After a recent root canal I had infection and extreme pain, I could not open my jaw more than a centimeter, and swallowing was difficult. My dentist, the orthodontist, and even my general doctor could not identify the root cause. I was finally referred to Dr. Ding at Austin Oral who was able to diagnose the issue and prescribe a different antibiotic that targeted the problem. Now a few days later the pain is minimal and the problem seems to be going away. I credit Austin Oral for getting me in right away upon referral, I'm sure squeezing me between existing appointments. Dr. Ding was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. After the initial visit he got me on the calendar the next day for a follow up and now I have a follow up this week. So I also credit them with being thorough and not just sending me off to see what happens. Had an adult tongue tie surgery. Dr Ding has been extremely knowledgeable and consulted me on the right type of operation. The procedure was super quick, as a self-pay patient reasonably affordable, and lead to a substantial quality of life improvement in terms of possible tongue movement. As a result, I had a dramatic improvement in tongue movement and no longer run into issues, where people could not understand me and now I can enunciate clearly. The office and medical staff at the 38th St office are exceptional and always went out of their way to take care of me and ensure my needs are met. I've only seen Dr. Quaroni and he is the best Oral Surgeon I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. He is extremely patient focused and goes out of his way to make sure you're not experiencing pain during the procedure. He's pulled 3 or 4 teeth for me. He also performed a bone graft to prepare for an implant, and has installed 3 implants for me. I can't say enough good things about him and the staff at their office. Prior to meeting with Dr. Ding my wife was told by staff that an initial consultation would cost $100. Our dentist had already sent x-rays but my wife was told when she arrived that Dr. Ding preferred his own x-rays. So after no more than 30 minutes with Dr. Ding my wife was charged $320 at the end of the visit and told that if she went ahead with the procedure the extra charge of $220 ($320 -$100) would reduce the subsequent bill by $220. We are assuming this extra $220 was for the x-rays. So really if Dr. Ding wants his own x-rays and they cost $220 we should have been told the cost of the initial visit was going to be $320, not $100. If my wife had known this initial visit was going to cost $320 she would not have come. We are very disappointed that the staff was not more forthcoming in explaining the charges for this initial visit and can not recommend this provider due to this deception. read more

Hats off to Dr. Ding - the BEST BEST BEST oral surgeon IN THE WORLD! I was referred to Dr. Ding by my family dentist - Dr. Sura at Reveal Dental next door when I needed to remove 4 wisdom teeth and the other 4 regular teeth for my orthodontics treatment. If you go to Dr. Ding, I can 1 million percent guarantee you that you're in great hands and will have an awesome and painless experience. I came from Vietnam and had really bad and painful experience (even from cavity filling) with dentists there which has traumatized me until today. I came to Dr. Ding in Oct 2018 for a consultation when I knew that there might be a potential of removing 4 wisdom teeth. Dr. Ding's staff took my x-ray, and Dr. Ding explained everything very thoroughly. He dropped me a bomb (which I knew he would) that I had to let those 4 wisdom teeth go because they were impacted. My top ones came out in an angle leaning on my big molars. My bottom ones only peaked out of my gum for a little and they were sideway. He checked my nerves on the x-ray and said there was nothing to worry about since my nerves stayed low. One thing that gave me chills was that he would need to cut my gum open to remove the impacted bottom wisdom teeth because of the way they grew. That part freaked me out. I've never had anything cut open my whole life, and now I would have to do it in my mouth? I postponed the decision for a few months until my orthodontist told me that I really needed to let them go AS WELL AS additional 4 more to make sure for my teeth to straighten out. In mid May 2019 I was brave enough to come to Dr. Ding again and told him I was ready for the procedure and needed him to pull 4 more. He went through everything clearly and thoroughly with me again. I would be put to sleep through IV during the procedure, just so I could have the best and painless experience. He also warned me ahead of time that I would hate him for 2-3 days because my bottom wisdom teeth would be a bit difficult to take out, so I would expect to be sore a bit more. My appointment was at 7:30am and I was taken in right at 7:30am. The assistant got my blood pressure, put wires and stickers on my body to measure my breathing during my sleep. Dr. Ding waited no time to come in. He's also an expert in injecting IV. I just followed his instruction on how to release or hold my hand, and everything was in without me feeling a needle poking my skin. I was then immediately assisted with an oxygen mask. Dr. Ding then said something and before he finished his one sentence, I was knocked out around 7:40am. Then I heard people talking and tools being put away. An assistant asked if I was awake and the procedure was successfully done. I looked at the clock and it was 8:10am - it only took Dr. Ding 30 minutes or less to pull 8 teeth in one seating. Is he a superman?! I was then moved to the recovery room, still in and out of the other world. Dr. Ding went over my medicine with my husband, what I should and