Pros: Open weekends, large selection, fair prices, helpful staff. I like there hardibacker better than the one from home depot, the price is a little bit more but it seems to cut better. Quick delivery on orders. Cons: Only 1 Thinset over priced, ultra flex is very expensive. fullflex at home depot is around $15 almost 1/2 the price. and for me it just feels better, smoother. I have been in the business for over 27 yrs. and a bit frugal for my customers. and i have to say even thou I'm leery of chain stores I must say I was a bit surprised at the knowledge of the sales rep. I would never use this place again! I feel that I was overcharged because I had their estimator come out and measure my floors for new flooring. He overestimated the amount of flooring I needed and I am left with four unopened boxes of tile. I tried to contact my salesperson and he never got back to me. Their estimator also thought I needed a sub floor, which was part of their estimate. My installer did a great job, and I did not need the sub floor. I found my salesman to be very nice before I paid him and not interested in helping me after. read more

I buy a lot from Avalon for my construction company, and everyone in this store is super helpful. They always answer the phone and get back to you right away, and are friendly and helpful. There are two salespeople that stand out- Fernando and Amber. Amber is super knowledgeable about tile, flooring, and radiant heat, and makes sure that you get all of the right components. If you have questions about what sealer to use or grout, she and Fernando never steer you wrong. If you're looking for something specific that's not in stock, she'll help you find it from a supplier and get it to you quickly. I've lost invoices and called up and she sends them over right away. Awesome service and friendly/knowledgeable salespeople. read more

Had a horrible experience with Avalon Flooring, no customer service and no return calls. the product (Brazilian Cherry Laminate made by Mohawk) was a disaster! they take no responsiblity or accountablility for what they sell. They refused to send anyone out to look at the floor or make recommendations on how to care for the floor. They tried to pass the blame to the installer.....the installer covered the floor with protective mats during construction. The floor was expensive for what it was. I promised the Bob, the manager in Cherry Hill that I would let people know how horrible their service has been. read more

Well it's almost a month now I still have brown grout! Now it's the grout company who is throwing me to the wolves just clean it! Wow it's not dirty it's discolored and we are still playing the game and I have no resolution! Thanks a lot Avalon for your concern! Oh and by the way I guess they don't feel responsible because the Philadelphia manager sounded annoyed with me on the phone then the Langhorne manager could not be really bothered. About our experience buying blinds for our house. Quick summary is that this is a middle man company which deals with other middle men, adding up to poor service, misinformation and taking 3 or 4 times to get it almost right after lots of prodding... As many folks have mentioned, Angela, the salesperson is very nice and tries to be helpful; the problem is that she simply doesn't know her products well and then keeps busy selling but wasn't able to be helpful once there was any confusion about our order. We were told they didn't have a blind in a kind which they did; she just never called the producer. When the folks came to install after 2 months after writing our contract, they didn't bring all the blinds, a couple were cut wrong. After installing some of them, they left some cords dangling all the way to the floor (despite obviously having little kids at home...) and installed many of them backwards (standard vs reverse rolls) despite it all being meticulously spelled out in the contract. Again nice folks, but not familiar with our products in depth, did not really review what the contract was instructing them to do, and when they didn't bring all the materials, they would just say "well that's all I could find at the warehouse in your name". If you want to have someone install blinds, make sure they are familiar with the products and know the details. As usual, that's what counts in getting it done right and done efficiently. read more

We just purchased a new home and our builder got all of the tile and flooring from Avalon. So we decided to go get blinds from them. Very nice sales guy. We set up an appointment for them to measure our windows so we could order custom blinds. They gave us a 2 hour window. I called the night before to confirm. Appointment time comes and goes. Nobody shows. Avalon admits they screwed up and forgot us. They promise to call the next morning and send someone out. Again, no call. We ended up ordering blinds elsewhere. I guess they did not want our business. read more

From the minute we entered the Wilmington, Rt 202 store we were 'steered' to flooring that was more expensive then we had told the 'salesman' we wanted to pay. We purchased a product because it is supposed to be waterproof and pet friendly. (We had just experienced a valve breaking off our kitchen sink and a flood of the floor.) When we opened the first box we see that you need to put something soft on the bottom of chairs and table legs, such as felt, so the floor doesn't scratch. What about the pets walking across the floor with nails????? It is supposed to be 'easy' to install. My husband does all of our house repairs and he has just restarted to lay the floor for the 4th time!!! I caution folks to steer clear of Coretec Plus XL because it is a nightmare to install and I doubt if it will hold up very many years of normal wear and tear of a family. (Very flimsy to the touch, nothing like the product sample we were shown in the store.) Most likely this product is not selling and the Company is offering higher incentives to the sales staff to move it!! 24 hrs after we ordered the product, I asked to have a sample at home, because I was having 2nd thoughts. The 'salesman' said that we would have to pay a 20% restocking fee because he had already ordered the product when in actuality we would have had a choice of this OR (BIG OR) a store credit for 100% of the price we paid. Beware of who you work with at this location. Some are 'salesman' and some are customer service salesman. read more

