My fiance & I decided to come here after a long day at work. We wanted to sit outside so we could smoke and enjoy our beer. Unfortunately though, there weren't any seats available. We told the hostess that we didn't mind sitting inside and to let us know when there are seats available so that we can relocate outside. After 30 minutes or so, a teenage couple had left [there were many youngsters here]. We thought the hostess would come and get us but actually she let another couple sit in our seat. My fiance and I were shocked and furious! She had the worst attitude! Now I know for a fact just as well as everyone else that the hostess is the first person you meet and SHE REPRESENTS THE RESTAURANT. So basically the restaurant is perceived as a shitty one with her attitude and careless behavior. Well sweety I will not take your bull! I was furious! I couldn't take it anymore! There was another seat available 20 minutes later and once again my anger was growing. It's not that I have anger issues it's the mere fact that I felt unimportant as if the cafe was saying "Thank you for your money, here's the shitty service you're paying for" Finally I got upset, I asked the cute little waitress who was such a sweet heart and it must've been her first day but I was so furious here's why! I told her about the situation and she spoke to the hostess. Then she told me that the hostess told her that there weren't any seats available yet (NO SHIT) and that she will seat us right after she seats 4 other people. Okay so, I have been to a billion restaurants and when I was teenager I used to be a hostess so from both perspectives my experience tells me that: FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. I would confront the hostess but that is not my job I am a costumer, the waitress should know of this rearrangement. The hostess should have remembered this, it's part of her job! I'm not saying she should be a computer and memorize everything but at least invest in a 99 cent booklet and 99 cent pen and write down a reminder in case you feel overwhelmed or forgot. It was obvious that actually, SHE DID NOT FORGET SHE WAS JUST BEING A B*TCH! HER ATTITUDE WAS DISGUSTING! We spoke to the manager he was kind, he let us sit in a non-smoking section, he gave us two of our drinks on the house. It's not his fault he should depend on his employees but then again it is his fault because he shouldn't have people represent his establishment in the worst way possible. After this vibe... I'd like to see what else Astoria has to offer. read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Avenue Restrobar, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The lunch prefix for $20 is an absolute steal, and I couldn't be more impressed with the quality and taste of the food. To start, we had the hummus and the soup of the day, which was a delightful seafood soup. The hummus was creamy and full of flavor, while the seafood soup had a delicious depth of taste that left me wanting more. We also couldn't resist trying the spinach dip for $15, and it was worth every penny - warm, cheesy, and served with crispy Chips. For our mains, we shared the cheeseburger with fries and the chicken penne Alfredo. The cheeseburger was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, while the fries were crispy and well-seasoned. The chicken penne Alfredo was creamy, with tender pieces of chicken and perfectly cooked pasta - a true comfort food. But the pièce de résistance was the dessert. We shared the strawberry cheesecake for $12, and it was divine. The velvety, smooth cheesecake was beautifully balanced with the sweetness of the strawberries and the crunchy crust. I recently dined at Avenue Restobar and, unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Despite having a reservation, I had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated, which was frustrating. Once we were finally seated, the service did not improve. We waited a while before our server came by to ask us for our order. Then we waited over an hour for our food to arrive even though the server said 30 min. While the boss was very apologetic and offered complimentary desserts to make up for the long wait, it didn't quite make up for the overall poor experience. The food itself was average at best and not worth the extended wait. She offered free dessert which was actually the best tasting thing we had. Overall, I would rate this restaurant a 5/10. The complimentary desserts were a nice gesture, but the long wait times and mediocre food left much to be desired. The Valentine's day decor and music was good though. read more

Avenue cafe just reopened last year after a large renovation. I feel like it looked better with the old layout but it doesn't matter. When i go to avenue my ideal seating is outside when it's warm and maybe in the high tops near the windows when it is cold out. The menu is simple with a typical Greek inspiration. Standard bar food and burgers plus some great Greek dishes and simple sandwiches. Their brunch menu is great, with staples like avocado toast and smoked salmon eggs Benedict. They have a pretty limited collection of liquor-something that should be worked on-- they should look into hiring a mixologist-- it's important to stay on trend but we were glad to see that they had don julio reposado -/ we ordered Mexican miles and a few appetizers and we enjoyed our drinks and our meal. I hosted a professional brunch event and the team at Avenue prepared a really fantastic fruit platter with the works -- and on a tight schedule with a really packed house on a Saturday morning. A perfect splash of color and flavor to the buffet. The process of setting up for events like this can be very stressful, but the owner contacted me a few weeks before and also a day or two before the event to make sure I had what I needed for the brunch. It really made the preparatory process so much easier. A BIG HOLLAR TO YIANNI FOR BEING SO AWESOME AND HELPFUL! The food was mediocre at best and the service was slow. I ordered the breakfast burger and there was only cheese on 1/2 of it. It also had a glob of aioli sauce on one side of the burger. I could tell that the cook just slapped it together and took no pride in it. I tried my husband's sandwich and it was bland. As for the service, the waitress was okay, but she had so many tables that we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The busboy also only brought out only one water. How hard is it to assume that everyone wants a water with their meal?! Overall, there is no reason to go back here. It was a waste of $70 for brunch. read more

