I like this cafe a lot. Very cute and charming. I love their pastries and desserts. They're always fresh and yummy. This cafe fits so uniquely in orenco station. Its within walking distance of many condos and apartments. Many people bring their laptops in to use the wifi and complete their work. Very similar to what you'd see in a Starbucks, but a different less commercial vibe. I'm very happy this cafe is in Orenco. read more

I came here for breakfast with some friends and had a pretty unpleasant experience. I ordered the veggie sandwich without cheese and without aioli. The cashier even reiterated my order. When my sandwich was up, it had cheese. I told the brunette barista behind the counter and she threw her hands up and snapped saying "I've got to get out of here." Then stormed away. When my sandwich was returned it also had aioli on it. I was too afraid that the barista would scream at me again if I asked for my sandwich to be corrected. Terrible service. She's clearly too flustered and susceptible to stress to work in service. I get that people have bad days but if you had done the job correctly I wouldn't have had to request a correction. Also completely losing it on me is unprofessional. The owners should probably find a new team member because she was rude, and she definitely scared me off. I was very impressed with their gluten free bread that does not taste GF. I had a yummy turkey sandwich and everything was very fresh. We enjoyed the outdoor seating as well. On a rainy day walking home I was hankering a warm baguette and a warm drink, so I stopped by La Provence. I've had some bad luck ordering coffee drinks from them so I decided to try out the Ava Roasteria across the street. DEATH GLARES as I walked in with my baguette and received even meaner service. I didn't mean to offend! As this is a walking destination for many people in the neighborhood and located next to a Max Station and many shops, I didn't think it would be a big deal and I couldn't really leave it outside in the rain.... I wasn't even gnawing on it or anything :) Guess it was a big deal, and the next time I walked by there was a sign reading "No outside food or beverage" Warm drinks seem to taste pretty awful when the people handing them to you are unfriendly and smug. :( read more

One of the best places for a coffee and dessert! Absolutely love the fruit tart. Love trying the different espressos offered. Or something iced with a sandwich- lots of options and display case seems to change almost daily. Love their breakfast bagels & sandwiches; have yet to disappoint. Highly suggest the chicken. Great staff- very friendly & personable. Come here often and staff always surprises me with knowing my drink preferences. 0.5 point deduction for needing more staff....seems like a 3rd pair of hands would help. read more

I come here a lot. In general I like the coffee. They could have more diverse food items, they're clearly an afterthought. But the reason for the drop in stars is the WiFi. Like most places nowadays, they have a terms of use splash page, but it is so frustrating. I spend so much time trying to get the splash to load and then it times out quickly. And it's not my device. I've used four different ones. Change the WiFi router system and you'd easily get another star from me. read more

I've been eyeing this outlet of Ava's Roasteria at Orenco MAX station while waiting for the 47 Bus. The MAX station is built of brick as is the high rise apartment building where this Ava's Roateria is located and is a bit matchy-matchy but attractive. My other thought when I went in for an Americano that it was too big, more like a cafeteria, and not at all like my preferred coffee houses that are smaller, darker, quirkier, and definitely mixey-matchy like Fehrenbacher Hof in Goose Hollow. Once inside, there was no one to greet me. I wandered down the very long counter/case space. It was 8:30 am, yet there were just a few trays of pastries haphazardly arranged in the cases. The pastries were more expensive than in other coffeehouses. Someone finally stepped out clear at the other end of the counter and shouted that he would help me as soon as he could. Why he didn't come closer and speak to me is simply poor form and evidence of poor training and some laziness. About 30 seconds later, a young woman stepped out, took my coffee order, and I left unimpressed. Americano was simply OK. The problem here is a newly-opened coffee shop business in an area of several high-rise apartment buildings not yet fully leased up. That's their target audience, not me. I'm sure everything will work out fine in the end for this business. However, unless I'm with someone who insists on coming here, I won't be back. read more

The Good: - Open 24 hours: Fantastic for the locals working graveyard shifts, or high schoolers who aren't old enough to booze with the older folk - Live music from local musicians, typically in the evenings - Located in a snazzy new development area The Uglies: - Temperature of their hot drinks is the equivalent of LIQUID MAGMA - My dark chocolate mocha tasted very watered-down...it didn't taste like there was much dark chocolate or espresso. Maybe my barista had an off-day? - Service was underwhelming: I was ignored by the first 2 employees behind the counter (notice me senpai!) - WiFi is spotty (not the baristas' fault, the modem is near impossible to reach as it is situated near the ceiling) I've been to the Hall Blvd location as well, and my experience was fairly similar. I'm a bit surprised how quickly this place grew to 6 locations (considering how mediocre the coffee is). I'll have to check back when their roasting machine is online. Might be neat to have some fresh beans made while you wait. On the bright side, Orenco has been stepping up their dining game. La Provence, Alotto Gelato, and 9 Dang Thai have rapidly opened shop here. There's also a Saturday market and New Seasons as well. The local area is shaping up to be a high density neighborhood that can be enjoyed on foot, which seems to be off to a good start. read more

