I sought this place out specifically because the outdoor patio is really nice and I wanted to work outside for the afternoon after being all cooped at home during quarantine. They allow smoking in the outdoor seating area, though, which is just gross. I left pretty quickly because of the constant cloud of smoke blowing at me. The food is decent (if a bit overpriced) and the pastries are good, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the atmosphere in the future. Gag. read more

Staff has no personality. Clearly we had never been before, some help would be appreciated instead of blank stares when I asked what kind of bread they offer. It's great that it's open late and I can get a halfway decent coffee after 10 pm; but goddamn, this place is noisy. No sound deadening at I all - I tried to quietly read in a back corner, and could hear conversations clearly on the opposite side of the joint. Manager at this location is RUDE and inappropriate. A women came in with her probably 1.5 year old kid. The manager made her drink wrong and took forever to remake it. Wait, am I in Bellevue or Beaverton? Elton John is quietly streaming from outdoor speakers, barely heard over the bubbling water feature all that acts as a river border. The soft scent of honeysuckles, day lilies, and night blooming jasmine draw attention to the fire pit, complete with a circle of faux rock and firewood. The only difference I've found is that the parking lot is full of Subarus versus the standard lot of Lexus' and Mercedes SUVs. But wait...there's a BMW...and shut the front door, is that the rare Portland Suburban that I've heard so much about? Shhhh...you'll scare it away... Bob Loblaw. Blame it on my "seedy" Bellevue upbringing, but something about venturing to the burbs makes me exceptionally nervous - I instantly feel very claustrophobic, like I'm stuck in a cookie cutter. Ouch. It hurts to bend that way! Listen here - the coffee is just fine, and if you can deal with a playlist that has most recently played "Lean on Me" and Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me," the outdoor patio is quite enjoyable. But don't go here as an "escape from Starbucks" because I assure you - a coffee shop by any other name would smell just as formulated. read more

The shorter staffer appeared to make it a point to find a different way to be rude to each customer in line (try 4-5 people in a row). When a customer ordered four mochas, the cashier responded with "you want FOUR white mochas?" Geez, sorry we ordered anything other than black coffee for one. When someone wanted to split a check, she simply scoffed and asked her coworker in an agitated tone "do we EVEN do that?" When I asked her if I could get a cup of ice to ice my coffee, she gave me a tiny cup with enough to fill a shot glass, and made sure to include a healthy side of attitude with it. Their Iced Tea is $3 and straight out of an old jug in the fridge, and they charge $.30 for a clear plastic cup when they sell $4.50 pastries. Some of the other staff members exuded the same disdain for service also. Is it in their training to be as rude and unhelpful to paying customers as possible? The chai here is good - spicy flavorful. I also like the outside set up. They have fountains and even though it's next to the street it's pleasant to sit out. The baristas are really friendly too! The only downside is that the sandwiches were just OK. They were nothing to write home about, but good enough. read more

