I would not recommend Austin Oral and Maxillofacial to anyone I know, simply based on the staff alone. Other reviews forewarned of their greedy attitude, and they are correct. I was recommended to come here by my regular dentist to have my wisdom teeth taken out, as they were the first available, and my insurance was running out. My consultation appointment was the best experience I had here.. a tactic I'm sure they use to lure you in and make you feel like you are in safe hands. That was not the case whatsoever. On the day of surgery, I arrived 45 minutes early like they tell you to do, in order to have payment taken care of. They were more than happy to take hundreds of my dollars within a minute of my arrival, but my appointment was at 9am and I wasn't seen until 9:30. I waited over an hour. Finally, a young woman called my name from the lobby, and it was I who prompted the first verbal communication, "hi how are you?' answered only with her stand-offishness and an obviously feigned half-smile. We both stood there in awkwardness until a "we going this way?" and I guessed which random direction down one of the halls my room would be. AWESOME, guess this insecure girl is going to be making me feel REAL COMFORTABLE right before I have oral surgery. She prepped the room quick as a wink and AFTER she hooked me up to oxygen didn't hesitate to snap at me- "take your jacket off" as if having jackets on was a huge rule-breaker. Didn't offer to take it for me, so I had to throw it across the room. I kind of giggle about how humorous that must've looked. "Are you nervous?" she asked. "Yes, actually, very, I've never had surgery before" I replied. And that was it. She sort of laughed to herself under her breath and then left the room to get the doctor. Why even ask me that.. No explanation of the process was given to me, I had no idea what was about to happen. When the doctor came in the room and I asked HIM how he was, he didn't even answer! And right before I'm sedated, I'm sitting there thinking.. what IS it with these people? Bad morning meeting? Office out of coffee? Am I the burden here?! And then my worst fears of surgery were confirmed during surgery when, towards the end of the surgery, I could HEAR everything that was happening around me. I WASN'T FULLY SEDATED I GUESS?? Maybe I was dreaming? Hopefully I was dreaming. After the surgery, I was in such immense pain that I fainted multiple times. When I called the office to tell them about that, and that in addition I hadn't stopped bleeding, they simply told me to double my dose of pain medication. Same response when I called the next afternoon to again, tell them that the pain was so bad that it was causing me to puke. I hadn't eaten in three days, and they prescribed me Tramadol, so I hadn't slept, either. On Fridays I guess they just don't answer their phones, so I left a message and was not called back. I went a week feeling like an absolute wreck, thinking that I had dry socket- that's literally how bad my pain was. And they couldn't be bothered about it. And now, three weeks later, I feel I am not fully healed, as I STILL have random aches and pains in my mouth, which makes me wonder how aggressive they were in taking my teeth out. So, all in all, I felt like a dollar sign. The only hospitality I was shown was during consultation when they tried their best to make me feel that they were the best choice to give my money to.. After you are out of their office, you are not their problem. Sadly, I was robbed. read more

I was having an dental emergency and was in a lot of pain. I wanted my aching tooth out really bad and I was referred by Leander dental to this place. They took me in the same day that I need to get it done. The staff is really really nice. The place is very clean. Dr Knell explained to me what he's gonna do and made sure I have other options than extracting my teeth. They had me sign paperwork's and was brought to the front explain what my financial obligations are. Paid it and they prepped me for surgery even put a blanket on me cuz i said I'm always cold. I was more excited than nervous while laying on the chair. Dr.knell went to the room and put my IV I started counting to 10 in my head and the Dr knell said open your mouth wider before you fall.... and I was out. I literally woke up to the sound of my daughter and my husbands voice. Pretty groggy but totally fine and happy while I was being wheeled out. Later in the afternoon the Dr knell gave me a call making sure I'm doing good and that I feel fine. I will def recommend this place to anyone. Fraud & lazy company - I needed my 4 wisdom teeth removed and my dentist referred me to them. For a consultation they charged me $487 which I paid. Before my surgery to remove all 4 wisdom teeth they checked my insurance balance and based on the funds availability they called me in. Post the treatment, they forgot to file the claim for over a month. Meanwhile, my dentist scheduled multiple, other (not so important work) on my teeth based on insurance funds availability that emptied the insurance money for the year. Teeth removal was the major work & expense which was covered over 90% by insurance but due to their laziness and negligence in filing the claim on time, I (customer) am charged to pay over a thousand dollars which should technically come out of their staff's salary who delayed on filing the claim. I run my own business center in a multinational company, everyone is accountable for their work. The last thing you want to do is charge the customer for your staff's incompetency or laziness. If you are using insurance, I would not recommend to go there. No complaints of the actual teeth removal work done. read more

Once again, I was the recepiant of the wizardry of Dr. Ding...For the second time, he extracted a cracked tooth to begin the journey to an implant...The culprit was a chocolate chip/pecan cookie...Alas my sweet tooth is not quite as sweet...They were able to work me into an already busy schedule...24-hours post extraction and no pain meds required...His staff is exceptional!...Professional and respectful!... Now 66 and with many years of dental experiences, Dr. Ding and team are the best I've ever experienced! read more