shouldn't do, and all that good stuff. I left the office 30 minutes later. Recovery: Painless and too good to be expected. Dr. Ding called me that afternoon to check I was doing, how the bleeding was, and how I felt. It was very nice thoughtful of him to do so. I already expected to be sore and uncomfortable for 2-3 days as he warned me, but I was not sore at all. My cheeks did not even swell, I didn't get to look like a chipmunk. People couldn't tell that I got the procedure done from just looking at me or talking to me. I stayed on the prescribed Ibuprofen and only took the strong pain killers on the day of the procedure just to calm it down after the anesthesia wore off. Other than that, I still have a full bottle of the strong pain killers. The most important thing is to follow his instructions very carefully and everything will be just fine. Post-op follow-up: One week after the procedure, I came back to visit Dr. Ding again to make sure I was healing properly, and I was. Dr. Ding was always available to answer any question/concern and see me if something was bothering me. The recovery process really shows how skilled/talent Dr. Ding is. Even with those complicated teeth, he pulled it off as if nothing happened, and I was so impressed. Pricing: I see reviews saying that it's pricey here. As a very happy patient, I'm confident to tell you that you get what you pay for. When it comes to your health, you can't put a price on it. I strongly recommend you to go with Dr. Ding for any oral or maxillofacial needs. I'm not saying he's expensive or cheap because I didn't compare prices anywhere. I 100% trust my dentist's referrals. Dr Ding, Bella & Katelyn YOU ARE MY HEROES!! I was fighting a pretty bad tooth infection. The dentist I work for had given me 2 types of antibiotics and nothing seemed to work. I went to work everyday last week had my Dentist numb the area so I could continue to work. Yes shots in my mouth daily on a volunteer basis means PAIN! lots of PAIN! Pain was awful and by 10am Monday morning I had enough!!! Unfortunately my dentist wasn't able to numb the area due to the infection. I had three 80 year old wisdom teeth extracted nine days ago by Dr.Craig Knell. So far zero issues: No dry holes, minimum pain (never higher than 2 out of 5), and almost no bleeding. I recommend Dr. Knell. Having said that I should add a couple of things I feel Austin Oral Surgery can improve. I received no follow-up call. Since I am 80 years old, and healing issues can be affected, a call seems to be appropriate. I Along with my meds I was given a syringe, but no written direction as how or why to use it. When I called about day 5 after the procedure I asked about the syringe and was advised I must use it for the next 6 to 8 weeks. Really? Seems to me that written instructions saying that are important. During my call I was advised I could come in and the Dr. would look at the extraction sites, remove debris if necessary, and comment on healing status. Making the patient responsible for contacting the doctor to obtain important information to me seems inappropriate. One: They won't tell you up front that you need to pay 100% before the procedure. They drop that on you when you show up. For the procedure. Two: They don't return calls. After suffering daily increasing pain to levels that are what I would call borderline suicide-inducing, I can't reach them. I left a message yesterday. I left a message today - both with real humans in office. No call. Now trying to reach the on call provider, but after 2 hours, no returned call. The answering service even called to see if the provider called us! Three: Treated like a drug seeker for having a preference in pain meds. Having been through surgery and been written opiates before, I learned quickly what I do and do not tolerate. I advised Ultracet doesn't work for me, requested Norco. Was given looks and argued with a bit but they eventually agreed. I told them Norco helps with pain but gives me SEVERE nausea and disorientation. They give me... 6 nausea pills. SIX! To go with 30 Norco. I also stated Oxycodone works better with fewer sides and was more or less laughed at, told they just weren't going to write it. Four: Doctor was dismissive of my concerns re: basically anything I asked. Go somewhere else. Not a chance I would ever go here again, bring a family member here, or refer them. read more

First off, I must say I am very afraid of going to any dentist, so when I found out I needed to get 4 wisdom teeth removed I was very anxious. My current dentist highly recommended Dr. Craig Knell. Every person on the staff in this office is extrememly nice and professional. Dr. Knell himself is very patient and knowledgeable. I felt from the beginning that I was in good hands. Being 40 years old, I knew I had a greater risk of pain and potential for problems. Dr. Knell walked me through the process and patiently answered all of my questions of concern. After the consultation, I spoke with the billing dept about what to expect for payment. She was very nice to speak with and explained clearly what our insurance covered and what the exact payment would be at the time of service. I was pleased at how low the entire process was going to cost! I expected much higher. When I arrived for the procedure, they placed me in the chair and even gave me a warm blanket for my comfort. I went to sleep. When I woke up, I was very aware of my surroundings (not dopey or disoriented). I was not in any pain AT ALL. The office had already called in my prescriptions so we picked them up on the way home. For the following week, I was never in any pain at all! What a shock! I expected so much more discomfort. Now, almost a month later, I have had no issues, no pain, and my