Alright, everyone is most certainly entitled to their opinion, but I have to respectfully wonder just what anyone who gave this place less than a perfect score could possibly complain about. I have been a regular at Ava's since their glorious inception, and even after the "Oh God! We have a 24 hour coffee house again that's not Shari's!!" honeymoon wore off, I am still nothing short of completely impressed. Aesthetically, this has to be the most stylish and yet comfortable coffee house Beaverton has ever known. Plenty of seating, warm lighting add up to a seriously relaxing environment where I could spend DAYS (a group of friends and I have already done so, actually) just hanging out and sampling all of their amazing coffees and herbal teas. (Might I recommend the Jasmine Pearl?) Oh yeah, and the free wi-fi is a nice touch! Outside you can kick back under some well-placed heat lamps in the winter, or during the summer months by a cooling waterfall / stream that circles half of the grounds proper. I cannot even begin to count how many hours I have spent with friends outside of Ava's...the entire property makes you feel welcome, and leaving is often carried out with substantial reluctance. And gosh darnit-all to heck if they just don't have the nicest staff at all hours to take care of you! They are always quick with small talk and suggestions on the more exotic of coffee flavors (some not even on the menu...) So let's recap: 1) Open 24 hours 2) Amazing lounge / outdoor seating 3) Did I mention it's open 24 hours? In BEAVERTON?! 4) Flavorful and aromatic coffee and tea 5) Seriously, guys...it's open 24 hours! That's an entire day in the Julian calendar! 6) Free wi-fi 7) Someone told me they're open 24 hours, too... 8) Fun, friendly and engaging staff 9) I mean, where are you going to find another place that's open for 24 hours? 10) Good times. I'm all about good customer service, at the same time I don't get mad about customer service very easily. So far the two times I have been here I've been confronted by extremely rude workers. Just now the Asian employee just took an order from the person in front of me and so I asked if he took orders for sandwiches here and he responded "no I'm too busy right now" without making any eye contact in an extremely condescending tone. I'm sorry that he can't keep two orders in his head and or make two sandwiches at the same time. I guess they don't hire people here based on multi tasking skills. He is the same guy who I asked if he could refill the water pitchers and ignored me for 10 min while helping customers that just arrived. This place has filled the gaping late-night coffee void that Starbucks left in Beaverton when it started closing its Town Square doors at midnight. Thanks to Ava, the Beav's police officers and students still have a place to go at 1 a.m. for coffee. I wish this place had existed back when I lived in Beaverton, lookin' for caffeine with friends past 10pm. The pastries are delicious and fresh with a very nice selection. The coffee was expertly poured by very friendly baristas. The space was... weird. It was like a cross between a coffee shop and a furniture store. Since I'm not smart enough to figure out how to make my phone a mobile hotspot for my laptop (shut up) and not all things can be done on the internet via my phone, I like to find nice little coffee shops with FREE wifi to do what I need to do. Ava is a great little place in Beaverton that not only has free wifi, but the surroundings are comfortable and the staff is friendly. Parking - not awesome. It's not the worst I've ever encountered, but certainly not the best (hence the 4 starts instead of 5). I finally got an hour to myself today so I figured I'd stop in here, grab a coffee and check my email. So here I sit. I have yahoo email. I love my yahoo email. I've had the same email address since I knew about email, i.e. a very long time. I have my spam filter set so spam is sent to a different folder since occasionally something I actually need to see goes to spam. I learned this when I applied to work/volunteer for the YMCA and didn't hear back from them for a week. First I thought - holy crap, what in god's name does it take to teach a friggin fitness class at the YMCA? I promptly did the Village People YMCA hand gesture over my head to show my enthusiasm. Then I checked my spam folder and voila! Needless to say, I now occasionally comb through copious amounts of shite to make sure I'm not missing anything. Sam. Say yes to a 24hr coffee house with good pastures and sweets! They have amazing coffee and latte selection for you early birds and night owls. I make sure that I try something different every time I go here. It can get crowded during early evening of a weekend. They used to have performance artist for weekends. I'm not sure now. I've only been there after the world starts to snore. I like the place after 1am. It's calm and quiet. On early fall it's good to lounge by their outdoor fireplace. Feeling the cold and crisp breeze on your skin without a jacket while sipping a Mexican hot chocolate. The surroundings are pretty kept well. There's barely any trash or bums that are loitering the area. It feels safe. I feel safe. If you want to study and have Internet connection at the same time, this is a good place to sit and focus on your tasks. I've seen a lot of people doing it. And I would assume that there are ample electrical outlets for your wires. When I feel that I'm on a slump, I normally go here to a quick pick me up slice of cake. Rarely pastries, but they are equally delectable. You should try it for yourself. read more

