My husband and I were looking for a local company to helps us change some 30 year old metallic blinds and a broken wood shutter. I went to 3 other places apart from Austin Window Fashions to get estimates, but I didn't have a good experience in any of these stores. The sales people weren't knowledgable about the products they sold and I wasn't getting anywhere. I decided to try Austin Window Fashions when I saw all the great reviews and it was an amazing experience from the moment I walked in the store the first time. Leslie Plas was such a pleasure to work with. I explained what I wanted and she immediately gave me alternatives in various different price points that matched exactly what I was looking for. When she visited my home to measure the windows, she gave me more suggestions based on the orientation and size of my windows and we ended up changing a few things last minute that made a huge difference. Up until this point I had had a really good experience with Leslie and Austin Windows Fashions, but what happened afterwards really made my experience an exceptional one. We had ordered valances to go with the new Hunter Douglas roller shades that we purchased to substitute the metallic shades. When the valances arrived, my husband and I were not happy with them. They didn't look as high quality as the roller shades themselves. I immediately contacted Leslie and her response was amazing. She scheduled a visit to my home with the Hunter Douglas representative and went to see for themselves what the problem was. She told me not to worry and that she would make sure that they would work with us until we were 100% satisfied. She ended up ordering a new style of valance for all my windows (which were many) and they look amazing. It's exactly what we wanted. The most amazing part to me is that it was all done at no additional cost to my husband and I. The level of commitment of Leslie and Austin Windows Fashions to make sure that we were happy really surprised me. it's not common to find this level of service. I wouldn't go anywhere else if I need to change other windows treatments in my home. Leslie and Amy were proactive in contacting me through this process and making sure I knew what was going on. Since we had to wait for the new valances to start production and then to have them shipped to our home, it took some time to get the final product installed (about 2 months total) but when they did we were extremely happy. We passively looked for custom wood plantation shutters for our home for several years and after scouring Yelp reviews we decided to check out a few businesses. Let me just say that my husband and I are very picky buyers and we not only look for quality but also value. We are not easily sold on things and had already done a lot of research online. We first spoke with Leslie Plas at Austin Window Fashion. She was like a breath of fresh air who knew exactly what we were looking for. She not only showed us a myriad of options but explained the differences expertly so we could make a truly informed decision. She was informative and patient with us and our millions of questions and even gave us a tour of the facility where the shutters are painted to show us some current projects they were working on. We had a custom job including a door shutter and 2 tall windows with arches at the top which would be a focal point in our home so it was imperative that we get this right. We had a hard date that we needed them by as we were having a party in 4 weeks that she assured us she could meet. We then visited a few other business and what a difference in the showroom, knowledge and overall attention to detail or lack thereof. The products were definitely inferior, had longer lead times (6-8 weeks) and were not even more competitively priced. It was clear that I had spoken with an industry professional first and then just visited "shops" afterwards. The custom wood plantation shutters we ordered arrived 4 days early and were installed by Ray who has been installing shutters and window treatments for over a decade. He was very pleasant as he multitasked efficiently installing our shutters while giving us great tips on maintaining them in the best shape for years to come. Leslie was kind and attentive as soon as we walked in, and really impressed us with her knowledge of options for blinds. Quality blinds are truly a whole world unto themselves, as strange as it may sound, and we were pleasantly surprised to get such an interesting education on the topic! We even had a little tour of the space in back where all of the blinds orders are made. It felt (and feels) good to support a small business, from the front of the house to the back of the house. My husband and I just bought our first home, and we wanted to treat ourselves to "nice" solid wood blinds, having been used to the cheapie variety you get in rental properties. We were walked through all of the available options, and Leslie made great recommendations based on the existing windows in our home. She went above and beyond, looking up our home on the MLS to count our windows, which gave us the most accurate estimate possible. Leslie provided a