gums are healing nicely. This was an extremely pleasant experience all around. I came here about a month ago to have a consult with Dr Knell to get my wisdom teeth removed. He was extremely thorough and answered all of my questions. The front office staff worked with me to provide me an appointment date that worked with my busy schedule and provided me all the necessary information up front including cost out of pocket as well as preliminary prep info. I just had my teeth removed on Friday 11/8 and upon arrival, everything went smoothly. They covered the post op information completely and also included my neighbor in the conversation as she was taking me home and to the pharmacy to get my meds. I'm very pleased with the medical care I received here. Dr. Ding and his staff were highly recommended by my family dentist. After literally passing out from pain being caused by a wisdom tooth (elevated blood pressure), I was forced to go to the ER or by chance call an oral surgeon and be seen there. Sitting in front of the ER knowing my BP was elevated because of the pain I was experiencing, I decided to call Dr. Ding's office and see if there was any way they could see me immediately. Once I explained my situation, I was placed on a brief hold and asked if I could get to them within the next 15 mins. That was a blessing in disguise. At 34 years old, I knew for many years I should have my wisdom teeth pulled, but the fear of being in pain afterwards kept me from doing so. Once I was x-rayed it was determined that I needed four wisdom teeth extracted and one biopsied. Dr. Ding helped me understand what was happening and explained what would happen afterwards. He and his staff saw I was in extreme pain and very nervous. I was comforted and given time to calm myself down before being taken into surgery. It's now five days later and I'm just now experiencing some pain. This morning I called and spoke with the staff. Again, I was immediately brought in. Nobody ever WANTS to go to the oral surgeon, but if you find yourself in need, this organization is the best! I thought I had chipped a chunk off a crown, but when I went to my regular dentist he discovered it was actually a severely broken molar. He didn't feel comfortable extracting it, so his office called AOS and they agreed to see me immediately. Upon consultation with Dr. Ding, it was determined that my best course of action would be oral surgery with IV sedation. The surgery was scheduled for the next morning at 7:30. The surgery was quick, efficient and PAINLESS! I took an OTC Tylenol shortly afterwards, mainly on a preventative basis, and have had no other meds since (almost 30 hours after the procedure). I haven't had to touch the prescription Dr. Ding wrote. I'd say my lack of post-op pain is an indication of the great care that Dr. Ding took to be as non-invasive as possible. As a matter of fact, the whole team (Dr. Ding, Jamie, Katelyn, and Lindsey) was just great - they were all very caring and kind. I recently brought my two teenagers to Austin Oral Surgery to have their wisdom teeth extracted. We saw Dr. Ding. He and his entire staff are amazing. The entire process was so easy. I highly recommend Dr. Ding and the entire staff at Austin Oral Surgery. I had four teeth extracted due to adult braces. They fit me in with short notice to accommodate my schedule. They offer online registration so they can validate insurance and complete required health history paperwork. Pre-procedure instructions were sent via email in a timely fashion. The procedure went very well. Dr. Ding reviewed everything with me ahead of time. In recovery, he came by for post-procedure instructions, etc and I was on my way. I experienced normal numbness for 10 hours and took the recommended prescribed pain meds. Though, after one dose, I realized I didn't need them. His extractions were done so well, I have zero pain 24 hours post-opp. He even called my personally to see how everything went. Impressive. read more

Our primary dentist referred my wife to Austin Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to have her wisdom teeth removed. We went to the office to check them out and made an appointment. The receptionist said that she would verify insurance benefits and notify us if there was any out of pocket cost. On the day of the appointment, the doctor checked my wife's teeth. When we checked out, the receptionist said that our insurance would cover the visit and we did not have to pay. The cost for the extraction would be over $1,000. Within a week, we got a bill in the mail for $72. I did not understand why so I called and was told our insurance did not cover the visit. I was going to go to the office to talk to them about the bill, but without my knowledge, someone from their billing department called my wife and demanded payment. My wife said she was scared with the person on the phone threatening her with legal consequences if she did not pay. Keep in mind the bill was not due until the end of the month. Then we went to the office again to ask about the cost of the procedure because we did not want to be surprised by other charges later. We also needed to update my wife's dental insurance as she got a new job. The lady at the counter (she said she was the "office manager") took our information and insurance and stated she will email the cost to us. When my dad was a little upset that they could not provide an accurate estimate, the "office manager" replied, "Sir, I know you are not happy. We can give you your x-rays and you can find another oral surgeon." Because I was unhappy, I tried to explain to the "office manager" that because the $72 was a surprise charge that we were not anticipating, you should give us an accurate estimate. Once again, she said to me, "Sir, I know you are not happy. We can give you your x-rays and you can find another oral surgeon." That must be their slogan for dealing with unhappy customers. My wife ended up being scared of the office. She was almost in tears. How can she feel comfortable having surgery at this place after this lady's words? It has been several weeks now and we still have not received an email with an accurate estimate. Once this office gets your money, they do not care about customer service. This was the first time in our life that we were told we were not welcome at a dentist. If we go to another surgeon, we will have to pay for another exam. They know they have us hostage. Not everyone can afford to spend $72 each time for a new dentist. read more

