I was having major drainage issues with removing surface water fast enough in my backyard which was pooling water next to the foundation. I called several places I found on Yelp on a Saturday afternoon during a heavy rainstorm. To my surprise he picked up the phone and was out the same day to walk the job and propose a solution. Alex, Claro, and the entire AV landscaping team did a great job in transforming my driveway and water irrigation system. I had been seeking a reputable company to help with water leakage at a property, and they were one of many companies I had vetted. However, when it came down to it, Alex's positive vibe and professionalism won both me and my dad over. As others have said, its essential to be flexible. We love that. We are not easy people to deal with, because things keep needing to be changed and addressed and Alex was very accommodating. My neighbors were all wondering what type of magic was going on during the transformation of my driveway and entry way. What initially started to me as a water irrigation issue, turned into another project where my driveway was transformed into a work of art. Dad decided to add pavers and redo the entire driveway. Along the way , other issues started arising that needed flexibility to address and fix. Timelines had to be extended, and they really did work with us. While on the project, I was in a health crisis, and My dad had to step in and deal with Alex without me at a certain point at the end. What I like about Alex is his work ethic, great communication (always sending photos and video updates to both me and my father so I would be in the loop of what was going on, his ease and flexibility and his valuable input on giving opinions and options. Because between my dad, my mom, and me we all had opinions on what we all wanted. Alex was great a negotiating a happy compromise to make everyone, even the toughest critics (Me) happy. There were some unexpected hiccups along the way, and I am happy that Alex was able to navigate them and address them at the end so I would have a safe space to move about, especially the stairs. Somethings were out of my control, but it was peace of mind knowing that Alex and his crew would be able to deal with it and find solutions without me micromanaging everything. I have happily referred AV landscaping to others including neighbors, family members and I am happy to recommend AV landscaping for hardscaping, soft scaping, and other needs to my Yelp community. They were even working on the weekends to be able to make the deadline promised to come to life. Payments were also easy to navigate. From Beginning to end I would use them again. I will be using them for a future project once permits and HOA issues are addressed appropriately. 10/10 Fun Fact: Alex is multilingual, so it helps. He can speak fluent English, Spanish, Farsi as far as I know and it's been a pleasure working with him. I do have to say, that I learned from this project is that it's essential to keep a check list of all issues that need to be addressed, and to be flexible. Sometimes the crew are working multiple locations on multiple projects at the same time. So, being flexible is essential. Last year we had Alex and his crew update our backyard by extending our patio, adding a custom fire pit and concrete bench, adding a patio cover, capping our retaining wall and added lighting. We wanted to write this review for AV Landscaping after having Alex and his team remodel our entire backyard. We had been wanting to redo our backyard for several years and more or less thought we knew what could be accomplished with our space. After having several bids and contractors come out, it was Alex who stood out. He came up with some designs and ideas that we hadn't really thought were possible. Reading other reviews of his company, someone said something to the effect of just let Alex roll with it. That's exactly what we did. It was a very smooth process. I can't say one bad thing about his team who showed up every day right on schedule and cleaned up after the work day. Everyone we had at the job site was always friendly and helpful if we had questions. Alex was able to get plans drawn up to appease our HOA, and kept the front free of materials and debris. A great thing about the whole project was the flexibility. A few times in the process we had some items change, like the placement of the retaining wall or which plants to use at the end. It was nice to be able to alter things and get an idea of how it was going to look before making things final. Alex is very good with communication, in fact he was available pretty much all the time if we had questions. It was nice dealing with someone local to us. We were able to go pick out materials at Resource Material right down the street. For the turf, I feel like there were close to 15 different options to choose from. Drainage, sprinklers, fencing, lighting that all runs on newly installed wi-fi transformers, the team can do it all! Our project was a full remodel as you can see in the pictures. It really turned out better than we imagined when we decided to go for it. It is a completely different space now, one we are proud of and excited to see when we look out into the backyard. What a professional company! I first contacted AV