I come here for the hot food rather than for the raw seafood. I like the crabmeat sandwich here as it has real pieces of crabmeat, it is not all chopped up. You can taste the sweetness of the crabmeat as it is not smothered in Mayo or dressing. The deep fried oysters are coated panko style. It is not oily though it does get to you after a while. Maybe I'm just not big on fried stuff. The combo has 4 pieces of the fried oysters and clam chowder. Not too bad. The clam chowder is disappointing as it is very starchy tasting. I will not get this. Fish and chips is their specialty and they have other seafood burgers too. Besides the hot food, you can get live crabs, oysters and clams here. There are also cooked shrimps and crabmeat which you can buy by the pound. Frozen and fresh seafood is also a available here. A good place to get that for those living in this area. Tasty seafood place in the Maplewood area. The location is a bit tricky to find. The shop is part of a giant faceless business park. I made the mistake of trying to enter from Forester. This is the most inefficient way, as the shop is literally on the opposite corner of the entire complex. If heading E on Dollarton, go straight past Forester and turn R at the 3rd long building. In other words, Crab Shack is located at the very NE corner of the entire complex, right before Maplewood Flats. Seriously wish someone had told me this, as I spent 10 minutes driving around like an idiot. After parking and waiting for my blood pressure to go down, it was time to check out the shop. The place is set up like something one might find at a marina. The place is pretty busy, and my understanding is that a lot of things sell out regularly. This happened with the clam chowder on the day I went, so I settled with a crab sandwich. The product is quite fresh and tasty, and the price definitely reflected it. Staff were friendly, though they were pretty swamped. Guess I'll come back at some point to try their clam chowder. Recommended. read more

The hot food menu has your usual cod/halibut/salmon fish n chips, plus fish burgers, calimari, clam chowder, tacos, etc. The salmon patties or sausages make for an easy meal at home. Candied salmon or cod is always a great snack. A little on the pricey side overall, but good quality and selection, and convenient location if you're around Deep Cove. Fish and chip shops are few and far between on the North Shore, so this is a nice find. A bit off the beaten track in a commercial complex is a fresh fish shop with an abundance of live crabs. We got take out fish and chips, breaded prawns and calamari. It was reasonably priced and while waiting I picked up a number of hefty fresh shrimp and halibut cakes for another day. 3 at $3.50/each or $4 individually. Being a Saturday an hr before close the shop for busy and we ended up waiting around 45mins after calling it in with a 25 min wait. 30 mins before close they closed the kitchen for new orders. We got 3 pieces of halibut and chips for $35 which seemed like a good deal. The fish was meaty and hearty and the chips were fresh. A little on the greasy side but a few mins in the air fryer added a bit of crisp to them. The place itself is more of a grab and go shop with a bar style table along the window for waiting or a quick meal. It felt a little tired, has seen better days, but that's not to discount the quality of the seafood. Pretty darn good for take out. The Wall has numerous people's choice type awards and a handful of celeb visitors. If you're passing through and looking for a seafood take out, this is worth a try! Edit: after having had the shrimp and fish cakes bought to cook at home, it's worth noting we found them to be about 90% potato... Food is is really tasty and we feel full after lunch. It is hard now a days when eating out. We have a crab sandwitch, the bun they choose match the seafood very well. A light sweet dish where ingredience (some veghie and sauce) blend in just right. Not necessary a wow dish (because that is seafood) , but my first thought is I have not eat a crab sanwitch this good ever. We also. Have clam chowder with fry oyster combo. Clam Chowder is top notch. Hearty, creamy, you get clam almost every scoop. Savory enough to be just right and want to have the next scoop. And very importantly,.filling. Fry oyster is also very juicy and well breaded. There is couple catch in this experience thou, they are more a seafood shop than a resturant, so they have seafood shop service and ambiance. When we are there (first customer in the morning) they already run out (to be precise, we took the last two) oyster, so you have to be flexible as some seafood is just not available all the time. What happened? Did they sell out? We went for a fish and chip fix last week. I had 2 pc halibut and chips(30$) and my husband had 2 pc sole. Halibut is in season right now and my pcs tasted like last weeks halibut, my husbands sole had the same fishy taste. So dissappointed. The chips were fine. I came over to taste their famous Crab Sandwich with a most delicious bun. It was incredible and it was the best crab sandwich I've ever had in my life. Tempted by this house I bought to take away frozen crab cakes to make them another time. I just made them and horror it was not crab cakes but 80% potato with only 20% crab...!!! Rating based of food quality only(4.5*) Halibut fish and chips 3pc $24, fair price but the fish was amazing juicy and hot and tender The batter was done just right not over cooked, not over powering, just perfect to support the fish. Props to the chef for finding perfect size to batter to cook ratio- super hard to achieve. The onions rings also the best I had out of all the fish and chips in lower mainland. Fries were fresh too. They don't cater with welcoming open arms and they don't customize your order such as upgrade to poutine or mix and match your fish but that's not their specialty, they are a fresh fish and crab store to begin with. read more

