We have purchased some nice furniture from Avery Lane before, but my wife and I had a very poor experience today and won't be coming back. My wife asked a sales lady if she could buy two outdoor chairs from a set of four. In the five minutes my wife spent waiting for me to meet her and get my thoughts on the chairs, we were told someone just happened to call in over the phone by the same sales lady she spoke with, and purchased the chairs. Obviously the sales woman called someone else who had previously inquired about the chairs, let them know my wife was interested, and had them purchase the chairs. What a poor experience, and hopefully the store owner can understand that an experience like us will have us going to competitors going forward. We just moved to the area and have already spent thousands of dollars in Avery Lane before the poor experience today. read more

When I think of consignment furniture I think of a cluttered showroom with treasures buried within. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the Avery Lane Showroom. I saw a well merchandised, spacious and clean environment. My eye could easily take in all of the unique high quality merchandise which made it much easier to shop. I wanted to inquire about a leather sectional and she kept walking past me without so much a glance or smile, finally I asked her what the price was on it, she said she would need to check but then stopped to listen to someone playing piano in the store for a few minutes then finally she goes to check comes back gives me the price and walks off to talk to someone else. I have been frequenting all the consignment stores in the area and have had nothing but good experiences until Avery. The lady at the counter never greeted me or asked me if I needed help. Everything is WAY overpriced too. She's selling things that you can buy across the street at Lost and Found for $45 for $200. What a rip off. I'm surprised they stay in business. Having successfully managed to take down almost everything on my rather long list (aka I had nothing) of "move must haves" in the matter of 48 hours, the fact that I couldn't find just the right desk/vanity chair was starting to irk me. So much so I had declared myself officially on the hunt. By the next weekend, I had tried a few more of the regular spots and still hadn't found anything that really blew up my skirt. Refusing to be defeated or pay outrageous sums of money (I wasn't that frustrated quite yet) I busted out Yelp and did a search for consignment stores while I was out and about. Enter Avery Lane. It was easy enough to find off Greenway and parking was a breeze. I walked in with high hopes, and was immediately deflated. Everything was sooooooo well set out and displayed I figured it had to be one of thoooseee places. You know, the type where the proprietor won't talk to you unless you are spending thousands of dollars, not to mention everything in there is a)breakable b)out of your price range and b)you know it. Instant regret, but desire to not give myself away, forced me to make a cursory tour of the place where I was doing my best to not trip. Well, well, well. I got it wrong. Yes, there place is filled with pricey items. Yes, a lot of them are more Tuscan/desert/modern than my personal taste, and yes it is totally the type of place I would take my stylish aunt & interior designer cousin to impress them. But as it turns out, Avery Lane has a lot more variety than first glance would indicate, and that goes for price as well. Not only did I find the chair of my dreams, but I ended up with a fantastic decco set of lamps, beveled glass, and little french dressing room painting. Let us not forget to mention, not only was the proprietor the opposite of elitist she was also very willing to bargain without making me feel like a fishwife from market ruining high tea or somesuch. The Lane (as I now like to call it since it did me a good turn) is a gem for both the highbrow consumer and the champagne taste but beer budget crowd without offending either demographic. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for that special piece, or to avoid the cookie cutter options here abouts. Take your time, do multiple sweeps... you will start to see more and more. And by all means, don't hesitate to ask questions; the staff was not only helpful but genuinely friendly as well. read more

I bought an amazing map table, an awesome mirror, rugs, chairs and an array of objects, all well preserved and well priced. After I told her I was going through a divorce she told me that my husband was her client and that she would deal with him. Then she said it was a work day and she needed to hang up. Beautiful furniture but A. You will pay a high price for it...it is high-quality furniture for sure and furniture that was costly to begin with, but even her consignment price is on the high side. So if you are looking for a reasonably priced piece (one that the average person deems reasonable), you likely will not find it here. And B. It is true that the owner has attitude with those she doesn't maybe deem worthy or who rub her the wrong way. I have received the same cold and actually rude reception. I'm old school and believe in a warm and friendly welcome by staff for all potential customers...not just those who are well dressed, carrying a Gucci bag, or someone who has either consigned w her before or who buys often and buys her higher priced pieces. Had arranged with 2 employees and 3 phone calls to pick up my pieces a few days before my contract expired. Very specific date and time were discussed and scheduled. Arrived at the exact time this morning and my husband was negatively and unprofessionally greeted by the owner, Darlene, arguing that he wasn't expected and disputing the pick up of my 2 pieces. As a big fan of consignment furniture stores, Avery Lane is my favorite find this year. I understand the owner is a designer and it shows in the beautifully curated store. You really get the feeling you're in a high end gallery, but pricing is realistic and clearly marked. The vignettes are styled delightfully, and the store is fresh and clean feeling. In addition to the very large main floor, there is a fun backroom stuffed with slightly hidden treasures and a section of outdoor items just outside the doors. Some of the best pieces I've seen in Scottsdale are to be found there. It's refreshing to find resale items that have been vetted for taste and quality, avoiding the tacky turnoffs found at some of the other shops I frequent. With design trends focusing on carefully selected expressions of individual style instead of matchy-matchy excess, Avery Lane is a wonderful place to look for your home décor. Don't expect thrift store pricing, but the deals are pretty good. 1/13/14 I see another reviewer has taken a pot shot at my review of Avery Lane. I want to make it very clear that I am a customer with no connection to the business. I am a devotee of Scottsdale consignment stores and have reviewed several others. I'm surprised that the other reviewer had a disappointing experience but it can happen. Implying that my unsolicited Yelp review was a shill is unfair and inaccurate. I just wanted to put that out there. I stand by my review. The owner did do me a favor on my first visit. I found a random pot stand in the back room and she gave it to me for free because the pot it had held was broken. Nice gesture and a loyalty builder. Avery Lane is a class act. The furniture is displayed well and tho the prices may start a little high they are reduced quickly. The owner has wonderful taste and is very accommodating both in price and delivery. This place had beautiful used furniture. However, do not expect any great deals. Prices are the highest of all the consignment stores in town. Also, it's true that if you are dressed down, you aren't likely to get much assistance or cordiality. Also, if you consign there, be aware that if your item doesn't sell in a certain period and you don't pick it up by that time, it becomes the store's property. The owner is harsh. If you are a regular customer and she likes you, or if you have a lot of great furniture for her to consign, you get warmth. If you are not, you get an icy reception at best. The rest of the staff is quite nice however. read more

This store has the worst service it is terrible. My Sister consigned with Avery Lane and the never paid her they said her items were donated. She was in the store two weeks after she consigned and her items were no where to be found she asked the rude Lady who said we have no clue just keep looking they have to be some where. After several calls and getting the run around three months later said they donated the items. When she went in one of the clerks said this happens allot. I will keep you posted she is filing a court case. read more
