The best burger in Wheeling! Small place but you definitely are sitting in a gem that will not serve some thing that isn't delicious!

Wheeling, WV is a halfway point on a road trip we sometimes take, and it strikes me as a cute little Christmas village. I've been so impressed with the food in Wheeling that I was happy to find out about Avenue Eats this time around! I stopped here on the way there and back. The restaurant is on a corner and only has three dedicated parking spots, but there is easy parking to be found on nearby side streets. The weekday lunch crowd doesn't clear out until at least 1:30. The service was solidly average. On my first visit, I ordered the burger with brie, pear, and caramelized onions. The brioche bun was excellent, as was the burger itself (cooked just as I requested it). I liked all the toppings but wished the entire time that there were more--the flavors were overall very mild. On my second visit, I ordered the grilled cheese. I thought there was a respectable amount of cheese and the bacon was cooked crispy, although I didn't love the bread. Both times, the accompanying fries were fresh cut and mostly crispy. I wondered if such a place might have homemade ketchup, but they did not. Though I didn't order one, I found out that they have daily cupcake specials with fun toppings/ingredients. I would come back to Avenue Eats on another road trip for sure! read more

Great place to eat in Wheeling. Cozy little restaurant. I had the black bean sliders which were delicious--as several reviewers already said. The staff is wonderful. Very kind and accommodating. I came on a rainy Monday evening when not many people would brave the weather. They treated me like a queen. Definitely my highest recommendation. read more

I heard about this place from a co-worker. It was Ok at best. We sat by the Kitchen and it was very loud, heavy metal music playing and men shouting, not a very relaxing lunch. The chairs are horribly uncomfortable and the "Tap" water in a carafe is a nice touch but I felt like a child drinking from the little "sippy" cups they give you. My Chicken sandwich was OK.... Nothing that sets this place apart from anywhere else. The atmosphere is a little blah.. The high tables are very weird and awkward. As we were getting in the car, I noticed the kitchen door was opened - NO screen with trays of bread and cut fries sitting right next to the open door where the flies and the employees smoking were hovering... I have eaten here four times. It started as a great concept and my early experience was very good. That said, the product has gotten progressively worse. Quality control seems to be an issue. The seating is very uncomfortable. I may give it one more shot at some point but they really need to step back up to their early standard. read more

Ordered the pub burger medium well with a side of fries. Burger was well done and fries were over cooked. They tasted like the oil was too hot and they were kept in too long. In our usual manor while traveling, we sought out some local fare and landed this gem!!! I wish I lived closer so I could try more from the menu! I chose the Brie and Pear burger with a side salad and my husband chose a regular burger with fresh cut fries. Both meals were exceptional, and the service was as well! Ordered a regular bacon cheese burger, now the burger was amazing. So good I felt like Arsenio Hall at a whine and cheese party, pissed off cause the cheese is so good and no one told him. This place is a true local gem. I enjoyed a dinner here with my family during Thanksgiving week and all of us absolutely loved our meal. I ordered the grilled triple cheese sandwich with bacon, which was SO FANTASTIC! One person in our party had the breakfast burger and said it was one of the best burgers they'd ever had. The place is relatively small and was packed when we arrived, but we were seated within 5 minutes. The service was also fantastic - our waitress was one of the friendliest, sweetest people. We were staying at Oglebay Resort and one of the workers there suggested we try Avenue Eats for lunch. My husband and I both had the Pub Burger. It was delicious! The grass-fed beef is daily ground and the sandwich had a pub house cheese, bacon, fried onion straws and whole grain mustard on a brioche bun. We had the house fries with our burgers. My daughter swears by the award winning diner burger. I have gotten stuck on the mushroom Swiss and just can't tear myself away. The char, flavor and texture is the meat, just enough toppings to add great additional flavor but not become all toppings. I love that they let the burger be the star. Well that is until you try the fresh fries with the liquid gold they call gravy. Save a little and dip the last couple bites of your burger in the gravy, my tip. Hey you could also get a salad instead of the fries, but why in the world would you do that?!?!? We've tried the wings and they were great. The onion dip is really great, and the black bean sliders are delicious! They have a flatbread with goat cheese, arugula, and prosciutto that is a great appetizer. The patio has about 6 tables and is out front on a small deck. The burger meat is ground fresh there. If you want a medi burger, order it medium rare. read more

Stopped in recently for lunch. I had the lamb tacos and a side salad. Both were delicious! My only "complaint" about the lamb was that it was ground instead of cut meat like stew meat (I think it would have had a better texture in the tacos). I liked how I had the option of corn or flour tortillas. My husband had a chicken salad and it was also very good. My only complaint was the limited outdoor seating. In Wheeling, it's hard to find a good restaurant with ample outdoor seating (if at all) and I think they would be wise to extend their porch or add additional seats. The interior decor is modern industrial and charming. We had great service and the food was good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch, and will be anxious to try their dinner service in the near future. read more

I stopped in with my 10-month-old son and was happy I did. Every single thing on the menu looked good. I finally settled on the black bean hummus and fish tacos. Both were great. The baby even ate some of the pitas with hummus and liked it. The place was full on a Friday at 1:30 and I think the two servers were a little stretched.... They were very nice, but it was a little slow. Just maybe not a place to go if you're time-crunched. After a quick study of restaurant choices in Wheeling i picked Avenue Eats to meet half way with relatives from out of state. Two hour drive for both of us...so we were hungry and anticipating a good lunch....Avenue Eats did not disappoint....the service was outstanding and the food choices interesting and fresh....excellent coffee made one cup at a time.....and the cupcakes were an an added bonus....i am gluten free so i just watched the others enjoy theirs.....they were also very accommodating in making sure my lunch was gluten free.....hope to visit again soon... read more

Came here with my girlfriend in high expectations. She had the apple berry salad, which she loved, meanwhile I had the pub burger. The fries were average as well as my burger. The meat, although tender and juicy, was under proportioned to the bun and I found myself a lot of times just chomping on bread and mustard. The black bean hummus was good but overall high prices, mediocre portions, and seating arrangements are small. I may be back, may not all depends on how the old lady is feeling lol. read more

Start to finish this was a great dining experience. We sat outside on a gorgeous sunny day and enjoyed a yummy lunch. Tanya our waitress was kind, attentive and happy to roll with modifications to my salad. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Avocado was hard and she quickly replaced it with edible pieces. My colleague ate the mushroom burger and loved it. So happy that yelp put this place on the map. We were looking for a quick bite at Chipotle's and it was not close by. We loved this place! All the servers were very friendly. My husband ordered the Pub Burger with fries and I got the black bean sliders with fries and both were amazing. The fries are "real" fries, not frozen. I'm sort of a French fry snob and there wasn't one left on either of our plates! We had great service and were impressed with a small, but good beer selection.
