Looks like they converted an old concession stand into a pizza and beer location! Nice reuse of space. We came on a Saturday and saw lots of people gathered and having parties. Relaxed atmosphere with several dogs. We tried the Broccwell pizza, which was ok. Kind of undercooked and floppy for a thin crust, but tasty otherwise. Pro Tip: If you visit Rockwell Beer Garden on an evening when a local running group is running a promotion and tell them you're a member of the group, they'll give you 15% off, even on the beer. It might be the only remaining good deal in dining out, thanks to a certain individual who shall not be named--though he's probably taking a nap right now anyway. LOL It would probably help if you were wearing running clothes. If you showed up in business casual attire, they might think you were trying to pull a fast one. If you wanted to, you could even take a lap around the block. You know, build up an appetite, not to mention thirst. It's a fine park and seemingly a lovely area, despite being in the city. It has an old-timey charm that my native West County (obvs) is sorely lacking. Who would have ever thought, a beer garden in a public park? Some parks, they don't even want you to stand around and drink beer. Or so I've been told. Is the price keeping this place from being overrun with the local "unhoused" population? BYOB is strictly prohibited, per signs posted near the seating area, though there didn't seem to be any cops nearby. I checked, natch. If you have the means, there's not much you could bring that's on a par with what's on offer. Let it be known: The fare at Rockwell Beer Garden is wholly superior to a Jack's frozen pizza and a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, though the pizza is disturbingly similar-looking to the former. Really, if I had to describe it, I'd say it's an elevated Jack's frozen pizza. It's roughly the same size. It's cut into squares, but it's not St. Louis style. The cheese is not provel. (Boo!) It's mozzarella. It's seemingly of a high quality and generously applied. The crust is similarly thin, but not quite as crisp, except at the edges, which are a bit burned, giving it a classy, artisanal vibe. It's not the best pizza you can get from a local brewery, but it's better than it looks. (They can quote me on that, if they want to.) I asked the young brother working the register if he had a recommendation for beer. He seemed stumped, like he's never drunk a beer before. He may have been there on a mission. I did see a row of bicycles nearby. On a whim, I went with something called Son of Juice, which calls to mind both Son of Bazerk and the guy who actually did the scratches on Nation of Millions (just nod along like you know what I'm talking about). After I ordered, the girl standing next to him recommended it to someone else, so I knew I'd made a good choice. She described it as citrus-y. It had a vibe similar to orange juice but with less tang than you'd expect from something described as citrus-y. Which I appreciated. Whenever we are wanting to sit outside and have an adult beverage, we usually end up coming here. There's usually a little bit of a line to get food and drinks, but it moves pretty quickly. Employees are always very friendly. I tried the coconut espresso martini this time around and it was delicious. My husband had a whiskey sour and enjoyed it as well. My daughter got a cherry lemonade and really liked it. I love that it is dog friendly so there's usually loads of puppies to pet. We really like animals so that is a feature that we really enjoy. I feel like all winter, I hold on, waiting for PATIO SEASON. Then of course I rate the best patios all summer long, because at home I am deprived of my own personal outdoor space. This Rockwell location is so close, it may as well be my own personal outdoor space. I remember the neighbors voting against this for Rockwell and I have to imagine those people are eating their words now. This is the best outdoor space in STL, if not the best, at least top 5. They have fans for when the weather is sweltering, they have water out and ready, they have great seating and even a fireplace to extend their season. You get a great dreamy walk (really it's not that far) to Rockwell, in the center of the park and before you know it you can see the pergolas with twinkle lights, also my favorite. I understand they have coffee and maybe pastries in the mornings, but I have not gotten to take advantage of this beautiful space in the morning. read more

