I have been a loyal Autoscandia patron for many years. The master technicians have serviced our 2000 9-5 Saab and 1998 V70R Volvo stationwagons so that they are still going strong at over 150K and 180K. There is a Parkway Division that has also worked on our high mileage Nissan Maxima and Ford Explorer as well. I took a quick visit to Autoscandia at the end of the workday recently to learn how to open the light compartment to access a rear light on the Saab. Louis took a break from working on another car to show me how to open the panel. He quickly noticed that I had purchased the wrong size bulb. Taking the car into the shop, he replaced the light and also replaced a brake light on the opposite side of the car. Louis removed and carefully replaced that plastic light fixture despite having a difficult time due to recent damage to the rear bumper. Before sending me on my way, he took the time to look at the passenger window that had stopped working . After deftly removing the door frame, he discovered the broken window rollers, which was the expected problem. He quickly replaced them, siliconed the window gasket and now it works like new. As the car started to leave the shop, he stopped it to examine a clacking noise that he heard in the engine. Upon inspection, he found that the engine oil was low and added over a quart to the before clearing me to leave. I am so appreciative that he caught this. Louis is a master mechanic who certainly knows his craft. This is just one example of the excellent automobile and customer service that I have received at Autoscandia. It is a busy shop that has earned my loyalty and highest recommendation to others due to their commitment to excellence. I always had high hopes being a customer with AutoScandia. I have been there a few times , based on another recommendation, and I thought that the courtesy, great shuttle service and the great work ethic of the staff there was the best. Now this happened recently and I have to caution customers that the "buyer beware" slogan must be issued here. On Thursday, February 2, 2017, I made a standard appointment for a synthetic oil change for my 2012 Totyota RAV4. I received a call later from Glenn, based on his technician, that my "rear brake pads were worn to 2/32 and the rotors were warped due to vibration felt when braking". BTW, this is all in writing on the invoice with the additional note: "Technician noted: RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING WORN AND NOISEY [sp.]" in caps. I paid for the synthetic oil change, $77.26, and told them that I would get a second estimate, which is my right. On Monday, February 13th of the same month, I made another appointment and left my same car at a very trusted auto repair firm that is further from my house so that their mechanics could inspect my car for said recommendations from AutoScandia. Their mechanic, and I have the invoice for this service, checked my front and rear brake pads. The technician wrote that I have "1/2 brake pad lining left" There wasn't any worn wheel bearing. The noise came from my new heavy tires. My charge for their this technician's inspection: 0, although I expected some small charge for their honesty. I had good intentions as I was trying to do some preventative maintenance by changing out the oxygen sensors on my BMW 325i. Got three out of four changed and the last POST-CAT sensor would not budge. I mangled it pretty good too. The team at Auto Scandia was absolutely great. This particular problem had some expensive potential consequences and as I started to ask detailed questions to weigh my options, Dan was extremely patient and helpful over the phone. He even let me talk to the master mechanic Bruce who very nicely explained in detail what his recommendations were and the risks involved. Most shops don't do this very well. Due to Bruce's expertise and determination he was able to get the sensor off preventing a $1700+ replacement cost of the catalytic converter. Their labor rates are fair and my past experience with them is that they don't gouge you with markup on parts. They will install parts you supply them without a fuss either. Drive by sometime and look at their shop too. It''s big and you can tell they've invested in it. You can trust these people to take of your car, answer your questions to your satisfaction, and walk out of there satisfied knowing you had a quality repair and were treated right. I called autoscandia after my check engine light came on as i was taking my daughter to daycare and a gentleman by the name of glen answered phone and i proceeded to tell him my situation and told him i had just got to the daycare. I was panicking and he told me first to take my daughter into daycare and he would hold until i came back on line which was about 5 to 6 minutes. After i got back on line he asked me had my check engine light been on for a while and i told him no. He then asked if the vehicle was running ok or rough and i said it was running fine. He then asked me had i recently put gas in my car and i replied yes on the way to daycare. He then instructed me to check gas cap and make sure it was properly on and to my surprise it was not even on and he informed me to tighten cap until it clicked at least three times. Told me to go head and go to work and it should reset itself after driving to work. Got to work and called back and told glen light was still on. He informed to let it set and when i went to lunch it should have reset by then. Lo and behold drove my car to lunch and to DC for a meeting and light did not come back on. After 18 years of doing business with Autoscandia I recently returned after moving to a new location and learned that they were still providing the best service of any automobile care center in a 100 mile radius. I will reestablish myself as a faithful customer without the concern for the drive. The visit is well worth the service I receives there. Since they are thorough and proven, I don't believe there will be a need to be visiting often after I get my vehicles all up to date with the scheduled and periodic services due. Upon returning this past weekend I learned that they have expanded their business to include Volkswagen and BMW. I will be bringing my BMW in based on the work we have received on our 1991 Saab after it was purchased from International Motors brand new in 1990. It is still operating just fine after almost 200,000 miles. Since Saabs are no longer being manufactured it will be difficult to get the maintenance support, parts, and knowledge required to do the work from any place else with any type of a proven track record as Autoscandia. I am very happy about my decision to make them my one stop shop for half of my vehicle fleet! read more