Landscaping in mid-April at the same time I contacted a couple of other companies. We had an old, out-of-style fountain in our backyard that leaked all the time, and we wanted to replace it with a more modern look. A few companies literally never returned my call and a few others, I was unimpressed with when talking with them by phone. From the moment I made contact with Alex, I was extremely impressed by his follow-through, pride in his work and sense of ownership and, most unusually apparently in this industry, his focus on customer service. In addition to my interest in the work itself, my big concern was also the timeline. We were out of town at the moment and in four weeks, we would be heading back home with our FOUR dogs. Doing any kind of landscape project efficiently with four dogs who needed to access the yard regularly would be next to impossible. So I asked if we could coordinate all of this virtually and finish the job within the four weeks before we got back in town. He accepted the challenge! He came out to our house literally the very next day, and we FaceTimed, and I explained my vision for the area and he shared his observations as well. After agreeing on the design plan, the scope of work and the price (which was not inexpensive but completely reasonable), he and his crew started work on May 3. After the layout, extensive concrete work, fountain build and plumbing, timers, plant and dripper installs, lighting installation and ugly tree removals were all complete, they finished on May 26 - just in time for our arrival home! Alex communicated extensively throughout the project and always kept me up to date on what was happening. They were very respectful of our property while we were out of town and they cleaned up meticulously. If I suggested an alternate idea that was a dumb one, he would very gracefully tell me why he recommended a different approach. And his design instinct was always right. After the project was finished and we were home, he came back with his crew several times to make a few other adjustments and tweaks to make sure everything was working perfectly and just as we liked it. I cannot say enough good things about this company - this level of customer service and attention to detail seems to be more rare all the time. When one of his other clients found a Sonos system on sale for half price, Alex told us to buy and and he'd install it for free. He replaced two cypress that didn't transplant well at no charge. One of my neighbors walked through and said "don't let my wife see this, she will want to redo ours." A UPS driver was delivering down the street and stopped at our curb just to say "I've been doing this route for almost 20 years, but this remodel is totally over the top." We began and completed our project with Alex in July of this year. We gave him some plans/ideas for what we were looking for and he made it happen on time and within budget. Alex will manage the whole project from start to finish. We had a complete remodel of the backyard, including hardscape, painting, lighting, irrigation, and gate/fence building. Alex wasn't pushy and had consideration for our budget throughout the entire project. He even added a couple of extra items at no cost. His crew was nice, showed up on time, and kept the project site clean every day. If I had questions, I could call Alex and he'd either come over or text/call me right back. When Alex and his crew finished the project, I noticed some of the newly planted plants were dying. This was during the heatwave, so I increased the watering but unfortunately, several plants didn't make it. A majority of the new plants didn't have issues, so I don't know if it is user error or I just got some bad plants. I'll be calling Alex to see if he's got a fix and update this review if we find a solution. Lastly, Alex is very energetic, passionate, and knowledgeable when it comes to landscaping. More importantly, Alex is trustworthy and honest which is rare nowadays. My standards are pretty high and I don't often write reviews or give recommendations, but Alex and his crew won me over. The beginning of our backyard Renovation journey was initially a long one. We were conducting a lot of due diligence (probably too much) when selecting the perfect contractor to perform the work. After meeting with 15+ contractors, we decided to put the project on hold. That is until we met Alex at AV Landscaping. Details of project - 900 square feet raised edged and top casted brushed concrete, 4 Trex accent walls, accent and bistro lighting, sprinkler rerouting, 200 Sq ft additional grass, stone rock planter bed, gas pipeline for fire pit, sail installation, etc. The process in designing our space exactly how we wanted it felt perfectly right when we spoke about it with Alex. My experience during our due diligence with other contractors was that, either their quotes marked up every single line item or, they seemed to lack the experience or professionalism. (For the sake of this review, I'll probably just stick to comparing it to the more professional landscapers because that was the standard that we set out for this renovation). Other contractors felt like they were making margin on the details - for example, the cost of demolition, hauling the trash to the junkyard, design, and