Nice little terrace on the edge of Francis Park. Drinks were on the pricey side ($11-13 a piece) but they were extremely strong to make up for it. The food was slightly above concession stand quality. The Texan Pizza was tasty but the hot honey was doing a lot of the work. Caprese Sandwich and the Hot Dog were fine. I've been here a number of times - just for drinks in the evening, a coffee in the morning before a stroll in the park, and for the food. What a cute location located in the park! You order at a "stand" and chose whatever seat you want. It's awesome you can chose the picnic tables or just have your own picnic in the park. The selection of foods was impressive, I have to come back for the pizzas. The beers were great and cold. I loved that on Thursday in the summer there is a farmers market. We visited Rockwell Beer Garden for the first time during the week and I was pretty busy. We waited in a long line to order but they kept it moving pretty well. My husband ordered a beer and I got a tequila cocktail which were both good. We also ordered the pepperoni and Emilia pizzas to share with family. The pizza was good we ate all of that and probably could have had one more with our two kids. Checked out Rockwell Beer Garden for an early happy hour, what a cool neighborhood vibe! This awesome little hangout is in the middle of Francis Park, so you can come walk your dog, play pickleball, tennis, do yoga, chase butterflies, whatever...and then stop off for a relaxing drink or two and have some noms (really good noms by the way!) The kids enjoyed watching them prepare the pizza crust through the window. You order at the window and then they text you when the food is ready. Unfortunately, it took them more than 30 minutes to prepare our appetizer (pretzel bites with beer cheese), and 45 minutes to prepare the thin-crust pizzas. The pretzel bites and the pepperoni pizza were good, but on the smaller side for portion size. When I first heard about the beer garden going into Francis Park it was just a blip on the radar for me and I wasn't sure what to expect. The only association I had for the park was that my in-laws had met there while playing tennis. I'm happy to say the tennis courts are still there and have been joined by pickle ball courts. In terms of the beer garden is is a repurposing of an existing modest structure. You order at a window and then can take a seat at any of a number of picnic tables. There are maybe thirty or so tables sitting on a newly constructed outdoor area. It is immediately adjacent to the tennis/pickleball courts and it gives you the feel of being part of the neighborhood. There is a playground a short distance away in the park and we have started using the beer garden as a nice summer hangout spot for us and our friends with kids. The kiddos go and play while the parents wait for food. Some of the parents just chill at the tables and drink while other parents chaperone. Once the food is ready we all congregate back at the tables. The beer is good and similar to what you get at the main Rockwell establishment. The food is primarily pizza and then appetizers. We tend to get the grilled veggies as well as a sampler platter that has pickled veggies, cheese curds, pretzels, and then some G&W meat sticks. The pizza is very good as well. Overall the beer garden is a great addition to Francis Park and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a chill outdoor place to grab some food and/or a beverage. Even better, when you are done you are just a short walk/drive away from Ted Drewes! read more

When I heard there was a new beer patio in St. Louis that I had yet to try, I knew I had to check it out. Rockwell Beer Garden is located inside Francis Park adjacent to the playground and tennis/pickleball courts. You order at a window and have a selection of 15-20 shaded (daytime) and fully-lit (nighttime) picnic tables to choose from for seating. They offer concessions of weekdays and the full kitchen menu is available on weekends, which includes pizza and appetizers. They also offer a variety of different drinks from specialty coffee, to beer, to wine, to cocktails, making it so that there is something for everyone. I ordered the Ward 8 and a friend of mine ordered the Watermelon Sugar High, which are just a few of their signature drinks. While I enjoyed my drink, with a price tag of $14 including tip, I may stick with beer on my next visit. Also, worth noting, outside food is not permitted on the patio. Overall, Rockwell Beer Garden is a great addition to Francis Park, which is well kept and has excellent free amenities. My 1700th review. I love Francis Park and I'm a Rockwell Beer fan. Obviously I was here for the pizza though! Pizza is my one true love. So I ordered Pepperoni. It's a thin and crisp crust topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and Ezzo pepperoni and cut in squares tavern style. If you don't know what Ezzo pepperoni is it's made to cup and char at a high heat. Yes, the casing on the edges gets crisp, the pepperoni cups, and a little pool of grease collects in the cup. It's blissful. This was an excellent pizza. I paired it with the Rockwell Passing Clouds. My dinner date went with the Margherita pizza. Next time I will try the Emilia or the special. We hit up Rockwell during an outdoor market...in Nov! Cold? Yup! What better reason to sidle on up to a hot kitchen for some warm bites? Their menu isn't large but seemingly just right for outdoor snacking. We made our way to the order window and the service was quick and efficient. The pizza was StL style but very tasty - not your standard Imos, more along the lines of specialty but with the down-home taste.