Avalon is not upfront with honesty and does not stand by their products. Bought an area rug for the bedroom. Started to fray after a few months. Called them to let them know. They asked if we use a Dyson vacuum cleaner on the rug. We said yes then we were told that Dyson is too strong and will fray rugs. Avalon denied all responsibility and liability. They should tell ALL CLIENTS not to use a Dyson if this particular vacuum ruins THEIR rugs! The Dyson is not ruining our inexpensive rug from Home Depot! read more

When you get here ask for Randi- she was fantastic! Very patient, full of ideas, and detailed oriented. I couldn't fully articulate my vision for my bathroom, but she got me. I have a small bathroom and ended up purchasing walker zanger tile in their 6th avenue collection in French clay. Although that particular tile line is expensive, Randi worked with me to come up with a design that was in my budget. Avalon has a wide selection of tile. Personally I usually do my tile/bathroom shopping at Home Depot, but if you're looking for higher quality products to add a little flare to your place then Avalon is a great place to go. read more

I had a good experience with two carpet purchases over the last two years working with Jonathan Maiellano as my sales person. I purchased four rooms of Shaw Caress carpet. The goods are carried widely in the area and when I priced them out Avalon came in the lowest. Jonathan coordinated everything efficiently and professionally. The fellow who came out to do the measurement fit one room perfectly so we had no excess. I did ask them for a recommendation for a vacuum cleaner (they told me to stay away from Dyson) and for rug cleaning. I was told that so long as I stayed within their recommendations the guarantee would apply. Jonathan was very easy to work with. read more

We had to select tiles and flooring for our new construction, 3 1/2 bathrooms.. talk about overwhelming. It took us 3 trips to get it done. We cannot thank Kara Braderman, our sales associate, enough. She listened intently to understand our design proposals, made excellent suggestions for improvements (have you considered this? What do you think of that?). She has great taste and pays attention to detail. She's also patient as we made some changes after picking out the cabinets. We highly recommend her. We recently had our kitchen floor replaced by Avalon. We are satisfied with the result, but not with their handling of our payments. Our complaint is that when the work was finished, no one asked us to sign off on it. Jonathan simply charged my credit card, which he had kept on file unbeknownst to me. I sent several emails, first asking for a call -- got none -- and then asking that they delete my credit card information from their files -- again no answer -- and asking for confirmation of this deletion -- again, got no reply. Avalon was responsive and helpful when seeking our business but presumptuous and unresponsive afterwards. Maintaining credit care info without the customer's agreement is a bad practice, as is charging a credit card without the customer signing off on the work. While the quality of the work was good, Avalon's financial practices are not, and for this reason we would not do business with them again. Elaine F. read more

