If you read the reviews it's clear that this is NOT where you want to bring your vehicle. Unfortunately being newer to the area and in a tight bind, led me to bring in my car that wouldn't start. A local told me about this shop close to their home, however their only experience was with an oil change and when it had different management which I didn't find out till after it was too late. I have to say that everything about this shop was unprofessional. My vehicle was in their possession for over a week after the check engine light came on, overheating alert, and the vehicle wouldn't start. They were baffled as to what was wrong. They tried replacing a plastic part and kept me updated up to that point saying they were unable to pinpoint the issue. Finally they called to tell me they CHOSE to change out the starter and attempted to charge me $1,100- this was done without my authorization and without providing me with a quote or options for a starter. When I complained about being blindsided by this I was given this condescending response, "well you wanted your car to run didn't you? I mean we can take it back out and give you back a car that isn't running...". I felt manipulated into going along with he work they had done. After pity from the actual owner, they called me back to offer a discount and they charged me $500. I reluctantly paid for and picked up my car and of course within a couple of days the EXACT same issues occurred and the car wouldn't start. Ultimately, the issue was a frozen engine and I had to take it to another shop to get the full scope, details other finding of the vehicle that Auto Max couldn't figure out over the course of 2 weeks. Later when I called Eric the manager to discuss the matter, he immediately became defensive raising his voice and told me that I wasted their time by bringing my car back to the shop after their attempt at putting in a starter didn't resolve the issue)?! So I guess bringing in a vehicle that is having mechanical issues is beyond their scope of practice and additionally you'll be wasting their time by doing so. I was later told by the local tow truck driver who took my vehicle to a more reputable shop in PV that AUTO MAX in PRESCOTT does TERRIBLE WORK and they've towed many cars from there only to bring them to other more reliable shops. Again, please don't fall into the trap I did! Please take your vehicle somewhere else if you want professional and trustworthy work performed. read more

Excellent service and prices! I bought a 2014 Challenger RT, and the previous owner had installed brakes meant for a V6 Challenger. They replaced the rotors, brake pads, and a brake pin all in the same day. They also offer good prices for oil changes and provide fantastic service. I highly recommend them 100%. I brought my car to Auto Max for spark plug and ignition coil replacement, expecting a simple repair. Instead, they dismantled my vehicle and fabricated costly issues to scam me. They claimed my brakes needed bleeding, there was oil on the manifold requiring a new gasket, and my perfectly working supercharger needed replacement with a $1,000 labor charge--none of which was true. Most shockingly, they removed my undercarriage shield and lied, saying they didn't touch it. The shield has 9 bolts, and 6 were missing; bolts don't vanish on their own. This dishonest behavior, coupled with their recent ownership change, suggests Auto Max is exploiting customers with fake repairs and shoddy work. Avoid this shop at all costs--take your car to a trustworthy mechanic who values integrity. I'll never return and urge others to steer clear. read more

Quick, honest service. No pressure, no upsale. The work and the price were excellent.

Took my 1976 MGB to have clutch work done. Only problem required a master cylinder. No other problem with the clutch. Then I was told my alternator was not charging and I needed a new battery which was 7 years old. Prior to this I had not had any problem with either but I had them replace them to the tune of 1500.00. 7 days after picking up my car, went out and the battery was dead. Sent back to Automax, week later was told I had wiring issues but all was fixed. Another 750.00 charge. The ignition switch light continues to stay on which could mean still having problem with the alternator. After all said and done, I have more problems with my car then what I sent it in to be serviced for in the first place. Do not allow these people to work on your car. I will be letting several of the classic car clubs which I belong to designate them as a service center to avoid. Gave a one star but deserve a zero. read more

Everyone at Automax goes out of their way to make sure our vehicles are safe to drive. Not being car a car person, I think it's nice that they explain what is going on and what they need to do, if anything. They could lie to me and say I need new brakes; however, they DON'T do that. They are honest and tell me approximately how much longer I have until they need to be replaced. I love the fact that Dan and the guys are "down to Earth" and don't make me feel intimidated when I go there. Definitely give Automax a try. You won't be sorry. read more

Ok this is the second time I have had to deal with this shop first he wanted quadruple what a job should cost and today my alternator and batteries took a dump on me right by his shop so I went over to ask him if he would test them and he said I need an appointment and that they charge.. I understand charging for it but should only be like 10 dollars but having to have an appointment is ridiculous it takes at max 5 min to test the alternator and I know this because I have 3 auto and big diesel repair shops in Texas that my family runs so I have grown up around small shops like this..... It is frustrating to me especially when I'm on foot and he tells me to walk to O'REILLY with a alternator and a batteries that weigh a lot. I am a petite female!!! Oh no! My 2008 Toyota was making a grinding/scraping noise...sometimes. Since we moved to Prescott just this January, we didn't personally know any auto repair shops. Yelp to the rescue and I couldn't be happier with the service at AutoMax! Dan certainly lived up to his reputation as honest and sincere. He diagnosed a bad caliper on one side and explained what/why and that I didn't need the other side for many more miles. How honest! He could have sold me both sides, I wouldn't have known, and I would have been out a lot of money, "before it's time". We will be going back to Auto Max and recommending Dan's shop whenever we can. I have a 93 Lincoln. It was "too old" for some shops. The problems were intermittent and elusive but Dan worked on it for several days, made two trip to U-Pick It for parts and fixed the car, They did not charge me for all the time trying to figure it or the trip for parts. I think they are great, definitely my "go to" shop from now on. read more

I was having rough idle issues with my 1999 Ford V-10. After taking it to another mechanic, a diagnostic identified an issue, however, it disappeared after the truck warmed. Auto Max was recommended to me by a customer. Dan and his technicians ran a diagnostic and replaced a faulty ignition coil. The repair was done on time, and well within my anticipated costs. I won't hesitate to take my vehicles to Auto Max and will enthusiastically recommend them to my friends. read more

Had about the same experience as Rodney N. in his review below. As I went into the office to see Dan about my car, he was in the middle of lecturing another customer because the small dog she was holding barked. I was embarrassed for her as he spoke in a very unprofessional, demeaning, and condescending manner to her. I had a coolant leak in my car and wanted him to find out what the problem was. He charged me $42. to tell me my car had a cracked surge tank, and I was fine with the charges. However, he wanted to install an after market replacement tank. I do not want after market parts on my car, so asked him about obtaining an original (OEM) part. He told me that the dealer wanted over $250. for the part. I offered to buy an OEM part online, and provide it to him to install. That's when he became rude, saying "he does not install other peoples parts". Having no other choice, I ordered the OEM part anyway for half the price he was quoting me with the intention of installing it myself, but got stuck, as I needed a special tool to remove other components to get to the tank. When I called Dan to see if he would install the part for me, he rudely refused basically leaving me hanging apparently because he couldn't include the mark-up for his owe profit using the same part from the local dealer. Fortunately for me, I called John of Arizona Automotive in Prescott Valley, where I had repair work done in the past. I explained the situation to John, and he said it wouldn't be any problem at all to install the new part, but with the caveat that he could not warranty the new part. John, like a friend when you need him, always willing to work with his customers vs. Dan, a greedy, and rude man who doesn't mind ripping-off his. I'll never go back to Auto Max again, and don't recommend this nasty tempered man to anyone else either. read more
