I was disappointed with my haircut because the final length was significantly shorter than what we discussed during the consultation. I brought reference photos and specifically mentioned that I wanted to keep enough length to comfortably pull my hair back for work. Unfortunately, the haircut ended up much shorter than expected, including the face-framing layers, and I can no longer wear my hair the way I explained I needed to. I also felt uncomfortable hearing a conversation during my shampoo that suggested my appointment had extended my stylist's day. I had tried to book online, but the website wouldn't let me for some reason, so I called the salon to confirm the appointment time was available and to have the appointment booked over the phone. Hearing that conversation made me feel like an inconvenience. I understand scheduling issues can happen, but it was an awkward experience as a client. From the moment you walk in, the salon smells like an actual spa--rosemary mint, fresh, clean, relaxing vibes--and Bri just takes it to another level. Her customized head massages are EVERYTHING. Hands down the best I've ever had. You can tell she's experienced and intentional with every step, from the massage to the products she chooses. My hair is super curly, frizzy, and extremely dry, and she always knows exactly what hydrating products to use to bring it back to life. My hair feels soft, healthy, and revived every single time. HORRIBLE SALON. I paid $80 for a simple haircut and the woman treated me extremely rude the whole time. I came in to treat myself to a Goddamn beauty appointment and it was hell. I am elderly woman whom I tried explaining my recent extreme hair loss and what I would like done. Bree made me feel so bad about myself and her I will never be back. She even made fun of me and I saw the response of the other stylist. I hate them all for not being not being a place of wellness but this Avalon is a place of hate, hate, hate. Their high pitched fake voices don't make it better when trying to fake kiss ass after such a horrible experience on what was supposed to be my spa day, the first one I've had in years due to my epilepsy. Got a very basic haircut, no color no treatments. I'd been to this location once, other locations multiple times and thought it'd be fine, but I will not be going back. I asked for face framing and pretty much got bangs. The face framing and layers are uneven on both sides. It is so choppy and uneven all around with layers. I've been going to Kevin K for about a year now, and honestly, I don't see myself going to anyone else. Every single time, he nails the haircut--even when I show up not totally sure what I want. He always takes the time to talk it through, gives great recommendations, and I end up walking out of the shop feeling like a brand-new person. One of my favorite things (aside from the cut itself) is when he washes my hair--he gives this relaxing scalp massage that lowkey makes me feel like I'm at a spa. It's such a small touch but makes a huge difference. Kevin's energy is always good vibes, super welcoming, and it's genuinely nice to catch up with him during the appointment. He's also really flexible with my work schedule, which I appreciate more than I can say. I used to struggle to find a barber who knew how to shape my hair properly, but Kevin just gets it. I went to this salon for a hair color and went in with Krystal.I showed her what I wanted.She ended up leaving my hair with different colors and shades.And left my hair badly damaged and a lot of breakage.Now I have to do treatment on my hair and even more if I decide to get any bleach or anything done to my hair.She knew she had mess up on my hair and I asked for a refund which she agreed too .I was not expecting how my hair turned out and had been there for 4 hours.It was a waste of time.I will not come if here ever again.This salon is not professional and clearly are not experienced and don't know what they are doing. read more

My first experience at Avalon Salon West Village today was totally Five Stars. I was nervous about trying a new stylist after years at a different Aveda salon -- but I couldn't have made a better choice! The front-of-house staff here is super-friendly and refreshingly unpretentious. The environment of the salon itself is hip, warm, and inviting, but also relaxing. If you, like me, don't enjoy a super noisy salon that seems more like a chaotic nightclub than a rejuvenating oasis, the spa environment of this one will appeal to you. My stylist, Annabelle, did an ace job with my color and blow-dry. I have tricky hair, and she was patient in getting to know my needs, she asked a lot of questions and took her time, and the work she did was absolute perfection. I can't recommend her highly enough: she is personable, professional, and extremely talented. I left looking and feeling like a million bucks. Best salon experience I have had in Dallas in many years. Heartfelt thanks, Avalon and Annabelle: I needed a new hair home, and I am so glad I have found one! To all potential customers out there: If you are considering an Aveda salon for the first time, let me add that Aveda products are wonderful, and the color is nothing less than amazing: it always leaves hair feeling healthier (and shinier!) than any other color on the market. But if the staff or atmosphere at a salon are lacking, the experience is too stressful and customers will go elsewhere. I did. UPDATE: I received a call from Avalon, I believe the manager's name is Melissa, and she carefully listened as I vented and understood my points, stating that she is trying to get more training on working with textured hair etc. I sincerely hope that they do, since we are entering an era of awareness and inclusivity which in the hair world includes people of color, people with textured hair etc. Melissa set up an appt with a sr stylist and educator named Sam, who is also extremely professional and understanding of my situation and put the correct toner all over my hair to turn it a smoky ash color and remove the brassiness. I believe his highlights aren't too much more expensive, so I'd recommend either Sam or Melissa if she still does hair. I do appreciate the effort from Melissa and Sam to address my concerns, and both exhibited professionalism to rectify the situation. Hair is always an experiment of sorts, from breakage to brassiness, but a stylist should acknowledge those, transparency in pricing and accept and encourage training in areas of improvement. I'll try and upload my hair post toner so you can judge for yourselves. I have coarse, curly, black, but healthy hair which I've been taking care of during the pandemic, not using heat, following the curly girl method etc.  So far I've seen two different stylists for highlights and both times, left  very disappointed.  I won't mention their names, but I will say I do believe this salon mainly focuses on blondes, or non curly, ethnic hair since every time I've been in there watching women come out with their beautiful highlights or fashion colors, none of them were people of color. I felt compelled to write this review because they will claim "you have difficult hair to color," but I've been to so many salons that got it right on the first time.  