Restaurant was pretty quiet when we picked up our takeout & is fairly spacious size for dining in restaurant. Lots of table size options & someone with a cane can get in there if the parking curb height isn't an issue. Not sure if there's a dropped curb somewhere else. Also, not sure if the main door would be wide enough for a walker or wheelchair. Staff was friendly b & helped us realize we could order a meal that had both of what we wanted to try. Fish (the choice of cod & halibut meal) were lightly battered, flaky when eating & to me, they were large pieces. We enjoyed both enjoyed them. Fries that came with the meal were nothing special but we really enjoyed the tartar sauce. They included vinegar & ketchup as well as forks and napkins in our takeout bag. Takeout was wrapped in newspaper & fries were included with one of the fish pieces in a cardboard tray. As I haven't enjoyed fish & chips since being out on the coast in Oct, I'm not sure if that's the average pricing now but seemed a bit expensive for 2 pieces of fish (even looking at only ordering one type). COVID #25 This place needs a bit of a shout out. The food is actually quite good. I know about this place from the reviews, and of course one of my Yelp stalkers has been here. Had a good experience with fish and chips at Pajo's couple of months ago. Due to the park setting, spent half of the time fending my food from flies and crows. Thought to find an indoor facility this time. Years ago, had C-Lover but wasn't impressed with the service or portion of the food for the price. Thought to search for something new. After much research, it was down to Cockney King and Austin Fish House. Though overall the reviews of Austin's is not as impressive but the value was superior. When we heard they had wild cod, the deal was sealed. We went on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to get their lunch specials and add a piece of cod or halibut if the portions were too small. Turns out they have an AYCE deal on. The 16.99 AYCE comes with 3 large pieces of cod each weigh 4.4-5 oz (and yes we brought our weight). They were kind enough to switch out the fries for coleslaw for no extra cost. Killer deal just the 3 pieces were enough. Overall excellent experience. Great service from greet to finish. The staff was friendly and timely attentive. The wild cod as fantastic; fresh, flaky with a light thin batter. Great deal. Great price. This place has exceeded our expectations. Will be back. I absolutely love the Austin Fish House. I've eaten at this restaurant for almost 20 years! They have by far the biggest pieces of fish for their All-You-Can-Eats, bigger than any other Fish n Chip joint in the lower mainland. If you are new to Austin Fish House you must try the deep-fried mushrooms, the popcorn shrimp or the poutine, I always get extra cheese and gravy on my poutine! Don't expect then traditional cheese curds though they use grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese. The service at the Austin Fish House house is the best I've ever experienced at a diner like restaurant. The two waitresses treat you like family, it's a refreshing change having two people who actually care about the people they are serving. I don't know if I've ever gone more than a month or two without eating here, it's a Coquitlam classic without a doubt. If you live in the area you should eat here and support this place because the people that work here care and they deserve success. Pro Tip: The Poutine is the ultimate hangover cure. Hmm, something's changed with the fish and chips here. Austin used to be much better... way more flavourful, fresh, and crispy. The past couple times have been quite a letdown. This last time, the fish was very very dry. Hardly any fish inside overcooked batter. The batter was hard, not crunchy in most places... and in the other places, soggy and oily. The batter had no flavour except for the taste of too much oil. Oysters were small and rather tasteless as well. The batter was nice on these, but there was hardly any oyster inside. I think they need to be a bigger variety for a nice deep fried oyster. The fries are similar to how they've always been... kinda boring. No salt, no crispiness... I also wish that the tartar sauce had a bit more to it. It's pretty one-dimensional... just a creamy, sweet and slightly mustardy? dressing of a sauce. The fish batter was thin, the fish was flaky which was a good sign of freshness. The oil used in deep fried is very good, as none of us experienced inflammation the day after we ate. Usually restaurant that cheap out on replacing oxidized oil with new oil will cause the food to have high level of rancid oil that cause our body to be inflamed. I was full after eating 1 piece of fish. Next time I will just order the 1-piece lunch platter. The fries were hand cut, and had authentic potato taste as supposed the flour-based fries from McDonald's that rely on msg for taste. Coleslaw is very basic and is NOT a feature. Service was very good that day - we were served by a young person who was very polite and attentive. There was another table at opening hours so the place was not yet busy. Decor wise it is old but very clean. Since we are getting such good value of food, I think the owners focus all the money on quality fish and oil instead of fancy decoration. So I am totally overlooking the decor. Afterall I am here for the fish, not the decor. Caveat: This is a franchise business, so our good experience may not be replicated in other locations. I wanted some fish and chips for lunch. So we ended up here after a quick Yelp search. We were pleasantly surprised that there were lunch specials on weekends. My date and I each ordered one of the lunch specials choices. I am not sure what is the "fish" they used but I assume it was pollock. The fish was lightly battered and the batter stuck to the fish well. There was a heaping pile of fries - pipping hot which is how I like my fries served. The clam chowder was a bit weak. This one was mainly potato and a few pieces of clams. There was unlimited tartar sauce served in a squeeze bottle. Service was friendly. Price was great. I went there last Saturday, January 8th. We both ordered haddock, fries and coleslaw for dinner, which also comes with a bun. We were served the buns, which were fresh, before our fish, but weren't given any plates to put them on. The fish came out. They had given me the Pollock instead of the Halibut! I asked is this the Haddock or the Pollock? They said it was the haddock. That was a lie as The Pollock had a fishy, greasy taste and texture. It was not getting the order mixed up with someone else's order as we were the only diners in the restaurant. I stated to the Asian woman as I was leaving was that Haddock or Pollock and she stumbled over her response, half saying Pollock then saying it was Haddock. I've been treating myself to fish and chips on weekends since I was a teen and I know the taste difference between the two fish. I was invited for lunch at The Austin Fish House today. It was a fair size divey type of place with plenty of parking in the front. The friendly lady at the register greeted us and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. As soon as we were settled, she brought us the menus and took our drink orders right away. The menu had plenty of selections of fish, seafood and chicken. We all decided to go for the 1 Halibut and chips with coleslaw and bun. The service was amazing with the 1 pleasant lady running the register (for both Dine in and take away) and food while bussing the tables. She delivered our drinks and meals quickly. The fish and chips were straight out of the fryer so they were too hot to eat right away so I decided to season my food with the condiments already on the table. Sadly their malt vinegar is too watery so I had to drench (more than normal) my meal but surprisingly the fish batter was still crunchy and the batter itself was very flavourful. The fish I got was a good size and was fresh, juicy, flaky and tender. The chips seem to be double fried so they were still nice and soft on the inside while crunchy on the outside. The bun, although warmed up, was not really needed and the coleslaw needed more vinegar and seasoning. The table side tartar sauce was the grocery variety (mostly commercial mayo and relish) so very weak and bland. read more

I'll have to agree with the others. I used to love to come here, but the conversion to frozen fries (It has that distinct McCain frozen flavour) has thrown me off.
