I got my car smogged here and loved the experience. The men who worked here are honest and explained everything they were going to do and got my approval for all the services they supplied. They were polite and friendly. They topped off my oil and even gave me a cup of water for my dog. They have an air conditioned office and a little patio with chairs outside. I have a 2004 Tahoe and Mustang and came to this shop approximately 6 years ago for the first time after finding a coupon for smog check. I have always pulled up and my car inspected immediately. My Mustang was due for a smog check so I decided to go against the COVID-19 rules and get my car done. I got there after 2 pm and to my surprise there were at least 5 people waiting in the outside patio. I went inside and was told it would be over an hour if I wanted to wait for it. I own a 2004 Acura MDX with ~145K miles. I'm the original owner. I have loved this car. My daughter just got her driver's license and she needed a car. So, while we were practicing when she only had her permit, I was in the process of fixing this car up for her. It has treated me well, and I take good care of it, but there comes a time in the life of every car, when the cost of repairs can easily add up to more than KBB will tell you car is worth (even when you know the car has plenty of life left). Finding Auto Check Center, turned out to be a God-send for me. Mohammad saved me thousands across the multiple repairs that I needed to have done, compared to dealer pricing. His mechanics proved to be highly talented and did excellent work as well. I had them practically replace the entire suspension (front and rear shocks and struts, stops, bushings, front control arms with linkages). They did a transmission fluid flush and troubleshot what looked to be an oil leak. It turned out to not be a leak and they were honest about it and didn't try and trick me into some crazy expensive repair. They found a problem with an axle replacement I had done before I came to them and were very encouraging to take it back to get it repaired under warranty. During this whole process, I even had to go back to the dealer and have them re-do a rack and pinion repair that failed 3 times! Auto-Check Center notified me when they found it was leaking again. Again, they were encouraging to get it repaired under warranty. I had them do front and rear brakes, pads and rotors, including a brake fluid flush. I gave them tires I bought online at the same time and Mohammad worked with his neighbor repair facilities to give me a better price on the install and the alignment than I could have gotten myself elsewhere (his cost), plus he managed the whole thing for me. On each and every repair, I compared to dealer pricing and for this I know I saved a ton of money. As I started to become a regular customer, Mohammad even gave me better pricing than he previously quoted me, kind of like a volume discount, showing his appreciation that I was bringing all this work to him. The dealer was often more than 2X the cost. His prices are just amazing and the whole car is in such better shape and drives solid. Through the many repairs that I had done, I really walked away with a strong sense that they are honest, do great work, and they really care about customer satisfaction and saving the customer money. I have been going to Auto Check for 6 years now. They are the best and MOST HONEST auto repair shop! They changed my alternator a few years ago and it's still working. I've had my car's oil changed here, tires changed here and smog checked here too (they are star certified). They NEVER try to up sell me on unnecessary services. For example, my car's "check coolant" light came on and I was going in for a smog check anyway. So I told Mansur (super nice and super friendly manager) about the coolant level and he had the mechanic check it out. Turned out my coolant level was just a tad low. So Mansur had the mechanic add a little coolant and off I went. They could have VERY EASILY told me that I needed to do the whole coolant draining and refill service ($150) but they didn't because they're honest. I was chatting with another customer there and he's been going to Auto Check since the 80s when they were at their first location in El Toro. That's really saying something about Auto Check. They are very honest and good at what they do. I highly recommend them! And they always have fresh free coffee for customers which is always a bonus! So if you're looking for an honest auto repair shop, give Auto Check a try. read more

I had a $18.75 smog check coupon mailed to me from Auto Check Center right around the time I needed to get my car smogged, so I decided to give this place a try. I walked in the door and told the young guy behind the counter I wanted to get a smog check. The first words out of his mouth were "It will be an hour and a half or two hours". There were two other people sitting in the lobby and a car on the block already getting smogged. I then let him know that I had a turbo diesel car, and that the new inspection laws for diesel don't take as long as for regular gas vehicles. He said that since that since it was a diesel it would cost $69.99 + $8.25 certificate, and that the smog check takes "much longer". The coupon said that it was not valid for trucks and SUVs and said nothing about diesel cars. I have a Volks Jetta which is about the furthest thing from a truck or an SUV. So I crumbled up the coupon and threw it in the trash and walked out the door. I went over to the Shell station on Trabuco Canyon Rd, near Culver and saw Walter, who had me in and out of there in about 8 minutes! He confirmed that the diesel inspection does not take nearly as long as the gas inspection. Be careful of the fine print at Auto Check Center, and prepare for horrible service from the front desk. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE! I was looking for a place to get a smog check and came across this place because they had a coupon for $19.75. I had called them to make sure I could still use the coupon and asked if I needed to make an appointment. The person who I spoke to said they still accepted the coupon and that I did not need to make an appointment. I asked what time they close on Fridays and he said 6 pm. With that being said, I went in on Friday at 5:30 pm. Right when I walked in, a sales guy named Mohammad who might have been the owner asked what I needed. I said I just needed a smog check. He was really rude and said that would not be possible because they close at 6 pm. I told him I had called in and was told I didn't need to make an appointment. He was really insistent that there would be no way they could give me a smog check. He was blunt, rude, and plain irrational. He kept telling me there were others there also waiting to get a smog check done and that they had been waiting for awhile. I told him that is fine I can wait, but I just need to get a smog check done today. By that time I was already so fed up, and was getting pretty mad. I told him that they close at 6 pm and that I am there before they even close! He totally crossed the line when he replied, "This is not like going into a store and buying something!" He then handed me his business card and said to come in the next day. I asked him what time they open and he said 8 am, but he told me to not come in during the morning. By that time I was dumbfounded...WTF!?!?!? So I asked why not and he said, "We're busy in the mornings. Call us and we'll tell you if you can come in or not." In my head I was like WTF is wrong with you!?!?!? So I totally got mad and was like, "Ok, so you don't take appointments and now I have to call YOU to see if it's ok to take my car in?! How long do smog checks take anyways?!" He said, "20 minutes for a smog check." OK, so he couldn't even take 20 min to look at my car...SERIOUSLY, I wanted to slap him. Mohammad could tell I was getting mad, so he said he would check with his workers to see if they would be willing to do a smog check, and at the end they gave me a smog check. And guess what, they finished by 6:15 pm! This was a horrible experience and I honestly went because it was so cheap. But I will never ever go there again! read more

