I've been taking my 1991 Dodge minivan to Autoscandia four times since 2003. Since it is an older car, parts wear out, and the mechanics have spotted needed repairs that have kept me on the road. One time, they found the timing belt needed replacing before it broke. Last May, 2011, I took it in because my battery was low and brakes soft. Instead of a new battery, they replaced the negative terminal. They found road salt had rusted the brake lines, and wheel cylinders needed replacement. Also, both transmission and motor mounts had to be replaced, along with aging hoses, fuel filter and fuel lines. Thanks to their skilled care, my vehicle passed inspection, is road worthy, and running great! read more

I read several good reviews here and they claim to be Mercedes experts so I decided to give them a shot. My front struts were leaking so I gave them a call and dropped the car off. I did not tell them that I used to work as a mechanic, but did tell them what I thought was wrong with the car. They told me it could be the compressor or a number of other problems and they would figure it out. I said ok, please make sure you test the upper strut seals, and left the car. I received a call about an hour later saying the two front struts were blown and one of the ball joints was really, really bad and unsafe to drive on. I was quoted $4200 to replace the struts and another $1400 to replace the ball joints (he said they had to do them in pairs). I just had inspection done a few weeks ago with no issues with the front end and haven't had any feeling of a failing ball joint when driving so I was a bit skeptical, but they claimed to be the specialists so I was open minded to the fact that it was possible. I said that was more than I was willing to spend right now and I would make arrangements to have the car picked up. A few hours later I got a call saying it would only be $3200 to replace the struts and that the ball joint was only a recommendation and didn't have to be done right now. I said I would think about it and let them know in the morning. I feel bad for people that don't know anything about cars because most people would probably pay the place whatever they asked for if they were told their car was not safe to drive. I went by in the morning and asked to talk with the mechanic who performed the diagnosis so I could ask if and how he/she determined the strut bellows were bad and not the upper seals and also about whether or not it was safe to drive the car. Since I paid $100 for the diagnosis I thought I could at least talk to the person that performed it for a few minutes and get some details. They said he was busy at the moment and would call me later that day and handed me my keys. He never called. The estimate I received had no breakout of parts and labor so I have no idea how they came to $4200. The next day I took it to another mechanic and had the upper strut seals replaced for $400 which fixed the leaks in both struts. I also had him inspect the ball joints and was told they were fine. If you want to spend a fortune on unnecessary repairs and be subject to these types of sales tactics this is the place to go. If you expect to find an honest mechanic here and pay reasonable prices for repairs, good luck, I certainly didn't. read more

First and foremost the only reason i didn't leave one star was because of Glenn. The only employee with customer service and adequate communication skills. The employees can talk about fight club, and talk about their dislike for current politicians but couldn't change my oil in a timely manner. From the moment we walked in at about 815am there was little to no communication. The man behind the desk took our info and said "okay we'll call you when we're done" that was fine with me because an oil change shouldn't take more than 2 hours even if its busy. Hence showing up early. We got breakfast browsed target for 2 hrs and came back. When we walked back in there was no greeting no asking if we wanted water or any update on the car at all. Other customers were not treated this way and even had their cars looked at immediately. We got back at 1030 and set til 109 before anyone spoke to us. So you let random folks loiter in your business? During this time I had my boyfriend go out to where we parked the car around 12 and it was already moved into the shop. Then when finally speaking with Glenn he says "you should of let us know you were going to wait in the lobby" my question is why? As a customer I need to do the customer service too thats a question you should of asked to begin with. They saw us sitting why not ask thats your job Sir! Then he states the car is done when in fact its on the lift right behind him. The man sitting next to him who took our info to begin with visibly looked like he wanted to tell Glenn to hush because clearly there's something shady happening. Glenn then states itll be another hour because our car is next until we point behind him where our car is clearly already on the lift he then quickly changes his story again that it'll be done in 15 minutes. Why the long waits and run around answers? On top of that the employee that brought the car around asks the same thing "why didn't you tell us you were going to wait here" why is that an issue with timely service if anything that question seems shady his name was Mike and I even said this to his face that its a communication on your end. You all saw people in the lobby why not ask its just that simple and your job. Do your job better and don't run people around it looks shady now for peace of mind im taking my car to the dealership thanks guys really appreciate the wasted Day! If you do go be sure to state your whole day plan to them clearly they need to know that for some strange reason. Isn't that what appointments are for? Point blank no oil change should that 6 hours to complete. Never again. read more