I pretty much come here everyday before work and on my days off I live right around the corner. The location is convenient and the customer service is great everyone is so friendly there. A very hip place in a peppy neighbourhood.. They have a lot of options to choose from if you want to try frozen, espresso or speciality drinks..a ton of snacks and desserts... But for a roasting place...they should atleast offer the in house coffees they roast, you can buy the bags but not the brewed coffee, if you want to buy coffee, they just have ONE option and the guy at the counter didnt even know the roast. I was pretty disappointed with that since you get 5 types of coffee even at a gas station. I did end up buying a bag of their in house coffee and it did actually taste good...I only wish they offer it to customers who want to try it before buying a bag. read more

The male middle eastern man working behind the counter seemed to think he was too good to answer my question about where the water was but the rest of the staff was friendly. The best thing about this coffee shop is that it's close to a bundle of apartment complexes. It was only a short walk from where I'm currently staying. The only reason I give it a three is because it has a bit of a cafeteria feel. Besides that, its really nice. There are many snack options including gluten friendly ones. They make their hot chocolate with melted chocolate chips. Also, theres a cool moat of coffee beans at the barista's counter. Been there a few times. Typically you get service with a shrug. Sloooww. People working there have very little interest in customer service. Tables are always dirty! Had a breakfast sandwich that was mediocre, blueberry muffin not bad. I was with a party of 3 today and NOWHERE to sit because least half the tables were taken up by someone camping alone at table with 4 seats. Their laptop out and papers all over the table. This is somewhat typical there. I don't know how they keep the place in business when someone spends $8 for a coffee and a pastry and then hogs a table for hours. I wasn't the only one frustrated. Best VEGGIE sandwich in the area. The train is super convenient for stopping in on the way to our from home. My latte was nice. I found the wifi lacking, so maybe the meeting room is less practical. When the girl put a breakfast sandwich on the counter and called out bacon and ham I asked is this the corrected sandwich? she said what correct sandwich? I told her we have been waiting for 30 minutes for the sandwich to be made the way we ordered. she said, well what do you want me to do we only have one machine to make a sandwiches. I used to really like this place but it's been on a steady downhill over the past year. The quality of food/drinks has really gone down and the prices seemed to have increased. Also more and more items seem to be coming off the menu that I once enjoyed. The constant turnover of employees doesn't really help things either. I tried this place twice and had two bad experiences. I went yesterday and waited a long time in line (which is fine if the service makes up for it), however by the time I made it to the cash register the cashier was very flustered and being extremely short with me. I told her that I would like to order the veggie sandwich on Sourdough, toasted and a large iced water. She pointed to the end of the counter at a pitcher of water and a stack of dixie cups and said that water is self-served. I asked her if it would be possible for me to order a large iced water and told her that I would be willing to pay for the cup. She got very flustered and said that they can't do that. Umm.....okay.... thats weird. About 20 minutes later the person making my sandwich came to my table and asked if i wanted my bread toasted... I said "yes, please". In a couple of minutes he called out that my sandwich was done and when I went to get it, it was wheat bread (I asked for sourdough). I am normally not the person to write one of these reviews but the people that work here are so rude and they pretty much ruined every interaction so I am never coming here again. read more

What takes away 2 stars is the fact that the person working Wednesday evening (short curly hair and glasses) was extremely vacant when taking our orders, I wasn't even sure he knew what we were ordering, and overall was impolite. That was one thing I could forgive, but after a bit we we asked if he forgot about one of the orders after calling out two of them, (there's 3 of us) he just glared and said "I'm going to make it right now" but said this only AFTER we stood there waiting while he was taking another persons order, that was after us, and starting to make it. I love to come here and work as it has a lot of space to sit both indoors as wells as outdoors. The coffee selection is decent and my fav is the macchiato. They do make the proper strong macchiato shots with foam on top which is not available everywhere. What I would have loved is if they had some more options to eat with the coffee. Most of the times they get out of the sandwiches/snacks by the evening which is disappointing if I am hungry and want something to eat with my coffee. If I could give this place a negative review I would. I have been in the restaurant business for 14 years, as a server, bartender and in management and I have NEVER come across a place like this. Their staff is awful. Constantly doing nothing, lines are always so long because their staff screws off all day like it's high school. They are also the rudest bunch of little jerks anywhere. Every one of them! I have ordered the same sandwich, that I request to be made the same way each time and each time it's messed up. How is that even possible?! How hard is it to make a sandwich? Nobody can read. I have requested two sides of their pesto and two sides of their aioli to come with the sandwich, with the bread separate via Grubhub. Simple, common sense with to-go items, so the bread doesn't get soggy. Instead it's missing ingredients, the sandwich comes half made to the instructions... it's just mind blowing. Their vegetables done always seem to be fresh. The only valuable part is the pesto and aioli. How hard is it to make a deli sandwich with the bread in a separate box? Nothing about it is complex or a extra special request. Their staff is just super lazy, immature and clearly not that intelligent. Not to mention, if they wanted to charge me for the sides of pesto or aioli, it's a simple additive button. I would have paid more. INSTEAD, their staff has been instructed to decline my order when it come through, which makes it a personal attack for no reason. Something as a patron I do not deserve. I have never experienced that. Anywhere. It is the poorest version of customer service I can even think of. Your customers are your business and I order from them multiple times a week... just a coffee and a sandwich while working from home. This place could really use some efficient management and a better owner because their customer service is terrible. Coffee mediocre and their food is great, but never made correctly. I am one of a few people I know that have had similar experiences there. There are much better cafes in the area, that actually care about their customers.