Just wanted to tell how wonderful and competent the staff is at Autoscandia! I thought I had an expensive issue with my 5-series BMW and they immediately diagnosed the problem and told me the correct solution which was exponentially cheaper than what I thought it would take to fix the problem. These guys are truly stand up fellows! Also, they really take the time to explain what all the issues and relevant fixes are... They are the best people I have dealt with all week... I've been coming to these folks for years now with my various Volvo models and my family's, and they've always done a great job, been very forthcoming & honest, complete with top-tier recommendations, but this most recent bit of working with them definitely deserves a shoutout. Just days before I had to make a move (driving 1400+ miles away), before the Labor Day weekend, something went wrong with my cooling fan and the control module. Gene & his team were fantastic-- when it came to advising, diagnosing coordinating finding last-minute parts, and understanding my concerns and urgency, Gene really did a great job of getting everything together. Not only did he so courteously pony a part my car needed to the shop over the course of the long weekend (!!?) but they had it done and repaired for me first thing in the morning when everyone came back in! I took my 2006 mini cooper in for radiator leak and ck engine light; leak was fixed as planned; the tech noted that the light indicated an exhaust leak, he visually confirmed a crack in exhaust manifold, and suggested that I take it to the dealer for warranty work; I was skeptical b/c the car is older and 45K miles; I did take it to the dealer; they initially said its not likely to be covered (normal is 5 yr coverage); I called Autoscandia and they explained there is an 8 year 80k mile warranty on all exhaust parts (Federal law); I brought this up at the dealer and they fixed it all for free; not many shops will help you get warranty work when its covered ! I stopped by Autoscandia to thank them and offered money to buy the techs pizza to show appreciation for honesty; the owner refused, he was happy it worked out and asked me to tell others about their good work and reputation for honesty. I would recommend this shop to anyone wary of crooked repair shops. read more

I took my car (BMW 550) to the dealer because I needed to replace the battery. I also had a leak that had caused my car to get flooded inside behind the passenger seat and trunk. After I paid a lot of money for a battery and a diagnosis of the leak the dealer wanted big bucks to fix the leak. Fortunately, I said no. That's when I did some research and found Autoscandia. What a great place! They were able to fix my leak issue (which wasn't even in the place the dealer said it was), changed my oil, provided break service, and replaced my windshield wipers for less than half my original estimate from the dealer to fix only the leak. The staff there was wonderful and their customer service skills are outstanding. I also noticed that the bay area is very clean and not over crowded with stuff. Dan helped me and kept me up to date on everything that needed to be done on my car. I will definitely return there when I need any work done on my car. read more

I needed to replace my brakes and rotors. I had two quotes that were outrageous. I went to Autoscandia and the quote was alot less expensive. I explained that I would have the repairs done there but I would have to wait a couple weeks because it was an expensive repair. The owner Mark Bredesen was in the office at the time and offered me another solution. If I could do the repair myself, he would order the parts for me and save me the labor cost. The only problem was I did not have the tools to complete the repair. The owner was so generous he offered me the use of not just his tools but also his parking lot to complete the repair. Which was a good thing because when I ran into a problem the technicians offered me guidance to resolve it. It is very rare that a company values its customers more then their bottom line. I can't thank Autoscandia enough for their excellent service! After declining to have my starter replaced at the dealership due to the high cost, I decided to research other options. Well, my starter failed shortly after returning home from the dealership, so I had to make a quick decision! My boyfriend brings his Volvo here for repairs and he has always had great things to say. I called and asked for an estimate, and they said they could take my car the same day. I had my car towed here and the work was completed within a few hours of receiving my car. I am so happy that I brought it here, I will definitely be back in the future! Thank you again! Forgot to add - all of this happened on the day we leaving for vacation. I know very little about cars and find it difficult to always trust the diagnosis of repairs etc. I have a BMW and have used Autoscandia for the last 5+ years, beginning after the dealer warranty expired. I have found Autoscandia to be very knowledgeable about the vehicle and Dan, the BMW Service Manager, always provides a full explanation that I can understand about the repair needed. The repairs are reasonably priced for BMW and Scottie always goes above and beyond with the repair to ensure it is done correctly and thoroughly. Autoscandia is also very accommodating when I have as simple of a need as a headlight bulb replacement or an inspection. I can stop by or call a day ahead and they are always able to accommodate me. I've used these guys over the years for SAABs and Volvos. They have a superb Volvo guy whom I trust highly today with my 245. These guys repair cars, they don't simply replace parts. Courteous, detail-oriented, smart front desk. The Volvo mechanic, Paul, enjoys talking with customers, I think. I would recommend this shop to anyone with a Volvo or SAAB. I don't understand the negative comments on pricing. It's much more expensive to have a crappy job done on your car than to pay a fair price for professional work. Much more expensive. I fly airplanes and also own a 911 and a Ford Diesel, and there is no reason a good car won't last 20 years or more. We fly planes, routinely, 50 years. I recently got off of work to find that my car would not start. I had it jumped but it was after 6:00 and I tried to call auto scandia hoping to get someone on the phone because I was worried that once the car turned off it would not start again. The owner Mark answered the phone and told me to come right over. Most of the technicians were gone for the day but diagnosed and changed my BMW car battery himself that evening. This went way beyond my expectations! I can not say how good it feels to know that my go to repair company is willing to help even after hours. I have been a loyal Audi dealership customer for at least 15 years. I have no clue why...they were horrible at customer service and as soon as I would leave the dealership something else was wrong with my car. My buddy referred me to AutoScandia.
