New patient for Dr. Daza. This dental practice was recommended me by a fellow Yelp Elite. Both my husband and I go here. After thorough consultation and evaluation I began care. Recently had deep cleaning. This was my second deep cleaning. Experience here was better than my first experience at my dentist in AZ. No diss to my Dentist because I love him but hygienist was not gentle. Deep cleaning was performed by Theresa. Theresa was very professional, educational and assuring during my procedure. Other staff at this office were nice and friendly. Location and facility are very nice. It was hard to get initial appointment as new client. Eventually I was able to get seen. However it took two months. My husband was taken right away because he established care during height of Covid. Parking here is metered parking but if willing to drive a few blocks can secure free parking. Close to Blue L (Damen Stop). Cost seemed higher than I was used to but could be comparable to Chicago dental practices. My deep cleaning was $800 (insurance covered half). I would say overall happy with this practice. read more

Warning: Dr. Daza and her entire staff have left this practice. It is now an entirely different office than it was just a few years ago. The practice is now owned and operated by a larger dental group, and in my experience it no longer has the same patient-focused approach. I went in for a last minute appointment today because my old permanent retainer had broken and needed to be removed. I had the retainer for many years and it was put in by a previous orthodontist. Dr. Johnson was very understanding and willing to help me get it removed and take impressions for a new removable retainer. I'm so grateful that they were able to get me in so quickly. Dr. Johnson was kind, gentle and explained what he was doing. I felt very taken care of and heard. I definitely recommend going to Dr. Johnson. New client right here! Every since I moved from a different city to here, it's been rough trying to find a new dentist. Luckily, I decided to try out Bucktown Wicker Park Dental due to high google ratings. My first impression as I entered the facility is that the place was clean, but not sterile and stiff feeling, as some dental offices are. A nice touch of home decor is in the waiting area. The receptionist was welcoming and efficiently helped us thru our new client paperwork (which took around 10 minutes to complete). We saw Dr Melissa Daza and I was at ease with her professional options. She did my general cleaning. No complaints. Her assistant was also very professional and nice! My appointment was around an hour long. This review is only for my one visit so far. So far so good. read more

I went for a consultation with Dr. Daza regarding possibly getting a specialized procedure done. It wasn't a free consultation. Unfortunately I wasn't a good candidate for the procedure, but she suggested another avenue that might offer some different help and knew of two specialists, for whom she would get me the contact information in about a day. After not hearing from her, I followed up with Kara (who was very nice and solicitous before my appointment) and she provided me with a list of orthodontists, which wasn't what I asked for. I've now tried two more times via email to get the correct information from Dr. Daza via Kara, only to get completely blown off! Apparently they couldn't care less if you're not going to be their patient. I don't know about the quality of their dental care itself, but based on this ghosting, I do not recommend them! read more

Dr Daza is simply amazing. My dentist for nearly 10 years. I have complicated teeth, nerves and gum issues. Dr Daza designed a plan with me, walked me through every step, addressed my worries and anxieties. She is patient, good natured, and so very knowledgeable. She also goes above and beyond. This week she saw my mother in law for emergency tooth pain and infection. My MIL lives in another country and is 72 years old. Dr Daza fit her into her busy schedule, patiently examined and diagnosed her, and referred her to a surgeon for root canal. Later on, my MIL felt faint and had a headache, Dr Daza called me at 7:30p to advise and comfort us. Today my MIL is back to her energetic self and we are headed to an architecture boat tour. Did I tell you that I am getting married on Saturday? Yes Dr Daza ensured we will all be able to enjoy and celebrate with less stress. Thank you Dr Daza! read more

Great place. Super clean and the staff was very attentive and personable. While I did get the feel they were fishing for a reason to offer cosmetic services, they didn't push it and were very friendly. They also arranged the services so I had my next appointment scheduled before standing up and spent no time checking out. I like that. I'm glad I found these guys as my new dentist and I'll be back for my next cleaning no question! Update as of 2020. I'm not going back here after dealing with their billing practices. Both my wife and I got random bills for $50 for "no shows". They didn't confirm these appointments with us, and we both keep meticulous calendars. They were incredibly unhelpful about this and it frankly seems shady. I won't be going back. read more

