AutoNation Honda O'Hare is a highly disappointing dealership. Having purchased new vehicles from six different Honda dealerships in the greater Chicago area, this is the only one that has caused enough of a headache to compel me to write a negative review. Severe Registration Issues: To obtain my permanent plates, I was eventually forced to file a report with the Illinois Secretary of State Police. This drastic step was only taken after three separate temporary plates were issued. I visited both the Lake Zurich and Waukegan SOS offices, and both locations independently advised me that I should request the dealership to fix their errors. Despite numerous calls that went unanswered and two in-person visits where I was treated with total disrespect, the issue remained unresolved. After the third temporary plate expired, I had to involve law enforcement. Broken Promises on Service: At the time of purchase, I was promised that my first two services would be complimentary. However, after driving 45 minutes for my second service, the staff refused to honor the agreement. I felt insulted and cheated, as if the staff looked down on me for expecting them to uphold their salesperson's original promise. I chose not to proceed with the service in this dealership, despite the experience wasted half a day and 1.5 hours of round-trip driving. Final Verdict: Between the administrative incompetence regarding registration and the lack of integrity in this dealership, I strongly recommend looking at any other Honda dealership in the Chicagoland area instead of this one. read more

I had some negative issues with the front office staff when picking my car up. They didn't know where the car was at and I was getting stressed medically looking for it. I have a disabling condition. Repair was more expensive than anticipated. It was over $ 1,000.00 for a starter. I did get dropped off and picked up to facilitate repairs. That was very helpful. Price turned out to be competitive for area, considering it was an original Honda Part. Right now we are going through a major heatwave and the car is starting instantaneously. It had stalled and later started twice in the proceeding week. The job appears to have been done correctly. Tip of the hat to the mechanics who fixed my car, that I never did have a chance to interact with. It can't be easy working in this horrendous heat and their abilities are appreciated. A few months ago the parts people here were very helpful when I had problems with my Keys and battery replacement. Autozone broke it and they fixed it. Nominal charge for that repair. read more

I just sold my car here, and I do not recommend selling your car here: Reasons 1: They said that their appraisal is based on Kelly's book, which the rep showed me as about $17.6k. Just right before the visit, the same rep stated that they'll buy the car for $19k or $19.5k, but the onsite offer was $17k. They provided because the tires needed to be replaced on the 2023 Toyota Corolla, and I did not mention that the tires needed to be replaced. 2: There was no apparent reason why the tires were not in good condition, considering the mileage driven (31k) and the car's age. 3: When I stated #2, the rep said, "There are many other issues with the car," which he didn't explain, and there was no clear evidence of such. It was apparent he had no explicit knowledge of this role as a sales rep, and it left me with a red flag as a service provider. I don't recommend them to my friends, colleagues, or anyone who reads this. This type of behavior cascades to other services, so I assume some people also had a problem with buying cars there. read more