Perhaps, they should take ownership that they don't know how to deal with curly, coarse hair that many ethnicities have and need more training.  They are simply not experienced in this area, and I should have taken a hint by looking at the demographic that goes here. I've been getting my hair done for 30+ years and trust me, its not me, its them. I've been greying and dying my greys since 16, and have had many amazing hairdressers that achieved the right ash shades with no brassiness at a fraction of the cost of this salon. My first color experience here, my hair pulled red, and the stylist proceeded to cover it with dark ash toner so I looked like I had low lights rather then highlights. When my husband saw my hair, he literally said, "I thought you went for highlights, doesn't even look like you had anything done?" This is also one of their top, color stylists who claims to have dark hair and knows how to lift it. The second time, I left with hot roots and lots of breakage, which they refunded me some of the charges and then I had to pay for toner which they only did at the roots, so I still look like an orangutan. Every time they step away to mix a new bowl of any product you will be charged for it, and they will not be transparent of the additional charges.  Below is my itemized receipt. I've giving my hair a week break, before I get toner and try to fix this again myself. My hair is still breaking, orange, and I just don't want anyone to feel as crappy as I do right now.  I asked my friends for their opinion, after showing them my hair inperson, and they were shocked.  They all have similar hair types and encouraged me to warn others. After a year of not going to a salon due to Covid, I thought I would try this place based on recommendations. Had quite a bit of hair to work with, in my non-professional opinion. I took pictures of styles that appeal to me, I have short hair, along with pictures of haircuts I've had over the past several years. When I sat down, I said to the stylist here's what I like , it's up to you to tell me if these ideas work with my hair, face shape etc. When I walked out, I looked like a peeled onion bearing no resemblance whatsoever to any of the photos I provided. A few days later I received an email from the salon asking about my experience to which I responded as stated above. What's done is done and my hair will grow out though it will take several months. What I think is unfortunate, other than the terrible haircut, is that I have not received any response from management. There are dozens of people out there who think this is a great place. Brittany Reyes has been my colorist at Avalon for over 5 years and she's the absolute best I've ever been to (I've previously tried different salons in Dallas and NYC). Personable, professional, and an absolute genius when it comes to hair. I have never once left Brittany's chair feeling anything but thrilled--she takes the time to listen to what I want and always executes perfectly. Plus, she's so kind and thoughtful! Just okay. I booked a one hour massage and although they say part of it is the time it takes to "change clothes" so to speak, I feel like I was really cut short on time... you maybe get 40 minutes of a massage if that. When I was done, changed and walked out to pay, I still probably had ten minutes left of the hour. It gets 4 stars only because staff are friendly. However, I was asked what areas needed more attention during my sports massage and frankly, it was like I just got the standard that anyone would get... There was No extra focus or longer duration for the areas that I emphasized needed more work. E.g.) A couple areas where I was recovering from injury/tight muscle. The rooms are in close proximity so it's fairly easy to hear people chatting as they walk back and forth. read more

I have been a client here for 15+ years, I guess that doesn't mean anything to them. I had made an appointment for 12:45 on Sunday (today) for a single color treatment, my normal thing. I get a confirmation a couple of days before asking to confirm my 12:30 appt. I actually couldn't make 12:30, I needed the 12:45 I had ORIGINALLY booked. I called and I explained the situation and she said she could do 12:45 (my original time) or 1. I said great 1pm actually works better for me. She said "we have you all set for 1pm for a color". So I'm heading to my ONE pm appointment and get a call asking where I am for my 12:30 appt (with an attitude no less). I explain to the girl what happened and she says it wasn't changed on their end, so the moron at the front desk never changed it, even though she said she did?! Whose fault is that, apparently mine. The response I got is there is nothing they can do, they are all booked. I have a big trip out of the country the next day, which is why I booked the color weeks before. I explained this to them, said I really need to get in today, and again, we are booked sorry can't help. And it's too late to book anywhere else, so I am just screwed thanks to their mess up, This is actually the second time in a row I've had an issue. The first time, I booked an appt and they decided to push it back 15 minutes but DIDN'T TELL ME. I get there 10 min early and end up waiting a total of 30 minutes. People schedule appointments that work with their schedule, not what works best for the salon. Unbelievably unprofessional and disrespectful! I will never go there again, and I will let everyone know my experience I had. They have gone so downhill. I look forward to taking my money and business elsewhere, since Avalon has made it clear they don't care about either of those things. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Avalon Salon, especially Cassie!! I have been coloring my own hair at home for nearly 20 years, with the occasional trip to a salon that I always regretted. Having had several fairly traumatic experiences with salon coloring, I was about to give up when someone told me that Aveda salons are the best. After doing a little research, I decided to take one last chance and schedule a consultation at Avalon. I called and said I had something kind of crazy and bright in mind, so they recommended Cassie and I am so glad! She took her time to explain every step of the process and why she was doing it (not sure if this is standard practice or because I explained my past negative experiences elsewhere, but it was much appreciated!). It took nearly five hours to turn the mess Ulta created into a picture I found online, and it was seriously painless. Cassie (and all the other stylists!) were friendly and relaxing to be around. While not cheap by any means, I found their pricing incredibly reasonable for what I wanted (and a rare bonus: not over the estimate quoted during my consultation!) Only negatives I can think of are the small, cramped quarters (although their Covid precautions were on point), lack of space to hang a purse without putting it on the floor, and fact that they don't give you an itemized receipt. None of these were enough to drop even a star. read more