Mark, the owner, is incredibly nice and honest (and quite the interesting guy too), two adjectives I previously thought I would never use in relation to anyone in the auto repair industry. The other morning, I walked out to my white car only to find red paint on the front passenger door. It didn't appear to have dented or scratched, but I couldn't rub it off. As a potential new customer, I contacted AutoScandia via telephone and email to obtain service information and an estimate related to my wife's BMW X3. Sadly, I did not receive a return call or a response to my email. If AutoScandia is not interested in expanding its existing customer base, they have done a very good job. Very knowledgeable technicians and great customer service. Not sure why anyone would give anything under 4 stars; maybe they haven't truly experienced bad service. I've brought my E46 M3 here a few times over the years now and the E46 tech (Scott) that works on my car treats it like his own. Dan is always ready to answer any questions I have and keeps me informed. I even asked Scott to look at my hood once as I installed it myself, and he came out without hesitation and gave me good advice on spacing without trying to charge me. I also had a differential fluid change which was done cleanly and at a great price. If I ever have any issues with my car that I can't handle myself, I bring it here. I can trust them like I can a genuine BMW dealership, but with better service and cheaper prices! read more

Wanted to try this auto shop instead of the Mercedes Dealership each time they send a flyer with a coupon on it. Called here three times to inquire how their annual maintenance worked on Mercedes. First time June of last year, second time in November and the third time Spring of this year. They never called me back once. So no idea how they operate or if they are any good. I do know they don't call back potential clients even when you tell them of this issue. Here are the facts, I've taking my vehicle once to this place of buissness before the pandemic started. Honestly I had a good experience hence the reason for the second visit. Same car ( 2019 KIA Forte), same job request(oil and oil filter change), same customer name on file. The reason for the 2 star review? I'll explained. First visit I was given excellent customer service by Rachid on the first visit. The good customer service entitled asking me if I need a ride anywhere, offering beverages (coffee or tea), also asking if i was going to stay in the lobby to wait. Second visit though was different. Checked in and put request in at 8:30am. There was no offer for any of the ammenities.It was quick questions and boom we will call you when we are done. Cool I walked out right after and began my wait. Came back 2 hrs later after walking and enjoying breakfest. To do the rest of my waiting inside the lobby where there was AC. Keep in mind the front door is positioned right infront of the front desk, which is only 5 to 6 feet away. As where the lobby is 10 feet to the left and right of the entrance. From which mechanics and front desk employees tread constantly throughout there work shift. My GF and I where seated in the lobby from 10:30am till 1:09pm. Through out our time of sitting in the lobby we viewed customers, from a couple walk-in( no appointment) to later then our (check-in) get serviced and sent on there way. All where given first visit customers service greetings all though they where regulars. As my GF started to get upset over the inequality of treatment we had witnessed/experienced. That's when I decided to go look in the parking lot, to confirm if they even started to give attention to my vehicle. This occurred around 12ish. At which point it was gone and in the shop. It wasn't until 1:09pm that the brand specialist supervisor Glenn addressed our concern by noticing the only 2 customers sitting in the lobby. I understand it wasn't his fault he didn't personally work on our car, nor did anyone inform him that we had been there for that long. Glenn assumed that his underlings had finished the job. In where he proceeded to look for the paper work to confirm his theory, shortly realizing it was not completed yet. He went into the shop to figure out the status. Glenn came stating that they would need until 2pm to finish because my car was next in line for service. Thats when I replied that I could see my car on the lift already through the shop glass, and that it shouldn't take that long with there advanced tools. Realizing I was irate at this point he said 15mins and sure enough it was done in 15mins. Unfournatley he and his underling mechanic insinuated that if they had known I was going to be waiting in the lobby they would have finished far sooner. To have known or not, priority work request should be met by appointment time and not by whos waiting in the lobby unless specifically told by customer "its OK i have all day". Yes some jobs take longer than others but that is circumstantial, and it was just an oil change. There was no ordering parts involved, no lack there of equipment, and no lack of trained personal. The ONLY reason I'm giving this a 2 and not 1 is because Glen waived all fees and charges. Which I most greatly appreciate. At the end of the day RACHID needs to treat everyone the same or just don't work at the front desk. GLEN Needs stop putting so much faith in his underlings. Other than that he knows how to treat customers. For the owner of the buissness sorry for the bad reviews its just the customers are your MVPs. From the conversations I