Dr Ding at Austin Oral Surgery is an outstanding surgeon. My 20 year old daughter had a rare tumor called ameloblastoma. This tumor eats at the bone in your face and she had a large tumor in her jaw. Dr Ding explained the procedure in detail several times before and after ensuring we all understood what we were dealing with. The procedure was a 5hr surgery where he had to cut her neck open to get to the jaw and his colleague cut her hip bone to rebuild the jaw. He was so malicious about where he cut her neck ensuring it was in a crease and it is only 3 weeks since the surgery and I can't see the scar unless she stretches her neck to really show it. I had a few opinions and talked to different oral surgeons but Dr Ding made my family feel at ease. He gave us his cell phone number and encouraged us to call anytime. We called before the surgery and after with questions and he always answered our calls. How many Drs do that now a days? None that I have encountered. During the surgery he had a nurse call me every hour to let me know how it was going and where he was at. This made it so much easier for me the worried mom. If you ever need an oral surgeon or anyone that deals with pathology patients you want Dr. Ding and his team at Austin Oral Surgery on Whitestone. I have been a patient at Austin Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for almost 5 years. I have had four dental implants done. At the times of my consultations, surgeries, and follow-up visits, I have found the staff to be totally polite and professional. I had no dental insurance, and the office manager spent time with me to work out a payment plan to cover the cost of one of my surgeries. I have never waited more than a very short time beyond my scheduled appointment and have been seen promptly when called back. The quality of dental work I have received has been excellent. Dr. Ding is my surgeon and he has always taken time to explain to me the procedure and what I could expect. Dr. Ernesto Carmona is my prosthodontist and he and Dr. Ding worked very closely to insure that I got the best possible results from the implant surgery. In fact, Dr. Ding asked Dr. Carmona to be present at all of my surgeries! In addition to the excellent quality of work, Dr. Ding and his staff were also sensitive to personal issues I was having at one point. They were very understanding and supportive. I highly recommend Dr. Ding and his staff. I have spent many hours in the dental chair during my life, and this office is, in my opinion, superior in every way! Dr. Ding is amazing!!! I had been having issues with eating & constant sharp shooting pain in my tooth that I previously had a root canal done on 3 times before finally I sought another primary dentist and was referred to Dr. Ding to have my tooth extracted. Needless to say I was nervous about having my tooth removed but after meeting Dr Ding I felt so comfortable. He took the time to talk to me, listen & show me on my X-rays how bad my tooth actually was & it frightened me to know I had been living with this pain for so long all because my tooth was cracked. Fast forward a couple of months I had my tooth removed a little over a month ago & I feel amazing! No pain & the procedure itself was so easy. Dr Ding came in & asked me how I was feeling than gave me my IV, all I remember was looking at the ceiling & bam woke up to his nurse telling me my procedure was complete. What really amazed me was that when I went home & woke up from my nap I had a voicemail from Dr Ding himself checking on me! Remind you this is less than 8 hours after having my tooth removed!!! After having some initial communication issues especially with staff my problem is being resolved after hours by a personal call from the surgeon himself. Our dentist referred us to AOS to have my wife's wisdom tooth removed. We don't have dental insurance but use a dental discount program instead. The charge for removing the tooth was reasonable, I thought, and once I settled the bill, we were taken in to see Dr. Kneel. After a quick but thorough Q&A, she went in to another room to have the procedure done while I waited in the waiting area. After about an hour, I was escorted to the recovery area to be with my wife who was coming out from under anesthesia. Everything went well, she felt no pain during the procedure, and had to take very little medicine for pain afterward. The doctor called my wife later in the day to see how she was doing. We appreciated that. We stopped by for a quick follow-up visit the next week and everything was OK. Overall, we had a really good experience. read more

after 2 hours hours sitting in the office they tell me that they can't do my because I don't have 500 for anesthesia out of pocket. we asked if they would work a payment plan to have my severely broken tooth taken out. Great experience from the very first phone call through to our last follow up. I called several offices including those I was referred to by my dentist without success for various reasons such as insurance, scheduling, etc. Stephanie Caballero answered the phone at Dr. Ding's office and she was extremely pleasant and helpful. She answered all of my questions and set my son up for a consultation. She is the voice you hope to hear when you call a doctor's office. Dr. Ding is an excellent doctor. He is knowledgeable, very easy to talk to, and made the whole experience a breeze. Great doctor! I couldn't be more pleased. Finally, I want to acknowledge nurse Jamie! I called the office about five days post extraction because my son was reporting a headache and ear pain. Nurse Jamie proceeded through a series of questions, patiently listened to all of my answers and concerns, and put me at ease immediately with her knowledge and comforting/understanding voice. We were seen in the office a few hours later. If you need an oral surgeon. You will not go wrong with Dr. Ding and his staff. So glad I found this office. My experience was great. I have been suffering from impacted wisdom teeth for 10 years and I have seen 4 doctors before but I never felt confident to go ahead with surgery. Dr Knell said it is a simple extraction which I did not hear from any other doctor I have seen before. I suffered for 10 years with on going infections and I am glad I got it done at Austin Oral M Surgery . The staff was wonderful. I had surgery Friday and went to work on Monday. Love, Love, Love these people. I was referred here by my awesome dentist. They made me feel welcome and well taken care of. I had to get 4 wisdom teeth removed and saying I was TERRIFIED is an understatement. I've never had surgery before. Everything was explained to me and I was allowed to ask as many questions as needed. This put me at ease, and I cannot explain how much that means. Things went pretty quick, as I'm sure they are super busy on Fridays and especially in the summer. But, that worked in my favor as I wasn't left to sit and think about how terrified I was. I was in and out in less than an hour. The staff were so friendly and funny. Considering how much anxiety I had all week and this morning going in, I was SOOOO relieved by how easy they all made this for me.