other ancillary costs that felt standard in a backyard Renovation. When I met with Alex, he helped take our detailed but inexperienced vision and design exactly what we wanted for our backyard, in a realistic and practical manner. Once we went through that process, our quote was a fixed fee that came in well below all of these large corporate landscapers. DESIGN - The design process itself was refreshing because other contractors quoted initial design fees of $3,000+. We were able to create a visual and draw out what we wanted to do in our backyard. In addition to that, we visited stores with Alex, either in person or on video chat to obtain samples of the material for our accent walls, approve the exact brushed concrete and concrete color look that we wanted, assess lighting fixtures, etc. Beyond that, Alex contributed a lot to aesthetics of the backyard. After quoting us the fixed fee and us agreeing to it, he gladly added gas pipeline and water drip-line for our planters. EXECUTION - I would describe their execution as "fast-paced". Alex's team consisted of three bright and extremely hard working individuals. They were cordial, respectful, and very helpful (I ended up giving them each some take home money because they were so great). I would periodically review the progress and they would help walk me through what was done. That, and Alex was also frequently managing the project on-site. This type of project management helped complete our project in 2 weeks! I was blown away by the speed. Every time I came home or when I was working from home and looked outside, meaningful progress was being made. The guys were there 6 days a week, without fail. CHANGE ORDERS - as the backyard began to progress, we realized the accent wall fences (see pictures) were shorter than we envisioned. We quickly realized that we could use these accent walls as privacy walls. After placing and installing all 8 ft posts, Alex realized we would need 10 ft posts to create enough privacy - he quickly made the change and the team made the adjustments without delaying the progress (and at no additional cost mind you). As the backyard continued to progress, we realize there were little things that we wanted added, including a stone planter bed, plants planted in a variety of planters, sail installation, and other various changes. For each of these changes, Alex was kind enough to just charge us materials (seriously, like - we would either buy or it or we get the home depot receipt and reimburse). This helped bring all of the finishing touches together. COMPLETION AND MAINTENANCE - over the past couple of weeks - the crew has came by 3 more times - firstly, to finish planting our planters that came in weeks late, help installing the 200+lb fire pit, clean up some staining from wet dirt we spilled, but most importantly - all of the trash we created from unboxing ALL of our furniture (it was a lot). They made sure to come early on two separate Saturdays and make sure our backyard was ready for guests to come and visit. This is what put me over the top and why I am today writing a review. My daughter, my wife and I enjoying this summer evening outside in front of our fire pit as I write this review. We are truly so grateful for AV Landscaping. I can't wait to see what kind of equity this adds to our home when we eventually sell this property. read more

We just finished a big outdoor renovation project with AV Landscaping and could not be happier with the final results. Alex, the owner was super responsive/thorough from the beginning to the end. When we reached out to him in March, he was the first of many contractors to offer a real solution for a massive slope and drainage issue with a competitive quote. The project started out small with a French drain to catch continuous hill seepage as well as some sprinkler, light and plant updates. Then to capitalize on timing, we tripled the work with removing oddly placed planters, removing unneeded walls and gates, waterproofing additional retaining walls, adding matching hardscape (entertainment/bbq area, entry, sidewalk and 3rd parking space) plus re-hauling irrigation, plants and lighting-- basically transformed the entire backyard and updated the side yard and front yard. There were a few obstacles, as the property is 50+/- years old with tricky elevation changes. Let me just start out with how Alex is unlike any other contractor I have worked with before. He is EXTREMELY responsive, a great communicator, VERY fair on pricing, and a pleasure to work with all around. But the extra extra cool thing is that he would regularly posts video updates on my project! Like... multiple a day. I pretty much never had to ask Alex what the guys worked on each day because I knew I could just find out by watching his video updates (that he posts same day) and his extreeeemely thorough commentary. It's super cool!! Who else does that?!? Alex helped me out a ton when I was in a jam from the storms flooding my place, and was able to start working immediately just in time before the next storm, whereas other contractors were swamped and couldn't help me out til after the storm. I don't know how he does it but he gets it done! All in all, it was a wonderful experience working with Alex. We were looking for a landscaper