Well, I came here for a beverage and some web surfing. The place was packed (it often is) and I couldn't get a table near an outlet. It was warm enough outside so I took an outlet-adjacent seat on the patio. Most people there were spillover traffic from inside. Not before long, a party parked itself behind me. Loud, obnoxious and worst of all smoking, though they were well within ten feet of the doors. Not long after, the baby one of them was carrying started shrieking, with little attempts made to quiet it down. I realize you can't easily stop a crying baby, but you are outside and can at least walk it around, away from others, for a few minutes. Especially with the sun shining. The table to my left had a well-read newspaper and a pile of napkins on it. From the jacket in the chair, I assumed that it was someone who had just stepped inside to the restroom. An hour passed, during which a stiff wind kicked up, sending the newspaper and napkins everywhere. Another half-hour passed, and finally the customer returned to retrieve his jacket, ignoring the mess strewn about courtesy of his unattended paper items. Ava's is a nice setting in theory - it's a beautifully designed spot and I rather like that it is a bit out of the way. Even with rush hour traffic on Hall, the noise isn't that much of a negative factor; but I find the discourteousness of the client base a bit hard to tolerate. I've noticed other Yelpers commenting on the unfriendliness of the staff, though I've never experienced it. It's the clientele who make me not want to return. Edited to Add: I decided to revise my review to take the place down to one-star. The (pretty) patio is clearly completely overrun by smokers (both cigar *and* cigarette - apparently this has become a quasi cigar-lounge, given how many I've seen the last couple of days). Ava's website claims it is "environmentally friendly." Try breathing the air outside the doors and telling me that. They can and should ban it, the stench is puke-inducing. read more

First time going here this morning to meet a friend at the location here in Lake Oswego. Price point is medium to high. Breakfast sandwiches are a little over priced because bacon and cheese are considered add ons which puts the sandwich price at about $10. While waiting for our sandwiches, the coffee and tea came out right away. The sandwiches took about 8-10 minutes. There were no open tables as they were all taken by single individuals sitting at 4 chaired tables drinking a coffee and on their computers. What they're missing here badly is a bar area along the window so individuals can work and not take up full tables. Just an idea!! All tables are spaced 6 feet apart which is great however some of the policies regarding masks are completely ridiculous!! So once we picked up our coffees off the bar we weren't allowed to remove our mask to drink them. The gal immediately yelled at us to keep our masks on while waiting. We stood at least 8-10 feet away from anyone sitting at a table while we waited for our sandwiches to be made. In the meantime, our coffees were getting cold. No stoppers were placed in them and we weren't aware of this ridiculous policy. If this is the policy of this place then they should have the food out at the exact same time as your coffee comes up so it's warm. I asked the girl working there if she can keep my coffee warm under some lights or something until the sandwiches came up and she said no. "Sorry that's our policy!" She had an attitude and obviously doesn't appreciate the customers that are making her job possible!! We spent close to $35 for two drinks and two breakfast sandwiches. They need to make people aware of this policy so that they have a choice in the matter. If I would've known this I would've made sure that they waited to make our coffees before they were finished with the sandwiches. Especially because it takes them so long. It makes sense doesn't it? Once the sandwiches were ready a table came opened, lucky us!! I asked the girl if she would mind to have someone wipe it so we could have a clean table. Especially in these times of Covid. A young gal came over with a spray bottle with a hard nozzle squirt and sprayed right on the granite table which splashed right up on us, instead of spraying the rag away from the table and then wiping the table. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! No apologies, nothing. The manager and owner need to have better training here at this location and maybe rethink some of the policies they've put into place. We're working professionals and I would never recommend this place to anyone with this horrible first time experience. read more

And sadly, after two tries of the hot and cold variety of Ava's chai, I'm disappointed. It lacks oomph, tastes watered down, and is just not that good. I would actually rank it below Starbucks. Le sad. Le sigh. I work down the street from this place, so I will continue experimenting. I love coffee but don't drink it too often these days, I'll report back once I've given it a shot (PUN ALERT DID YOU CATCH THAT). Ava a year ago was the bomb but recently it has gone down hill. The noise level has increased and the broadband speed has decreased. At times I can't even hear the person across from me because the yelling going on inside. The place has been taken over by kids that yell instead of communicate to express their thoughts. Plus the constant sound of cell phones bussing, ringing and being used is annoying. I guess common curiosity doesn't count in at Ava Roasteria. The broadband speed slows to less than dialup at times. 1 to 2 kbps download. Not even email goes that slow and it is topped out at 14,000kbps. Come on Ava do something about the abusive users downloading torrents or online gaming. There is such things as QoS on ports and sites. McMenamins is starting to look good now. At least their WiFi doesn't go to a crawl and I can have a beer while surfing the web. I liked Ava when it had better wifi and wasn't as noisy, hopefully this is only a temporary setback but until things change, I'm in search of a new coffee shop to hang at. read more