Tried this place one last time and I will not return. Both times, the waitresses were incredibly rude, probably because I'm American and not Greek or Serbian. My orders were prepared incorrectly and when asking to get it fixed, no one was around. On both occasions, I've seen the owner/manager either sitting on a laptop at the edge of the bar or smoking a cigar out front. Completely unaware of what's going on in the restaurant. Had he'd been involved with the customers experience, I would have given this place another chance. read more

Are you looking for a spot to sit, relax, and not be bothered? Avenue Cafe is the spot to do so. Though it might be constantly packed, the friendly staff makes you feel welcome. The food is always delicious, (ceasar salad, octopus salad, waffles, crepe, frappe and freddo- amongst my favorite) and there is usually timely service. Also it is now not cash-only. During the weekends there is a dj, and the music is pretty great, it gives you a feel of a club without actually having to go to one. read more

I have been coming to this place for years. The food is always right on the money...the service has always been decent and it definitely is a place that has a scene. It is very european and is more of a social venue to eat rather than a restuarant. If you want a place to eat drink and have fun, avenue can easily do it. I really like to go there to have coffee (i'm greek that is what we do) but their food is also excellent (their pizza is one of the best). They are friendly and the service is better than average. From the outside, it doesn't look very big, but once you wak in, the indoor seating is spacious. They also have outdoor seating available. There's also tv's inside if you want to watch something while you're dining. The service left a little something to be desired, but the food and portion sizes definitely made up for it. Looking over the menu, I was surprised by how much they offer. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. So there's a wide variety to choose from. I ordered the Beef Souvlaki Platter, which came with fries, salad and plenty of beef. It was very filling. One thing to note is that they charge a fee for paying with a credit card, so you're better off bringing cash if you want to avoid the extra charge.

Cozy but not cramped, cute little spot that's great for Summer relaxed vibes and munchies. They're specialized in Latino food and drink. They apparently have a whole flight of Margaritas and/or Mojitos to sample - I'd love to try one sometime, however yesterday I stuck with a regular Margarita and was pretty pleased. Clearly made in-house, none of the store-bought drink mixes or anything involved. My mom and I split a few appetizers between the two of us and were quite full, even had some food to bring home. Went with the birria tacos (solid), a trio of other tacos (steak + chicken + pork), and a plate of fried plantains with beef and mushrooms that was really fun - first time we'd had that, glad the waitress talked us into it. Everything came with home-made guac as well. They have a full bar with quite the selection of drinks, lots of Happy Hour specials up on the walls, and a solid, straightforward menu of additional appetizers and also burgers and sandwiches. The staff are super nice and upbeat. My Ma was buying, and I believe she spent about $85 for 3+ appetizers and a drink. Not exactly cheap but it you think of it more as a filling and fairly tasty lunch for 2, roughly $40 each - it's not bad at all. Will definitely come back and give that flight of Margs a try!

I was looking for a hot sandwich when I stopped upon The Spot cafe. Upon ordering I was debating…read morebetween lots of options. Until I just decided to get a Chopped Cheese with avocados and jalapeños on it. The young lady at front was very patient and hospitable. Cause I did take long to order lol. It was a 7 minute wait and I decided to dine in. I have to say my chopped cheese was definitely fresh and hot. I also had a seltzer water to acompany it. Overall ambiance was peaceful. Hospitality was on point. Great small spot!

The 5 star rating and reviews lured me in to finally order from here.....so disappointed…read more I was pretty specific on how I would have liked my egg cooked (since I normally don't eat them) I asked that the egg be well well done and brownish in color would be fine by me, which was a clear indication I like my eggs cooked well done. This egg was nowhere near what I asked for and I don't like my cheese laid on top of the egg once removed from the skillet......most people put the cheese into the egg before placing on the skillet. I also selected whole wheat bread and received white which I dislike and never eat. The sandwich after one bite was quickly thrown in the trash since food texture is huge to me and if any food feels slimy in my mouth I can't consume it. Gave one star because the coffee was at least good. Establishment taking out of the rotation of the places I order from moving forward.