The waiting room is nicely decorated super clean and very welcoming. My Dr.(Knell) was amazing. He was very concerned thorough and told me to ask any questions I wanted. When the procedure time came it was very quick no complications and he even called me the same day to check up on me. But the highlight of my experience was his assistant Crystal Willis. I arranged to take my son for a consult to have his wisdom teeth removed. The appointment was scheduled weeks in advance and was scheduled before he went back to school. We provided them with ALL of our insurance information including our medical and TWO separate dental policies. They called the day before to confirm the appointment and said everything was good with the insurance. We arrived for the appointment and he was seen, a panoramic xray was taken and then we were taken to schedule the surgery. Everything up to this point was fine. When we sat down with the scheduler (who also reviews the costs), we were then told that our medical policy had coverage for wisdom teeth removal and because they were not a provider for our medical insurance we would have to pay 100% out of pocket, despite being covered by 3 policies that covered the extraction! Had they told us this upfront, we would not have wasted our time going through the consult but I think all they wanted was to bill our insurance for the consult and xrays. I sent a request for the pano xrays to be sent to me the same day as the appointment and received no response. 10 days later, I followed up they confirmed they received the email but for whatever reason, they decided to not respond. When I spoke to them and again requested the xrays, they wanted to charge and additional $15 (on top of the $200.00 they received from our insurance company) to send them to me. I have never, ever heard of any medical practice doing this. Horrible customer service! We've had PLENTY of xrays done and shared to us so we can provide them to other doctors and never once were we asked to pay another fee to receive a copy of the xray. read more

I was referred to Austin Oral by another Dentist, so I am not a regular patient, and I certainly didn't feel very welcome when I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment. Granted, I was there for an extraction, and I wasn't particularly excited to be there, but I was friendly and cordial to the staff. Everyone I dealt with seemed short, and didn't particularly care about how I felt, or if there was anything they could do to make my visit better. I guess this is more common these days, but I prefer a place that at least tries to comfort you in some way. It wouldn't hurt for them to be a little bit superficially nice to someone who is probably sad about having a tooth pulled. What really upset me, and the reason I took time out of my busy schedule to write this review, is that I felt they were trying to force me into paying $545 extra just to be sedated during the procedure. When I first came in, I asked the person at the counter how much an extraction would cost. She said it would START at $311. In addition to the cost of the extraction they gave me a $94 evaluation whether I wanted it or not, and they charged me an additional $82 for Nitrous, which I did not request. A "tool" they apparently use to make you feel like you're not getting screwed as much is they say they'll deduct the $122 for the x-ray (which they insist on taking), even though my personal Dentist already furnished them with a perfectly good one. Basically, the grand total for my experience was $487...for PULLING A TOOTH! I had quotes for $175 from somewhere else, but because the appointment was already made, and I was already there, I went ahead and paid for it. This, by the way, was the first time I've ever been required to pay for a visit PRIOR to the procedure. After the procedure, and as I was coming down from the $82 Nitrous (which I asked that they go easy on), the Doctor said something that I didn't hear and bolted out of the room, presumably to the next patient that was waiting in the assembly line. He didn't ask how I felt, or if I needed anything. Nothing. I felt very rushed out of the place, and unfortunately I didn't even hear if I needed to come back to get the stitch removed or not. The Assistant that was working with the Doctor handed me some gauze and a script and showed me to the front door. It was about 90 seconds from the end of the procedure to the time the door hit me in the butt. For much more than I feel this appointment should have cost, I would have expected to be treated much nicer, and I also would have expected some better pain medication. Obviously Hydrocodone is in the news these days, but one of the few things I thought I could look forward to after this experience would be that I could lay in bed for the rest of the day and be comfortable. Seriously, Ultracet is like taking aspirin, and I'm still hurting several days after my visit. I don't particularly think Hydrocodone makes the