overheard in the lobby between staff and customers, it tells me one thing; the long time returning customers this morning of AutoScandia trust these mechanics. I can tell they have built their business on trust, honesty and doing the right thing. Very hard to come across an auto repair business now a days that has those qualities. On top of that, as a new customer they let me use a $35 coupon for my $47 oil change! (I have a 2009 Honda Accord) I did not expect to be allowed to redeem the coupon but they honored it without hesitation. I recommend this place to any and everyone needing car repairs/service! I have been working with Mark and his people since 1994 when I had an old Volvo 240. I can tell you numerous stories about how the owner Mark, his right hand man Wayne, and his people have gone the extra mile and supported their work. They are human, and once in a while get somebody who is not up to their standards, but those people are not there very long. There have been errors - they have always corrected them and often done extra work without charge (in one case -Wayne- did extra repairs and service to one of my cars to correct a problem, that should have cost well over $2000, but they did not charge me a dime. Another time I bought a set of tires through Auto Scandia (then Reston Volvo). The tires just didn't work out for me - Mark gave me a new set of tires - almost a year later - at no charge. They have not always been perfect, but they have always, always stood behind their work, and gone the extra mile to correct any errors or issues. This week, I had our old Suburban in for a repair (yes they work on American cars, too). The power steering was out. The steering had been somewhat loose and 'ponderous' for some time. Thinking back to my old days when I worked on my own cars, I was thinking I may need a new steering box (Auto Scandia had replaced other front end components in the last several years) and asked that the steering box be replaced. I believe I spoke to Andrew when I called. Andrew was polite and professional, and advised me that the problems were more likely due to the power steering pump failing over time. He said they would look at it and get back to me, but also reminded me that old trucks don't drive like small new cars (again in a professional manner). Andrew called me back with the Mechanic's assessment and despite my protests, he encouraged me to drive the truck to see how it improved before spending more money. I picked up the car today and he was right - the steering is just fine. He never told me I was wrong, was patient, and took the time to talk me through my concerns and address them professionally. Just like all my experiences with Auto Scandia since the summer of 1994 (then Reston Volvo) the people were honest, professional and polite. Another place would welcome the opportunity to replace a component that well, maybe I might not need, and take the sale and commission. Not Auto Scandia. I know that it can be very hard for mechanics and your service people to feel appreciated, but they should know that I trust them and appreciate what they do. My boys drive this old truck. I trust that if your guys have looked at it, it is safe for them to drive. read more

This review is coming close to a year after getting work done on my car, partially out of laziness and partially to truly stand behind my praise for this shop. During a flash flood last summer I idiotically drove my car into water that was far too deep for my low-rider and completely destroyed everything (engine hydrolocked). I thought that my car (my first car and then one I had wanted for years) was a lost cause. Andrew and the rest of the team worked with my insurance to save my car and they did just that. They were very communicative during the entire process and even let me order some of the parts that I needed for the repairs from third-party vendors to help save me some money (I was a poor college student). Every piece of advice came from their expertise as excellent mechanics and as genuine people that cared to save my car from being totaled. The team even suggested completing some of the preventative maintenance that was scheduled to fall within the next year (new clutch, water pump, etc.) and that also saved me a great deal on labor costs since everything was already pulled apart. My car was essentially a brand new vehicle when I got it back from Autoscandia. It ran and sounded better than it ever had in the 18 months that I had owned it. It has been almost 1-year and 14,000 miles since all of the work and everything is still running great. I cannot recommend them highly enough, I will be bringing my Saab back here until it dies. read more

I've had nothing but fantastic experiences with AutoScandia. They maintained my 2002 Saab 93 beautifully throughout my entire time with the car. When it was time for a new car, Wanye Nord personally put me in connection with another customer of theirs who was selling their 1993 Volvo 940. They inspected the car for me and made the necessary repairs for it to be road ready all while respecting my college budget. Don't really know where to start... but here goes nothing. I received a postcard from Autoscandia saying they now had a Porsche cert tech and to give them a try... so I called and talked to Wolfgang and ended up making an appointment for my Porsche Panamera for Oil Service. I tried to drop off my car today and everything goes down hill. First, the parking lot is jammed full of cars so no parking and good chance of door dings. Second, when I finally double parked to go in the office an employee stops me and says "hope your not getting service today because we need you to come back... our roller door is acting up". He