Aurora was a pleasant surprise: the food was excellent. An unplanned lunch with guests turned out very well. The pizza was delicious, with a nice, thin crust. The gnocchi was soft and fresh. The "aurora salad" was delicious with just the right amount of dressing, a wonderful balsamic mix. The staff was friendly. The only hiccup was the credit card processing was down, so we paid in cash. There wasn't much of a water view, but as I looked out the window I watched cyclists struggling with the slopes of Alexander Ave, showing a range of speeds and styles. We stopped at this place while on the Sausilito end of our bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a beautiful afternoon and we sat outside. We were taken care of by an older gentleman who was nice and attentive. For whatever reason, the wifi information given did not seem to work, but that is not the worst thing in the world. The Caesar salad dressing is sweet and lacks anchovies and is at best "reminiscent" of a Caesar. The pizza was bland and, seemingly due to a lack luster marinara base. The calamari, while cooked right lacked all flavor and the marinara dipping sauce was cold and uninteresting. Bread service was only offered after we requested it. The only positive was that the portions were of good size; but when the food is plain, it is hardly a high point. what a delightful restaurant! I have been coming to Aurora for a number of years but missed out on the past year or so because of Covid. I was so happy to discover upon returning last night that Cesar Rodriguez has taken over as owner of this delightful restaurant. He's super nice and extremely attentive and I highly encourage people to patronize. For dinner last night I had a lovely glass of Prosecco Along with some extremely tasty fettuccine Alfredo. The pasta was tender the sauce was not heavy and I couldn't tell you enough wonderful things about all the food I've eaten at this location. My partner had a lasagna and that was also extremely tasty. Again the pasta was tender and the flavor was scrumptious! I've had other foods at this location over the years and have never had a bad meal. And the service is always exceptional and the wait staff is always stellar! Cesar was basically on his own last night waiting tables But she could never tell because he absolutely knows how to make sure everyone is well attended to. They also do take out so if you're not comfortable eating in a restaurant feel free to order and pick it up! First time patron of this restaurant and was very impressed by the freshness of flavors and ingredients. I met up with my nephews and their lovely wives to have a goodbye send off for one of my nephews moving to LA. We started the meal off with salads. I had the Pere e Pecorino Salad, a baby spinach salad and it was excellent. I was very pleased that 4 out of 5 of their salads were made with organic greens. Unfortunately, I have to watch my weight everyday I didn't choose a pasta, ravioli or pizza dish, though anyone who can go that route won't be disappointed. Everyone at the table was very happy with their choices. I ordered the Salmone alla Siciliana. It was definitely right up there with the best salmon I ever had. It was tender and moist with capers, basil and tomato sauce. A generous portion and truly delicious accompanied by mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. I couldn't have been happier! The wait staff was awesome and helped with our difficulty choosing. The place was meticulously clean and all covid precautions were in place. So, would I go there again? You bet I would! I had an awful experience here. I chose the resturaunt by looking for Gluten Free places in Marin, and they have a lot of gluten free options on the menu. Sounds good of course. Well when we arrived I asked about the soup of the day, and they said minestrone, and I asked if there was pasta in it. The guy, who was the m'atre D, insisted that the soup was only vegetables. His english wasn't the best, and I was sure to ask the question very specifically in two or three different ways, but given how much the resturaunt sells itself as a gluten free friendly place, I believed him. The soup comes and I eat some but there are suspicious white things I at first thought were beans. I ask another employee, and yes, it was pasta. NOT gluten free pasta. Now I will be sick for two weeks (I'm celiac.) I waved down the guy who told me it was gluten free to tell him he made a -- serious -- mistake and he got defensive and angry and walked away. The other employees were embarrassed by the mistake and apologized profusely, but he never did. They did comp my meal (but not of others in my party), but frankly a free meal that makes me sick for two weeks isn't a good bargain. They should be paying me. What makes it so enraging is that they advertise themselves as super gluten-free knowledeable and safe, and then when I ask a very precise and specific question, they serve me gluten anyway. I chose the place PRECISELY because of this, so ZERO stars. With my celiac, I don't get sick for 36 to 48 hours, so I did eat my gluten free pizza, which was fine but not great. read more

