Im a contractor that gets almost all of our flooring from Avalon in Wilmington (202). I just want to give my thanks to the staff in the early am for their efficiency. Terry and Anna helped us transform our new home and we're extremely pleased with the result - everything turned out beautifully. My family and I were there this weekend looking at carpeting and wood floors, we spent at least 45 mins and NO ONE bothered to ask if we needed assistance. I can see if they were packed and busy, but they were not. This was definitely a red flag for us and after reading some of the reviews seems to be a pattern. I went to the store to take a look at tile for my bathroom. Someone from the back came out and asked if I needed help and he said he would get someone. After looking around for 10 min or so I went to the desk area and a lady who said she was a designer asked if I needed help. She showed me around for a few tiles but did not have a very friendly or helpful vibe. I explained what I was looking for, a white tile with warm undertones like you see on HGTV, not gray or dark undertones. She later insulted my comment and said they don't always know what they are doing. After I explained what I wanted to do with the tile (replace the tile in my bathroom on the walls, she said well no one tiles the entire bathroom. Well, what if that is what I want to do? If you are trying to make a sale, it would go over much better if you hear what the person is trying to do, and help them with recommendations. She also looked me up and down as if she was judging my clothing and my budget because I was wearing comfy clothing. She even made a comment twice about, "I don't know what your budget is...." almost judging that I could not afford what we were looking at. I felt very unwelcome and judged, not a pleasant feeling when trying to get ideas for a future purchase. Needless to say I will be going somewhere else for my bathroom remodel! read more

I walked in with my husband looking at tile flooring. After looking for 5 minutes all over the store with something specific in mind a women asked is we needed assistance after we agreed she said she would send someone over. After waiting and watching the salesman wander around avoiding us we walked out. This was after being served up to our eyeballs at Bob Wagners Flooring America we're we took home a sample, and a general idea of the work involved with a general price. Very disappointed in Avalon. I purchased Luxury Vinyl Tile at Avalon. The samples in the store were exceptional but now that it's on the floor of my rec room, I love it even more. Total joke. Went in to purchase the following: Two different tiles for a master bathroom renovation Another tile for a different bathroom renovation Kitchen backsplash tile And vinyl plank flooring for an entire home renovation I run a lot of renovations for rehabs and rentals I own, and this place came highly recommended by my tile guy. I was excited to make this place my new go to place for floor, kitchens, and bathrooms. I walk the entire store, looking at things, taking pictures, etc. Some employees were randomly walking around, but a majority were hovering around the service desk loudly talking and laughing about nothing related to tile. It might be helpful to greet customers and ask them if they need help? After 15 minutes of walking around with no one offering assistance, I figured it would be easier to just go somewhere that wanted my current and future business. I actually had all my items picked. It would have been easy to put in the orders and probably fairly quick, as I had well developed visions for each thing, but it was frustrating at that point to give them my business. The kind of service I received (or lack thereof) did not match their prices. Back to the drawing board. read more

After looking through carpet for more than 30 mins no service, what kind of retailer doesn't greet guests or at least checks in.

I had a great experience with Avalon Flooring in Wilmington. Their sales department helped me through my weeks of indecision with patience and suggested several less expense alternatives that I didn't initially notice. They returned my emails and calls promptly and were always ready work with me. The installers were craftsman. They went above and beyond by installing the hardwood around my in-process kitchen remodel. They were so friendly and extremely professional. The installation process was quick & easy. Communication was great. Oh, and the best part is the my floor is absolutely GORGEOUS. read more

If zero stars was an option, this would be my rating. After waiting 7 weeks to get new carpet in my family room, the installers punctured a hole in a heating system pipe that ran under my concrete floor while nailing tacking strips to a concrete floor. I understand that accidents happen; however, the install manager offered no assistance to try to find a plumber to fix the damage and stated that the floor must have been installed improperly for this this to happen. He said everything to make me believe that this was not their error and never accepted responsibility for it or that they would pay for the repair. I then contacted the store manager who offerred nothing more. She pretty much deferred to the installation manager although when pressed about who is going to pay for the repair she did say IF it was their error they would certainly pay for the repair. After calling several plumbing companies I found one that could come that afternoon. I had no heat because I had to shut down the main water source to the heater. The install manager called me and said that he was sending someone from his office to look at the damage. When the man arrived he exacted the sentiments of his boss and did not believe that the leak was caused by the install. Even though the plumber had already arrived and showed him and explained the damage and the puncture. This guy asked the plumber to step outside so he could talk to him privately while in my presence. I found this unbelievable and told him that anything that needed to be said needed to be in my presence. The plumber was also astonished by this request. He stormed off and went to his car. A bit later he came back and said that they would pay for the repair and that I owed the balance on my carpet. I could not even believe he was talking about what I owed them when they had just caused a major plumbing leak in my house!! The carpet install had to be delayed while the leak was fixed and I informed him that the balance was due upon completion of the install. I then received a call from the manager who gave me a new install date. I told him about his employee asking to step outside and speak to the plumber without me present. He did not have a problem with that. I am a reasonable person, not one who just writes negative reviews at the smallest thing. I just wanted to alert other people to this unbelievably poor customer service and save yourself some hassle. They totally do not stand behind their work and do not take responsibility for anything. Do yourself a favor - go someplace else. read more

