Heavenly Hero sandwich and soup of the day
Stephanie K.

Service was amazing. They were quick and kind. I would recommend a reservation. We ate at the bar and they had nice platter that straddled the bar ledge so your food wasn't too far away. The food itself was good. It was also the perfect amount for a nice lunch.

Had a wonderful experience, the food quality is outstanding! Got the Trio Mixed Grill of Chicken, Beef Tenderloin and Fish of the Day (seared Ahi Tuna) which was amazing. Also sampled the Avalon Salad and Gumbo, both very good. Enjoyed the patio after dinner which was quite large. Appreciated the wine list was well. It's not inexpensive by any stretch so I spend a chunk of change. Luckily because the food was really good I felt ok about the investment! My only negative was my sense they were under-staffed so the servers/bar didn't seem very friendly, seemed more stressed and rushing around. I'm chalking that up and expect it must not usually be that way given how cute the restaurant is.

We had a wonderful girl's lunch in Weston. MO at the Avalon Cafe! The day was beautiful so we sat outside on their covered deck which overlooks Main Street. Our waitress came quickly and was both super friendly and efficient. For starters, we shared the complementary bread and ordered the Baked Brie with roasted and fresh fruit; both were very good. Our entrees included Pasta Primavera with Julienne vegetables and chicken, Grilled Trout with herbed butter sauce and mixed vegetables, and their special which was Swordfish. The food presentation was great, and while all three were delicious, I think the Pasta Primavera was best. We also each ordered dessert! I had the special Snickers Cheesecake, while my friends ordered the Bread Pudding and theApple Tart with vanilla ice-cream. Very little was left on our plates! We had a great time at the Avalon and will be returning!

Full chicken pesto salad

One of the most chaotic experiences I've had. Even the waitress told the table next to us that she felt like she was in chaos. Came in on a Sunday for a late brunch, sat outside. It was insanely windy, so after about 10 minutes of trying to contain our menus, we went inside. We were seated in a corner. Thankfully we knew what we wanted to order, because our inside table was not given menus. We originally asked for a French 75, waiter came back and told us they were out. My friend ordered a coffee, was not offered cream or sugar. When we asked for our tab to split into two, our waiter agreed, but completely forgot, and was reminded after she saw me on my way to the bathroom. I ordered the large pesto chicken salad with a side of breakfast potatoes. The potatoes tasted fine, but the portion was small. The salad seemed a bit overpriced for what was offered--it was also very much drenched in oil. I actually left, after an entree salad and a side, pretty hungry still. I don't think I've had a waiter apologize to us so many times during a meal.

We visited this restaurant with a group of three people or Sunday brunch. It looks like there was only street parking, but we were able to park a short distance away. It does not appear to be wheelchair accessible as you have to ascend a moderate incline to reach the restaurant, then claim a flight of stairs to get to the dining area. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available. The indoor rooms are small, charming, and designed to be intimate and quaint. The outdoor seating is on a patio and overlooks the main street in Weston which is quite a nice view. On this particular day there were fans and the temperatures were perfect. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was delicious, and I appreciated the fact that the bacon was crisp and a serving consisted of four pieces, instead of just two as in many other places. The signature French toast was really nice with robust chunks of chewy baguette. My friend was very impressed that the eggs were scrambled soft as she had ordered. Evidently this is difficult to achieve. The roast potatoes happened to be slightly cool on the plate, but we're still very tasty. The iced tea slightly flavored with peach, which might be offputting if you're not expecting it. This is a lovely place to visit if you are looking for a casual, business, or romantic meal.

A must place in Weston they were able to host My party or 12. Service was awesome food Came out quick and was super delicious! Its an old house but it is really nice inside and spacious will come back when it's warm and hangout on the deck. We also ordered several bottles of wine.

Sweet little historical restaurant with wonderful food and great service. My husband and I totally enjoyed our visit there and hoped to return soon.