I expressed interest in the 26 Passport online. The salesperson I was in contact with (Rachel) invited me to come in for a test drive. I went to the dealership to do that. Once I got there she couldn't find the car or keys I expressed interest in. I have never seen a dealership so incompetent, unorganized, and unprofessional. I would strongly recommend looking for a different Honda dealership. This was the first time going to this dealership and I would say my experience was that Autonation Honda O'Hara is a hot mess. Pricing could be better both for cars and service. I went to another dealership near my work and they did the service without any extras and in way less time than AutoNation. Plus I got a ride in a nice minivan. People at that dealership were nicer in general, never were high pressuring me to buy something I don't need. Won't come back to AutoNation and will go to the other dealership, even if it's more than 25 miles away. For both service and buying a car. O'Hare isn't what it used to be, if it ever was. This week got a letter from secretary of state stating there is a problem with my license plate. Went back to the dealership to fix the problem and they said they cannot help me with anything. My brother went with him because he is 85 yrs old, and we wanted to make sure he was taken care of and not taken advantage of. The whole experience at AUTONATION HONDA O'HARE was very positive. Dec 2024 - My dad side swiped the car and hid the accident from his family. Instead of having it repaired for a reasonable amount of money, he went back to the AUTONATION HONDA O'HARE, by himself, to trade-in the new car with 1700 miles on it for the exact same car. The base price of the car was $34,000. The damaged car was taken as a trade-in for $18,500 and then the exact same car was sold back to him for the base price $34,000 for an additional out-of-pocket cost of $20,000 after all of the taxes and extra charges including an appearance protection charge of $899 on BOTH cars...they didn't even transfer the car washes from one car to another that he will now never use. Does that sound like a reasonable transaction made between AUTONATION HONDA O'HARE and an elderly man alone? April 2025- We were very careful supporting my dad for as long as we could. I had to invoke Power of Attorney due to a medical diagnosis of vascular dementia. Imagine our surprise when we discovered this had happened. Now my brother and I have a less than 6-month-old brand-new car with less than 500 miles. On May 3rd, 2025, we went to AUTONATION HONDA O'HARE to give them a chance to make it good. They did not ask for my documents. I am already Power of Attorney and did not require such a document. He said it was AUTO NATION POLICY. They made money on the sale. They made money on the trade-in. They made money selling the trade-in they fixed to sell as a used car. They made money on the second sale. They wanted US to spend MORE money on an unnecessary attorney fee. Rachel confirmed it for me, my husband, and my father. After we test drove the car and waited about 45 minutes, she gave us a new price of over $48,000?!? NO STAR##### I was at OHARE HONDA to do routine maintence of my car. Ohare honda presented me with over five thousand dollars in additional repairs estimate which I refused. Then they send over a very ignorant employee from used cars to offer to buy the car from me. I never asked for any appraisal. The used car employee told me my car is not even drivable and they are doing me a favor by offering to buy the car. WHICH I REFUSED. Then he harassed me for 5 min. Then they send their overly polite used car manager who offered to buy the car from me. WHICH I REFUSED again... this harrassment went on for 20 minutes. At this point my car was done with maintenance. The service advisor purposely slowed billing me out so the ignorant used car employees get time to harrass me. I lost my patience and demanded them to bill me out. Two very rowdy and racist white managers came from inside their office and threatned me and told me if I dont keep my mouth shut they will have me arrested for trespassing. I recently purchased a used car from AutoNation Honda O'Hare and couldn't be happier with the service and the dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction. Big shout-out to Rich in sales and Nick in finance, who made this day a real pleasure. UPDATE: I included payment for shop work with my down payment. It took too long to get anything scheduled and I ended up cancelling the repair which was to a minor dent. Lindsey, the manager/supervisor (who was later transferred to Toyota - although she shoulda been promoted to customer) first told me I could not get my money back. After speaking to another rep, I was told I COULD get my money back and was assured the check would be cut and issued to my loaning bank, as I could not receive it personally even though it came from my money and was not part of the loan. Shortly after I come to realize the check was never issued, starts the 2 year long process of going back and forth with this place and being given the run around by just about everyone except the rep who finally got the check cut and sent to me personally - Dylan Pizzino. Halfway into this struggle and after visiting a few times in person, Lindsay changed her mind and assured me she could help me get my money back for services not performed, but she never answered my emails and ultimately just left my very clear cut case in limbo upon her transfer to Toyota. I have emails to prove all of this. Dylan finally helped but was very difficult to get ahold of despite numerous attempts. The only way I finally did was by having the front desk rep answer the phone and actually go to Dylan, because I asked him not to simply transfer me, as he was not picking up. I was being patient, as I'm not talking about spam calling in a matter of minutes, but calling hours in between each attempt and leaving clear voice mails. All in all, it took well over 2 years, and countless emails, texts, phone calls, and in person visits to get back my $600 for services that I cancelled after they took too long to book, and I will not be doing business with AutoNation Honda O'Hare again. I am also informing all my friends and family who are considering buying a car, as this place does not give a spit about its customers after they've taken their money. The sales associate, Richard Ness was helpful and very friendly when helping me purchase the car. So much that my dad, who was with me, actually gave him a $50 cash gratuity for his great customer service. But when push came to shove he just could not help me get the ball rolling with my situation, and with each of my follow ups I could tell he cared less and less, and I was not being taken seriously by him nor his higher ups. read more

As an update to a previous review, my Mother brought her 2013 Honda Accord in for some basic maintenance and they manipulated her bill up to almost $1000. Told her she needed to get even more done. They charged her for a four wheel alignment even though the rear was out of true and according to them it can't be adjusted. They didn't tighten the lug nuts on one tire correctly. Today most of the nuts came off and the wheel almost came off. The plan was to replace the arm to correct the alignment issue, now the plan is to replace the arm and a few other parts due to their shoddy craftsmanship. Cost for the repairs is now a little over $600, but it is needed. What doesn't appear to be needed is the $2000+ cooling system repair. Four months later, arguably not many miles driven, but the coolant level hasn't dropped. If you want to work with a place that preys on the elderly this is it! read more

If I could give Auto Nation a zero I would! In February 2024 I bought a 2015 Hyundai Elantra for my son with 90 thousand miles. I was shown paperwork and checked the VIN and everything seemed fine. Within 2 months the car was lurching. Took it in because it was under warranty and they kept it 5 days, charged me $250 for diagnostics and said nothing was wrong. Last September after the warranty had run out I had to pay $4,000 for a NEW TRANSMISSION! I contacted BBB and I couldn't even locate the manager of the place. 3 days ago the car wouldn't start. Had it towed to a repair place not a dealership and they told us there was a RECALL for the engine. An engine is $3000 and I don't know how I'm going to get this car fixed. I paid $15,000 for the car, $4,000 for a new transmission and now the engine is shot. We bought the car one year ago. Do not buy a car from Auto Nation they are shady as they come! read more

