This was my first visit to this salon. I never had a good luck with a hair stylist before but this visit has changed that experience. My stylist was Tamica ( probably not the right spelling). She is an excellent hair stylist. Her professionalism was beyond words. The quality of her work and her attention to detail was extraordinary. She did exactly what i wanted and gave me my desired hair style. The salon itself has a great ambiance all around and they also offer complimentary counseling before you take any decision. I booked my appointment 5 days in advance and was genuinely excited to try a new stylist because her works amazing. So I had planned for a balayage service that I knew would take 4-6 hours and made sure to take the day off work just for this appointment. When I arrived, the stylist told me she didn't have time to do my hair, and instead began explaining her personal situation and didn't want to rush on my hair. While I understand things happen and stuff comes up, it was really frustrating and disappointing to have my time disregarded especially when I had arranged my entire day around this service. My experience at this hair salon was very disappointing, I booked a service for root touch up and highlights. The "stylist" got it totally wrong, my roots were very light even though I had asked her to make them dark, my highlights not light enough and brassy... once she finished she kept apologizing and said she just wanted to be on the safe side and not go too dark on the roots or too light on the highlights (???) I made the mistake of going back again for a root touch up and specifically asked her to do as I said and make my roots very dark, told her I wanted her to do as I said and not what she thought. Same result, light roots and she apologized over and over saying I could go again within 7 days and she would correct her work and make the roots darker. When I went to pay, I was asked to pay an insane amount (I requested only root touch up and gloss), when I asked what I was being charged for, the cashier said, a hair cut, full highlights and some insane charges, the "stylist" had to come and correct the charge, over $200 less than I was told to pay.. DO NOT COME HERE. I paid $460 for them to completely mess up my hair. I have long, thick hair that's all natural and the stylist I came to said she was confident getting it to the color I wanted (light brown with absolutely no red). I told her if she wasn't confident with it, then I could just go dark but she insisted she could do it. Fast forward, my hair turned out dark brown with red hues. Exactly what I asked for them not to do. I asked for the olaplex treatment, meaning the olaplex chemical bonder that only stylists are allowed to use and instead they used olaplex no. 8 and charged $60 for it which I can get an entire bottle to use myself from Sephora for $28. The one they used in my hair is not the chemical bonder to help reduce damage, it was simply a deep conditioner that I have in my shower at home. They refuse to reimburse the $460, and I even spoke with the owner who wouldn't even let me finish a sentence. He was gaslighting and somehow managed to find a way to turn the result of my hair into my fault. The owner (Billy) is a scammer, and it's very clear that he could care less about customer satisfaction. He said he was looking at my hair through the cameras and he could see no red in which I responded, "because you're looking through a camera of your salon that has poor lighting." He got offended that I said that and demanded I talk to him with respect. I told him that I have every right to be upset, then he told me to leave. At this point, I didn't even care because I didn't want them to ruin my hair more, but Billy definitely needed a power trip. The girls who work there are not skillful enough to be working at a salon that charges the price that high end salons charge. JCPenny's Salon could have done a better job. I highly suggest a consultation, before an appointment, so you aren't shocked at the price!! $400, plus tip, for partial highlights on a chin length bob, 1/4 inch trim, straight cut. Asked for creamy blonde highlights, with no yellow/gold. Ended up a little on the yellow side. Definitely not the feel of a high end salon. While having my hair washed, I had to move my legs every time someone walked by, because there isn't enough room. Each station has a full length moveable mirror, with no shelf to put your purse or drink. There is a platform, at the bottom by the floor, where I put my purse, but it, and the ones next to me, had dust and hair, on them and I had an 8:30 am appointment! So, no cleaning prior to opening. The stylist can't tell you the cost, she has to go to the front desk, I suppose to ask the owner, or punch in what she's doing, then comes back with the verbal quote. She ended up taking $10. off, at the end, saying something about using "2 vials less of bleach" than what she thought? I see where other people paid the same for more complicated services. 1 yr. ago, I got a more complicated cut, full high and low lights, and paid about $250, or less. The stylist said they had a recent price increase?? This salon, and the services I received, were not up to the standards of a $400 charge. High end location, but not high end treatment. I see that other reviewers feel the same. Also, as a business owner, I am completely shocked, and appalled, at the way the owner responds to reviewers. I made an appt after a year of waiting through Covid. I am half black and half white with large ringlets curls. When I arrived the stylist Lola told me she knows how to do my type of hair. I repeatedly told her my hair lifts fast and she repeatedly told me she had to take her son to his Dr appt and could not be late. So she was going fast but then realized that the top foils got super blonde (I have dark brown hair) and the. she panicked and asked another stylist to help rinse out my hair. Then while I lay with my head in the bowl, she was trying to comb it out as she pulled hair out of my head. After she rinsed it, she went over to trim both of my daughters hair which was part of our appointments. Because she was running out of time with my side foils, she came back to me as my daughter sat waiting to be finished. Someone else came to finish her hair and never cut her bangs (my original reason I wanted it cut). She returned to my head, checked the sides and said "oh shit, I have to use more product" and THAT MY FRIENDS is how they get you. Never mind that she destroyed my hair, never gave full service to my kids but this is how they slide in more product to make more money. It began at $159 for highlights and free advertised cut, plus two bang trims to $400 plus my $70 deposit. I was there for highlights. Instead I got fried hair, lost 5 hours of my day, two kids who were so disappointed in our girls day out because not only did they not wash, dry and style their hair but didn't cut it as I asked. Shw cut it dry.. I just wanted out at the end and left with a super anxious smile. I knew it was fried. My total was over $400 and they also kept a $70 deposit. And when they offered to fix it, they conditioned it, put more toner on it and gave me a sample bottle of Olaplex. My hair has been falling out and the breakage is horrible. I've had my hair in a bun or a hat ever since. Thia place robs your wallet, time and confidence. I lived in California and I have been to salons in some very wealthy areas and NEVER was asked to turn over a car payment for fuzz. read more