pain go away, but it makes me not really care that I have pain. Ultracet doesn't afford me that luxury. So basically, for what probably should cost $200-300, Austin Oral Surgery in Cedar Park wants $1,000 for....and isn't even nice about it. I have a fairly good job, and I make a little money, but if I would have never asked any questions and just let these people corral me into the treatment they would have profited from the most, I would have been out $1,000. I purposely did not mention the Doctor by name, because he is young, and is probably using this company to build his career with the hopes of eventually going into practice for himself. I expect that this company's emphasis on high profit comes from the top and he is just trying to make a living. As far at the Assistant that helped the Doctor, I assume she's just there for a paycheck, and is "going with the flow". I always try to put myself in the other person's shoes when I deal with people. This company never did that. They obviously never learned the Golden Rule. To their credit, the extraction was successful, and I got what I needed. I give them 1 star because that's how they made me feel. They made me feel like a sucker, and I was lucky I was aware enough to question them and push back when they tried to force me to be put to sleep during the procedure. I probably should have made a few more calls and found a place that had nicer staff, and was a little more affordable...but when you're in pain and you've been referred to this place, what are you going to do? Let's start my saying I dislike going to the dentist. However Dr Ding and his wonderful staff made my visit such an awesome experience. Not only were they professional and explained everything in its entirety. Dr Ding called and left me a voicemail checking to see how I was doing and wished be a speedy recovery . My spouse had dental services done at this dentist. I was charged $4886.20 before the procedures was done. After some time, they have submitted a claim to my insurance company. The insurance company came back saying that I only owe them $4376.20. I have called them back to ask for a refund and they said that there is no refund. After that, I have contacted my insurance company which reassured me that I only owe $4376.20. The insurance company contacted the dentist's office, and the insurance company was told that they are not honoring the lower price because of an insurance waiver that I have signed. Basically, I have signed a waiver saying that if the insurance company does not pay for the procedures, I am due the full amount. Yes, the insurance company did not cover all the procedures, but they still had lower pre-negociated prices that the dentist should have honored. The insurance company did reassure me that they have to honor them because they are in-network, but since they were told about that waiver, they couldn't do anything about it. After hearing that, I went to the dentist to ask for an explanation. When I asked why they wouldn't honor the insurance carrier's contracted amount, they were telling me that because the insurance denied coverage, the law allows them to charge me the full amount. They have changed the story. Which is it, The law? The waiver? I don't trust this business anymore and I believe this is a predatory business practice. My general dentist referred me to Austin Oral Surgery for an extraction of a tooth, not a molar. I tried several times to reach them for an appointment. One time, I was put on hold for a long time and finally hung up. On three other occasions, I left a message and no one called me back. I started to have a toothache and called them again and again one day. They said they could see me the following week. When I stressed that I was in pain and would like to see a dentist ASAP, the woman became irate and told me to go somewhere else if I didn't like it. So, I did. I was referred here for wisdom tooth removal by a friend who had a great experience with her daughter previously, and I am so grateful for her recommendation. Working in the medical field myself, I truly appreciate when a physician of any kind takes time with their patients and makes each appointment personal. Dr. Ding thoroughly explained the procedure to me at my consultation (individualized to my particular tooth situation), ensured I had no questions, was incredibly friendly yet professional, and ensured I was comfortable the day of my procedure. He called personally the evening after my in-office surgery to ensure I was recovering as well as could be. I had minimal pain and no complications post-op, and I have to attribute the majority of that to Dr. Ding's skill level. God forbid I ever need another oral surgery, but if I do, I will certainly be returning to Dr. Ding's office. Of note: the day of my consultation, I was quoted a specific amount for services if I wanted to proceed within the week, or they could submit office notes and explanation of why IV anesthesia is necessary to my insurance prior to the date of surgery if I pushed it out slightly further to reduce my out-of-pocket expense. I chose to push it out and received information from my insurance company about the roughly $250.00 I would owe for the surgery. When I arrived to the office for surgery, I was told it would be about $400 more than what my insurance stated. I produced my paperwork, and it was explained to me that I received the appropriate paperwork from UHC and the office had not received it yet, and I paid only what UHC quoted me directly. I don't know if that was a mistake on UHC's part, the office accidentally kept previously quoted amounts in the chart, or what, but just be sure to bring documentation regarding insurance benefit-to ANY medical procedure! read more