Cost of a smog check is 19.75 (with a coupon) + 8.25 to send to DMV this place had the best rate in my area. They don't do appointments so it's first come first serve. I put my name in and came back a few hours later. The test took about 30 minutes. I failed because my check engine light was on. They charged me the 19.75 and I was told to come back later for them to diagnose the problem and the re-test would be free. To save money on the diagnosis and repair, I took care of the problem myself and went back for a re-test. It was going to cost me 19.75 again since they didn't fix the issue so the re-test wouldn't be free. It was my fault that for not knowing the check engine light is an automatic fail but I feel kinda ripped off because they shouldn't have even started the test knowing that the check engine light is an auto fail. I guess they took my 19.75 this time but they lost me as a return customer. I was going to recommend them to others but I feel that they're unethical and after reading some other reviews, I rather pay a little more so that something like this doesn't happen again. read more

First time I went my car was too low. Was having conversations w/ the tech and some mechanics and the guy from behind the desk was rudely telling me to leave. Second time, raised my car to clear the dyno. Younger guy who manages the place said that my car will fail smog. I have a k&n typhoon w/ carb sticker. Says carb sticker is not for my engine. He has a print out saying it excludes my engine. He never ran my car on dyno and told me it'll fail. Tells me again to leave and like right now. Went home and called k&n. K&N said its the right carb sticker and should be no problems w/ smog. I called the shop to tell em what k&n said. Tech told me they need to do more research and to call the next morning. Wtf. Only went to this place coz of thier coupon. Save me some $$s. Went back to my old place w/c is super smog. Got my car on the dyno, passed smog in 3 minutes. Different print out saying my sri and engine match. Don't waste your time w/ these guys. read more

i had these folks do a smog check today, lured by a Pennysaver coupon and the fact that they're relatively near my home. As per the instructions on their web site, I got the car nice and warm by driving for a few minutes prior to pulling into the shop. They didn't laugh at me TOO badly when it turned out I had brought the wrong car! I went home and repeated the process. There was only one car ahead of me; I was driving home within 40 minutes or so. They were pleasant enough folks, didn't try to upsell me on any additional work, and all in all it was an uneventful experience. read more

This place in a money hungry operation that is shamelessly unethical with poor service. I took my car there for a smog check yesterday. The car failed because the check engine light was on. Yes, I should have known this would be a problem but I don't count myself as the most car savvy person. The technician who started the car and drove it into the testing bay clearly saw the check engine light was on. He KNEW the car will FAIL but instead of telling me, he went ahead with the whole smog check anyways! I was then told if they do the repairs, the re-inspection would be free. Of-course they would first charge me $49 to run a diagnostic test. At that point I was not about to trust them with anything! I took my car to V-Tech auto in the same complex. They lifted my car to take a quick look. Saw nothing wrong and reset the sensors. All FREE of charge. They asked me to drive the car for 50 miles. If the light stays off then it's just a sensor being tripped due to unusual vibrations while driving. (I did go through a dip in the road last week when the light came on) Lights stayed off and now I will find another place for a smog check. NEVER will I go back to Auto Check Center again! I'll pay double their price any day for a service I can trust from people with high ethical standards. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Horrible customer service! Was stated that they would use "new" parts but actually used "remanufactured" parts. I came here to get a starter replaced and thought I was getting a good deal becuase the place across the street quoted $30 more. Everything was great until 3 weeks later when my starter failed again and was stranded in Fullerton at 3AM! Got a ride home from a friend and left my car in a parking lot (thankfully didnt get towed overnight). Got a ride there the next day and called AAA to get my car sent back to this place. When I got back to this place the manager gave me attitude, was extremely disrespectful and did not applogize for lying about installing a remanufactured part instead of a new one or for my severe inconvience. Pros: -Saved $30 Cons: -Had to pay an additional $135 tow fee even with AAA -Received attitude, disrespect and horrible customer service -Recieved FAULTY remanufactured parts instead of new -Stranded in Fullerton at 3AM because of THEIR faulty starter -Ruined my day off by dealing with towing my car back and being carless -Had to borrow a car for work the next day (luckly i was able to do so) They have definelty lost my business as well as my friends and family. read more
