I recently had to come here over the last couple of months because my check engine light came on and I did not have a code reader. I had learned that Autozone code reads for free. The staff that works there were all helpful and friendly on both occasions. It took less than 5 minutes for the reader to do its thing. Once that's done, you go back in the store and their computer reads out the possible reasons what could be wrong and if a part is needed, lists the part and if available in the store. The first time, it was simply the gas cap. They had what I needed in stock so I was able to purchase it right away plus they give a 10% military discount. They also print the info for you, in case you need to bring your car in to an auto mechanic. The 2nd time, it was possibly the thermostat but it was not definitive nor did it list any parts needed. Fortunately, I had my nephew take a look to see if he could fix it, which he did. He even found the part in stock at the same Autozone. I would definitely go there again & recommend it to anybody that doesn't have a code reader. It did save me time and money of taking it in to a repair shop. The reader sometimes may not give you the exact diagnosis, but will pinpoint you in the direction of what could be wrong. read more

I tried to exchange a broken Duralast rachet. The person at the register told me that there are no returns or exchanges on products outside of the return period, and that I would need the receipt and original packaging. I tried to explain the lifetime guarantee shown on Autozone's website and the person replied that it's a brand guarantee, not Autozones. Isn't Duralast Autozone's in-house brand?! Very disappointed that either the person wasn't trained or Autozone doesn't stand behind their warranty. O'Reilly's is next door. read more

On Oct. 22, I went to get a battery replacement and left with the employee accidentally breaking my radiator pipe. While they temporarily remarried the issue, they failed to mention to put a clamp on the connector to the hose. While he advised me to put water and coolant, and the manager said to replace the radiator, I once again only needed a clamp to remedy the issue. But what transpired the next day are my radiator hoses bursted off the connectors and the coolant splashed all over my engine. That whole night, my car died on me multiple times on the freeway, and I didn't know what the issue was at the time. VSC off, check engine light on. I prayed I would make the drive from Kahala to home in Pearl City at 11:30 p.m. out of fear my car would explode. My car overheated and was smoking by the time I parked in front of my house. When I called the next day for compensation, the manager said he could only waiver 10% for repair parts. I spent around a grand trying to repair my car because the issues exacerbated, and the AutoZone manager in store has not once helped besides the 10% courtesy fee. These issues would have been resolved has AutoZone addressed and compensated for their faults, but I left with more damages than solutions, and now I'm dealing with their consequences. read more

We walked in and hubby went in line and talked to the nice guy at the register. He was looking for the part on his computer but nothing available. Solid spot. They were open late, and my girlfriend's hybrid battery died out. We were able to get a jump, and came by here, where they had her battery in stock at a decent price. Unfortunately, they couldn't help with install because it was dark out, and then when we asked if we could bring it in the next morning, they said no because it's a Prius. Seemed strange to us. Anyway, we ended up getting help with install, but only with their battery, so we brought the one we bought the previous night back, and they processed the refund nicely and politely. Really friendly staff here, for what it's worth. Services seemed odd or picky-choosy, but at least they gracefully accepted that we sought help elsewhere. I called the manager an ASSHOLE because he was acting like one. I TRULY thought that as a manager (Jose) would try and explain to me in a professional manner why my parts weren't there. Living in Aiea, it's a choice between AutoZone in Salt Lake or Pearl City, but after today's encounter with Dex, the store in Salt Lake is our location. We were exchanging windshield wipers for my daughter's car because she had purchase one incorrectly by "guessing" the year of her car. Wanting to make sure she was more aware and responsible for the privilege of driving a car I accompanied her to the store. Lucky girl got Dex as the person to assist. Not only did he explain the different types of wipers available and help with selecting the correct blades, he also made sure they were put on correctly. Ordered parts online then waited for an email stating that the parts were ready for pickup. After a few hours I stop by the store, in the area at the time, the saleswoman was not helpful despite being the only customer in the store at the time. I asked her about my order and she stated that it was not ready although the stores website indicated that the.parts were in stock at their location. On to the next day and just before lunch I contacted the store and inquired about my order. This salesperson was helpful and after a few minutes informed me that my order was ready. I proceeded to the store following the call. Upon arrival, a salesperson retrieved the ordered parts. I inquired as to the reason why I was not notified and he mention there were problems with their system. I departed the store and noticed a tag affixed to the parts boxes. Printed on the tag was a timestamp and it just happened to be at the time I called to inquire about my order about 1/2 hours prior to my arrival. If I had not called perhaps my ordered would not have been fulfilled. I will refrain from shopping at this location. My experience with other Autozone locations have been positive and I may continue to patronize the other stores. As far as service is concerned Oreilly Auto Parts next door is far superior. I went in for a new battery today because I picked up my car from the port and it was deader than a door nail. I bought the battery and got the tool kit in exchange for my I.D. to replace it in the parking lot. Of course, The kit was missing a 14 mm wrench for a bolt to take off the negative terminal. When I asked the counter in Autozone if I could get the extra tool, they informed me that is all they had. So I asked what I could do and they responded by saying, "you could buy a wrench here but that's about all we can do." I grabbed my old battery and walked into O'Reilly's auto parts and asked for a tool, and the associate proceeded to walk me back to their back area and present me with a cart with a bunch of tools and a full set of sockets and wrenches. I used the tool I needed and I was about to walk out and he said I could use whatever I needed to complete the job outside. I walked the battery back to my car and completed the job, started my car, and went to get my measly $18 empty battery cap refund. I asked why a Fortune 500 company (that specializes in tools and car parts) wouldn't be able to present me with a simple wrench, and that maybe they should look into getting a complete kit. They said nothing, and I said, "I hate to be "that" customer, but if I wasn't in a rush I would return this and go buy it from O'Reilly's, because they took the extra step to give me tools and I didn't even buy anything from them." They said nothing and just looked at each other. I said have a good day and they said the same. I walked the wrench back that I used and the associates told me to come back anytime and it was pleasure doing business with me, even though I did not buy anything from them. I bought the Lucas power steering fluid and the cheapest funnel. First a female cashier mentioned that the rules were that they could not pour any liquids into my vehicle but I was then serviced by Dexter a manager here and I had asked him if he could kindly show me where I had to pour this liquid and he was so nice and kind enough to help me out. He came out of the store to help me open my hood up and assisted by showing me the location and where I needed to pour the steering fluid That is by far the most excellent service I got from this store. If I could recommend anyone to this store, I would have everyone come down and specifically see DEXTER! Place is nice, new, and smells like paint. I love AutoZone, because they remind me of spending long hours there with my dad, as a child. Staff is very friendly, and we were asked if we needed help multiple times. They also stayed and chatted a little bit, which was nice and showed that they really cared. Only downside to this place would be the price. It is convenient, but if you can wait to get it somewhere else, you might want to shop around. I'm giving them five stars because from the moment I walked in there, it was bright, clean, nice, and all the employees seem friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. To me that's more important. A novice car enthusiast could go in here, and have a good experience. A seasoned mechanic would do just as well, and also have a good experience.
