I took my 2014 Honda Odyssey for an oil change today. While there, I asked about a rattle in the back that has been bothering me for a year, which two different mechanics told me would be expensive to repair and require a part to be replaced. The mechanic fixed the rattle, for free in a few minutes! This tells me that there is a higher skill level here than at most places. read more

Besides liking Hondas, I do not want to go anywhere else. I have never had to take my car back after a service has been done. It is done perfectly each time. We've used Motor Works for many years- it the reason why we buy Honda's since they only work on Honda & Toyota. I was having a rather bad day and of course my tire pressure light came on. I stopped by to have the pressure checked and almost before I had a chance to say anything, Paul had the car and said he'd check. Sara, the client care coordinator asked me how my day was going, I told her she immediately showed how much she cared for what I was saying and was there with a hug! Now that is full service! Not only did Paul fix my car, but Sara made me feel better. Giving full service a new definition. Auto body repair shops get a bum rap, mostly justified, but everyone at Motor Works is so nice and they took good care of me. They clearly communicate what is going on and what needs to be done. Great place to do business, and they'll even drive you to the nearby metro station. read more

I have used Motor Works for service on my 20+ year-old Acura since I moved back to the DC area in 2008. This is an outstanding shop having excellent, dedicated staff and top-notch mechanics. I trust them completely and have found over the past 11-1/2 years that they are honest, competent, kind, and considerate. They are clear about what work needs to be done and what is optional, and they provide good value. I noted a negative review below pertaining to some customer-service staff changes that occurred five or so years ago. Rest assured that Greg, the owner, hired a fantastic replacement for someone who was not performing well. The work on my car continued to be excellent. Sara and Paul are a complete pleasure each time I visit. I have felt valued and taken care of at Motor Works for over a decade now. My Acura, alas, is soon to ascend to that great Autobahn in the sky; however, I'll take my new car here for service and, as I recently have been disappointed by a dedicated Toyota mechanic for my other car, will be in the future taking that one to Motor Works, too. read more

As good as it gets. Quality. Integrity. Longstanding client relationships. The Honda Works experience is something that gets passed down in families. Trust in the service industry - especially with auto services - is rare thing. We trust them completely. My stepmom has been going to the Motor Works fellas for well over 10 years. (She is one of the most savvy consumers I know. ) They took care of my brother and me and my used Accord, I had no question about where to go. When I needed major repairs, I came back from Philly to work with them. Their service and quality is unmatched - it was a simple logical decision. I had over $2,000 worth of work done about a year ago, stuff that was priced out to be well over $3,500++ at other places. Dave and the team gave my car a new lease on life and made me feel like I had the best thing on the road. In the process, they gave me a full report on upcoming repairs, when to expect them to be due and how much I should pay. After moving to Chicago, I got an estimate for some upkeep. I called Dave. He remembered my car immediately and knew exactly what the Chicago guys wanted to fix. The Chicago guys were right - the repair was on the list - but Dave felt that it wasn't necessary for another few months. (He was right.) He also made me feel secure about the pricing bid provided. Sadly, my car was totaled recently. I called Dave with the hope that the recent repairs might increase the amount offered by insurance. He took care of me immediately, providing all the needed information to the insurance. Coordinating drop offs can be a little tricky because of the location - but I wouldn't change that aspect. The location, which is off a main road, separates Motor Works - metaphorically and physically - from the crowd of subpar service joints. And, they will work drop offs for you. You will be thrilled with the results and enjoy working with them. Imagine Car Guys - but toned down. read more