realistic timeline for the completion of the project, as each customer's blinds are made to order (!). She even scored us temporary blinds to cover our windows, which was great, since it allowed us to move in worry-free ahead of the completion of our order. Now that the real blinds are installed, they look amazing! We have a lifetime warranty on a beautiful accent to our house. I forget the exact style we chose, but they have extremely wide slats. They can completely black out a room, or let almost as much light in as if the window were completely uncovered. I'm told I need to give a shout out to Jason, who installed our blinds. Jason was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, showed up on time, and made quite an impression on my husband. He was really impressed with Jason's knowledge of his trade. Working with Austin Window Fashions was an incredibly smooth experience. I first interacted them when I stopped by the showroom. Mary made great suggestions about what type of window coverings would work best for our window types, measurements, and home style. She then followed up with an in-home visit to look at samples and select colors and finishes and get precise measurements. She had great suggestions and we quickly decided on selections that I've been very pleased with. A few weeks later, the window coverings arrived and were installed by their team. I'm extremely detail oriented and need everything to be exactly level and even. I had not a single bone to pick with the installation, everything was perfect. I was also very happy with the Hunter Douglas product. I had priced out similar styles from online vendors and ordered samples - but found that Hunter Douglas was able to provide more options for my very large windows (over 7' wide) than any online discount retailer. On top of that, the cheaper hex/honeycomb shades LOOKED much cheaper. They looked and felt like paper, whereas the HD product look like crisp, high end fabric. On the cheaper blackout shades, you could see the metallic lining from the sides - but not on the HD ones. The HD shades also operate very smoothly, despite being a very heavy shade. They feel like they will hold up well. All around, worth the premium that they charge. If I was renting, I may consider the cheaper online options, but for a home that we own and will be in long term, Hunter Douglas was worth the investment. Austin Window Fashions had a great deal running when we purchased, and seem to run regular specials on things like add on features and installation. Overall, I feel like the price I paid was very fair for the product and service I received. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. read more

Before I saw the estimate, I knew that I would choose Austin Window Fashions because Leslie Plas clearly knew her way around plantation shutters. Before she even spoke to me about their services, she gave me an education about the shutters and what I should be looking for in good quality production. I thrive on direct conversation and delivery of facts - Leslie had both covered. I enjoyed her candid style that made decision making very easy. The quality of AWF shutters far exceeded that of the other retailers that I had reviewed. To my surprise, though, the price was better AND the manufacturing time was shorter as well! I recently redecorated my master bedroom and wanted new window treatments for a large window and door. Kindal came out to my house, took measurements and gave me a quote on the Hunter Douglas Silhouettes, which is the product I had requested. Unfortunately they were out of my budget so I asked Kindal if there was a less expensive option and she mentioned the Hunter Douglass Nantucket. The products are very similar with the only difference that I could see being the fabrics, and the price for the Nantucket was within my budget. Kindal was able to pick a similar colour, take my deposit and get my window treatments ordered ASAP. 2 weeks later Austin Window Fashions called to schedule my installation. The installer was timely, nice, knowledgeable and fast. He even took his shoes off before entering my house. I would definitely recommend working with these people. For comparison I also got a quote from 3 Day Blinds. Their price on both the comparable 3 Day Blind product and the Hunter Douglas Product was significantly higher. When I mentioned that I had a much lower quote, the lady started coming down in her price and offered me a 'discounted price' BUT she wanted me to make a decision and provide a deposit that very day in order to honor the discount. My husband and I stopped in at Austin Window Fashions on a whim after an online search showed great reviews. We were interested in shutters for our new home, but knew very little about how or where to start, so we just wanted to "look around" to get an idea of the process. We were immediately greeted by Leslie Plas, and after a visit to the wonderful world of window coverings with her, our "just looking" visit became a "thank goodness we found you" visit! She took the time to show us options and really explain the quality of the shutters AWF produces. We knew we wanted shutters, but after