We started planning a master bath renovation in our old 1935 N. Wilmington Colonial home in early 2020 as a result of old galvanized pipes in the floor that had to be replaced. We had purchased a beautiful farmhouse design floor tile to match the original 4x4" basic white wall tiles but then the project went on hold when COVID hit and our contractor wasn't doing any interior work. Fast forward to summer 2022 and we were ready to kick start the project again. In the interim months, we decided to gut the entire bathroom to install a walk in shower and remove the old tub. We met with Shuktara Sen in the Avalon Flooring Wilmington showroom this summer and she helped us find a beautiful white 4"x10"subway tile with a antique look to align to our nearly 90 year old home. She also found a denim blue accent glass tile that picked up the same color blue in our patterned blue floor tile. We haven't installed the tile yet (we hope to be done by mid-September) but we think it's going to really pop and appreciate Shuk's design consultation. She was very helpful and we found just the right tiles to finish the old world charm look we were going for. Can't wait for it to be all finished! read more

Not sure about other positive reviews but do yourself a favor and steer as far away from this place as possible. Selected tiles for a bathroom renovation which were 'in stock' 26Feb2017; contractor came in to pick up tiles 28Feb and no tiles to be had. Was informed it would be 2 weeks. Existing bathroom had been removed. More than a month later, still no tile. Not even an estimated date when they might be in. All paid for of course. Still no bathroom. The shower doors, and all bath fixtures have been occupying my living room for more than a month. To take a real bath, I need to check into a hotel. Salesman won't return calls. No action from store manager. Called corporate office in Cherry Hill NJ and haven't heard back. RUN, do not walk, to anyplace else unless you enjoy spending a lot of time, at your cost, in hotels waiting for supplies that are never delivered. read more

One of the worst companies I've dealt with. I purchased subway tile at this location and was promised it would be here in 10 days by salesman Dave Gombar. I clarified this multiple times during the transaction even asking if it was business days or just days. Needless to say the tile was not going to arrive in time. I was very clear in my timelines. I told salesman if tile wouldn't be here in 10 days I would either purchase another tile that would or go elsewhere as my timelines were tight. When tile was not going to arrive in time, I spoke with Jason the assistant manager who offered to cancel the order with no penalty. I confirmed this later the same day with Tom. The order was not canceled. I asked at this location and at location in South Philly for a customer service #. Both locations told me there was not a customer service # or anyone else I could speak to. The owner of company responded to a Yelp review of South Philly store saying he would be willing to help and left s phone # but did not return any calls. read more

Wilmington, DE store: Carpet is great, installer NOT. He left the staples under the carpet going up the steps! I did not notice this lazy workmanship until a few weeks after install. We have a lot of flooring work to do throughout the house and don't mind paying a few extra $ for fantastic workmanship, this experience was not that. Avalon needs to screen contractors better in order to earn our business back. read more

Very , very disappointed. Was told Avalon was number one for laminate flooring by our builder. Went there and had beautiful sales experience with Ken Hornberger. Really knowledgeable and helpful! After our installation , there was a never used and never opened box of product that contractor told us to return. We ATTEMPTED the return with the original receipt and were told that it could not be returned. The manager refused to work with us. He had no intention of being customer friendly or helpful. Beware! We plan to do kitchen and hallway next with a laminate. We plan to stay far far away from Avalon. Just terrible! read more

Had flooring installed in Jan 2019, I will never use this company again for anything. They were over priced, but I figured I would get a better quality and installation if I paid more, unfortunately not so. The floor installation was delayed by a few weeks; I had to call them to find that out after taking the original installation day off. The contractors did not level floor as was requested and paid for (floors are still uneven), contractors walked through my house and into my garage took and used my personal tools with out permission, they sat on the arms of my furniture while eating their lunch, just to name a few issues. I called and complained to installation rep and he could have cared less. read more

While I did not end up purchasing from there, I did have a positive experience. Unlike Lowe's or Home Depot, there was a HUGE amount of tile to choose from. And it was not all high end tile,there was plenty of attractive, moderately priced choices. There were many staff available, but no one to run you over/pressure you. The only reason we didn't purchase from them was because it was 21 days for our 'quick ship' selection to come in. We should have chosen our tile sooner. If you have time, this is a great place to get your tile. read more

We purchased a large order of a vinyl flooring from Avalon on route 202 in Wilmington. Our contractor measured and purchased. He ordered 15% more than the exact measurements, to allow for the need for more cutting in odd corners. When the job was completed we had about 15 unneeded, unopened boxes that would be worth about $1000.00. Home Depot and Lowes will always take unopened boxes but Avalon said that because they special ordered this, it could not be returned. I got mixed messages - being told by one employee exactly how easily to return it and then another employee who told me the opposite. I was told by the store manager that 10-12% above your measurements is more reasonable. Really?? Bottom line - they will take NONE of it back despite the fact that it is in the boxes unopened and we simply have to eat the $1000.00 I will not give Avalon my business again and am posting this as a buyer beware so others don't get stuck like this. read more

Had carpet installed. Looks great. The only problem is that the installers damaged my freshly painted baseboard as well as my finished wooden floors with their box cutters during installation. I had to get out the paint again and go around and do a touch-up job. I think they were in a hurry to complete the job because the Avalon scheduler never relayed the proper contact number to them, and according to the installers they waited in my driveway for 1.5 hours. Both rooms were completed in less than 2 hours, and I was told the average time is anywhere between 3-4 hrs. So this tells me they did a rush job which in turn led to careless & sloppy workmanship. No one from Avalon has contacted me for any kind of follow up. They took my money and that was it. So I do have an excellent carpet, but in addition to the monetary price I paid, I also paid with damage to my house. read more
