I walked in for my first time because she was the closest Dentist available but left knowing that I found my new dentist. Ambiance the furnishings in the waiting area are stylish with neutral colors with very tasteful artwork. The couches in the waiting area were very comfortable. The patient room had flat screen TVs which were used to display xrays & also had Netflix. The patient seat is also very comfortable & reclines. Staff was very knowledgeable and willing to help. Dr Youn has a great bedside manner she spends time explaining the options available & her rationale behind a recommendation she makes. The dental care I received was fine, however I had some major issues with insurance/billing that has left me confused and frustrated. My insurance is listed as accepted on Avenue Dentals website, and when I showed up to my 2 basic cleaning appointments last year they ran my insurance and said I was in network. Per my dental plan, I should owe nothing for basic cleanings and was allowed 3 per year. Almost a year later, I'm now learning that they are NOT in fact in network and I'm being charged $206 because my insurance didn't cover everything. I feel it is unfair that I was told incorrect information and now am stuck with this bill when I should've been paying $0. Additionally, there were some confusing differences between billing codes and costs when charging my dental insurance compared to what was listed on my ledger. It was very difficult to get in contact with the billing department to help explain things, however after several calls across several weeks I was finally able to speak with Sylvia who was able to help at least a little. Overall, the whole experience felt disorganized and scammy and I unfortunately would not recommend coming here for dental care. But if you do, do your research ahead of time and make sure you know the ins and outs of dental billing codes and insurance coverage so you don't have unexpected costs. read more

I do not like to write bad reviews and try to be very fair. I lost a crown, and this review was hoping this could be my new dentist. It is a good location for more, and the office is clean, and the dentist seemed very kind. She tried to explain that I needed a referral and was professional, but I will not be back. I actually left in tears. The dental assistant insisted on X-rays, which are expensive, but said my insurance would cover them. My hesitation was purely based on pain. I had surgery the week before and had stitches. Before I got there, it had been a difficult week health-wise, and he could pick up on my annoyance, but I complied. Then he needed another X-ray with a plastic device. I cannot put my head back, and I cannot open my mouth very well. He forced it in my mouth, and it cut the inside of my mouth. He said, "it did not cut you". I said Are you seriously going to tell me it did not cut me when I am bleeding. He replied, "You are not bleeding, show me the blood". He told me that plastic cannot cut people, yet it did. I took off the apron and said, I am leaving. At this point the dentist came in and intervened. She told me I did not need another X-ray after all, that she could see on the first one, and that I needed to see a specialist to have the tooth removed. I was crying from stress and pain, (not pain from the cut). I asked for a Kleenex and at that point showed the assistant and the doctor that I was, in fact, bleeding. "he said ok, now it is bleeding, but it is because you have chapped lips." My lips are a little dry, but the cut is inside my mouth and on the corner. She was kind and de-escalated the situation. They referred me to another person, and because I try to be accountable and should not lose my temper, I apologized to the man for getting angry. "he said I am sorry if you got upset. Would you like some Chapstick?" They referred me elsewhere. I will not return, and I am not trying to hurt her business or say this is not a good dentist or a bad facility. I just found the visit to be negative because a staff member refused to be accountable for an accident. We all make mistakes, a simple I apologize and my day would have been very different. My impression is that Dr. Youn is probably capable, and she was empathetic. However, she needs to be proactive with that staff member because a simple apology was deserved, and that is a shame. read more

The level of care from the dentist was good and efficient. However, similar to other reviews, I had frustrating experiences with billing and bad communication. The office billed a ton to my insurance and this caused my insurance to max out for the year - recognize my part in this, but hope that my doctor would recognize the limitations and ideally give me alternative options. They also moved my appointments multiple times without asking me, then would call me asking why I was running late day-of. My final straw was when this happened, I paid for parking and walking in and they told me I couldn't use my insurance and had to pay for the appointment out of pocket. I just don't understand why they couldn't have called me in advance to share a heads up and ask what my preference was instead of making me spend 30+ mins driving back and forth and paying for parking only to end up not having my appointment. Similar to someone's review below, I also came for my routine check up and then ended up having to get crowns. I felt like I paid WAY to much money and had a bad gut feeling about this all, but I still went along with the process. I now started going to a new dentist that does an amazing job at explaining everything to me, and they SHOWED me that one of my crowns, which was done at Avenue Dental, is not fully secure and starting to cause some gum issue. Meaning I have to replace kit and go through this expensive crown procedure once again. I refuse to return or even ask avenue dental to fix this for me. Really great experience and I am very apprehensive about going to the dentist. Dr Youn made me feel at ease and was so efficient. The office is easy to find and her administrative staff are very helpful, keeping you informed of the costs and insurance coverage. Take care in double checking your EOB after your visits here. My experience: 1. Came in in early July to get some major work (a couple crowns) done. Paid in advance at preliminary cleaning 2. Later after work is done received an EOB from my insurance that indicated I was overcharged by hundreds 3. The office refused to honor a full refund, citing material costs. Costs of which I was never made aware or given a choice. 