However, the pizzas were only decent. While the topping was OK, the crust was very disappointing. I still wonder whether the crust was previously frozen as it felt more like a baked regular bread rather than pizza dough. Too many delicious places in Sausalito with stellar service (Sandrino) to ever have to walk away this disappointed. - Calamari was overly greasy. The first few pieces were not noticeable but I stopped eating after a few when I started to feel nauseated, also due to seeing a hair nestled on the bottom of the plate. - Caesar salad was split into two plates without us having to ask. It managed to be overdressed to the point where I couldn't eat more than three leaves of lettuce, but also completely tasteless. Imagine coleslaw made exclusively with romaine lettuce and mayo. - Ordered the housemade gnocchi and asked for bolognese sauce when given an option. It came out 20 minutes after the starters, because the staff forgot to put the order in. When it finally hit our table it was tossed in pesto. Another plus is the bike parking to leave and lock your bike, and it's a short ride from here to the downtown area if you still want to visit after eating. The food was great! Italian with fresh seafood, so a little pricey, but overall great. The white sauce light and not too heavy and pasta handmade. Also, the waiters made a great impression, were attentive even though very busy and very kind with our large group. We had a group of nine and the wait for our food did take over 30 minutes for just the appetizers and salads, but there was bread and water. The main courses took almost an hour, so that wasn't great, but we did have a large group. Also, they don't split checks and add the tip for groups 7 and up. Growing up in Marin, my parents frequently took me to Juan's Mexican Restaurant, where Aurora is located now. Parking can be tricky, especially considering which direction you approach from Bridgeway. It was especially windy out & I had brought a long winter coat, when I arrived I asked one of the food runners if there was a coat rack as my jacket which was doubled on my chair, was still dragging on the floor. He didn't understand my request & asked another food runner to see what I wanted. I was told they do not have a coat rack. It was Mother's Day, but I was disappointed that they ran out of the halibut, my first choice, & replaced it with salmon which I feel anyone can cook. Next, the drinks we ordered were served directly in the cans, I prefer a nice glass with ice. Next, my lamb chops were delivered without mushrooms - my son had requested his steak without mushrooms - I was fully expecting mushrooms on mine. When I asked the waiter to clarify that my dish was without the mushrooms, he admitted he got the order mixed up but never offered to bring me a side of mushrooms to make up for it. My food was delivered cold, but I was hungry after walking with the family at Chrissy Field, so I ate it. I should have taken the time to send it back because they were truly the best lamb chops I've had aside from home cooked. When I discreetly mentioned this to the waiter he asked me why I didn't mention it sooner. I told him I was really hungry; he did not offer to comp me my appetizer or dessert or even the latte I had which I totally expected after he didn't have my original choice, messed up my order, and delivered a cold plate. Finally, they ran out of the tiramisu which looked amazing. I know it hard to find & train good wait staff but it is truly the difference between a good dining experience & a great one. I will try this restaurant again, on a regular night & hopefully the service and food availabilty will be better. Maybe they'll even spring for a coat rack & some glassware. read more

This restaurant is outside of the central tourist area, so many locals dine here, rather than fighting the visiting crowds. They have a well-patronized and well known sister location in Novato, CA, so they have been around. The walk from the central area is pleasant and you can follow the main drag or the water line. Your call in the romantic walks department. The menu is different and expanded, the owner is your waiter and is more than happy to modify existing dishes or create something you would like to try. Wines by the glass are reasonable and there is good selection, along with a more extensive bottle selection. A nice outdoor deck is perfect for clement weather and has heaters, just in case. Interior is warm and cozy with nicely set tables. Food is very fine. Worth the walk. Savor the wine. Enjoy the calm. read more

We went to this Italian restaurant last month on a cycling trip. Bill included 22% outrageous tip which they automatically added was $286. Since our server was very friendly and we were in a good mood, I didn't correct the charge. However, when I got back and checked the monthly credit card transaction, there was an additional $27 charge in a separated transaction which I successfully disputed it with AMEX. In talking to our waiter, he gave a good suggestion of choices depending on our tastes. Going to most places it's more of a hurry up and order, but at Aurora, the word "hurry" doesn't exist. I ordered Gnocchi al piacere with pesto and my other half ordered Prosciutto di Parma . Both of which were delicious and didn't leave either of us feeling bloated or like we ate too much. Neither of us are big wine drinkers, our waiter was wonderful enough to allow us to sample the wine to see which we'd like better. That's the real meaning of appeasing your customers. We went in the late afternoon and took a seat on their outside patio area. It's beautiful in the sunshine but sure does get cold quickly, so wear layers. If you walk down the street that Aurora is on, there is a small beach area in between some homes. Lovely beach to go hang out on after enjoying a delicious meal. There were so many great dishes and they have gluten-free pizza crust as well as gluten-free pasta options that you can substitute for any of their dishes. The food and flavors here are excellent! My husband and I wanted to get away from fish n chips or even the shops that are right at the exit of the Ferry. We found them through YELP, and biked a bit of a ways up the hill in Sausalito. They are located mid hill, near residential area which provides a beautiful view. We sat indoors and were shocked that this restaurant wasn't more busy. The waiters were friendly and also gave us space to talk and think of our food options. I got the spinach/sage ravioli and added chicken. The flavor was well rounded, not over powering but perfectly even. It contained a butter sauce vs a tomato or heavy cream. I was surprised how flavorful the meal was even without onions. Ricotta cheese was stuffed in the ravioli. The portion sizes match the prices too. After biking with toddler and baby boys across the GG bridge headed to the ferry, we knew we weren't going to make it in the food department. We've never been to Sausalito and decided to give this place a try. Now, we normally don't pay for Italian, unless I'm cooking it. (It's sorta blasphemous.) The spot was rather cute, with outdoor dining and a pseudo-swanky interior perfect for wining and dining a special someone. We didn't see a kids menu (didn't really expect to see one), but ordered them a pepperoni pizza. We got the calamari. The calamari was definitely fresh, lightly fried, and the prettiest dish I've ever seen. Maybe I'm ignorant because I hail from the east coast, but there's something amazing about the hint of mauve/purple that was visible. The marinara sauce was definitely homemade, on the light side (not that chunky, stote-bought mess), and tasty. The pepperoni pizza, however, was underwhelming. In fact, with the amount of grease that dripped from it, it looked like it was once frozen and heated. Much of the edges were so crispy they were inedible. Now, I MIGHT understand such a cheap-looking pizza on a kids menu, but seeing as we're talking about the main menu, yeah, not so much. What made the experience enjoyable -- sans pizza -- was our server, Cesar. We was extremely friendly, attentive, and just a pleasure to be around.