STOP ! I WOULD READ ALL THE REVIEWS - I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO MENTIONS THESE EMPLOYEES DROP THE FXXX BOMB ! ! ! ! So we brought our car in for servicing only to find out supposedly it needed a new engine. By the end of this ordeal, we were made to feel like we should be grateful that they gave us the time of day. Originally, the first customer service person, which is really quite ironical (customer service rep - really), wound up dropping the F . . . bomb, " get the F out of here " in front of numerous other customers, even after I asked her prior, politely, to stop talking to me. Not only did she continue to talk to me, but she was going to be the rep talking to my warranty company, after her comment "maybe you didn't change the oil" ! - which we had - regularly. When I complained - The manager indicated she's probably having a bad day, as if that should ever be used as a response by management for an employee, utilizing inappropriate language. The rest of the ordeal with this dealership was the car wasn't fixed correctly because it died before it even left the lot the first time, so clearly nobody took it for a test drive after they put a used engine in, after taking approximately a month to do so. The second time was no better, we turned onto River Road, and the car made a loud bang, and stopped right in the driveway of this dealership, along came another month without my vehicle. The third time was no charmer, and I couldn't make this up If I tried, again, it never made it out of the lot this time supposedly a turbo, and of course, nobody could possibly have taken it for a test drive with the noise it was making. Again another month without a car, nothing but excuses from the manager, who I refused to talk to anybody else - from Miss congeniality on. This time I found out why all this time (three months ) and energy was spent. It was because they had to put a used engine in because of the warranty company that the Schaumburg Honda slammed me into and never bothered to tell me it was not a Honda product warranty. So now the hunt is on for a used turbo apparently. I would not buy a brand new red flyer wagon from this place. Honda Schaumburg was the only one that had the CRV in stock, the Des Plaines dealership happens to be close to my house, I wouldn't buy something from either one of them, however. Please don't waste your time here, Toyota has a much better product, Mattel battery operated kids cars have a better product then Honda anymore and apparently they don't care because there seems to be nothing but one star reviews, and yet, this company is still allowed to run one of their dealerships. read more

Top top it off... Arrived at the dealer, had to wait 20 minutes, and got to see the car get sold in front of us. At one point this place would have received 5 stars when I first purchased my very own Honda Civic back in the late 90's. Buying a car back then was a lot different than it is today. Today it's very transactional and there's no haggling. So let me elaborate why I am giving this dealership 1 star. If I could give zero I would. This place is just very disappointing and fell way short of my expectations. My father in law purchased a used car with a salesman named Joe. My father n law saw the car advertisement on the Internet and ended up working with Joe. We decided to come in on a Tuesday night to purchase the vehicle and they have a 5 day guarantee no questions asked and no hassle return. It's really 5 days or 250 miles. But they also jacked up the mileage on the contract and added an additional 80 miles which they claim was a mistake. After further thought we decided the car wasn't in the best shape and we decided we will return the car since we are within the 5 day window to return. So on the 4th day and we drove it back and asked for Joe and they made us wait 2 hrs on purpose to make it difficult to return and gave us a hard time when they advertised no hassle returns. Joe kept telling us we had to wait for the used car manager and they are busy selling and making deals. Basically they had no time to waste on a return. Then finally after 2 hours this very rude used car manager named Dana came by and asked why we are returning the car. We said hey there is supposed to be no questions asked. He replied well of course I want to ask the questions since we spent a lot of time on the paperwork to sell you this car and we would like to know why you are returning it. So we explained why and they finally said ok take the plates off the car. So 2.5 hours later we left. Worst dealership! read more

In March 2023, I purchased a beautiful red 2020 CRV from Hassan Shanon at Auto Nation Honda O'Hare. I had been researching cars and dealerships for several weeks prior to my visit. Honda O'Hare had good reviews and is close to home, so I made an appointment to see a particular HRV in stock. I was promptly greeted by several of the sales staff upon entering the showroom. Hassan was assigned as my sales consultant. From his first hello as a stranger to our last goodby as friends when I left with my Honda, Hassan was personable, knowledgeable and professional. He knew I would rather have a CRV (because he is a good listener) so, along with the HRV i came for, he showed me a beautiful red 2020 CRV that was just as affordable. He made every aspect of the sales process pleasant. I also would like to thank Gary Johnson, who did my paperwork. These 2 men were just a joy to work with. At no time did I feel pressured to make any decision I wasn't completely on board with. Also it is important to note that Auto Nation does NOT add any fees or "mandatory add-ons" to their vehicles for sale (except for the industry-wide $300 doc fee). It is a one-price store and their pre-owned cars were priced fairly. The pandemic and the chip shortage has us , even now in a market severely lacking in inventory, both new and used. It is not a great time to be a buyer! Many OTHER dealers have taken horrible advantage by charging crazy fees. During my research I saw a dealer putting $4000 of EXTRA markup on their pre-owned inventory and even one dealer who has $15,000 (yes, you read that correctly) addendums on their new cars......so it is definitely the Wild Wild West out there. Please know you will not encounter any of these abhorrent tactics at Honda O'Hare. Even if you are an inexperienced buyer or a single person shopping without an "advisor" you will be treated fairly and with respect at AutoNation Honda O'Hare. I hope you get to work with Hassan and Gary, like I did. read more

