Pros - You can get coffee 24/7 here which is nice given that all the stores in the suburbs seem to close by 9 or 10. There are plenty of tables and outlets for working. The coffee drinks are pretty good and not too sweet. I am a fan of the dark chocolate mocha, which is made with melting chocolate chips in steamed milk and mixing with an immersion blender, instead of that syrup most places use. Plus, this was the only place still open during a few of the snow storms this winter. I appreciate the dedication to being open. Cons - service is incredibly slow and it feels sometimes like the baristas have no sense of urgency or desire to optimize their process. read more

By 9:10, I walked up to the bar to see if there was any progress with the sandwiches. They were confused and told me that they didn't realize there was a sandwich order. By 9:20AM, I still don't have a bagel with cream cheese or a chicken sandwich. The croissant was handed to me cold even though we asked for it to be heated up. No apologies. All around poor service. We just went here for the first time this morning. It was by accident as I wasn't paying attention as we meant to go to French bakery one building over. It was pretty empty at 9am on a Sunday. Zero interaction from the any employee besides asking for payment. We were standing in front of the glass area where the pastries are but the dude was not moving from the register to help us. The drinks were ok. The croissant was as good as you would get at Albertsons (chewy, bland and not at all flakey) and the peach turnover was flavorless. The Italian soda was good as it's a simple drink. All in all - I would not recommend. Bummer deal as the pastries are pretty expensive (almost $5 each) and it clear they are not made fresh. Also, for being in the Portland area you'd think they'd have gluten free pastry options because they have two large pastry display cases. They only have one option and it's a overly sweet coconut macaroon. I wish they'd outsource a few more interesting gluten free options like from Petunias or New Cascadia. A friend and I went here to catch up! I had a chai latte with oat milk, and he had regular coffee! Even though there were three people working, there was only on barista making the drinks so I waited quite a while for my drink! They have plenty of tables inside, but since it was a nice day, we opted for the outdoor seating! There is street parking available, but I usually park in the parking garage because the first two hours are free! Regardless of whether you are only parking for 2 hours, you need to print out a ticket and place it on your dashboard! This place is definitely worth checking out if you are in the Orenco area! read more

Surprisingly terrible... Don't waste your money. Went here yesterday with my wife and kids. Both of our drinks were not edible. My chai latte was so spicy it made me want to puke. It was so bad that I actually asked for something else (a rare occurrence). The guy told me they use Pacific brand chai and it is more spicy. He was kind enough to give me something else. I got a Carmel latte with half the amount of syrup and it tasted like the espresso was burnt. I described it to my wife a "floral burnt grease flavor." My wife got a Carmel latte that was really "syrupy." Pros- The interior is very spacious with modern decor. The location is right in front of Orenco station which gives easy access to the max. Great place to work or meet up with friends. The bakery item I had was really good and I would assume many of the other items are just as good or even better. They also offer freshly roast to order coffee beans for whole sale. Intrigued me enough to return. Cons- The coffee was embarrassingly bad. I will have to try a black coffee or something basic in the future because all three lattes (one was the retry) were just awful. It's a weird thing to note but the music playlist that was going while we were in there was extremely annoying. Not sure who picked the songs but it made me wanna scream. I live in the neighborhood and am a lifelong insomniac so I was stoked when I first saw that a 24 hour coffee place was open literally across the street from me! To say I gave them more than a few tries - at all hours, not just at the crack of dawn - and the benefit of the doubt - is more than charitable. But, oh my, what a disappointment. Not only did they cease being open 24 hours (with a shrug as an answer when I asked what time they officially close now, also, FYI - their posted sign now says they close at 1 AM, but I have seen them shut at 10:30 PM or earlier...) Worse still, they hardly ever had bread for the sandwiches when I would show up to order one as early as 10 PM. After this happened many times, I kindly suggested that they consider not advertising that they serve sandwiches 24 hours a day. This sentiment of mine was met with a such a steely look of death from the barista my blood instantly curdled in my veins. I said thank you and left quickly. (And then I whispered a quiet little protection prayer to myself on the way home, I don't mind telling you. Yeesh!) In reading almost all other reviews of this location, my experience does not seem to be a rare one. It really is unfortunate that restaurant managers cannot find or keep decent help anymore. I don't want to sound like I am a 90 year old but it's true - finding good customer service from someone who really gives half a damn anymore is like finding a golden unicorn with rainbows flying out of its ass. At this point, I'd settle for a jackass made out of cubic zirconia that shat out sourdough bread. At least THEN I could make a sandwich for criminy sakes! Boo! read more

I forgot to post a review awhile back for this place. We had a bad experience here and I was really worried it would be that way each time (2017 I think). However... until more recently this month (July 2019) we've been trying it again early mornings. The barista and cashier (he does both this early) is just fantastic. He's so friendly, and the coffee he makes for us (triple dark chocolate mocha) is delicious. He recognized us the second time we stopped in and the people in line before us he knew as well. This is becoming a favorite hangout of ours. First, their coffee tastes great to us. Second, their mochas and hot chocolates are made with real chocolate (dark, milk and white)- no syrup! AVA Roasteria also has fresh baked pastries and other baked goods. They have soups, sandwiches and salads also! This is OPEN 24 hours & is located right next to the Orenco Station MAX light rail station stop in Hillsboro, Oregon. WOO, finally I don't have to drive all the way to Beaverton just to have a table to study. Not to be bias or a douchebag, this place is awesome, said by me who has been coming to Ava for years. I came here on Friday night and it was quite and peaceful inside. I guess they didn't get much attention. Sad for business but I'm kinda happy that I don't have too much trouble to find a table to study. Friendly atmosphere was created by the happy staff. I'm not sure if many people had poor experiences with other staff but the ones on Friday were definitely not. Everything was designed exactly like the one in Beaverton, except the waterfall (I know it's sad). The bakery section seemed like they had more options than the one in Beaverton. I'm sorry if the whole review is about comparison between this location and the Beaverton one but isn't it the thing you wanna know? I like to come here on days that I work from home. The wifi is pretty reliable (sometimes I have trouble getting the splash page to load, but it works after a few tries). There are plenty of outlets and seating. There are so many options for coffee drinks and flavors. The pastries are always delicious (especially the strawberry cream cheese danish and the "Dad's delight" Persian pastry). The food menu is a bit pricey - $9 per sandwich. Also, I think this cafe could be much more environmentally friendly. They only offer disposable cups for in-house water, and they only have plastic disposable silverware. It would be great to see reusable silverware and cups to cut down on unnecessary waste. read more

You need to allow 5-10 minutes for any staff to approach, no matter how simple your order. Absolutely no signs of improvement over months I've been passing by, which fits with the generic "thanks for pointing that out" responses on here from the owner. Product is decent, but that doesn't matter cause you won't be having it if you're at all pressed for time. Last time I was here I was insulted ! 11/ 25 /18 Sunday 10:30 PM i ordered a double shot espresso machiatto. Its within walking distance of many condos and apartments. Many people bring their laptops in to use the wifi and complete their work.