We ordered fish and chips from here. Total two two pieces fish and chips and calamari, one was Cod and other was salmon. We were excited to taste and taste was fine. Services was good and friendly. We had to wait for our order but just only 10-15 minutes. When we started eating, we noticed that we didn't get our order right which was two pieces of cod and two pieces salmon. Where's the fish!!??!?! Ordered fish taco combo. Asked the clerk if there was any fish on my taco. He walked away. I guess not. I am one for giving businesses enough chances to redeem themselves but no more. There are few restaurants that leave you as hungry when you leave as when you entered. This is one. If the portion size wasn't small enough lets talk abut the staff....where are they? Standing out front while everyone is standing in the back eating their very large fish and chips. The Crab Shop is on a small highway in an industrial mall, next to a Subway sandwich shop. If I hadn't been told to go there I'm not sure I would have tried it. My friend in Vancouver lives about two blocks away in one of the classic stoveless basement apartments also known as mortgage helpers, so he eats here about twice a week. He recommended splitting a two piece fish and getting two chowders, but I decided we should have the three piece fish and I would just taste his chowder (being a bit of a piggy). The chowder was delicious - not too thick and full of finely diced veggies, hefty amounts of taters, clams and thick bacon. I felt tiny pangs of regret over not getting one, but then the fish arrived fresh and steaming hot on a bed of also-fresh, non-greasy fries. The fish had a thin crust of super flavorful batter, and was cooked perfectly. I have never gobbled up fish n chips the way I did at the Crab Shop. They offer salmon (which we had), halibut and cod. They also have live and cooked crabs and shrimp, smoked and candied salmon, and other ecoutrements like breading. If you're driving up the Dollarton highway or are just visiting vancouver and feel like a jaunt to some awesome fried fish, it's worth a stop or a seabus and bus ride from downtown Vancouver to try some fish n' chips at the Crab Shop. read more

