I was helped by a woman whose appearance did not suggest that she was knowledgeable in the automotive mechanics. I told her the full details as explained above and her overall assessment and explanation was "Because of the drop in temperature, this problem may have occurred! She also went on to say that there may be a dead cell in the battery also. She did run the system check with the scan tool and I would assume that all other related components, starter, alternator and of course the battery, where in their proper working range. I decided to return the vehicle to the dealer and have them diagnose and repair this problem.

He said, sure, we should have those and called for a parts puller up to the counter to help me. Another 20 minutes elapsed before someone showed up. He went huntin' (as he put it), for the part. He came back empty handed after 10 minutes. While not convenient, I guess that's just the way it is, especially when trying to avoid paying Ford $25 for a new one.