our shutters 101 lesson with Leslie, we really narrowed down color, louver thickness (I throw that word out now, but truly before this I had no idea what a louver even was), tilt lever placement, split tilt options to allow for adjustment of light coming in, and so on. Kathy Wallace is a pro. We are currently building a new home in Avana and wanted to have plantation shutters installed. I saw an ad in one of those coupon magazines for 1/2 off installation and decided to give them a call. Kathy answered the phone and we discussed pricing with the information I had received from the Standard Pacific Design Center. As soon as I had sent her the document with the windows and approximate window measurements, she came back with an estimate. It was 25% less than the builder so I decided this was the route to take. My husband and I drove out to their location on Burnet Road and spoke with another sales person who knew from the beginning that we were working with Kathy and she was still helpful. (That says a lot about the company and their values.) As soon as Kathy could fit us in her schedule to drive to Avana and take measurements we were doing business. I took a friend to see the house and Kathy was so unassuming yet personable. What could have annoyed her that I was showing my house and talking to her about shutters at the same time was just taken in stride. Kathy also gave me insight to potential decorating issues. That's really helpful especially in such a large open area as the new house presents. I am really glad Kathy answered the phone and we got to do business with such a professional. I highly recommend Austin Window Fashions. This company was a referral from our realtor, and after reading reviews I looked no further. I cannot speak to pricing due to the fact I never consulted with another Austin company, but as far as quality and service go......this group is exceptional. Robin was our sales rep and a true professional. She is so knowledgeable, yet listens to every preference and concern of the customer. I originally thought I wanted a roller shade and she very thoroughly went into the reasons why this option was not ideal for my home. I ultimately decided on the duet shades in a beautiful gray color and could not be more pleased. I was bored to pieces after having shutters for 15 years in my previous home and wanted to try a whole new look in my brand new home. I just love the duets and see why they are in such high demand, especially in Austin. We wanted to keep our great views, while providing a filter for light during certain times of the day. I'm very happy with Tara from Austin Windows Fashion. I called AWF from out of state to install two new blinds for my unit, so I had no expectations on how the call will ends. I was connected to Tara, whom patiently guided me on product selections for a large window and a door. She asked questions about the purpose of the blinds, where the windows located, what are the colors of the surrounding walls; all of which allowed her to provide recommendations on which product to choose. I was very impressed with Tara's professionalism by how she communicated the potential result from the blind installation. After the initial window measurement, she found out that my window was a bit larger than the maximum blind size so she made sure that I am aware there would be a bit of gap between the window sill and the blind (0.3" on each side). It was a small gap which I thought not a big deal, but Tara made sure that this was communicated verbally and in writing (via the invoice). I appreciate the honesty prior to paying for the blinds. Understanding that it was only a small gap, I went with the transaction. The entire transaction was done while I was out of state. I also had a great experience during the blinds installation. The installer came and he was very kind and respectful of my space. All in all, it was a great experience working with Austin Windows Fashion. I highly recommend it! read more

My wife and I purchased a new construction home in Driftwood and had Tara from Austin Window Fashions out to consult on the possibility of adding plantation shutters throughout. Tara was great to work with, on-time to scheduled appointments, responsive over email, knowledgeable about her product, and very detail-oriented in her measurements. Additionally, she invited us out to their facility where the end-products are prepped / painted and made ready for installation....the operation looked smooth and very professional. We found the pricing to be very competitive (we solicited 3 different quotes from local companies). After we elected to go with Austin Window Fashions and put our deposit down, we continued to receive excellent service from the entire team. Tara made a special trip down to our house to double check some measurements, they were able to paint match our existing trim and sent us a sample for confirmation...and if that wasn't enough, we received a call to schedule our install only 2 weeks after we had put our deposit down (other companies were quoting 8-12 weeks!). The install went smooth, everything looks great....the installer worked fast and professionally, and