When I got there the staff was nice like they always are. I have been going to Avalon for over 3 years. Then with what I thought would be another nice experience/ not so much. Begins..... Daisy comes to get me and takes me to her chair. Her greeting is standard and nice enough. I sit down and she asks me what I want. I have a very short haircut. It is a pixie cut. It is a fade that is also short on top. I had some hair loss and Michelle and I over the years found a hair cut that was cute and worked for me. It is a style the both genders wear. So it is gender neutral. I tell Daisy I just want my fade cleaned up. Simple. Nothing dramatic or hard. Her eyes get wide and she says to me. I am sorry. I do not have clippers and I don't do MENS hair cuts!! I was in shock. She tells me she has to talk to her manager. She comes back and tells me that I have to wait 45 minutes for a man named Jonathan to do my hair now. Because he knows how to do men's haircuts. At this point I was offended. I was not staying. This stylist clearly needs training in manners and in clipper use. She should know how to help all and any client. Just because a haircut is not long and lushes locks does not make it manly. I have cancelled all future appointments and will be looking for another place. I love Michelle. She is the best. But, to be offered to wait 45 minutes for a male stylist to cut my hair because this Daisy person thinks I have a male hair cut. Nothing else was done to make me feel comfortable. A small apology. Crap service, over priced. I had the same hair girl in CA for seven years. When my husband and I moved here in March 2022 for Army orders, I was in search of a new hair girl. I looked and looked on Instagram and found someone I liked. Originally I made an appointment but called to change it to a consultation after messaging the stylist on Instagram. On Instagram she quoted me $450-$500 for a cut and balayage depending on length and thickness. When I went to the consultation appointment, she was running an hour behind schedule and nobody at the front desk called to give me a heads up. So I left and came back an hour later. When I arrived the second time, this stylist was in the middle of a "big hair project" with another client so she talked to me while continuing to do her hair (something she could have done the first time I walked in). After talking to me for 5 minutes, not touching or really even looking at my hair, the front desk quoted me $445. That consultation was a complete waste of time. The day before my originally scheduled service appointment (that I had changed to a consultation appointment two weeks prior) I got a text to confirm the service appointment. I cancelled it and then got told I would get a refund for the charge on my credit card. I can't believe this place makes you pay a down payment just to make an appointment. I have since found another independent stylist who charges $300 for the same service, is friendly and responsive, and does amazing hair. read more

On my second visit with the same stylist to get my hair lightened, she instead dyed it almost black! She said she was going to just add a little toner. But, instead colored my whole head dark dark browns. Then, she said she was just going to trim some of my ends, but cut over 3 inches along my crown and throughout with super short layers. I ha e very curly natural hair. It shrank even shorter, once it was dry. I walked into the salon with long, curly highlighted hair that reached the middle of my back. I walked out with a roughly cut mullet of black layers and no blonde highlights to be seen. When I contacted the salon crying and upset that my hair was so short and that the color was wrong, they only offered me a complimentary hair cut. What?! My hair barely reaches past my shoulders, now. Why would cutting it more be a solution? When I asked for a refund for the $200+ I paid, all communications stopped. read more

They make an attempt at seeming transparent when it comes to their pricing but even then it's not. I booked a new client cut and all over color which is advertised on the site as $159, when in reality it's $179. I ended up paying $380 not including tip. And that's the price AFTER they take off the $80 deposit you pay online. For brown hair and a trim. Never in my life have I even paid that for a blonde balayage with a cut. I called Saturday morning and let them know I was upset and they said they don't do refunds and can do a color correction. I told them for $600 I should have left happy and I didn't want them to touch my hair again and damage it even more. I have naturally curly VERY damaged hair and I am trying to grow it out again. It's not super easy to cut curly hair and Angela did pretty much THE BEST cut I've ever received. I've managed a salon before and have had very high end cuts with a variety of hair stylist and this is THE first time I've had a 100% perfect cut. You know how when you go home and you first wash your hair and it's time for you to style it yourself after you've received your first cut and such?