then follows up "you can leave it and maybe tomorrow"." Really? No thanks AutoScandia... That's the best you have to sway Porsche owners from the other Porsche shops like Intersport and IMA and/or the dealership? They might cost a bit more but I've never had a first experience at a shop like this. Guess I'll pay the extra $100-150 for real service at the dealership... at least I'll be treated with some sort of customer service and get my car in/out as promised... you get what you pay for I guess. UPDATE 12/28/16: I was pleasantly surprised to find a note from the owner today. He explained the door challenges they had and generously offered a free oil change as a goodwill gesture. Unfortunately I had my car serviced at the dealership and will give AutoScandia another try next year. Once I get some firsthand experience of the service I'll provide a new yelp update. I LOVE AutoScandia! I've taken 3 BMWs to them over the years and they never fail to provide excellent service. On multiple occasions I have taken cars in with the tire indicator light on; on one occasion my current BMW was cleared multiple times by the dealer before AutoScandia took the time and actually found the problem. They are honest, affordable, friendly and efficient. A shout out to Zack for helping me recently with a tire thing that just needed to be checked and reset. Autoscandia is by far the best auto shop I have been in to.  In an industry whose normal business is to make money out of out-of-warranty BMWs, Autoscandia is one that takes honesty as a part of there policy, a trait I have never seen before in an industry that has one goal in mind, make money out of you every time you bring in your car in for repair. I brought in my 2006 BMW 325i on a flat bed tow truck due to a funny noise emanating from rear right side of the car. You know how it is with BMWs, they are not cheap to fix so I readied myself for another big expense. The initial diagnosis was the rear axle and the initial estimate to get it fixed was ~$800. Got a call later for an additional charge is needed to cover removing the axle itself and the new approximate is ~$1200. I resigned to the amount and made ready my check book. Got a call later from Scott, the technician admitting that an error on the diagnosis has been made. It turn out that the issue was a minor issue of a small rod stuck on the tire. It was an embarrassing admission on the part of Scott but he admitted too that he adhere to a "moral compass", a trait that I have never never seen in this industry. I have always own used cars so suffice to say that I am a regular to this industry. Kudos to Scott and Autoscandia.  I ended up not paying a single cent for the error. They even refused a tip for Scott saying it is not there company policy. This tells you a lot about the kind of company that is Autoscandia. Thanks Scott, thanks Autoscandia. Highly recommend this place. I recently purchased a 1989 BMW e30 as a "project car." A friend recommended I take the car to AutoScandia for some repairs and advice. The guy who handles BMWs, Dan, was very helpful. He had the BMW technician look over the car, change the oil, and do some repairs to address outstanding issues. One part needed to be replaced and they gave me the option to order it on my own and bring it in -- which saved me a ton of money. At the end of the day the costs were very reasonable and I felt they treated me fairly. I was very impressed with their knowledge of the car and the range of issues it might face. Auto Scandia is a GREAT place to take your car for repairs, with great customer service and people who understand your financial situation and your personal needs. My '06 BMW 5-Series broke down and by the time it was towed to Auto Scandia, it was late at night and I thought nobody would be at the shop, but, the owner was still there, as were a few technicians. They helped with the receiving of my broken down car and the paperwork, though they were way beyond closing time. I returned the next day to hear the bad news about the car, and Dan, the BMW specialist, was very thoruough and patient in explaining to me what happened to my car and what needed to be done. Long story short - my car ended up parked in their lot for about a month while I asked them for some time to decide on some options regarding repairing the car. They did not even charge me a fee to hold the car in their lot while I was taking my sweet time and ultimately, the final cost of the repair was literally hundreds of dollars less that what I would have been fleeced with at the dealership. They even did the state inspection without charging extra for that. All through the entire experience, Dan and the other staff at Auto Scandia were nothing but absolutely professional, patient, understanding, and sympathetic to my situation and did all they could to help me out in getting the car repaired - it was just an experience and treatment one would never expect to receive from an auto repair shop, let alone a dealership. I am truly thankful to these guys for not only getting my car repaired, but treating me as a human being and not just someone to rip off, as is often the case with other shops and/or dealerships. The car breakdown happened during the summer and what could have been a terrible summer was saved by AutoScandia - this may sound like total exaggeration, but, I'm still blown away by the positive experience I had with these folks. They will explain everything, be upfront with the cost, and most importantly, are HONEST and not at all shady with what needs to be done - such a difference from the dealerships I've dealt with in the past. My car will need future repair jobs and other work done, and, I will ONLY take my car to Auto