I was genuinely amazed at the poor level of service at Motor Works given their stellar reviews. My experience with the friendly and helpful staff was quickly soured by the unprofessional behavior of the service consultant. I was further astonished at their astronomical parts and labor rates which are on par with most dealerships. Many people are unaware that OEM car parts (and tires) can be purchased online for considerably cheaper than what repair shops charge for generic parts. Most shops will even list the parts you need when you get your car diagnosed so you know exactly what to get. Of course some shops won't allow you to bring in your own outside parts for installation, so I first received permission from the service consultant who gave it an OK. I am by no means a seasoned mechanic but had a pretty good idea of what needed to be done from my general knowledge of Hondas. Unfortunately I currently lack the tools or garage space to do most repairs myself. I looked over the repair procedure in the Acura Helms manual, which is essentially a mechanic's Bible. Needless to say I was surprised at the $500 labor fee for a relatively routine repair, so I discussed the quote with the service consultant. I wanted know whether there was another repair needed that I was unaware of based on that labor quote. Apparently it is extremely insulting and offensive to inquire about repair details because the service consultant immediately became irritated and very condescending. He raised his voice making the repair sound more elaborate and difficult than I knew it was and spoke to me like I was a 5-year old. To calm him down I explained I wasn't attacking his integrity or trying to haggle their quote, I simply wanted to understand where the costs came from and described the steps of the repair. His demeanor quickly changed and he muttered something along the lines of "I don't care where you try to get this fixed to be honest..." I was floored by this childish unprofessional attitude and it was the nail in the coffin for me. I drove literally a quarter mile down the road to Hoon's (another Honda/Acura specialist) and had the same work done for less than half the price ($200 vs. $500) and a third of the time (2.5 hours vs. 6-8 hours) that Motor Works had quoted me. I do not question their honesty nor the quality of their repair work, but their attitude and prices are unacceptable in my book. Sadly, many people will pay way too much for parts and repairs at Motor Works only because they don't know any better. read more

Motor Works was recommended to me by my father-in-law quite vehemently. When my wife and I bought her parents' '02 Accord, it came attendant with a folder filled with Motor Works maintenance records. When my clutch refused intermittently to disengage, I brought it to them. I was assisted by Paul, who was courteous, professional, and genuinely competent in all ways. We've recently moved into an apartment, and my lease prohibits vehicle maintenance in the parking lot, and I've a bit of experience fixing my own Hondas, having owned a few prior to this, and I found their diagnosis to be accurate and honest. I was given a few options for ways we might proceed with the repair, from the bare minimum to restore its functionality, or to replace an additional part to ensure long-term reliability. They were honest, and they had my estimate in writing by e-mail about twelve hours after I'd dropped it off. They use OEM parts. They don't use cheap aftermarket replacement parts of inferior quality. OEM parts cost more, but so does a Honda or Toyota vis a vis a domestic auto. The repair was finished quickly, and the final bill ended up being about $20 less than their estimate, always a pleasant surprise. The office staff is knowledgeable, affable, and will go out of their way to accommodate your maintenance and emergency work. They drove me to the car rental agency. I can't imagine bringing this vehicle anywhere else for service. I'm bummed they can't do the recall repair for the airbag issue, else I wouldn't be using Herson's for it. The office and the shop are clean. This means quite a bit to me. It's really easy to see grease all over everything in your mechanic's office and dismiss it as parcel to the business, you'd almost expect a dirty shop. After all, this is dirty work at times. It takes a profound effort and attention to detail to maintain a presence as orderly as Motor Works does, especially considering the business they're in. Highly recommended. read more

Just had my pilot serviced today,they were upfront about what the expected costs would be and then called immediately to let me know what issues their inspection turned up, provided pics of the inspection so I was able to see what they meant, walked me through the whole report, picked me up from the metro and even gave me a "welcome to the family gift". Top rate customer service as well, Sara was wonderful! However it was how my car handled after and the little extras of kindness they did. Best part, my steering wheel, which has squeaked since the day I bought the car, the squeaking drove their mechanic mad, I thought it was just cheap plastic, nope, they fixed it, free, and now no more squeaking! I don't think I'll ever go to another mechanic again, these guys are fantastic! read more

Motorworks feels like a part of my (automotive) family, I can trust the front office staff, their superior technicians, and their integrity completely. I don't worry about my car anymore because I know I can trust them to do that for me. Top Flight work, reasonable prices, high quality service - What more could you want? Well, you could want Dave & Tom & Gregg. They take care of me as if I were part of their family and that is incredible these days. This absolutely pains me to have to update my review, but I feel it is necessary. There have been a lot of front end changes recently which I feel are impacting their ability to communicate with the customer and make the customer feel comfortable. Additionally, I'm not certain what is going on in the back, but the service is no longer up to the expectations that I have come to expect. It seems small, but I am not a Mrs. That is my mother. She's great! But, she isn't me. (If you want to be formal, "Ms." is always a safe bet - just don't assume I am married) After being a customer here for over 10 years, I no longer feel like they know me when I walk in the door. Calling me "Mrs S." was a clear way for them to say that they don't know me from any other customer. The exact opposite of what I have always felt walking in their doors. The other issue that really caused me to stop and question my patronage was that I needed to fill my car with windshield washer fluid a few days ago. I had brought my car into Motor Works about 5 weeks prior to running out of windshield wiper fluid. On the statement which states what they did to my car when it was in for service, includes a charge of $2.40 for windshield wiper fluid. While there has been some snow since then, it hasn't been a lot and there is no way that I have gone through almost a gallon of windshield wiper fluid. Considering this did not happen at all last winter which had far more snow, this leads me to think...."if they lied about this, what else have they lied about?". Small issue. Big implications. As a customer, you trust your mechanic. You trust what they say they did to your car and that they are following through on their word. By running out of windshield wiper fluid in such a short amount of time, I am now questioning their word. Not a good feeling. For ten years, I have felt they were worth the extra money they charged. Now? I don't feel I can trust their word. read more

