I don't mind the pizza from Avent Ferry Pizza. Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. Is it the worst? Also no. It lives comfortably in the "pretty good, sometimes great, sometimes confusing" middle ground. The pizza itself is a little different than your standard slice. The dough has a slightly sweet, buttery vibe--almost (but not quite) like mall pretzel dough--and the sauce leans sweet with herbs mixed in. These aren't bad things at all. In fact, I'm fairly certain they grow some of their herbs right out front, which tells me a lot is made in-house. Fresh beats processed mystery ingredients every time. My biggest issue--and the reason for three stars--is consistency. One weekend you'll get a fantastic pizza that makes you think, "Why don't I come here more often?" The next time, something just feels a bit off flavor-wise. Tightening that up would go a long way. Also... what happened to the cinnamon rolls I keep seeing advertised but never available? I'm starting to believe they're a myth. If they actually exist, I'd really like to try one, because I bet they're good. All that said, I love supporting local businesses, and Avent Ferry Pizza is hands down the best restaurant in this strip mall. I'll keep coming back--just hoping the pizza gods are in a good mood that day. read more

The pizza photos here looked really good, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a small pizza with fresh mozzarella and basil for $15.10, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed. Located in a strip shopping center not too far from the centennial campus of NC State, Avent Ferry pizza is impressive. As a non-chain restaurant, it really delivered on variety and convenience. Although called a pizza place, and that's their focus, they also have other options that, based on my short time waiting for my order, sell very well to the locals -- the subs in particular. The salad was perfect. It can be a challenge to find a take-out place that has good salad, but AFP salad had fresh ingredients and bite-sized pieces. The garlic Knots were the only thing that were just okay -- they were warm and toasted/baked with the right crispy outside but were not especially garlicky. The pizza was fine -- AFP did not skimp on the toppings and the crust was cooked perfectly. The cheese was a little off from what I was expecting -- it wasn't bad, or stale, or old -- it just had an unexpected taste. It tasted more like a ricotta than a mozzarella, but after a couple of bites -- it started to balance the other toppings in just the right way. Spending a quick night in Raleigh and was looking for a close local pizza delivery. Avent Ferry delivers thru Slice (pizza app) & had great reviews - so I tried it out. Food came quick and was hot & fresh (within 30min on. Sunday at 7p ). Stromboli was filled w/ steak and perfectly cooked (see pics). Chicken tenders were a frozen brand but were still flavorful. Also, the homemade ranch was amazing - and I'm kinda a ranch snob. Definitely worth a try if you are looking for a local pizzeria in the NC State area. read more

We took our pizza to go so maybe that was part of my problem with this place, but I just didn't care for our pizza. The sauce is not my cup of tea. My boyfriend liked it fine but he hasn't asked to return. The fellas that were working were not even remotely friendly. If my boyfriend had not liked the pizza this would be a 2 star review. Okay guys. This hurts me. 3 stars is the lowest I've given for a review. I don't like being mean, but I've gotta speak my truth. This place has a lot of potential. I can see it being great, I just think some adjustments should be made. First off, I'd like to say that I had this picked up for me by a friend, so I can't speak on the service. I know it's a very small place though. Now to the food: let's start with the garlic knots. You can't tell from this picture, but they're the size of my fist. I've never seen such large garlic knots. This made me excited. Sadly though, they were way too doughy. If they made them smaller and kept the same cook time, I think it would be perfect. Also maybe more garlic but that's just me. As for the pizza, it doesn't look bad by any means. It was quite thin at the tip, then crescendos to about an inch thick. The dough was a tad bit sweet, but not in a good way. There needs to be more seasoning in the sauce or just on the pizza in general. I was told that the 2 slices and a drink was $7. Not a bad deal honestly if you need a quick fix. My friend said she would rather eat pizza from subway though (no joke, did you guys know subway had pizza?) She's a die hard subway pizza Stan so take that with a grain of salt. read more

They have a great lunch special - 10-3pm, two large slices of pizza and drink is free. Love the Stromboli and the staff is very nice! Excited to have a new pizza joint right around the corner from me!! Both my pizza and Stromboli were super hot and obviously made to order. I got two menu items I traditionally would not get.. I'm usually a cheese or supreme pizza and meat lovers or veggie calzone kinda girl but I ventured out and tried the Mediterranean pizza and Philly Stromboli. Both had great flavor. The Stromboli was just like eating a Philly cheese steak on a sub but with pizza dipping sauce. The only thing I didn't like - was the dipping sauce has meat in it. Seems unnecessary to me - I prefer a plain marina. I'd give the restaurant another try - but order different menu items next time. read more

Stopped in for a carryout dinner from Avent Ferry Pizza when I was in Raleigh for an overnight stay. I had a small veggie pizza and a tossed salad. The place is tucked away in an older shopping center and doesn't have much at all in the way of onsite dining, but the food was good and I would eat there again if I were back in the area. read more

The orders for both my calzone and subs were also incorrect and I was served something I am allergic to and unable to eat. When I called to speak to the manager he said he understood and would talk to the driver but no offer of a refund of any kind. Let me start by saying my husband is from New Jersey and not easy to please when it comes to pizza but he absolutely LOVED everything!! It was so good, it even stayed hot on my 30 minute drive home. I live in the Avent Ferry and Mission Valley area and I live in walking distance 2 pizza places they suck. I promised I would never go back . But I was craving pizza yesterday , so I had noticed a new pizza restaurant on Avent Ferry rd along with other new restaurants. So I decided to try it out. I am so glad I did . They have the best pizza. I order a pepperoni w/ onions ,mushrooms, peppers .olives. It was the best pizza I have had in a long time. Everything was fresh and it had sauce like I like it and the crust on the end was brown , crushes and flakey I have never had a pizza with flakey crush like that . Next time you have a craving for pizza guys check it out . They are the best. Oh by the way it is cooked by a real Italian , maybe that's why it is the best and original pizza. Ordered from here to try to find a new pizza place and we're hopeful with reviews but the crust and sauce are not good; I'd prefer to bake a frozen pizza then spend money on this food.
