I stopped in with my 10-month-old son and was happy I did. Every single thing on the menu looked good. I finally settled on the black bean hummus and fish tacos. Both were great. The baby even ate some of the pitas with hummus and liked it. The place was full on a Friday at 1:30 and I think the two servers were a little stretched.... They were very nice, but it was a little slow. Just maybe not a place to go if you're time-crunched. After a quick study of restaurant choices in Wheeling i picked Avenue Eats to meet half way with relatives from out of state. Two hour drive for both of us...so we were hungry and anticipating a good lunch....Avenue Eats did not disappoint....the service was outstanding and the food choices interesting and fresh....excellent coffee made one cup at a time.....and the cupcakes were an an added bonus....i am gluten free so i just watched the others enjoy theirs.....they were also very accommodating in making sure my lunch was gluten free.....hope to visit again soon... read more

For a proprietorship, the attention to quality was slightly lacking, and prices are higher than average. It has a local following hipsters and townies. The burgers were no better than something I could have self-prepared on a budget with ingredients from a chain supermarket. Sadly, I'm not exaggerating. Minimal effort can produce better. Food quality was not worth the price, and the dining area was cramped even for a skinny person such as myself. I tried a few menu items, and was let down. It doesn't live up to the hype. Loved this quaint little restaurant nestled in an old Wheeling neighborhood. The food was not just your usual American fare. There were distinct touches for each menu item that made them delicious! The chicken club had a garlic aioli that added just the right complement to the chicken and with that you could choose salad, chips or fries. The pretzels and pub cheese dip was also wonderful. The pretzels were not your usual stadium fare but a warm homemade style. The service was very attentive and friendly. I loved everything about this restaurant! read more

A quaint, local eatery, found just off the beaten path, but worth the side trip. As a vegetarian, it is often hard to find good food. This place was awesome in catering for my needs! Visited for the second time Friday evening. Glad I gave this place a second chance. I was not impressed the first time I eat here, shortly after they opened. On this visit I got the mushroom burger with their hand cut french fries. The burger had great flavor arrived hot and cooked to order. French fries were also hot and very good. The only complaint I would have about this place is their hours of operation. 8:30 is very early to close for dinner - especially on the weekends. So happy our travels led us here! I got the Breakfast Burger with a side salad. The thick and delicious homemade blue cheese was the perfect compliment to the salad of mixed greens - complete with kalamata olives! And the burger! Let me tell you about the burger! Perfectly cooked to order! Super flavorful. Insanely delicious. Topped with tasty bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg. At first I was super disappointed because I got cheated out of the maple aioli (likely because I ordered the burger bunless). But the burger itself was so good, I quickly got over it and enjoyed a full on session of stuffing my face. Meanwhile, my husband sat across from me making all kinds of satisfactory grumblings that can only indicate signs of yumminess and contentment while devouring his Poutine Burger. I was fortunate enough to wrap my mouth around it long enough to swipe a hearty bite and I confirm it's delectability! He batted cleanup on the left over gravy on the plate using his side of chips which he claimed was a perfect pairing. After we paid our bill, we reconsidered dessert and ordered the Blondie (with ice cream, caramel sauce, and whipped cream). Somewhere in a distance church bells rang and angels sang. Stopped at Avenue Eats on our way home from a cross-country trip and this place was wonderful! Our server was kind and attentive. We arrived at the end of the lunch rush and our server was most likely ending her shift, but we couldn't tell! She was really great! We were famished so we started with a couple appetizers, risotto balls and BBQ wings. All the sauces were freshly made and you could definitely taste the difference "made fresh" makes. My husband and 2 daughters ordered burgers which they loved! I ordered the AWESOME shrimp po'boy. It had just the right amount of spice! My niece ordered a vegetarian sandwich and she too enjoyed her sandwich. This little place is worth the stop and don't forget to get a cupcake before you leave......YUM!!! read more

This restaurant is a stand alone where business is continuing to boom. I've eaten teriyaki tempura burritos(or maybe they call them wraps, they are under appetizers), sloppy joe, every salad on the menu, hamburger, chips,part of a fried green tomato sandwich, and their fish tacos. I've ordered some of them twice and the ones I haven't, I would order again. I definitely look forward to expanding my first tries. They have a pretty good selection of imports and domestic beer. They also serve wine. I don't think they serve liquor but I'm not positive. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Tables seat two to four but I've seen them combine tables for a party of eight. I've always received timely service with kindness. I recommend this restaurant. read more

With indoor and outdoor seating, a good beer list, and a trendy, modern menu (you can substitute tempeh on any sandwich), this is one of my favorite places in Wheeling. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! I went here tonight for the first time with a friend of mine. If you are looking for a fancy atmosphere, this isn't the place, but the ambiance is cool!! There is seating inside and on a deck outside. We had an early dinner so it wasn't crowded. We shared an appetizer of roasted red pepper hummus with grilled outa bread. OMG! I could have licked the plate! Once you have this hummus, you won't want any other! My friend had apple-berry salad. The cranberries, walnuts and apples were plentiful! And she said it was awesome. I had the grilled chicken salad. The chicken melted in my mouth and I asked for feta cheese instead of bleu cheese. This was the best salad I have ever had. I got dressing on the side, but used very little as this salad didn't need dressing. Both salads were huge, filling and above all else extremely fresh. I swear they have a garden out back and pick the greens from it!!! Our server was Tabitha.. wonderful young lady! Very pleasant, answered questions we had, took great care of us without being over bearing. Do yourself a favor and try Avenue Eats. This is a hidden gem! Fantastic find! We ordered the sloppy joe, and a cheese burger. I'm not a fan of sharp cheddar on a burger, but it wasn't too sharp and overwhelming. It's one of the better burgers in the area, in my opinion. The sloppy joe was "the sloppiest sloppy joe ever," according to my husband. It had a great flavor, nice consistency, and a good bun. I wish I could rate the food, but we didn't even get to eat. The entire restaurant was shoulder to shoulder. I understand that's probably part of the restaurant's appeal, but this was too much. There was hardly any room to navigate. Also, if you have to wait for dining arrangements, there are only two chairs and nowhere else out of the way to stand unless you go outside. Once we were finally seated, we decided to leave immediately because the chairs are SO UNCOMFORTABLE, and I'm fairly average size and height. For my boyfriend who is normal size but quite tall, he found the chairs unbearable. I looked around and could tell other people were similarly uncomfortable, as many were sitting forward in their seats. The food can be good all day long, but if people feel like sardines, there's nowhere to wait to be seated, and your seats are so painful we were willing to leave after waiting 20 minutes for a table... forget it! Size of the place is very small so you feel jammed in when they are busy, but unless they get another building they can t do anything about it.