This place is a scam. Came here because I was looking for a new dentist in the area. They wouldn't accept my x rays from my previous dentist. When they took new ones the dentist told me I had 8 cavities. I went back to another dentist I trust to get a second opinion and had no cavities. They did not even do a cleaning, which is why I even went here in the first place. I paid a co-pay, they ran insurance, and then sent me another bill 10 months later. Rosa J. loves to write and Yelp, and this certainly doesn't require an open mouth. Nevertheless, she was out of the dental insurance for some time before the current one through her employer. For the longest time, she assumed that her oral hygiene was decent since her teeth were cavity-free. Did the professionals agree with her hypothesis? Dr. Schwartz broke the news to me (yes, back to the first-person pronoun) that I needed a deep cleaning, formally known as "scaling and root planing" since the periodontal probe showed that pockets between tooth rooters and the gums. This phenomenon also has caused bone losses, and these bones have said "farewell" for good and wouldn't grow back. Wow, I was a bit worried, but I held on and listened to Dr. Schwartz's advice for what to do next. Through my employer I have insurance with Delta Dental, and Bucktown Wicker Park Dental is one of many in-network providers in the city. Three (3) weeks after the initial visit, I came for my first deep cleaning. Brenda (hopefully caught her name correctly), the dental hygienist, performed this on second and third quadrants of my mouth. I bought my earphones with me and was told that I could listen to my Pandora while the process is being performed. Yes and yes, I immediately searched my dear Mariah Carey radio station and hoped my anxiety would fly away like MC's signature butterfly! The first song came up was "Shake It Off," no, not the TS's version, but MC's. The "numbing" shots were crucial to administer. Otherwise, all the needle pokes would hurt me like crazy! After K-Ci&Jo Jo, Beyoncé, Ashanti, and Mary J. Blige who were nice enough to accompany me through this semi-awkward process, mainly because of my incapacitated mouth, I requested a short bathroom break. After the brief intermission, Brenda began to work on my upper mouth. I also switched my choice of music to "Black Box," a.k.a. The 90's house music. When "Good Vibrations" came out, I was reminding myself that the tools used to insert my gums provided pretty good "vibrations" per se. Mr. Wahlberg, thanks for your "Marky Mark" identity in your youth years because you were with me while I was sitting on the dental examination bed. I didn't mean to be this creepy with the music I like; I just wanted to have a better time with this uncomfortable mouth position. Toward the mid-portion of the bottom teeth, there was minor pain, coming from the "fourth quadrant" where the topical anesthetic medicine wasn't applied to. Yet that pain didn't last long before she moved onto the inner portion of the third quadrant. At the end of the session, I was given a bottle of anti-microbial mouth rinse, a toothbrush, a travel-sized toothpaste, and a package of floss. After this experience, I will be diligently flossing, brushing, and rinsing so that the accumulated bacteria (eventually turning into tartars...not the dipping sauce) won't have to pay mortgage for their "home" they've found in the neighborhood...inside my lovely mouth. With the dental insurance, I was responsible for 1/3 of the portion, in which was within the range of my estimates. I will be coming back for the other half of deep cleaning in a week. My experience with BWPD was pleasant. Going to a dental appointment isn't normally an exciting routine of my life, but I now have a piece of mind and know that getting examined and treated to regain the oral health is important and should NOT be skipped. read more

Great first-time patient experience today with Dr. Schwartz and dental hygienist Stephanie. Everyone I met (including front office staff) was very friendly and welcoming. While I just did a standard cleaning/check-up, it's clear they care about your dental health - Dr. Schwartz actually spends time with you and your teeth rather than coming in for a 2 minute drop-in at the end of the appointment. Pro tip: If you're coming from another dentist, have your records transferred ahead of time to make the appointment go more smoothly and avoid unnecessary x-rays. I really love this place, let's just start with that. I usually hate going to the dentist as much as I hate getting my car serviced, I always feel like there are bogus things they're suggesting and I often feel bullied into spending more money than I anticipated. BUT after seeing Dr. Michelle Schwartz several times, I think I've finally found MY dentist. She explains things well, is always timely and efficient, and I never feel like she's trying to sell me on some new gum treatment or something crazy. The staff is awesome and incredibly helpful, the place is beautiful, and I've never had issues getting appointments when I need them. As long as I'm in Chicago, I'll be going here! read more