4. In spite of that, my insurance company continued to confirm that I had been overcharged. A formal grievance was filed, after which the office has admittedly been more open to giving me the full refund. 5. Throughout the entire refund process, I was treated like a child and an idiot. I had severe dental anxiety coming into my first visit and after a few visits, that anxiety is completely gone. I wish I didn't have to write this review bc I very much enjoyed Dr Youn as she seems like a fun and pleasant person from my visits with her. She filled two cavities which are doing fine. But the low rating is for the crown she gave me. After the permanent crown was put in, I couldn't chew on it and it was very sensitive to cold water. When I came in 2 weeks later, I was told to wait a bit longer for the sensitivity to wear off. Now, 3 months later, the pain has insidiously started to mess with my overall health- with constant headaches and inability to focus during the workday. After recents nights of excruciating pain, I decided I'd waited long enough and got emergency dental work done to turn it into a root canal. It's inconclusive whether this crown was a necessary procedure gone awry, unnecessary or premature. In any case, I was told it was bound to turn into a root canal at some point, I guess we just got there much quicker than I expected. This office is not flexible at all. They close by 3pm most days, not open weekends and require you to take off work to be seen. I went to them with excruciating tooth pain and was placed on antibiotics. That didn't work so I had a double root canal done elsewhere which required crowns to be repaired within 1month by my general dentist. I called right after my root canals and Avenue Dental would not get me in for over a month, which would've caused my root canals to become infected and possibly caused tooth extraction. I decided to change my dentist mostly out of convenience because of the close proximity to my home. I am so glad I did because this was one of the best dentist experiences I have had. They actually took me n earlier than my appointment time which is unheard of. Then when I sat down they had a HUGE tv and handed me the remote to pick something off of Netflix. It was nice to have something to distract me from being at the dentist. The Dental Assistant was so so nice and helped me get my x-rays. Dr. Youn was just as pleasant and I felt so at ease. I was super impressed with how quickly she was able to look at everything and determine exactly what I needed done. I didn't get the best news and found out I need my wisdom teeth removed but I feel super confident having it done with her. I went to Dr. Youn for a toothache that ended up needing a root canal and crown. While having the temporary filling for the root canal I was having excruciating pain and needed to go in as an emergency visit. The issue I had and will never forget was that I had excruciating pain during the visit/procedure and Dr. Youn did not numb me adequately. She stated that it would be difficult to numb me as there is an infection present. I was 26 years old, a grown woman, crying in the dentist chair like a toddler. The pain was intolerable and the anesthetic given was clearly not enough. I recently underwent another dental procedure with an infection present as well. It was difficult to numb me but the dentist was very tentative to my pain and ensured I was comfortable, giving me more anesthetic throughout the procedure. Dr. Youn did NOT do this and I will never forget the pain she put me through. I never returned to the office. read more

After having multiple procedures done at Avenue Dental, I decided to check Avenue Dental's reviews here on Yelp and noticed a number of reviews discussing billing. After checking my insurance claims, sure enough, I was overcharged by almost $200. It is extremely unethical that Avenue Dental did not reach out to me to let me know I had a refund. Had I not checked my insurance statements after reading these reviews and reached out to Avenue Dental myself, I would've never recovered my funds. I have spent countless hours emailing, checking my records, visiting the office to discuss billing and my overcharges. It has truly been a very frustrating experience. My experience with Avenue Dental was awful. Chief complaints include erratic bedside manner, poor quality of services rendered, unjustified/rushed treatment prescription, and incompetence of supporting staff. It is my impression that the recommended procedure (veneers for my two front teeth) was premature and should have been avoided. Two other dentists I consulted said veneers should have been an absolute last resort in my case, which was a minor chip on the inside corner of one of my front teeth. Both doctors also immediately identified the reason my composite wasn't staying in and explained it in detail (a crooked bottom tooth that could have been easily fixed). In contrast Dr. Youn simply said chips in those areas normally do not stay put and that veneers would be the likely outcome. She also emphasized and seeded questionable intent by expressing that it was a "slow time of year", which is concerning considering the high out-of-pocket cost of veneers. This is especially saddening given that my personal trust in her as a doctor, as well as positive reviews from ZocDoc and Yelp provided the basis of my consideration to rely on her professional guidance. Looking back at the other 1-star reviews that I disregarded due to the higher number of 4- and 5-star reviews, I see similarities in their experiences and wish I had paid them more mind. (Did I mention one of my veneers popped off within a week of the procedure?) In short, there are too many options in Chicago to risk putting your dental health in the hands of Dr. Youn. I would highly recommend seeking out another option despite the good reviews. read more

