted so I asked the hostess to send the manager over. When I explained the issue to the manager he just glared at me with a blank stare then said he would take care of it. He didn't bother to apologize. A minute later he came back and offered me something while I waited. I requested a bread basket. Before the bread arrived the chef came over with new chicken which was warm but seemed like it was microwaved. He said he would come check on us and give us free dessert. Finally the "manager" brought the half burnt bread to our table. Then the waitress came and asked what happened. Really? Shouldn't she have asked her manager? After we told her that the food was cold she looked shocked but again, no apology. Then she was on top of us asking us questions about the wine and the new food, etc. The chef never did come back to check on us and we left with several bad tastes in our mouth. This place was overrated and over priced. Don't waste your time and money. read more

We were so excited to try this place! It looks upscale for the area with unique menu offerings, but still reasonably priced. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but truthfully, for everything they did right, there was something terribly wrong. They were very busy at the time of our visit, but still...too many mistakes in both front and back of the house. The wait was only a few minutes for our table. They started off by giving a list of the wrong specials. Our server was prompt, friendly, and courteous at first impression. She brought out our drinks from the bar, took our second choice order since they were out of prime rib and whatever the other entree was we originally wanted to order, then informed us the kitchen was "super backed up". We were not offered water or anything else to drink, then waited more than half an hour before the server came back to check on us again. At that point we asked for water and got it. I had ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp from the appetizer menu, which was over-the-top delicious, but was supposed to have bourbon sauce and risotto. I got cold, dried out, white rice that tasted like plain starchy white rice. The pizza we ordered was brick oven pepperoni and andouille sausage and delicious!! Unfortunately they brought out a cup of cornmeal instead of dry parmesan cheese to top it and we didn't realize what it was until it was sprinkled all over the top of the pizza. Thankfully most of it didn't stick and could be brushed off. They offered free desert for the mistake, but our creme brulee sugar topping was burned black and the brulee itself was cold and slimy. So much potential there! They almost nailed it but fell far short of the expectations. I really hope they get it together, because the place has huge potential and could be a real gem. read more

This review is a little late b/c our visit was a couple weeks ago but I did want to circle back on this one. We stopped by during a band competition and the place was packed and they seemed a little overwhelmed. We were seated fairly quickly but were told the kitchen was behind. We waited almost 45 minutes but the food ended up being worth the wait. Several burgers ordered on the table and everyone really liked them. Looked like handmade patties and the seasoning was perfect. Also ordered at the table was the chicken chutney sandwich which was very good. I had the Rueben which I thought was excellent. Service was great and everyone in the staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend if you are in St Gen. read more

We had the opportunity to visit Audubon's grill and bar while we were in Saint Genevieve. The food was absolutely amazing. My wife and I shared a brick oven pizza and our son had a burger and fries. The entrées were so delicious that we decided we had to try there to signature desserts for the day. The chef had prepared a rum bread pudding and the sous chef made a delicious apple cheesecake. You should visit the restaurant for the desserts if nothing else. We dined in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. We found out that they are going to be opening a small luxury hotel above the restaurant. Our server was very attentive and went out of her way to make sure that our visit was perfect. We will definitely visit again if we are in the area. read more

Wow, I highly recommend ordering the spinach artichoke dip. Everything we had was delicious. Unfortunately due to covid, it was practically empty. I absolutely LOVE Audubon's! My family popped in on a Sunday morning for brunch after camping, of all things, and the staff was nothing short of professional, welcoming, and amazing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the people. They are FANTASTIC. The food. My god the food. I grew up in a French family and Audubon's made the most perfect liver dumplings I've ever had! The food was easily a five. We got the salmon and the croquette, and couldn't get enough! Sadly, our service was terrible. We waited about ten minutes for our server to ask our drink order. After a several visits here I have found this place to be overrated. Staff needs to learn what the happy hour specials are; what beverages are included, cost, etc. They should also become very familiar with the menu. Really....."How do you want your pork burger cooked?" It's pork, I want it cooked. Another experience, the waitress was not familiar with the sandwich offerings on the menu. It is a one page menu, how much time or effort would it take to know what the customer could potentially order? I ordered a caesar salad with salmon to go for $12.00. When I got home I was disappointed that the salmon was missing! When I called the restaurant, they already knew and were expecting my call. The manager apologized and told me to come in the next day for a gift certificate to cover the mistake. When I opened the envelope the gift certificate was for $10.00, $2.00 shy of my bill. The pretzels and cheese and salad was really good. The filet was not very tasty, and I would not recommend. We asked for it to be cooked at medium, but it came out well down. It was not juicy. The sauce on the filet was very salty and made it have an after taste that was not enjoyable. The sides were not very good either, it was really bland and didn't taste high quality. I was pretty bummed out about this restaurant. Excited to try it as its a spinoff of Chalmette Winery. My date and I visited today around 2:45 PM and had a fantastic waitress! It's beautiful inside and out, and I too like Andrew below was shocked at how sub par the food was. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were extremely salty.. after that I ordered the Schweineschnitzel & Spätzle, the dish was swimming in grease. Our waitress apologized profusely and said it was one of their signature dishes. I'd visit again for drinks and to see this fantastic waitress, but will likely eat beforehand... 2 stars purely for the beautiful interior and the experience provided by the waitress. read more
