Walking in it seemed to look more like a pizzeria spot which was a bit deceiving but when you see that wood fire oven at work in the corner you can't help but become intrigued. Nice sized bar and large wine selection. We were asked if we were going to order food so we were then given a small bread basket that was basically the same consistency of their pizza dough so it was delicious with their evoo! We ordered the popular meatballs in gravy which was so tender and flavorful. We really enjoyed dipping the bread into the gravy. We also ordered a marg pie along with the bolognese pasta. Everything was exceptional including our red wine which I can't remember the name of for the life of me right now. What is awesome is ALL of their wine is from the Italy region. Servers and bartenders are quite knowledgeable if you have any questions regarding the wine. My only gripe is their prices are definitely upwards of NY prices which isn't a problem but considering this place isn't in NY and is actually in a residential area doesn't make sense how they came up with the prices. I have passed by this restaurant for years. We finally have it a try. Ambiance is quaint. Not that many tables. We were lucky to grab the one open table on a Friday night. We ordered the prosciutto and mozzarella pizza with truffle oil. It was big enough to share among three people. Hot from the ice , it was sinful. Paired with a glass of red wine made the perfect combination. I'm glad we didn't order any appetizers. It gave us the opportunity to really enjoy this pizza. I wanted to treat my aunt who is visiting from Texas the NJ pizza- and convince her that it is better than NY Pizza. I called in for the pizza, it was ready in time for the promised time- and I did not check if the order was correct... i requested for the half and half of the Diavolo and Bianca but got the whole pie of Diavolo-and called to correct the order. They told me that I can pick up the corrected pizza shortly, and it was ready when I walked back to the place. The business was really gracious in letting us keep the original pizza and the corrected one. I am 90% sure that the mistake was on my part. I've had the chance to visit this place couple times because I live down the block, and I have to say that Aumm Aumm has really won me over. Initially, I didn't think they were more than a pretty looking place that overcharges and I didn't like them as much as that ridiculously popular pizza place on Bergenline, few blocks away. But they've really come into their own, offering an amazing culinary experience from the moment you sit down (their BREAD & HOT OIL!!!), all the way to their crispy bubbling brick-oven pizza and delectable tiramisu on the finish. I'll highlight a few items that I've had over the years: Bread ($0) - Their bread rocks. Ask for grated parmesan and oil, and if you're a spice dude, ask for their hot oil and go to town with it. On most recent visit, the server brought out a small plate of 3 different spices (cheese, oregano, and pepper flakes) - Ma man really gets me - so hot oil wasn't as necessary but man it was so good that we probably filled up 30% of our stomachs with just the bread. Insalata Aumm Aumm (Salad, $15) - Their namesake salad lives up to its name, towering with great ingredients like endive and artichokes. Definitely more for serious vegetarians because this one's a meaty salad! Burrata (App, $16) - So creamy and paired well with tart orange which was ripe and sweet as hell. Only knock against it is the price - it's more than many pizzas! Quattro Stagioni (Ent, $15) - A great pie for those who want to explore diverse tastes, there're different toppings on each quadrant: hot sopressata, eggplant, ham, and mushroom. Really enjoyed sopressata and mushroom. Fusilli Al Ragu Di N'Duja (Ent, $19) - Got this once for a splurge takeout, the sauce is robust and spicy with perfectly cooked pasta. I was licking the cardboard clean watching TV. That good - they also give bread & oil with the takeout which made up for slightly lacking quantity. Tiramisu (Dessrt, $7) - A beautiful dessert. Menu says soft-baked cookies which may make this sound rather dry and heavy, but on the contrary, it's rather wet and with abundance of mascarpone cream. Get it. By the time we were leaving on a weekday evening, this place was packed with people. Food is on par with Trattoria Sorrentina, but this place is smaller and more intimate, therefore more suitable for romantic dinner for twos (as opposed to family dinners) and 1-on-1 dinners with friends. I really, really wanted to give this a higher rating and maybe when I return an updated review will follow but for now it will remain at 3 stars and here is why... Let me preface that I have has leftovers from Aumm Aumm, there seared tuna is delicious and so is the Contadina pizza which has a fresh, spicy taste because of the arugula, yet a savory end thanks to the prosciutto and shaved Padano. I came here this past Sunday afternoon with my fidanzata for a late lunch, we were both seated right away which was pleasant, usually there is a wait for the restaurant. Our server brought some freshly baked bread and olive oil with salt and pepper, the bread is great crispy outside but warm and fluffy in the middle, it was very tasty. We decided to go with it's flagship of entrees, the pizza more specifically the buffalino pizza; it came out looking great and bubbling from the brick oven. However, the thin crust could not support the rivers of molten tomato sauce and mozzarella as it literally slid off the crust once you picked up a slice. Was it tasty? Yes, but hard and frankly obnoxious to enjoy, it pains me to admit as a first generation Italian-American but I actually ate some of it with a fork and knife! The second course was one of their specials the Branzino, it was cooked masterfully, excellent seasoning, very tender, the meat melted with each scoop from my fork. The clams were good, not chewy or sandy, great flavor as well. The side of sauteed spinach was lackluster, seemed like they just drowned it in olive oil on the pan, no chopped up garlic, onions, or even crushed red pepper to give it some flavor. After both courses we were quite stuffed so we finished off with a cappuccino and split. Will we be returning? Most likely, like I said I really want to give it one more shot to win me over, maybe having the Contadina again along side some pulpo will tip the scales. Disappointed We ordered the Fritto Misto $28.00.. the description was "Lightly fried calamari, shrimp, & sepia