The BEST dental experience I have ever had. Went in knowing I needed some work done to my teeth, and I had a sore wisdom tooth that needed attention. Dr. Youn gave me a deep cleaning and pulled my tooth. What was so amazing was how fast and thorough she was!! You can tell she puts a patients comfort at utmost priority as well. Above that, the thing I most appreciated was how judicious she was with my insurance. She explained that I had to take my other two wisdom teeth out and fix some fillings, but they were not immediate concerns and could be done next year when my insurance resets. I wish I could give them 0 stars. This place is a fraud. I get deep cleaning here and a staff member told me that I only need to pay a portion(which was already pretty pricey $400) the rest my insurance cover! Long story short they never check my benefits because they would see a waiting period for that procedure!!! Now they keep calling me asking for 550$, that with a discount from 900$! I specifically ask them if I need a preauthorization for anything and the girl was so sweet saying I'm good to go right away. And that was already kind of weird because my visit was for a regular checkup and the doctor said she'l do cleaning because she has openings. Most of the dental offices take time to verify your benefits and then schedule an appointment and they are booked a months ahead.So the place is nice , clean and EMPTY!.So please be aware of that too. I also call them before that asking for my X rays, because I wanted to see the doctor in other state and they said I need to stop by the office and sign something. Who do that!!!!! All dental offices just E-mail you your information because it is yours!!!! I do have a high anxiety when it's come to dental work so from my experience Dr. Young did a bad job because I needed to undergo the same procedure one more time with another doctor because he said she clean it bad. This office is absolutely wonderful! I switched dentists a few years ago, and I am so happy with my decision. The dental assistants are all so sweet and funny and always makes me feel comfortable. I actually don't dread dentist appointments now! I am always so impressed by how professional the staff and Dr. Youn are to me. Dr. Youn is very open and honest about what she is doing, when, and why. She goes above and beyond to make sure that you have a comfortable experience and I greatly appreciate how she'll talk and tell stories while she's working since it distracts me from the dental work. I came here after realizing it was just not worth going to my old dentist after trying to figure out how many times I missed my 6 month cleaning because they didn't get me to schedule one out in advance. All I knew was I was overdue. I know I can be proactive and do it, but I also want to feel like the office or practice wants my business. I am one of those people that needs the reminder and don't mind the persistence when it comes to something important like teeth that need to be maintained and healthy. After speaking with the staff at Dr. Youn's office as well as with her I felt assured and they addressed my issue and made sure my appointments were scheduled in advance. The office is in a brand new building so it's very clean and I think there are some rooms that aren't even yet filled in or finished in the place. There are huge monitors to watch all kinds of tv shows for those screen lovers. I think we were all quite amused with 30 Rock until we got started. My first appointment was for a cleaning and I was explained what would be done and what my options were as well. Dr. Youn quickly saw that 2 of my fillings were cracked and needed to be replaced and that I had a cavity growing on top of a cavity. Who knew this could happen?! She said that it would be better to take care of it sooner rather than later. The cleaning went well as Dr. Youn was most entertaining providing all sorts of information on inflammation on the gums its correlation to other health related aspects. I know she was concerned about ranting on and me telling her to shut up if she's talking too much, but I don't mind. You never know when you need that type of information and I like to listen. It's just a little more difficult to respond and have a conversation when there are hands and instruments in your mouth and potentially water going down your throat. Afterwards, we did schedule my fillings to be done the next day, and she estimated about a half an hour time and she was right on that. Costs for services were explained and I provided them before the treatment for my fillings. Dr. Youn did a great job with the numbing - sometimes it feels like it can be all over the place and overdone with the whole mouth. It felt like it was the right amount and not very painful at all. I know Dr. Youn was having difficulty with my mouth closing down. I think the water vacuum was not in the right place to get the water coming down my throat so I was clamping down swallowing, and so that made it hard to talk and say anything. I think she understood and took a break anyways. She was able to file the filling down to comfort and so my bite feels normal, and we booked my next 6 months - so I am looking forward to the next appointment and getting back on track! read more