Haven't had coffee this bad from an independent coffee shop in a while. I grew up in Beaverton so I know there aren't very many good coffee shops to begin with, but they put soooo much work into this location that it makes me sad they couldn't make better coffee. Their equipment is ok, cleanliness around the machines makes me think that the baristas don't know how to clean or maintain their own equipment, and their pours are not the correct volume for what was ordered. I notice when baristas don't pay attention to detail it's because they lack knowledge, experience and training. This means no matter how good the beans are to begin with (which I don't think these are the best but not terrible) the coffee will not be good. I drink Keurig coffee some mornings at the office (yuk) and this is just as bad... Nice setup, great location, a waterfall!!! But nearly undrinkable coffee (didn't even finish my 9oz cup of coffee that was supposed to be a 12oz americano, no room). Might come back but only getting tea, they can't mess that up... hopefully read more

This place used to be a good hang out spot but things have changed. This didn't only happen to me but also to my gf who used to frequently go there. We always order the veggie sandwich because it's the bomb but recently it's been a disappointment. Who ever used to work there used to make it great but since they hired a girl who's probably about 20 years old with blonde hair, it's been gross. They ask if you wanted it toasted but it's not. Not sure if she puts it in the oven for 5 seconds or what but it's always cold and bland. Barely any garlic aioli if any at all and if you tell her it's not toasted she will argue with you and say it is. I'm sorry but if I say toasted I'm expecting a crunch of any type not a cold piece of soft bread. Please please get on your employees about this because if I'm going to pay over $9 for a sandwich I would expect it to be good and not want to regret it every time. read more

I was around the area, walking to Java Nation, and I came across this coffee shop, Java Nation was a bit of a walk, so I thought I might try this place. I walked in and the place was full, really full, something good MUST be here, not just the waterfall. So I looked at the menu. I ordered an Esp. Maccioto (AKA a real maccioto.) And the barista asked me "double or single" I knew at that moment that I had made a horrible mistake. I said double, because that is what a maccioto normally has. I asked about the beans, and the barista said "We roast our own." I asked where they come from and she replied "South America." Very vague. I asked if it was fair trade, and she replied "Yes, and organic" Organic coffee pretty much means nothing. Most coffee is organic because the people who grow it can't afford to grow it any other way. Fair trade is almost always a plus. The drink was horrible. It tasted rancid. I could just barely drink it, and only because I hadn't had coffee all day. The milk was sort of just spooned on top of the coffee, so after the milk was gone all that was left was horrible bitter coffee. No amount of cool waterfalls could make me want to try this place again. read more

I'm not sure what exactly it was about Ava Roasteria but I just couldn't get myself to like the place. I've been on the hunt for a nice coffee shop for a while now - a place that serves tasty quality coffee, a quiet spot for me to sit down and reflect on the brew that I'm sipping, and an good vibe from the servers and preferably the clientele. I didn't quite get what I was looking for - I showed up on a Weds afternoon and the place was packed and busy - I was able to find a table for myself but it wasn't the easiest. That's a minor point since it's nice to see any establishment get business during this recession. Regardless, I ordered a cup of coffee and a croissant to boot just to try something from their food case - the croissant tasted like it was from costco and the coffee was just mediocre. I think what got me the most is that the place looks great in the photos (kudos to the photographers who posted on yelp), but the inside was in a state of disarray. What made it feel uncomfortable for me in the end is that it felt like a soul-less corporate coffee shop trying to pass off as an independent spot. I'm not sure if any of this is actually true - it was just my impression. Bottomline - looked like the place had character but failed miserably in that field. Servers were nice and pleasant, but it didn't make up for the lackluster coffee (this is Portland people - come on!) and the unappetizing pastry. read more