who would replace all of our stamped concrete with pavers and replace all of our drains that had been slow to drain for years. Alex is a great person to work with. He was responsive since day 1, came here and sent us the quote in 3-4 days, we quickly realized he had knowledge and knew how to do his job. The quote was very detailed, which helped us decide what we wanted to invest or not. Another positive point is that he listened to what we want and proposed solutions based on that. Even though it was not a huge work for him, he made sure to be here and walk his crew through everything, make sure the job was done correctly. Another really good thing is that he thought about everything and they did the entire job ( instead of those contractors that pick and choose what they do). I hired Alex and his team to do our landscaping at our home a couple of months back. We had them rip out our front garden, take out a fountain in our front yard, pour some new concrete and stain the garage driveway and walkway. They also installed lights and a drip sprinkler system. The end product is pretty nice, but the owner is difficult to deal with. The work was good, but the price was a little steep. Alex gives you a higher price quote initially and then says he'll do it for cheaper to make it feel like you're getting a good deal. He hired workers who did a fantastic job. Oscar was a pleasure to work with and his guys were very hard working. The challenge is getting Alex focused and coordinating things on time. He's got a lot on his plate and doesn't always meet deadlines or show up on time. At one point, we were very close to completing my job, and I had paid for 90% of the project. They disappeared for over a week and completed a job at my neighbor's house, even though I hired them first. After I complained enough, they came back and finished our work. While there were some scheduling and communication issues, the workers did an overall good job and our yard looks really good. read more

Our backyard project required a bit of creativity to see what it could be turned into and Alex was great at listening to our ideas, finding the best way to implement them, and also making great suggestions along the way. Alex was the first landscaper we met with, and we immediately felt like we could trust him and he understood what we wanted to do. We didn't even get another quote, so I can't speak to how his pricing compared to others, but we absolutely feel we got an excellent value for what we paid. But the most impressive thing was the way he responded when something didn't go as planned. At the very end of our project there was an issue with how some tile was installed on our patio. Alex wasn't happy with the quality of the work, so he sent his team back out to completely Re-do the tile work (at his own cost). While I obviously wish the work was done correctly the first time, the true measure of a person is how they respond when things don't go right, and Alex proved his character beyond anything I could have hoped for. We asked AV Landscaping for several projects. Demolishing our old retaining wall and placing a new one, artificial turf, removing numerous brushes/plants and new backyard gate. Alex arrived to assess our project and emailed our quote. Once we agreed to the terms, his team started to do their magic. Our project maybe took a month and it was well worth the wait. Let me first say that Alex's crew did a fantastic job demolishing and placing the new retaining wall, artificial grass and backyard gate. Another positive was that they were efficient, respected our surrounding property and kept the area clean. Alex kept me updated regarding our project which is great because it provided a piece of mind. When it came to our artificial grass, he came over to select from different types of artificial grass. The pictures provided shows the before and after. I am 100% satisfied with his results. Everything came out nice and I highly recommend him. I can finally enjoy my backyard. If you look at the before pictures, I avoided looking at our backyard. It was an eyesore and I was embarrassed. We have future projects in mind and we will go with AV landscaping. Alex and his team were great! Our kitchen kept flooding every time it rained due to backyard draining problems. His team removed all the debris on the side of our backyard (where the water floods into our kitchen) and added concrete slabs with all new drains. They also water proofed the side of the house. They got the project done fairly quick. It took about 4 days. When everything was done they made sure to leave the backyard nice and tidy. Alex's communication was very good. He was responsive and answered any questions we had. His foreman was excellent as well. He was there daily and filled me in on the process of what they were doing (removing unnecessary sprinkler pipes, letting me know our gas line was old and eroded, where he was re-pipping our sprinkler system etc) Overall we had a great experience with Alex and his team and I'd recommend them. read more

My wife and I wanted to put sprinklers and grass in our backyard for our kids to have a space to play and for us to relax. While trying to get this project done through a different landscaper, it slowly became very difficult and expensive.