If you value your money, stay far away. I make good money, have decent insurance, but after every visit they ALWAYS hit me up for more money - and they make it very difficult for you to find out WHAT the balance is for. In November a crown fell off and I had them re-cement it. I knew I was out of insurance so I told them I would pay cash, which I did, and also requested to pay off any remaining balance on my account. Later in December, I received a bill for $164 for services "provided" in SEPTEMBER. When I tried to determine what it was for and why it wasnt covered, I discovered their billing is so nebulous is is very difficult to track down exactly what they are billing for, what is covered by insurance, and how much is ACTUALLY owed. I went in today to inquire as to why a charge appeared THREE MONTHS after I was there, and Carmen, who apparently runs billing, just showed me a list of Explanation of Benefits and tried to tell me that I ran out of insurance. I then went to give her my card for the amount and she told me "Oh, actually that bill is in error, I made a mistake, it's $165". When I asked why the dollar difference, I was told that the contractual amount for that procedure has changed, its now $1 more. Yes, you read that right, they are not only manually tallying statements, but they then charge you the cost of the procedure at the time you pay, NOT at the time the service was performed. Lastly, to add icing to the cake, when I asked for a copy of the EOB we were discussing, she gave me her documents which had Protected Health Information (PHI) from another patient right on there. Full name, employer, procedure, Member/Group ID and all procedures and teeth involved. If a blatant HIPAA violation isn't a red flag to steer clear, then I dont know what is! But seriously, save yourself the time and frustration, and go to one of the other great dentists in the city. After today, I know I will. read more

Just when I thought I found a good dentist, I realized I was dealing with the used car salesmen of the dental world. So I had to get root canals. Dr. Daza kept trying to convince me to get crowns instead of fillings. I agreed, but said I had to wait a few months because I had met my maximum for the year for my dental insurance. I told her I would just get fillings then and then go back and get crowns when I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. Without discussing anything with me, she put posts in 3 of my teeth when I thought we were just doing fillings. I did not know this until I got a bill months later for a few hundred dollars. I called the office about this and they really could not have cared less. I kind of forgot about the situation after a while and I went back for my biannual teeth cleaning a few months later. I casually asked about cosmetic dentistry. I pointed out a few minor things I would like to correct about my smile if correcting it was something as easy as using a retainer. Dr Daza's response: "Your entire jaw is messed up. It's not an issue with your teeth. If you want to have a nicer smile and fix those lines around your mouth then you should get botox. I would definitely recommend it" By the way, I'm 21 years old. I have never been told that I should get botox, I figured it would be a while until I got that one. I especially didn't expect to hear it from my dentist when I was discussing getting a new retainer or invisalign. But still, I went back. Why? Because I didn't feel like looking for a new dentist. Plus I already hate the dentist anyway. One of my root canals failed. This was no fault of my own. I went back to my endodontist who corrected it for free. Then I went to Dr. Daza to get a filling. Yet again I was pressured about getting crowns. Not only that, I ended up paying for that filling. My endodontist (who is amazing, by the way) did it free of charge, but Dr. Daza and Wicker Park dental charged me for another filling on top of 3 previous fillings and 3 posts I didn't want. No thanks! This place is fine for simple cleanings as long as you're okay with being told about everything that is wrong with you (not just limited to the appearance and health of your teeth). Just be sure they aren't doing some much more expensive procedure even when you said you did not want it. I'm going to take Dr. Daza's advice and spend the money to get the crowns, but I'm sure as hell not giving her office my money for it. I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I've asked you for advice when purchasing new cell phones, navigation systems, and even book recommendations. You've helped me try new foods/bars that I wouldn't even consider trying out unless you got me super excited about it by inviting me to "elite" events. Now, you've helped me find the BEST dentist that I've ever met. Dr. Schwartz was super! She was really down to earth, sweet, and explained everything what was happening during my check-up/cleaning. She even was nice to me when I told her that I had a 1/2 a root canal done, and referred me out to a specialist (let's hope she's half as sweet as she was!). Lucky for me, I get to see her again prior to my next cleaning, as I have awful teeth and need to get a cavity out of my tooth, as well as a crown that will be put on my 1/2 root canal. B/WP Dental seems profit driven in my experience. They said that I had gum disease and that I needed deep teeth cleaning every time, an additional $400 out of pocket. I have since been to another dentist who said that my gums were great. They also installed a failed crown that had to be yanked and replaced by an implant. read more