What happened to Motorworks? We've been taking our Hondas there for over 10 years, but today I walked in and the whole front office staff had changed. I brought my new Civic in for its first minor service at 8 am. At 3:30 they tell me they haven't started on it yet and that it may be done by 5:30. All day for a minor service? Update: The owner apologized for not informing me they'd be keeping the car all day, and wants to keep my business. That's a positive thing, and I've upgraded my star rating as a result. read more

Honest mechanics. I've been taking my 2007 honda cr-v here since I moved to the area four years ago. I found Motor Works on yelp so I wanted to pay it forward. In my 3 times I've dealt with them (non functioning ac, stalling car, and and transmission noise) they have been wonderful. Fair pricing too. Last time we went to drop my car off, it was pretty late at night (after 8). The owner was there still in the office, and took the time to talk to us about the issue with the car so they could diagnose and fix it the next day. read more

I can only attest to the customer service at motor works. I brought my 10 year old car in that was having trouble switching gears. Dave did the diagnostics for the car, found out what was wrong and after realizing how much it would cost to fix, he looked over the rest of the car to find out what else needed to be done with the car. This information was extremely helpful because we needed to make the decision to scrap the car or fix it. He went above and beyond and let us take a few days to decide what to do. We were initially referred to Motor Works by family friends who raved about their service. We started using them and have now done so for over 12 years. This is the single best automotive service we have ever used, for multiple reasons. Most importantly, they are honest and have never led us astray in what we needed. I believe they have saved us money when other vendors would have pushed services for their own gain. The work they have done for us is always superb. They either pick you up at the Metro or give you a loaner car. Usually, they can get the car finished in the same day. They are always very friendly and provide up to date information. I have first started using Motor Works over 10 year ago. They had a great service adviser, shop manager and very talented mechanics. They did great work and were always reliable and trustworthy. There was no overselling or high pressure. A few years ago, the Service Adviser and shop manager both left, as well as a few mechanics - I kept in touch with them and was told that they had a lot of issues with how they owner wanted to run the business. When I returned to Motor Works with new staff, I immediately felt that the business has changed. Now, there was a lot more recommendations for unexpectedly found issues which seemed to drive the repair bills up. My final experience with Motor Works was when I brought my car in for routine service and was told that the rear brakes needed to be done. In addition to brake pads I was recommended new rotors (even though I had not experienced any issues). When asking for reasons for new rotors, I was told they were "corroded" - which is nonsense. Rotors get rusty soon after installation, and even the braking surfaces get rusty after the car has been sitting in the rain, and all of this has no impact on performance. The cost for rear brake pad and rotor replacement was quoted at $600. I took my car to another shop to obtain a second opinion, and was told all I needed was the rear brake pads (a $140 job). I have not returned to Motor Works for services since, and certainly do not recommend it to anyone. read more

This place is great. First, the customer service is very personalized. One of the two guys that runs it always calls you personally to explain what is going to be done before they do it and they will tell you what can wait as well which is even better in my book! They will also give you a ride to the metro and pick you up which means you can get your service done while not missing any wokr for the day. Dave even went so far as to help me out when I had a tire pop and although they were not open and I had to go to Mr. Tire he returned my call and told me not to get anything but my tire done there when I asked him for advice on other services they reccomended. You also get some major coupons for birthdays, first time service, etc... The only downside I really encountered was that they are not open at all Friday's or weekends and it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for and I think anyplace in this area would probably cost about the same if not more! read more
