Well this is a step up from eating at Luke's sandwich shop across the street ambience Wise It's not a hole in the wall it's more bougie and trendy. The service was much more friendly although I paid a little more and also I ordered a little more for my lunch. My main order was the meat lasagna which came with salad and drink but I didn't care for the salad I wanted a soup of the day. It was either minestrone or pasta fagioli soup. I went for the pasta fagioli soup which was tomato based light minestrone but had beans. It was actually delicious. I then moved on and ordered since I had a craving for arancini. It was good too I ordered the meat base one versus the spinached one. We separate the marinara or the tomato based sauce which tasted fresh. And it wasn't heavy. Most homemade arancini it's almost like a meal and it's heavy because I already ordered lasagna but it was delicious and light as an extra appetizer. The meat lasagna was actually very delicious but she's tasted fresh the sauces taste the fresh it's like a step up from Sbarro's lasagna from the mall. It comes with a complimentary bread. I was surprised how big the portion of tiramisu is but I guess if you paid $5.95 for tiramisu and can eat large portion . When I'm in the mood for Italian American I'll come back here instead of Lukes. four out of five stars because of how they separated just like ordering a lot of food into two trays but now I know how large their portions are so I'll be okay with one

I really wanted coffee and Avanti Caffeé was on the way to the Sky Deck. The menu was pretty straightforward and simple. I order an espresso macchiato and my boyfriend got an Americano. The coffee was on the cheaper side, so you get your bang for your buck because it's the same quality as other coffee shops! It looks like this place is more known for their sandwiches/food, but since we already had lunch we didn't get the chance to try. However, all the other reviews seem to have great things to say about it!

Italian Bean Salad And Olive Salad

Got some lunch at this unassuming cafe in the Loop. It didn't look like it would be that good, but it was much better than it appeared though. Avanti is basically like a deli with lots of salads and sandwiches, along with sweets such as cookies. For the location it wasn't that busy honestly. The prices are pretty okay for the small portions of salads. At lunch I wasn't that hungry. It turned out this was a perfect kind of place. The portions of the salads were just enough, and made a pretty healthy meal too. It's $4.50 for the small portions. There's a variety of salads. I got a couple of the vegetarian choices. The Italian Bean Salad was kind of like a typical one. Lots of beans. Making it better though was the addition of the Italian dressing along with the artichokes and carrots. Better than it looked to be. The Olive Salad also had some carrots in this. Lots of olives. This would make a great smorgasbord for parties. Come try the many salads they have. It has something for almost any taste. There's meaty ones with chicken and there's a few okay for vegetarians.

The cafe is nice. It has a nice ambiance for lunch. They menu has a big selection (I think) with a minute of warm and cold meals, salad, sides, desserts, etc. Customer service was friendly. She was patient as this was my first time here and recommended the chicken mix sandwich (warm for this nice cold day), I had a pistachio cannoli and a caramel macchiato. The meals came out pretty quickly. All was really good! I would recommend this place to a friend & its great for a working day lunch!

So happy that this place survived during COVID! I haven't been back to the Loop in over a year because my office has been closed, but thankfully Avanti is still there! This is my go to place for lunch because they have such a great menu and I've liked everything I've tried. Salads, whole pizzas and pizza by the slice, great sandwiches, pasta, etc. If you're looking for a great non-chain spot for lunch in the Loop this is it!

Needed a place to eat breakfast before our reserved time for Skydeck. Found Avanti among a sea of McDonalds & Starbucks. It is locally owned. Great place to grab a latte, smoothie, variety of pastries, or breakfast sandwiches. Their lunch offerings look really good. The items were also priced pretty well for the area. Good place for a quick breakfast or lunch!

Cute little place connected to my office building. The siciliano tostino is delicious and a good size for the price. I ordered online and it was ready within 10 mins

Grilled Panini?! Cheese not even melted!
    Erika G.

No. I was craving a nice, crispy, buttery Panini sandwich. Maybe some salami, maybe a ham and cheese. Wanting to try a new place and wandered in here. Never. Again. I ordered the Ham & Cheese Tostino, anticipating melty cheese grilled goodness with delicious ham. First of all, on a bun?! No. A panini should be grilled BREAD. Probably Italian bread, packed with buttery goodness. Not this bready, thick BUN with a few char marks on it. And the cheese should actually be MELTED, not cold. And the ham was okay, but pretty standard deli sliced ham. Won't get fooled again.

6" Italian Beef w/ mozzarella & hot peppers. Peppers were crunchy and actually hot, beef was juicy & plentiful.

This is definitely a gem of a restaurant in the loop. I've been avoiding it because I thought it was a small place, but it has tons of menu items that are amazing. I got the italian beef the first time I came here, and I thought it was probably better than Lukes, Maxs & Al's Beef around the area. The hot giardiniera was actually surprisingly hot and left a good burn with the beef. I had the chicken parmesan sandwich next, and that was definitely worth it as well (would've liked more chicken though). I just had the meat lasagna, and this thing was the size of a newborn baby. It came out steaming and was very delicious, several people made comments of the amazing smell. I was able to finish it, but the crazy part was that they included bread and a salad to go with it. I had to give the salad away to a coworker since I was too stuffed. Bright side is that it looks like they use romaine lettuce w/ their salad, so that's pretty awesome. Pretty excited to try their other menu items.