Yeah everybody is nice & the waiting room is great & scheduling is a breeze, but I am not paying over $300 per cavity on my child's baby teeth. BABY TEETH!!! When I called my insurance provider to explain they said, 'You should have read the fine print, they used a white resin as opposed to a silver resin." I do not enjoy being gouged. I looked at the average cost of filling a tooth and it is $75. What these people charge, about $300 per tooth, is fucking outrageous and anyone who goes here has way too much $$$ and not enough brains. read more

I had an appointment for a cleaning today at 9am. I missed the train by seconds, and thought I should be courteous and call the office to let them know I would be a few minutes late. This call took place at 8:50am, 10 minutes before my appointment. I was only two stops away. The woman on the phone said I may need to reschedule. I told her no, it was not even 9am so I was not late yet, and that I would only be a few minutes late. I called two more times when I was almost at the Damen stop, but they did not pick up. I called one last time when I got off the Damen stop and was already walking to the office. A different woman answered the phone and told me that I would have to reschedule, even knowing that I was already walking to the office, and was only about 2 blocks away. This final call I made was at 9:07am. I was not even 10 minutes late at that point and they wanted me to reschedule my appointment for a later date. I was a repeat client here, was courteous enough to go above and beyond by giving them the play by play that I would be a few minutes late, the wind chill this morning was -15 degrees and there was snow on the ground. In extreme weather conditions such as this morning, I expect professional establishments to be more lenient, considerate and understanding when their clients are a little bit late. When I told the receptionist I would find a dentist closer to work next time, she wasn't concerned that she had lost my business. That upsets me that they don't value me as a client and turned me away on a day such as today when the weather conditions are well below freezing. If you want to feel like a valued client, whether you are a repeat client or a new one, I would suggest staying away from this unprofessional and inconsiderate business. read more

I found the hygienist, assistant and Dr. Schwartz to be excellent. But I will say the front office really put me off. In fact, I won't be returning. Luckily, Dr. Schwartz has an office in Lincoln Square that is run differently. It's the beginning of the year and my employer changed our dental coverage back to a previous insurer. It's a known insurance company, they even had my records (from two years back, just not the current ones). But that didn't stop the woman at the front desk from treating me like shit. At first, it was pleasant but the policies at this office are nuts. The cost for the visit wasn't very high, and knowing it would be covered (preventive care!), i wasn't worried. But there is something weird when the hygienist said to the assistant "oh, don't do the panoramic xray - he doesn't have insurance" that just pissed me off. Instead of being given any kind of choice, it was assumed I would cheap out. Like I said, even at the full cost, it wasn't very expensive - so I'm unclear what possessed them to treat me like that. After a lot of back and forth and being asked to wait in the office while she contacted my broker (!) to find out the data, i just pulled out my credit card and paid. I asked to be contacted when she found out more. And I never heard back. I've now been able to get the reimbursement and other stuff figured out. This was a pain in the ass. The office wasn't communicative or helpful. So I'm just glad I didn't get fleeced. read more