Purchased a vanity here that cost us almost 4K. Paid a professional carpenter several hundred dollars to install it. Carpenter explained that there was a manufacturing defect in the drawers that he had to correct. For a new vanity at this price, that is unacceptable. Took weeks to get any feedback from Avalon about this complaint, and when I did, it was a defensive phone call from a manager named Judy who gave me a nonsensical explanation and the runaround. Also purchased tiles from them, but since their system is so antiquated (everything written on paper by one person) it was a struggle to follow up on the order since no one can easily locate your paperwork. Here's a crazy thought - why not have an easily accessible computer database (I believe these came into fashion around 1992)? Do not have the time or energy to deal with these people. Overpriced. Read the Yelp reviews before you go to Avalon Flooring on Delaware Ave!! This Avalon store does not know the first thing about customer service. I came here expecting to be provided decent customer service that includes knowledge on flooring and how to meet my needs as I have never purchased flooring before. Had I known that the sales reps do not know anything beyond inputting numbers in their inadequate computer system, I would have gone to Home Depot or Lowe's to purchase flooring and figured it out myself. However, as I was purchasing flooring for my entire house (2000 plus square feet) I decided to go to Avalon for their expertise. What I got was one mistake after another on virtually every flooring I purchased for my home along with attitude from both sales rep and manager. I won't go into every mistake because there were many. The most notable one was tile I purchased for the floors in my bathroom. The tile I picked out was clearly labeled wrong in the store. I had looked it up on the tile company's website to make sure of it. When I went to order the tile, the sales rep brought the store sample with him to input it in the system, I told the sales rep do not order it with the name on the label because it is labeled wrong and I proceeded to give him the correct name. The sales rep said no problem. Sure enough when I go to pick up the tile the day before installation, the wrong tile had been ordered. At that point I had the choice to either cancel my tile guy and wait weeks for the correct tile to come in or take the wrong tile. As it was 4 pm the day before installation, I could not in good conscious cancel installation when my tile guy would be losing out on a day of work for a blatant mistake that Avalon had made. In addition, as I was renovating my entire house, it would delay other things if I waited for the correct tile. I had little choice but to take the wrong tile. For their obvious mistake, the manager gave me $4 off the tile, which was originally $19. Wow! I'm spending close to $10K in your store and you give me $4 off 50 square feet of tile I did not order because your sales rep is incapable of doing something simple. All of the other mistakes were the result of extremely poor customer service such as NOT asking the right questions and NOT paying attention to their job. All of these mistakes could have been avoided if the sales rep really paid attention to the customer's needs and did his job as required instead of just punching numbers in a computer system. I did get another $200 off for the other mistakes, but the damage was done. Instead of realizing that this customer was spending close to $10K in the store and really compensating me for all of the troubles they caused, they gave me $400 off of my total order, which is less than 5% discount ($400/$9,000.00). I made the decision to cancel the only order I had left which was 550 square feet of wood flooring for my second floor in the total amount of $2,800.00. I was not giving them any more of my money and could not afford another mistake. The good news is I found even better flooring at Floor & Décor at a better price, quality, and customer service. I purchased porcelain floor tile and glass back splash tile for a kitchen renovation we are doing. I wouldn't say that my initial customer service experience was extraordinary but I did receive timely attention and was able to make choices I was happy with. Then why 5 stars you ask? Because when we had several problems with our renovation (not because of anything Avalon did wrong), Kevin, the manager and salespeople Jonathan and Ashley all stepped up and helped us when we needed help. Quickly, kindly and responsively. When the floor tile we purchased elsewhere for use in our bathroom renovation turned out to be unusable because all of the tiles were slightly bowed, I rushed to Avalon and with Jonathan's help ended up finding an alternative tile I liked even more, that cost even less and they got it for me in just a few days. When we went to install our glass back splash we discovered that 4 of the 19 boxes were the wrong color. Kevin interceded and got the manufacturer to ship replacements directly to our home that arrived in 2 DAYS! And when that same glass tile included some defective tiles, Angela stepped up because both Kevin and Jonathan were on vacation (even though she didn't know me and had had nothing to do with this order) and unbelievably, replacement tile was on my doorstep THE DAY AFTER WE TALKED! During Christmas week!! How did she do that? So thank you, thank you to these three great employees. They worked as a team and if and when we need more tile, Avalon it will be. Service BEFORE a sale is wonderful, but this kind of service AFTER a sale is more and more unusual. We found that kind of service at Avalon (along with a great selection of tile.) read more

Just picked up an area rug that had been on order. Opened it last evening to find two marks within the wool stands that are NOT a part of the pattern. Contacted the store last evening: no problem with exchanging this defective rug with another and will NOT be charged a restocking fee. HA - what a joke!!! According to the sales reps and the store manager, these marks are within the strands of wool - not a stain and therefore if I wish to have it replaced a restocking fee WOULD apply. I was about to purchase a second larger area rug which would match the first. Salesperson trying to write up a discount on the second rug. Seriously, purchase another defective piece of garbage when this company would not honor their word nor take into consideration a fair and even exchange. Don't waste your time, money or confidence in an outfit like this. Resembles practices of Circuit City and we see where they aren't anymore. This company will eventually put itself out of business with shady, dishonest and greedy practices like these. read more

The salespeople are helpful, not pushy and very knowledgeable, with customer service and satisfaction as their primary goal. The showroom is clean and well stocked with a tremendous variety of flooring. When our initial salesperson, Kara, who is excellent, was not on duty, one of her colleagues, Angela, equally excellent, assisted without hesitation. The estimator and the installation service were also both terrific. Everyone was unfailingly polite, on time, professional and, again, put customer service as the top priority. I received a phone call when our order arrived, setting up an appointment was easy and the quality of installation was top notch. In fact, due to an unanticipated issue with our sub-floor, one of the installers called the Avalon home office, a representative of which then promptly called me at my office during installation to recommend (correctly) a change in the original installation plan, for which the company provided a credit because the suggestion resulted in less work than anticipated.
