I have been a loyal customer to this store since graduating from the U of D in 1974. At that time…read moreit was a family business owned by the original Cohen brothers. I dealt with Arnold, a son of of one of the brothers. He was an excellent salesman and most accommodating. I referred many of my friends to this establishment as they, at that time, carried quality yet affordable pieces. I purchased an office set from this company in 2003 and dealt directly with Mrs Cohen herself. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the delivery of the order because of impending major back surgery. Mrs. Cohen extended me the courtesy of a full refund knowing my previous history of being a loyal customer. Upon recovering from the surgery, I did re-order all the pieces and was finally able to accept delivery of such. Again, the pieces were of quality and affordable. To this day, that set has served me well. In about 2008, I purchased another bedroom set from Cohen Furniture. Unfortunately, ownership of the company changed from a family business. Fast forward to about 2008 when I purchased yet another bedroom set from this company. I relied on my past experiences with this company, and I did not carefully check the construction of this new bedroom set. It appeared to be a beautiful cherry set but did not hold up well. The handles on the nightstands and the dresser were not quality and actually broke. I contacted both the store and manufacturer and they could not be replaced. Perhaps, it is just a sign of the times but I have noticed a definite decline in the quality of the pieces they now carry. I spoke with the manager and he stated that it was time to get a new set. The life of the set was only about 7 years. JMHO, but quality furniture should have a much longer life span. In fact, there are family pieces that have been passed on for 2 generations. My niece now has my complete Grandparent's "Waterfall" set (circa 1923) consisting of a large table with 2 leaves, 6 chairs, a hutch , 2 buffets and a small half table. It remains in excellent shape despite having traveled from NJ to DE, as well as from DE to 2 locations in Chicago, IL. As with many products there is simply not the excellent craftsmanship these days. I do realize I am old school in believing "you get what you pay for". The cost of the last bedroom set was significant but sadly the quality just wasn't there. I realize that millennials have a much different take on material objects and that they would probably find the last set I purchased acceptable. Also, I have noted that Cohen's has 2 outlets. One in located in the New Castle Farmer's Market and the other is on Kirkwood Highway where Ethan Allen was previously located. I am currently in the process of moving and once again shopped at Cohen Furniture. I dealt directly with Washam and was extended full courtesy. I found him to be knowledgeable about the wearability of fabrics and construction of the pieces I considered purchasing. The store seems to have a wide range of merchandise at different price points.