Grilled portabella mushroom sandwich

I could tell that the food wanted to be amazing, but it lacked somehow. The bruschetta was the best food we got, but both the sandwiches were unremarkable. Both me and my partner ate our whole meals but we decided we wouldn't get either of our entrees again if we decided to go again. Staff were incredible and seemed very knowledgeable about the specials and the menu items. It made our trip to Avalon very enjoyable. It was a cute little cafe that gave off small town comfy vibes. I would go for the experience. I feel like we might have just picked the wrong thing to eat and would be willing to try again.

Parade of Hearts brought us into St Joe. We were hungry and saw the reviews. We love places like…read morethis...what could go wrong?!?!? Well let me start off with the fact they are over an hour away from our home. Considering they have ruined us on any and all other burger and fries, it might become a habit. Husband had the Blackberry Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger. I do not on the norm like blackberries, but on this!!!! The blackberries sweetness stands against the strong overpowering blue cheese and they meld well to make a wonderful tasting combo. I ordered There Goes My Gryo.....how did they get a freaking lamb burger, a very lean meat be that juicy!?!? I dont know but with the peppers, tomato and onion made a fresh hamburger, might be good with some kalamata olive....but I am not complaining. It was delicious. I am picky on my fries and usually dont eat the full amount restaurants serve. I had to stop myself. They are more like a shoestring but not hard or crunchy. Seasoned wonderfully! My suggestion you go in there with a big appetite, grab lots of napkins and be ready to devour the best burger you've ever had!

Placed order within 2-3 minutes of walking in. Sat down at the bar and waited. The place looked well kept and fairly busy for a Thursday afternoon. Meal was ready in less than 10 minutes and it was delicious. I would say that they are higher priced, but the portion size for the price is solid. Personally little heavy for lunch, but I might try something else little lighter next time or just come in for dinner and try a shake because they look good also! What I ordered this time was delicious and I will be back and refer! Thank you!

She earned an A+ and her tip reflected that. That said, my friend and I were both extremely upset about the lack of options for lunch. Everything on the menu was brunch and the options for that were not great. It took us quite a while to finally decide on what we would have. I had the quiche Lorraine with sweet potato fries and a salad. The sweet potato fries were OK, but the quiche was cold and I ended up eating less than half of my food. My friend ordered the blue crab benny which came with home fries. Her potatoes were cold and she also ate less than half her food because she said she didn't like it. I will accept blame for not realizing J Wilson doesn't serve lunch on weekends, but the quality of the food is on them. When I come to Lawrence, it's almost always on a Saturday, so I will not be having lunch at J Wilson's again.

I had the medium rare bone-in ribeye for $49. It was slightly over cooked but not by much. I didn't like the taste of the rub/sauce on the steak as it tasted a little sour. I've never eaten a steak at a steakhouse with this taste. It was certainly unique. I loved the lump crab cakes though; very moist and creamy. The service was great. Our waiter was attentive and offered a free coffee cake for a birthday celebration. J. Wilson's has an average 4.3 stars on Yelp which is really good. However, the bone-in ribeye was underwhelming. I would rather pay $20-30 more for a more exceptional steak. P.S. my brother also could not finish his KC Strip.

My wings had chewy rubbery skin and just barely cooked. Fried pickles were lukewarm and breading was stale. Since they were busy, I opted for the self serve beer, but kept running into multiple empty kegs and getting charged for foam - requiring adjusting my tab. Second time. Not busy at all, but still took 20-minutes for our inattentive server to take our drink order. Took 15-minutes to get a beer and they never brought a menu. By then, I was absolutely not eating and ready to leave. Took another 30-minutes to get my check. My group stayed to drink and flirt with the server. Third time. Not busy, yet very slow (and unprofessional) service. I ordered a salad because I figured it's hard to mess up a salad. It was good. (Incidentally, I sampled one of my friend's wings to test whether my first experience was the norm or a really bad day. The wings were ok. Definitely had better but they weren't disgusting like my first trip.) Also had a beer. It took a very long time to get our order and the server rarely checked on the table (but they had time to shoot the breeze with coworkers). I tipped well-above what I felt they deserved because servers rely on tips; however, I cannot recommend this place. I get the sense that the owners are good people and the servers are friendly when you finally get to talk to them. I'd say they need more training. Not sure how long they've been around, but I'm amazed they're still in business.