Over the years, I've regularly purchased cars online and traveled to get them. Over time, I've had mostly wonderful experiences doing so. However, with AutoNation Honda O'Hare, I've had the opposite. When initially reviewing the multiple photos of a RAV4 they were selling on Cars.com, it looked like a pretty decent car for the money. After calling to inquire, I agreed to purchase the vehicle and travel to get it. Well AFTER I signed the purchase agreement and purchased a plane ticket...the dealer texted me a picture of the same car with a significant amount of paint missing next to the hood (looked PERFECT in the photos I had seen previously). Even though I signed the purchase agreement based on pictures that clearly showed the same vehicle with NO damage to the paint, they refused to fix the damage or budge on price - NOT A PENNY! So, I got to eat my $400 plane ticket and continue shopping for my college son's car. Please think twice before doing business with this dealer. They clearly do not care about the customer or doing the right thing. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised when this dealership, after completely misleading me into buying a plane ticket, wouldn't even consider a small reduction in price to deal with a car with a known factory defect causing the paint not to stick to the primer. My Mother went to the dealership to have her oil changed. It appears that they took the opportunity to boost the profits of the dealership. Her oil change, after the extras and add-ons was over $900 and they told her she needed another $2,000+ that they couldn't do because it would be over seven hours to repair. My Mother does not believe that they explained the extras and the costs for them. She said the service writer came out to her and told her that they were going to be doing a number of things. I find it interesting that they put an oil additive in when it looks like the oil they installed is a synthetic. Some of the other items are the ones many people identify as unnecessary ways for dealerships to pad the bottom line. I am taking her car to a mechanic I trust to see if he can figure out what the $2,000 repair consists of. Based on the written description he was clueless and since there are no drips under the car even more curious. After they rotated her tires they performed a four wheel alignment. The rear camber on one side is off, they four wheel alignment did nothing to correct it, only the toe was adjusted. My mechanic said the arm needs to be replaced and rear aligned again. Total for this repair about $375. Sadly, their alignment seemed to be just another means to rachet the bill higher. I contacted the dealership and asked to have the General Manager contact me. I wanted to ask for a review of the work that was charged and what wasn't corrected. It would be nice to know what the $2,000 repair entails and ask him to remind his employees that when dealing with elderly women it would be a very kind thing to make sure they understood the work proposed and whether it was necessary. My Mother did not feel that she had a choice and was told these are the things they were going to do to her car. She does not recall them telling her the cost, I think she would have remembered $900. She has been losing sleep, feels that they took advantage of her age and her lack of knowledge. No response from the General Manager or anyone from the dealership. read more

I gave this dealership 4 stars because I got a great trade in price, I appreciated the number of women working in a usually male dominant workplace, and I felt the vehicle price was good. That being said there are things a buyer should be aware of . I was in the market for a new minivan. I did extensive research and read every Yelp review for dealers within 50 miles of my house. This was scary because every dealer has very crappy reviews. I almost said forget it after reading reviews. Next , I used cars.com and kbb.com to have dealerships send me their "best prices". Slimes!!!! Many constantly emailed for me to come in and talk , gave quotes that included numerous rebates they knew I wouldn't be able to get. I didn't feel comfortable shopping in person during a pandemic and many dealerships straight up said we won't give you best price unless you come in. Bogus! Autonation gave best price snd said it included all fees other than tax, title, doc fee, plates. I made an appointment. Sales lady was Roxsana who I really liked. She was knowledgeable about the car but didn't use crazy high pressure tactics. Got a great trade in price, of course I had another quote from another dealership for them to beat, and they did by quite a bit. The only problem came when final paperwork came and they tried to throw in extra charges including: environmental protection fee, wheel locks, window tint, weather tech floor mats, windshield glass protection. About 3,000 dollars of fees! I absolutely refused to pay it and said I was done . The manager came and eventually took it all off and things got pleasant again . This is shady and I told them that. I showed the email where I requested to know price with all fees included. I only took off one star for this shadiness because I had a feeling they would do it after reading the reviews and I knew I just had to refuse to pay it and all works out .