My mom orders from here often for family events and work events, however, today they lost our order ticket so our 2pm order wasn't made until we went to pick it up, and we didn't get it until 3pm. We handled that with grace and didn't complain. When they finally got the food to us and put it in the trunk, they spilled the juice from the Italian beef tray in the trunk. Which again, we were very calm and didn't complain about it. When the food got to the house and we started to unpack, we realized that we didn't get the steak sandwich tray we ordered, but a tray of mixed sandwiches. My mother called the restaurant to see how we can fix this, since we didn't need a tray of mixed sandwiches when we ordered the Italian beef and chicken Vesuvio separately as it was. The manager, Ali, basically called my mom a liar, said they checked the trays and we got the correct one. This is clearly not the case. She had horrible customer service skills and even refused to refund the difference for the price for the mixed sandwich trays and steak sandwich trays. As long-time customers we expected better. I've attached screenshots of the receipt and the food we receive. Edit: we spoke to the manager Kara today She was apologetic and made everything right for us.

Small spot you could casually pick up food and walk to if you're around downtown. Lots of cheese and sauce with a beautiful baguette to remind you that this place makes pizza too. Dough, cheese, and sauce are what this place really excels in. It's no surprise that they do it well across the board. Out of the sandwiches I tried, the gardinera pairs the best with the Drunken Chicken sandwich. I'm unsure if my hunger pangs were amplifying my experience, but this sandwich was something of legends... The ingredients combo into something a little too unfair to not be distributed to the rest of America. The food really feels special when you have it late night after a really long day of fun. The people are casual and nice and didn't make it awkward to eat there even though the place itself is quite small. It is shareable and hearty. The bread is so good. It's crusty and soft on the inside. It allows the right amount of sauce to soak in without being a giant mess. I don't consider it a save half and eat later sandwich though. In my experience it loses a bit of structure if not eaten right away. I have had the turkey, tuna, and meatball sandwich as well. All good and able to split into 2 meals and they save well. As mentioned, this spot is on repeat for me and haven't disliked anything. The pizza is ok but I wouldn't choose it as my pizza spot. There are better but if you are in a pinch a single slice option is nice. I enjoy the little Tiramisu cup. Perfect size. If you normally scroll by and wonder if you should try Nonna's go ahead. It's a good option.

I walked in and the incredible smell hit me, all the meats and bread on display, everything looks fresh. The crew behind the counter was top notch, super friendly and on it. Menu has a lot, but for my first time I went with the Italian. Hot capicola, Genoa salami, hard salami, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, tomato, red wine vinegar, oregano. First bite... everything just came together. The meats were layered perfectly, salty, a little spicy from the capicola, super flavorful. The provolone added that creamy, slightly sharp bite. Bread had a nice chew on the outside but soft inside, held everything without falling apart. The vinegar and oregano gave it that tang and freshness that cuts through all the richness. We were fortunate enough to be having dinner at an Italian restaurant in the same block, and I saw that they were open until midnight. I decided to grab a grinder and a couple of cannoli after dinner to consume the next day for lunch. They utilize a walk-up window for their later hours. I believe I mentioned during ordering that we "do not get grinders like this in Cali" and they were kind enough to let us indoors (surely knowing this weather was nearly "Antarctic penguin cold" for us) while our order was being finished. I saw various jars of giardiniera and muffuletta and could not resist buying a couple. Our store associate kindly wrapped them well in plastic wrap to ensure safe travel back to Cali. Our sandwich maker was a cool guy as well and conversational with us. They even gave us some brief family history on the place. Unfortunately, without my knowledge the wife set us up with an Uber while waiting so we had to dash and run to make our next stop before their closing time. "Foodies are as foodies do"... The FOOD review: CANNOLI w/cherries: -- it appears they use Amarena Bologna cherries which are so much better tasting than the standard maraschino bright red ones. I prefer morello cherries or these when using them in cannoli pie or on Chicago style or ricotta cheesecake. -- cheese tastes of cow's milk ricotta and is well strained so not watery -- lightly sweet is appreciated as it should be...no fake Italian sugar bomb with chocolate sauce and whipped cream like they do in Cali sometimes -- smaller portion size but value is good -- smoother textured than grainy -- shell is light colored and pretty solid -- up to a moderate dusting of powdered sugar on exterior -- appears freshly filled as there is no soggy shell syndrome whatsoever, crunchy and firm (I ate one two days later and it still had a firm shell) -- I have about 8 different cannoli pie recipes I created and make for friends, family and colleagues now and then. I transitioned to pie ages ago because there are so many bad shells and a graham cracker crust is always legit and easy to find. -- IMHO this is a much better and truer cannoli rendition than what you will find at D'Amato's Bakery in Chicago RATING = A "MR. G SPECIALTY GRINDER": -- I briefly considered "The Italian" or asking for a combo of the two but this stood out so I stuck with it -- I requested it "wet" as I hate anything dry (bread, meat etc.) and prefer extra "juice" (red wine vinegar, EVO) -- bread is not thick nor thin but just right with great texture, taste and freshness -- loved all the flavors and additions -- not a moose overloaded grinder but just right for those out of their twenties who do not need "sandie leftovers for days" -- good value here too RATING = A+ They even sell some appealing looking BLOOD ORANGE (and other flavors) sorbet. I definitely recommend them for a super hospitable Italiano experience with great eats. They even made the "Top Sandwich joints" in America list by Food & Wine magazine per associate and a quick Internet search.

I must have looked confused because the owner directed me & told the line started on the other side towards the back of the store.