In and out baby. Too bad Doctor Schwartz is married cuz I think I might have a chance. All in all, I think I was in there for my first visit for only about 45 minutes. I went in for a chipped front tooth from boxing, and she filled and smoothed the bad boy out in a jiffy. She gave me the option of filling vs. sanding the tooth down and told me the pros and cons. I went for the "bondo" treatment and she told me what she was doing the whole time. The assistant was really friendly too. Seeing as how I haven't been to the dentist in years, this was a pretty pleasurable, pain free experience. They took me in a jiffy and fixed my gorgeous smile for my date tonight. Ahh, dentists. I am very, very, very picky about my dentists. Like in a lunatic kind of way. I have had some pretty horrible experiences with dentists in the past and it literally took me almost two weeks to decide to make an appointment with Bucktown Dental. To be clear, I really despise dentists that specialize in cosmetic anything. You know what a dentist should do? Clean teeth. Treat gum disease. Fill cavities. Perform root canals. Be concerned with the general health and well being of teeth, gums, etc. You know what a dentist shouldn't do? Provide orthodontic advice (go see an orthodontist for retainers or braces). Insist that whitening treatments are important. Push expensive cosmetic treatments on patients who a) don't want them and b) couldn't care less. I have sat in too many dental chairs and been told that I should get some kind of cosmetic treatment that I don't need. Who cares about fake white teeth? If it is not detrimental to my oral health, I don't want it. Please don't tell me that you "recommend" I get a retainer - my orthodontist would probably be offended that you're saying his two years of work didn't "take." But... I digress. Bucktown Dental is none of these things. My experience here was the exact opposite of ones that I've had at dentists in the past. All of the staff were friendly and I was seen by a technician to start my x-rays immediately. Everyone was very talkative and made me feel very comfortable. I was treated by Dr. Daza and she did a great job cleaning my teeth. She asked me what I wanted from my visit (I'm sure some people would like orthodontic advice or have come in with some kind of massive tooth pain), but she was perfectly happy to just clean my teeth like I asked. No argument, no pressure to whiten or get fitted for Invisalign.... just a nice, healthy teeth cleaning. I was in and out in an hour, and that included yearly x-rays and a long conversation about my job with Dr. Daza. All in all, very pleasant and I'm actually looking forward to going to my appointment in March (I know, weird... right?). The office is pleasantly decorated (even though it's partially under construction). The waiting area chairs are super cushy and comfortable and all of the decor is sleek and modern. They are really upfront about cost and insurance information, so give them your insurance info over the phone as soon as you call to make your first appointment. They were very clear about insurance and payment costs and they answered questions I had about different procedures in case anything happens in the future. Again, I'm actually looking forward to coming back. I think I finally found a dentist I can be really happy with. read more

I came to this office because my dentist-who is great-is no longer practicing in the office where I normally saw her and is now practicing exclusively here. When I was told that Dr. Schwartz would be moving her practice to the Bucktown location, I called to make an appointment. I informed them that I had been seeing Dr. Schwartz in Lincoln Square for 8 years or so and I had only been to the Bucktown location once, maybe 10 years ago. They scheduled my appointment and didn't ask me any questions about my insurance--which I assumed they had on file since I was a longtime patient. When I arrived for my appointment, I was immediately told that they checked with Blue Cross Blue Shield and found that I did not have insurance with them. I said I was not surprised by this, because BCBS doesn't carry my dental coverage--another company does. They didn't have my records, even though I had been going to Dr. Schwartz for nearly a decade. Nonetheless, when they checked my insurance coverage, they told me that Dr. Schwartz was an out of network provider and so insurance would only pay a portion of the amount. I asked them why they didn't ask me for this information in advance rather than wasting all of my time to drive down (after all, they apparently thought I had BCBS and wasn't covered at all)? The woman at the front claimed to have called my cellphone the day before and left a voicemail. When I told her I hadn't received a call or a message (and showed her my call log to prove this), she started to get an attitude with me. To summarize, I would say my comments are pretty consistent with the other negative critiques of this place: The dentist is good but the staff is very rude. I never had an issue in 8 years at the Lincoln Square location. These dentists may want to think about upgrading their staff or at least teaching them how to treat customers with respect. read more