Scandia - my days of getting ripped off at local BMW dealers - are over. I finally try again Friday morning and I get 9 words out of the guy. "Autoscandia", I spend 5 minutes explaining my problem, the response I get was "don't know till we take a look", and "bye". When I chose to repair a few things on my own, they pointed out a few other items in need of repair, then let me follow up with them. I have a 2000 BMW 328i that I've had for a few years now. I haven't had to do much maintenance other than the routine oil changes and such, until now. I had a major oil leak and coolant leak, along with a few other major items that needed to be repaired/replaced. I took it to a shop near my home, which turned out to be a big mistake. I realized that after the results from Autoscandia. When it comes to cars, I lean on my father in-law for advice, as he is pretty savvy. He stumbled on Autoscandia for repairs on his BMW, and praised them like no other - in particular, Dan and Scott. I took his advice and decided to go to them. Both have an immense amount of experience and knowledge with BMW's, and it clearly showed. Scott, the mechanic who worked on my car, went in extreme detail about every part he repaired, why he repaired it, and how the parts affect the operation of the car. I couldn't have been more impressed and pleased with the work done, and the level of expertise and generosity displayed by Dan and Scott. I'm a backyard mechanic and am really skeptical of repair shops. BUT, based on my recent experience there, I will ONLY take my Volvo to AutoScandia. Dave was a mechanic with 36 years working on Volvos who did a test drive with me, and the time and expertise he offered explaining an issue to me was beyond belief! Everyone is very nice, but my Volvo was worse every single time I took it out until less than a week later it broke down on the highway in Georgia and almost got us killed. The Volvo guy here said this particular problem "just doesn't happen" with my type of car. I don't know if someone just reached in and messed with the hoses or what and like I said everyone was nice, but I shouldn't be having to bring my car to the shop and spend a few thousand dollars every other month for it to get worse and worse; now I've moved but there's no way I'd bring my car back there anyway - I'm pretty sure I spent over five thousand dollars there in the past six months and nothing was getting fixed, new problems were just popping up out of nowhere. How do I know they did anything at all?! I'm sorry but even if I were still in the area I wouldn't take it back there even for an oil change; I got what I deserved looking for a cheaper alternative and from now on I will just spend a little more and go to the dealership. I initially came here because of the high reviews and I don't know what to make of it now - personal friends of staff, or they had a problem with me personally? If you have a Volvo with a problem, get in and drive immediately to AutoScandia. Mark and his team are the Gods of Volvos. They own them, drive them, and know all the quirks. When a dealer told us we needed a new engine, Mark re diagnosed it and fixed the problem for a fraction of the cost. He was fully invested in helping us solve the problem. I am a huge stickler when it comes to customer service. If I'm spending money on your services or goods I expect you to treat me with only the utmost respect and flawless customer service. ESPECIALLY if I'm spending thousands of dollars (i.e., vehicle maintenance and repair). Maintenance and repairs on my Range Rover are expensive. From the time I purchased my vehicle I have only received major maintenance and repairs through the Land Rover dealership in Chantilly. It was an inconvenience for me to drive all the way to Chantilly from Leesburg even though the dealership offered complimentary loaner vehicles. But I continued going back to the dealership for several years because I did not trust anyone else. Not every shop has the equipment or specialist staff specific to Range Rovers. Then I received a mail flyer from Autoscandia advertising their specialty in Land Rover products and they're located in Herndon. I was very excited. I took my truck in to Autoscandia last week to replace a flat tire and ended up getting scheduled maintenance and replacing front and rear wheel bearings while my truck was there. There was a little miscommunication in the beginning but the owner and manager immediately stepped in to resolve any and all issues. We also found out that the manager, Wayne (GREAT GUY), is my neighbor! What a surprise and relief at the same time. I felt more comfortable and my first visit was excellent. Wayne and the owner (also a great guy) are willing to go above and beyond for the convenience and satisfaction of their customers. I'm beyond pleased with the service I have received. Excellent service and very fair pricing. I will definitely be using Autoscandia again in the future and I recommend anyone else looking for a new spot to try out Autoscandia. We took our Toyota Sequoia to Autoscandia when it came time for a new set of tires. We had heard great things about the shop and wanted a more personal experience that some place like Costco. All of the great things we had heard about Autoscandia proved to be true...the customer service was exceptional, the staff was very professional, and the facility itself was very clean and easy to get to. While there, I mentioned to them that my front license plate holder had broken. They were able to get a new one for me at half the price of the Toyota dealership and it even came the very next day! Would highly recommend Autoscandia to anyone looking for trustworthy auto repair (and who isn't!). read more
