Why does that matter? Fast forward to now. The exhaust on the car was getting loud and seemed like it was "falling off." We obviously wanted to get this looked at, because the problem certainly wasn't getting any better and potentially breathing in carbon monoxide isn't good. A search turned up automotive evolution, so we went in at 8:30 am today - right on time for our appointment that we set via phone a couple of days prior. The staff were friendly and got the car looked at quickly. As it turns out, it muffler was basically falling off! The exhaust pipe was rusting through behind the muffler. On top of that, the muffler itself also had corrosion perforation / holes in it. No wonder it was sounding like crap and we heard it knock around over the horrible, pothole ridden colorado roads. My car was taken in at 8:30 am, and we had the car back before 11 am, closer to 10:30 am. The price for the exhaust work was reasonable and the quality of the parts and work seems very good. I like that they provide you with photos of the issue and give a report of what they find and/or recommend. Unlike a dealership or big national repair chain, there were no upsell attempts or pressure to pay for things I didn't need. Their price for oil changes appeared pretty in-line with local quick lube shops. The waiting area isn't bad: there are a couple of tables to sit at, a water dispenser with cups, and a restroom. It also sounds like they can make arrangements for rental cars if you need to leave your car for a more protracted repair. While I don't like spending money at a mechanic, that's the reality of having an older car. I definitely won't hesitate to return to automotive evolution in the future and recommend them to anyone who needs a car repair place.

Although the Better Business Bureau web site shows that the business is a corporation, Sam assured me that Applewood Auto Care is not a corporation. Sam wanted to make it clear that they did nothing to cause my car not to start, but he couldn't explain how I was able to start my car and drive it to their shop. The auto shop that ultimately repaired my car said that, as they didn't know what Applewood Auto Care did during servicing, they had no way of knowing why the car wouldn't start, other than the fact that the timing chain needed to be replaced. Therefore, I amend my review of Applewood Auto Care to say, I have no proof that Applewood Auto Care did anything to exacerbate my car starting problem. In my original review, I didn't mention that Applewood Auto Care billing is awkward and unnecessarily confusing. Their oil change coupon special showed a price of $59.95, but no where on my bill was the $59.95 amount. Though a discount was applied, the bill included an unexplained "Fees" amount. Applewood Auto Care did demonstrate an interest in addressing my concerns, and even offered to perform a future oil change free of charge. Sam's reluctance to uniquely identify himself by refusing to reveal his last name was unprofessional and paranoid. Though Applewood Auto Care diagnostics were thorough and well documented with photos, overall, their prices for repair work are high, especially their estimate for replacing the timing chain. Mechanic recommended fixes for the long road trip, we had them completed and picked up the car with seemingly no issues. We were slated to leave the next morning at 5am, so we woke up at 3am to get ready and take the dog out on a walk, where we discovered the splash guard hanging completely on the ground underneath the car (first image + video below). So we had to delay our trip out by 2 hours just to bring it back in. Told them my frustrations with having our travel delayed, and wasn't really met with any sort of apology / compensation. Finally get back out on the road, and when we arrive at our destination the next morning, we noticed a scraping noise when hitting some low bumps.