Umm, omg the best dental experience I've ever had hands down no question didn't have to think twice about it. I have been so disillusioned with the dental profession for so long. I've always thought of them as a poor man's doctor (i.e. couldn't get into med school) and most of them live up to that by being greedy, rude, and useless. It seems like every other office I've been to in Chicago was hell bent on selling you useless services, utilizing shame as a means of manipulating you (sorry I know this sounds really overly dramatic, but it's how I feel God damnit!) or just totally wasted my time with their ridiculous disorganization. Anyhow, this place isn't like that at all!! It was a great experience right from when I walked in. Each person I encountered from the Office Manager to the Dental Assistant to the Dentist was extremely competent, friendly, and efficient. I'm super picky about all of my service providers -- mechanic, doctor, realtor, etc -- and not only want them to be lovely people in a lovely environment, but want them to be nearby so that I'm not sitting in traffic for 45 minutes or taking 2 busses to get to them. So when I moved to Wicker Park, I left my dentist of 10+ years to find someone in the new 'hood. Dr. Daza was recommended by a friend and after going to BWPD for over a year, I couldn't be happier. The office is sparkling, I never have to wait, and all the staff I interact with are friendly and helpful. Being self-employed, I don't have dental insurance and pay out of pocket; while it's never fun to pay any money to be drilled and poked, their prices seem on par with with others charge and I appreciate not getting the upsell every time I visit. I have a huge network of people who ask for and listen to my referrals, and I definitely have added BWPD to my referral list! I hate going to the dentist. As much as it sucks to get your teeth drilled, there could be much, much worse places that I could have gone to. My dentist was great and she talked me through what was going to happen and answered all my questions. The best part was Suzie the dental assistant who stayed with me and helped calm me down before they filled in my cavity. I really appreciated her taking the time to talk to me and reassure me that I would be ok. A big thumbs up to everyone at Bucktown Wicker Park Dental! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Falcone for about a year now. She is very nice and friendly and does a very nice job. I have gotten a cleaning, exam, and filling done by her which were all easy and quick. I am moving out of state and she even offered to ask her friend who lives where I am moving for a dentist and vet recommendation! I have also seen Dr. Schwartz when Dr. Falcone wasn't available. She did the root canal stuff that wasn't the actual root canal (you have to go somewhere else for that). While she was great and friendly, I had to come back a number of times to get the right crown. Ive been seeing Dr. Falcone at Bucktown Wicker Park Dental for over 6 years now and she has been hands down been my favorite dentist. Appointments are easy to schedule (though there can be a month out sometimes), they have the most up to date equipment, and have a great staff. Luckily enough for me, my visits have only consisted of checkups and a few fillings. Also, they give out swag bags at the end of your visit which excite me so. Alright, alright, even though I'm a 29 year old man I still enjoy getting the little bag with a toothbrush and floss. Don't judge me. They instilled this expectation in me when I was a child and they did the same to you too. Don't tell me you don't like getting the swag bag. read more

Like most people, I hate seeing the dentist. Fortunately, the dentist I saw here worked quickly and painlessly. Usually I need a xanax before a dentist appointment. Here, I went without and I was perfectly fine during my visit! I will be going here the next time I need a cleaning. read more

After looking at previous Yelp reviews, the opinion seemed pretty evenly split. Because they took my insurance and it was located only a few blocks from me, I decided to give it a try. They office is very modern. Small but cozy, it's decorated very well. The sign is cool, but just reads "bWPd" and I nearly passed it cuz I wasn't exactly sure if I was at the right place. I was greeted by the desk staff and taken back on time for my appointment. Michelle, my hygienist, was very warm and friendly. Talked me through everything she was doing and laughed at my bad jokes. Also did a good job of telling me what all was covered by my insurance when I was hesitant about getting X-rays. Dr Schwartz (?) was fantastic. Just like Michelle, she talked me through everything and did a thorough cleaning of my teeth. She even offered to grind down/fix a chip I had in my tooth that my previous dentist had never attempted to fix (said if it didn't bother me to just leave it). Any questions I had she answered, and her and Michelle both worked quickly together to get me in and out. If you're looking for a new dentist, I would definitely recommend coming here. I absolutely loved how friendly everyone was. I just might start to actually look forward to coming to the dentist. read more

My husband & I became patients of Dr Daza at Bucktown Dental over 8 yrs. ago. We would not have found her if the following had not happened. My last dentist came on to me, so I felt uneasy & never returned to his south side location on Cottage Grove. I decided to try a female dentist my husband recommended on Grand & Michigan Avenue, at the time, this was my husband dentist .......Well after 2 visits, I called to schedule a appointment, only to find out she no longer works there. This dentist had ABANDONED her practice without notice. Dr Daza was the dentist on staff when I was informed my dentist no longer practice in that office. Though I was skeptical, Dr Daza staff person, Sandy asked if I would like to see Dr Daza. I have been SATISFIED every since. I use to visit the downtown location, in walking distance from my job. I didn't care for the downtown floor plan & taking time off of work for dental visits, so I changed to Dr Daza's Bucktown office. Although Bucktown Dental is on the north side & I live south, I don't mind traveling for the great professional service. Dr Daza is GREAT at explaining your needs & options. She's A BLESSING IN DISGUISE, after all the issues with the past dentists. read more