with an assortment of chef's choice of vegetables, served with lemon and our homemade tomato sauce." This was not true to what we received a huge plate of calamari with three shrimp very little Sepia. Assortment but what we received were about 5 small pieces of zucchini vegetables . We also ordered the margarita. Pizza crust had no flavor. It was watery in the middle of the pizza, possibly due to the cheese, but the whole pizza was flavorless. The arugula salad very little dressing, couldn't taste much of any flavor as well. The only tasty thing on. That was the eggplant . The staff was welcoming, friendly and interested. We did not order from their very nice wine list. Had a nice poached chilled octopus salad w lemon. A small "lasagne" pizza, Yummy! While in New York for the make up show, the hubby found this amazing Italian restaurant. I'm not a big Italian food kind of guy and never really likes any of the Italian restaurants we have visited while on our travels all over the states. Until I ate here we shared a pepperoni and sausage pizza, spaghetti and an amazing salad with eggplant. I loved it all that I wanted to come again to it. I was looking forward to having a bite here since my friend frequents this place all the time and is usually satisfied. Today we asked for a table and he said that it would be about 25 minutes so we decided to have a drink at at table outside .. when what seemed to be a waiter If u can even call him that came over and said he only had one special and orders out drinks. When ordering an appetizer I mentioned that I was concerned sitting outside as it became windy and looked like potential rain... I asked him what would happen if it started raining and he replied with "then it rains"! After another waiter brought back the appetizer we noticed tables clearing out and asked the original rude ass waiter about sitting inside, he said he had four people he had to sit before us but clearly they were no where to be found. He then didn't come back to our table until 30 minutes later .. not a care if we needed a refill on drinks or even offer water. We ordered an entre as it was now 1 hour later and when Mentioning that he had forgotten about us his reply was "yeah it's really busy inside " .. When we saw an open table We decided to seat ourselves we were not provided any napkins, just silverware at the table. He never came back to ask if we needed a drink or even water again. Entrées came about 30 minutes later again no offer for a drink no napkins. We asked the second waiter for some water. The food is mediocre nothing to brag about. I don't think anyone goes out for dinner to be treated with such disrespect. I would never except this type of behavior if it was my staff. Not to cause a scene I did not ask for a manager as the rude waiter only came back when we asked for the check. Customer service and appreciation is clearly not important to them. I myself would never come back to this establishment if that's what you wanna call it . We heard so many good things about Aumm Aumm that we decided to try it on a Friday night. Aumm Aumm was crowded but we were promptly seated after running into a dear friend who is a regular there. Upon looking around I could see that the place is very popular and full of locals. AA has a rustic feel which includes a genuine brick oven and tasteful Neapolitan touches. Service was very good, no complaints. Appetisers : Eggplant parmigiana -excellent Cold seafood salad- fresh and generous- a hint more lemon would have made it great Entrees: Margherita- very good but would have loved a slightly more crispy crust Pizza Montanara-delicious! Something has changed here. I've ordered the lasagna in the past many times and this is what I received today. (pictured). The portion significantly smaller. It looks as if they broke it apart and tried to spread it in the container to look like there is more there. It also tasted completely different from usual - almost rotten. They don't take reservations but the owner did a good job of seating us in our preferred area towards the back. Now let's get to the food! Started with the arugula salad with goat cheese and the octopus salad. Both were amazing and then we got two pastas in my picture and they were so good! Then 2 pizzas (one red and one white) I didn't have the pesto because I have a pesto complex but the the other one was amazing. It has some delish seafood options that speak to my palate. And right now for the holidays it's extra cute. For an app we had the Crudo Bufala. I'm not normally a prosciutto fan(I know lame right) but this was fantastic and went well with the onions, peppers and Bufala mozzarella. It was a nice light way to start the dinner. I also had the tequila picante which in my opinion could've used more of a kick. Still delicious. I've been here several times and don't remember being as impressed by the pizza. This time I got the Diavolina. It had a perfect amount of kick to it. Crust light and airy how I like it. With the little air bubbles! Slight charred marks. The cheese, sauce and sopressata was out of this world. Emphasis on the sopressata. I've never had Orecchiette which was a surprise to my date. Is it really that common of a dish? The pasta was al dente. Maybe a little extra on the dente side which I prefer. No soggy pasta for me please. It was light and a good contrast to the pizza. Sausage was excellent! The pizza was the winner of the night BUT I can say most of the dishes here are great. This cozy restaurant and wine bar is frequently packed with "regulars", and it's easy to fall in love with the menu (and wine list!). It's not uncommon to strike-up a conversation with a neighboring table. Covid Preparedness: Adequate. Servers were masked, and tables were spaced out per guidelines but it still felt a bit cramped. It may have been a case of my own personal paranoia, seeing as many other patrons were actively disregarding social distancing norms (and there was a fair amount of non-customer foot-traffic), so I was happy to have a mini bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket and a mask on my face while not eating/drinking. Food and Service: Always a hit. Servers are experienced restaurant-folk, so they know what they're doing and always pay the appropriate amount of attention to their guests. Wood-fired pizzas are of course a highlight .. my favorite is their "Diavolina" with spicy sopressata and a tasty blend of cheeses, and their non-pizza entrees and specials are always discerningly presented and full of flavors.