I came in the winter and the smaller shop was filled with other lunchers, no room to sit I think they have a patio in the summer. I have been going to the Crab Shop for over 30 years. Sometimes it is excellent, sometimes not. Today was somewhere in the middle. One piece cod-delicious teeny tiny piece. Oysters-great! However, they now have given up on the lemon slices. And! The kicker is when you get home, no tarter sauce! I know, I should of checked. After all, it is such a hard job remembering all that stuff! It's okay, I suppose... fried oysters are always a treat, however these big guys at the Crab Shop seemed a tad bland, and perhaps overcooked. The crab cake burger, as well, was just lacking a little bit of something-something. The taste of char/sear overpowered the delicate crab. Was hearing about this place from my friends who are locals. And true to the rumer the fish taco's were to die for! The ones we had were full and tasty. We also ordered the chowder, which was ok but the star was definatly the taco. I must go back again for more. Nice unassuming place with limited seating. Tried crab sandwich and deep fried oysters, and chowder soup, all of them taste amazingly good. Oyster was crispy and delicious and we also loved the soup. This only thing that wasn't perfect is there are a tiny bit of crab shell in the sandwich so we have to eat carefully and pick them out, that's why I give a 4/5. My family has been a patron of this shop for over 20 years and they used to have the best crab cakes. However when we ordered this week, I couldn't even taste any crab. I called and asked to speak to the manager to tell her this and she was hardly interested and said they put 50-50 (potatoes and crab). I am extra disappointed at their lack of wanting to "make it right" for a loyal customer. I guess I should have read the latest reviews. Had a terrible lunch experience here. My friend and I each ordered a one piece halibut and fries to go. We were going to eat in the car in the parking lot as there were no tables outside. Opened our order and there was no salt or pepper. Went back into the store to ask for some as the fries looked like frozen fries. After waiting a while for the two staff members to finish waiting on their customers, I was told they don't have salt and pepper for take out. No lemon either. Seriously? What restaurant doesn't have salt or pepper for takeout, especially with fish and chips? The woman looked at me like I was crazy for asking. This place really pissed me off. We went in for a dinner of fish and chips after seeing an ad in the North Shore News proclaiming "Vancouver's Best Fish and Chips!" This was a Saturday evening. We arrived at 5:58, already knowing what we wanted to order. There was a couple eating at one of the outside tables and no line up inside at the counter. We went up and asked for an order of salmon and chips, and calamari. The woman behind the counter said, "We stop taking orders for cooked food at 6:00." It wasn't 6:00 yet. We asked if we could just order take-out rather than eating in, thinking they just might not want to stay open the time it would take for us to eat. She refused, and gave the impression that she couldn't care less whether we wanted to spend $25 there or not. "Maybe next time," the woman added as we turned, disgusted, to walk out the door. To that I say: Not bloody likely. First of all, what kind of place advertises their fish and chips and then STOPS SERVING THEM at 6:00 pm on a sunny summer Saturday night?!? And then even more irritating, they declare by fiat that 5:58 is really 6:00. There was another couple eating outside. They couldn't close up shop any earlier than that couple took to finish their meal. We could've had our take-out and been out the door long before then. So rude and obnoxious! When you walk in, you realize this place is not a regular dine in restaurant. It is a combination between a fish market and a subway. The seating arrangement could definitely be more organized and comfortable, but you are not coming here for the food. Most of us ordered the crab sandwich and a fish taco for lunch. Ordered fries (good, not salty, but can't help feeling the lack of taste and complete lack of feeling full) Crab sanwich - actually a crabby patty ahaha! just like Spongebob...OMG! I died laughing inside after realizing they actually exist. A patty made of crab, veggies and bread (oddly felt a potatoe in my mouth) and cooked again mostly hot all the way through, with lettuce and tomatoe (not much, sadly) and over-kill of sauce ---tartar, some other sauce. This time I found: one bottle white vinegar asked for lemon - found it on a table with two people hogging it hot sauce - good but salty as hell 680mg for one tsp? or tbsp? cant recall STILL NO BLACK PEPPER..what the heck? I recommend eating this not as a patty - I think you get more crab that way, but since I 'm not a strict sea eater, I prefer it being a little hidden in sauces sometimes. read more

Came to The Crab Shop after hearing good things. Had a cup of clam chowder there, it was way too salty, not as thick as I am used to clam chowders, and there were no veggies or potatoes to be found. Plus only very small clam bits and not many of those either. I also bought some crab bisque for home, heard it was good and I was so so so disappointed. If North Vancouver has an institution, this is the place. It is legendary among the locals. And while every fish and chip shop advertises itself as having the best, THIS is where you actually get the best. Bar none, hands down. The service is usually slow and always has been so proceed with patience. If you drive a little further up the Dollarton you can see the previous location, complete with large crab on the side. Across the road is a peaceful bird sanctuary and an excellent place to eat your fish and chips. read more