was very friendly (even as my 4 year old followed him around the house asking a million questions). Highlights: professional customer service, warranty on products, quality of products Meredith, Myra, and Tara all did excellent jobs as we searched for window treatments for 35+ windows for our home. We worked mostly with Meredith. She came to our home, spent 1.5 hours going over options and taking measurements. She offered a quote for a particular style of window treatment. We flat out said no way (for the price, it was not the right fit for us). Meredith politely offered other options. We took a break from searching as my wife and I could not agree on style. About 1 month later, we went back to Meredith and told her we wanted shutters. She politely offered a quote, and we bought them. They are awesome. They work well. Throughout the entire process, Meredith seemed very focused on getting us the right window treatments for us, even when it appeared we might not be buying from AWF. Never did we sense frustration from her. That was awesome. After 1 month, one louver broke (out of several hundred louvers, I'm okay with that). I called AWF. They requested a photo. I sent it. They came and picked it up and returned a couple weeks later to reinstall it. No hassle. No cost. Freaking awesome job standing behind their product and warranty. I would use them again. My family and I just bought a new home. My Mother moved in with us and she said that we have to put in plantation shutters. My husband and I purchased a home in November 2015, and much to our dismay, it came with not a single set of operable blinds. My wife and I are retired, so we try to avoid shopping on weekends; however, one Saturday in November, we agreed we were fed up with the broken cord on our bedroom window shade. A quick on-line search led me to Austin Window Fashions, open on Saturday. Off we went, north on Burnet Road. Tucked at the back of a business strip, we found the shop. Immediately on entering we were greeted by Leslie Plas. She asked us what we were looking for, and we replied two of our shades needed replacing. We decided to outfit our condo with plantation shutters while in the middle of a large reconstruction project following a flooded pipe. Our consultant was Meredith Dwyer, and despite having to work around contractors, etc. she was friendly, accommodating, and very helpful. She came with shutters and pictures of many completed looks. Her knowledgeable command about their product and shutters in general impressed us so much that we decided to go with Austin Window Fashions, despite the quote being slightly higher than other quotes received. We were also struck by the fact that the shutters are constructed locally by the company, and not sent out. Finally, she also helped us plan our custom "shutter-type" doors for a console built/in wall cabinet that we wanted to cover, but keep the shutter louvres open for air flow and remote control access. It was a great effect. After less than 4 weeks, the shutters arrived and were installed by Chris who was quick, professional, and friendly. He was very attentive to our home and shutters, cleaned up after himself, and made sure we fully understood operation of the new shutters before he left. I could not be happier with our blinds and shades from Austin Window Fashions! Easy, smooth experience! Working with Tara was the BEST! My husband and I recently built a new house and needed to have blinds and shades installed on 23 windows shortly after closing. I was able to schedule an appointment for a quote a few weeks prior. When Tara came out she was incredibly friendly and professional. She took accurate measurements and made helpful suggestions regarding materials and fabrics. Her selection of fabrics for the shades was great! I found two that work perfectly for us! Over the next week or so, Tara was very patient and provided a few different quotes based on follow up questions that we had. Some friends had given me a gift certificate to AWF - probably because I am horrible at making these kinds of decisions. After having my friends over to help me pick paint colors, I think this was their way of telling me I needed help. I worked with Leslie and she was wonderful. She knew right away that I was someone who needed to see all my options before making a decision -- and she spared me from having to do so when it came time to pick out my new blinds. She really tried to get me to pick a style that would save me money - but I have expensive taste. Leslie even told me how I could save money by getting my blinds ultrasonic cleaned -- she even knew a vendors name and phone number by heart. Leslie's measurements were dead on. The installer was very professional and cleaned up after himself. There was a problem with one blind -- the chord was on the wrong side. True telling of a vendor, in my opinion, is how a problem is handled. The blind got fixed and another installer came out to finish the job and ensure I was satisfied. Highly recommend AWF. Hunter Douglas is expensive, but worth it because of durability and ability to clean ultrasonically. Love, love, love my blackout shades! read more
