March 25, 2020 around 4:50 PM. I went to Autozone on 23918 104th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98031. I have spent A LOT of money at this store in the past. Walked in and was greeted by William. He asked what he could help me find and I told him I was looking for a 13mm offset ratcheting dogbone and that I also intended to buy some electrical connectors. He directed me to aisle 2 and told me if they had the dogbone, it would be in the red section there. I went and looked. Saw some complete wrench sets and decided to look around to see if maybe I could find something else that would work for my project. Now here is where it gets weird.... As I am walking down the aisle, in a stern tone of voice William tells me "Sir, I can't have you wandering around the store!". I told him "I'm just looking to see if you have anything else that may work for what I need". He responds (again sternly, as if I were a child) "IF YOU DON'T SEE IT IN THE RED AREA, WE PROBABLY DON'T HAVE IT! HAVE YOU TRIED MCLENDONS? WE CAN'T HAVE PEOPLE WANDERING AROUND THE STORE!". I responded "Look! I am shopping and I intend to make a purchase here!". Again he tells me "IF YOU NEED SOMETHING WE HAVE TO PULL IT FOR YOU! YOU CAN'T WANDER AROUND THE STORE TOUCHING EVERYTHING! IF YOU COME IN AND DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT WE CAN'T HELP YOU!" (Bear in mind I have literally touched NOTHING in the store!) I thought a minute, got fed up, and told him "OK! I'll take my dollar elsewhere!". I went across the street to O'Reillys. When I walked in, I received a friendly greeting and proceeded to go about my business of looking for the tool I needed. I walked around the whole store and not a word was said. I ended up buying some shrink tube and connectors. I then went to McLendons. Again I walked in and was given a friendly greeting. Again I searched the store looking for my tool. Several employees helped direct me to the right area and none harassed me about "wandering around the store". I purchased my wrench, left, and went back to Autozone so I could get Williams name for this review, and explained to him that I was treated much better in the other two stores. I informed him that I would be writing this review. His response? "Dude, we can't have people wandering around the store!". As I have stated, I have spent A LOT of money at this store! I explained that to him, and the fact that because of my treatment I would never be back!! I only write reviews in two situations: Either the service was outstanding (which is so rare in this day and age that I feel it deserves special recognition), or the service was absolutely terrible as it was in this case! Folks, I get that we are in a trying time right now, but there is absolutely NO REASON TO TREAT ANY CUSTOMER LIKE THIS!! I was simply shopping, with an intent to buy what I needed at this Autozone. I was absolutely maintaining a 6 foot distance from others, and I certainly wasn't handling any merchandise! I was looking around, because anyone who has done a significant amount of mechanical work knows that sometimes projects require "outside the box thinking" and I was shopping for a solution. But Captain Corona acted like my mere presence was contaminating the entire store! Sadly, this probably won't do much good. Not many people read reviews before they go to the auto parts store. William and his colleagues will probably read it and have a good laugh. I am mainly writing it with the hope that Corporate or someone at a higher level than this stores manager sees it and perhaps wants to check on their business. If it helps you, the reader, avoid a bad experience then I am glad I got to help, because no one deserves the treatment I received at this store! Vote with your dollar folks! It's one of the only freedoms we have left! DO BETTER AUTOZONE! YOU'VE LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!! That may not matter much to you. I'm sure that another customer lost will make little difference in your bottom line. But in case you care, you have a real problem at this location!

He didn't just try to sell me something; he explained that while the battery might be the issue, it could also be the starter or another problem. He laid out the risks honestly, but after listening to his expert advice, I took the chance and bought the Duralast Gold battery. TALON H walked me through the whole process step-by-step, even installing the new battery for me. He was so pleasant, professional, patient, and knew his stuff. And then--we ran full diagnostic tests with the AutoZone scanner, and EVERY single part of my system passed! Cranking volts, RPMs, charging system--all green. The car is running like a champ now. This man needs a raise and a promotion. No joke--I'd hire him to run any business I'm a part of. He's sharp, respectful, has excellent customer service skills, and knows cars inside and out. If you're at AutoZone and lucky enough to get TALON H, you're in the best hands. This was my first time at AutoZone and it won't be my last. I'll be bringing all my car business--and my friends and family--here from now on. All because of TALON H.

Autozone's return policy according to the register receipt and what is found online allows returns for all goods, as long as they are new and have not been used, up to a 90 day time period. This is also what is reflected online on Autozone's website. How did I find out that this location doesn't accept returns on tire chains? I had purchased a set here and didn't wind up using them. When I came in to return them, I was informed by the staff that Autozone accepts all returns except for tire chains. I asked the lady who was assisting me what policy or documentation that stated that Autozone doesn't accept returns on tire chains... and she could not produce anything. She told me that is what her district manager told her, and that no exceptions could be made on her part. She told me to call her district manager to inquire about the hidden policy. My question is, how can you institute a rule without having any documentation? Especially when it goes against the company's own return policy online and on the register receipt. If a store is going to make any rules about what can't be returned (especially if it goes against the company's own PUBLISHED policy), it should be written down and made known/aware to all purchasing customers. How can you institute something that is just based on hearsay and not written down through a policy/procedure? Look, I wouldn't be as upset as I was if there was actual proof (documentation, policy/procedure) to substantiate the store policy... but there wasn't. For travelers coming to Seattle, requiring tire chains.. AVOID this Autozone location! Lack of transparency on store policies is a NO go for me, and a representation of poor customer service.

Every time I've gone in, she's been professional, kind, and generous with her time and knowledge, with a wonderful sense of humor that immediately puts me at ease. The other night I arrived shortly before closing needing two batteries for my 2008 Ford F‑350. Tracy actually locked up the store and then came out to help me install both batteries, making sure everything was working before she left. To be honest, my loyalties used to be divided between AutoZone and O'Reilly's, depending on which one was closer when I needed parts. My experiences with Tracy have made me a loyal AutoZone customer, and I'll happily drive farther to go to her store. Thank you, Tracy, for making every visit to AutoZone such a positive and productive experience. I will definitely be back.