I've been here a few times. The first time I didn't have my debit with me and they didn't take MasterCard. Since I called in for the food it was already made. My bill was almost $30 and I was only able to pay $10 cash. They were nice enough to let me have the food and I paid them back later. I liked their cod and chips. My favorite is their shrimp. They are decent size, lightly breaded and good seasoning. I also like their calamari. They make it similar to their shrimp. I havent bought their fresh seafood yet. Seems pricey. Their staff seems to be quick for the times I've been there but not the friendliest. If you are in the area I suggest trying it out! read more

The Crab Shop, also known locally as the Crab Shack, has been on Dollarton Highway for forever and a day. They started out in an actual shack on the water near Maplewood Mud Flats, then moved across the street to another shack-like building in front of the International College, and have now settled in a shiny new, non-shack-like location in one of the industrial parks built last year. So, I've been driving past the Crab Shack pretty much my whole life, but never went in until yesterday. I knew of their rep for excellent fish and chips, and so we ordered a two-piece halibut and chips to share. The fish was big and juicy with a crispy yet satisfyingly greasy batter on it. The chips weren't the greatest I've ever had, but the fish made up for them. The service was a little slow, as only one person was working the counter and they had to both take orders for fish-and-chips and other lunch items, plus fill orders for the fresh seafood in the cases. There wasn't any music playing, and it was kind of cold too (for the freshness of the seafood, I get that). I would definitely shop here for fresh seafood, and in the summer, if I'm heading out to one of Deep Cove's beautiful parks, I'm definitely getting some snacks from here. Yelpers, I was duped! But I'm still giving this place 4 stars for a couple of reasons. First, let me explain my most recent visit. When I ventured for a second time to this off-the-path venue and ordered the cod and chips, I fool you not, it wasn't the same fish I had been raving about before! As my disappointed taste buds processed this new reality my brain raced for an explanation. Reason 1 (aka: The most likely explanation): My initiation to this place was based on halibut! Horrors! And yet not. I'm now a firm believer in dolling out a bit more dough for the really good stuff instead of the cod. My thanks to whomever it was who plunked those pieces of halibut into my order instad of cod. Fantastic place to stop for some fish and chips. I got the 3-piece salmon fish and chips for $15. I usually tear the batter off and leave it in a pile when I get fish & chips, but their batter here is really well seasoned so I actually ate it, enjoyed it, and didn't feel queasy after! Sharing a 3 piece salmon fish and chips was just enough for two hungry adults. You can eat in, but the local tip is to get your fish and chips to go and then walk back across the road and west one block to get to Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers. They're happy to have to bring your own food in while you enjoy their beer. read more

Someone else said they would have never gone to the Crab Shack if they hadn't been told by a trusted friend how good it was and I agree. It's in a new but character-less industrial mall on Dollarton Highway but the fresh fish is amazing. I haven't actually had any of the made food there (fish and chips, salmon, crab, halibut burgers, calamari, etc). but I hear it's fantastic. I stop by once a week to pick up the made daily crab patties and I cook them up at home. They also have salmon, halibut and shrimp. Their fresh off the boat fish selection is fantastic as well - I definitely notice a difference when I am cooking with freshly caught fish. I haven't tried cooking crab or lobster yet but they always have a selection of live and frozen. Prices are very reasonable - from $21/lb for ahi tuna to $13/lb for red snapper. The crab/salmon/etc patties are either $3 or $4 each. read more

Stopped by for some crab meat. Very rude and dismissive sales clerk; zero customer service. Crab meat was just ok, lots of shells though. My main gripe is with their crab cakes (take home ones, to cook at home). I asked the rude clerk if their crab cakes only had crab or if they contained other seafood meat as well. Definitely the wrong question; should have asked if the crab cakes had any crab meat! The rude clerk looked at me suggesting how dare I ask such a question and she rudely answered that they just had crab meat. Well the crab cakes are 99.9% what I'm guessing are potatoes. Truly the most un-crabby crab cakes I ever had. I thought at $5.50 for each disk, that they were a bargain; little did I know that I was paying way too much for what could at best be described as "potatoe cakes".