My dinner tonight at Ten Penny tonight with family was one of those that failed to meet expectations. I should have heeded the feedback from my sister on the terrible experience that she had at Ten Penny a few months previously. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of choices in Leavenworth other than fast food or Mexican on a Sunday evening so I thought maybe Ten Penny had improved since my sister's poor experience. My family, 5 adults and two children, were seated just prior to 6:20 pm. There really wasn't that many other diners, the restaurant was half full at best. We ordered probably around 6:30 and waited, and waited, and waited for our food. Finally our server stopped at our table 45+ minutes later to let us know that they were out of French fries, of all things. What restaurant runs out of French fries? Isn't that a staple in American restaurants? The two kids meals were finally brought out with hash browns instead of fries. I really like the Pork Classic at Metropolitan Steakhouse here in Leavenworth so thought I would order the Ten Penny Twin Pork Cops, which is supposed to be center-cut and glazed smoky BBQ sauce. What I received, as can be seen in the pic was nothing like the menu description. Not center cut, no BBQ sauce. Simply thin, dry, grilled pork chops. I'll stick with the Metropolitan Pork Classic at Metropolitan Steakhouse. The server, Graham, was very apologetic, and overall was a solid server. I did get comped 50% off on the food, so there is that. Just not a good experience though. Nice atmosphere/ambiance, bright and inviting.

Though we didn't sit in the restaurant proper, the magic of modern technology (a wee QR code) brought the feast straight to our table without missing a beat. Cut into perfect little circles for sharing--though truth be told, I was tempted to keep them all for myself! At $8.99, it was a steal fit for a thrifty lass. Next up, the Scotch Eggs ($8.99)--two glorious hard-boiled eggs, lovingly wrapped in sausage and fried to golden perfection. If there's a food that makes you believe in miracles, this was it. Absolutely divine! And, of course, what Irish outing would be complete without Fish & Chips? At $14.99, the cod was fried to crisp perfection, and the zesty remoulade gave it a delightful kick. The fries were standard, but let's be honest, we were too busy savoring the rest to mind. With the warm pub atmosphere and proper Irish offerings, it felt like a slice of the Emerald Isle right there in Weston. Sláinte--we'll be back for more the next time we are in the area!

We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.

Him and his staff's attention to detail, outstanding service, on top of incredible food should bring every Michelin Star, DiRona award, and James Beard award. You'll find very few restaurants in Kansas City that bring this quality, enthusiasm, and detail. The Hearth Experience elevates it even further. It was great seeing the same staff in the open concept, French Brigade kitchen after a year plus. You've got to be doing things great in this difficult industry to maintain that staff dedication. Plus on top of this Chef Longres is always keeping an eye out for kids and brings them back into the kitchen for a truly personal experience. We arrived at about 6:30 on a Friday and it was pleasantly full but not crazy. I had reservations, obviously. The staff had all signed a nice postcard on the table to note his birthday. After we put in our drink order (he got an old-fashioned and I got a Dr Pepper, since I was driving), our server brought over two bottles of Prosecco, one being NA since she wasn't sure if I drank or not, and offered us a toast for his birthday. I thought it was a nice gesture. They ask that you put in your full order at the top of the meal so they can pace it properly. He got their gigantic pork chop and I got a perfectly cooked and delicious KC strip with the creamiest mashed potatoes. I saw half butter and half cream and I thought, that's for me! Lol. That wasn't a cheap entree, but it did include a sauce (I got béarnaise) and a choice of side. I took more than half of my meal home. At that point, she brought out the dessert menu and Kyle decided on the flourless chocolate cake, which is one of his favorites, but that he often doesn't get at a restaurant because so many restaurants buy their stuff from Sysco now. And holy cow, it's the best dessert I've had in ages! A great reminder of how good a flourless chocolate cake can be. Anyway, I definitely would recommend Acre.