It is always crowded here. People are in love with the 24 hour service and free wi-fi, but I find the place to be over-rated. The coffee and food isn't worth it to begin with. I like the fact that it's open all day and that there is free wi-fi, but that's about it. Having to fight through the crowd for some space and wait for a table to be free took way too much energy and time. I can name off so many things wrong with this place... Having already established that it's hard to find a seat (more so when you're with a group of people), it's noisy, with overpriced drinks and food (find yourself spending at least $4 dollars for a beverage), and a menu that lacks anything special. I give it one star for a cute exterior and another for the outdoor seating, but with the general wet and cold weather of Oregon, it's a rare occasion to be sitting outside. read more

This is quite the place for some serious late night studying. Free wifi with a good selection of caffeinated beverages and real food options. Nice tables and chairs; more chairs than couches. The battle for tables is a little rough (especially if you are coming with a group), but once you have found a space with an outlet...everything in the world is great. I would recommend bringing headphones for working as the cafe can get a bit noisy. There might be a chance that you would have to scout for a seat with an outlet option, however it is worth it. I see how the 24 hour aspect is convenient, but this place doesn't really do it for me in terms of ambience. The interior is a little stark, no soft chairs or couches. It is very clean, however. The bathroom is super clean. The wi-fi was spotty once which was kinda frustrating. The service is good not great. Every time I've been there, the staff has been unable to answer most of my questions about the food. It seems like the people who work there aren't super connected to the place. I will say that the sandwich I had was tasty and they were generous with the veggies, which I always appreciate. The coffee is tasty as well. Service is incredibly slow The coffee drinks themselves are great. The mocha is made from chocolate chips and comes in milk, dark, or white options. The service is incredibly slow. Like crawling slow. It seems like the owners are too cheap to hire extra workers, so the staff is stretched incredibly thin and can't keep up with the flow of customers. I had decided to reduce my star rating due to the smoking on the patio. It seems that the staff and owner don't care about the new Oregon law or about any of their other customers as they turn a blind eye to all of the smokers on their patio and next to the entrances to their establishment. Ava's is one of the very few 24 hour hangouts in the Beaverton area. In fact, the only other one I can think of is Shari's. Personally, I prefer to go to Ava's when given the choice. They have a good coffee and tea selection, a solid menu with some good meals/snacks, and delicious desserts that are perfect for sharing. The wi-fi has always worked well for me here-- this is a great place to study or do homework. If you can get a seat, that is. The service here is very friendly. Even when I wander in at odd hours of the night (or morning), the staff never seem annoyed. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and no one will hassle you if you sit around for hours. If there was more seating available, this would be an even better place to hang out. Unfortunately, they've probably got as many tables and chairs as they can possibly fit in there already. So, if you show up at peak time, be prepared to wait a while for a seat, or take your deliciousness to go. The upside is, if you end up here at 3am or so (as I often do), you will likely be the only person in there. Yay! read more

I've been a regular patron of Ava for nearly as long as they've been open. I'm on the road a lot for my job and find myself with hours to kill and not really able to go home. If I'm even a little close to Ava, I'm definitely grabbing my laptop or a good book and staking a claim on a table. The signature white chocolate mocha's are so incredibly smooth and delicious. On a cold winter day, nothing really quite warms me up like a mocha from Ava. They've also got a variety of loose-leaf teas to try. I haven't tried all of them, but the Ava White Tea blend has a really good, fruity, and fresh taste. However, the best part of Ava, in my opinion, is not just the awesome coffee; it's the awesome, awesome pastry case. Marble Espresso Caramel Cake. Strawberry Whipcream Cake. Fruit Tarts. Mini German Cheesecakes. Tiramisu. Just a few of the decadent desert options for you to choose. They've also got a variety of sandwiches and soups for your lunch or dinner needs. I've spend countless hours here, enjoying the coffee, food and wifi. Plus a nice place to hang out in the burbs that's 24-hours? Nice coffee/pastries and great alternative to studying at home. My only gripe is that there needs to be more power outlets for laptops. I hate putting mines on dim just to conserve power :). Gets 4 stars because this is open 24 hours!!! No worries about close time; there's simply none. read more

I had driven by a million times and never stopped in before. I finally had the chance to go last Saturday morning, so I got a decaf drip coffee. It was pretty good and I liked the atmosphere. I was really put off by the wait time. It felt like I spent ages in line and it didn't move at all. read more
