This is a great place for breakfast. For the vegans out there a two side of hashbrowns and veggies with pico and jalapenos is a go to choice. Really wish they accommodated a non-dairy creamer option. This is a small diner that serves breakfast all day and lunch starting at 11:00am. I ordered the biscuits sausage and gravy with a side order of hash browns. The biscuits sausage and gravy was okay but two biscuits in my gravy got cold. The hash browns were over cooked and too crispy. Our personal waitress was attentive but there was one woman who assisted our table who proceeded to tell us she had been to Port Aransas and Minnesota and she had never encountered black people with class and she was impressed by our level of class as "black" people. Didn't really know how to respond, so I just looked. Guess she failed to realize her lack of class in making that comment. Overall I wasn't impressed and most likely will not return. read more

Just plain nasty. Gave it a 2nd try after first was bad thinking they would have gotten better. Fried the food in old old oil and served cold. Sent wife's meal back only to get same nasty oil second plat. I ordered CFS with eggs hash browns. Again nasty old burnt oil. Also did not bring the hasbrowns or toast with meal. Said they were working on it. Got hash browns when we were ready to leave. Never got toast and hash browns were soggy when they did come. Nasty. Bye Avery's. I'm cooked on y'all. read more

Atmosphere was decent and food was average to slightly above. Blackened grilled shrimp po boy was average. Cheeseburger slightly better then average just not much flavor. Issue is this - 4-5 servers not one of them had a mask on or gloves. I'm ok without gloves if I saw one of them wash their hands or sanitize them. Nada! Wonderful experience!! Was packed when we walked in but we waited no longer than 10 minutes. Our food took a bit to come out but it's all fresh and our waitress never let our drinks run dry! She was fast and attentive to our needs, and always wore a smile, she recommended the cinnamon roll, and it was fantastic, not to sweet but not to plain. It was perfect. I have eaten breakfast here twice and lunch once. It is very good, home cooking style food. The waiter we had both times was friendly. The service was good. I'm excited to have a good breakfast place in town that isn't just breakfast tacos. I will say that the breakfasts are the types of things that you could cook at home but when we go out, it is for the experience. I don't necessarily need the food to be exotic or gourmet. Excellent breakfast on a Sunday morning! The restaurant was packed, but our wait was short and we got our food quickly. My egg white, spinach and mushroom omelette was delicious and the hash browns and biscuits were cooked perfectly. The perfect not so thick bun that was buttery and grilled. The amount of delicious bacon on my cheesy patty. Yum! Paired with crispy delicious hand battered onion rings! Second time I had their TX Sized Chicken Fried Steak. I wish I took a picture to show but I ate it too fast. Like... ALL of it. I ate the ENTIRE TEXAS SIZED meal because it was that good. Not to forget that my service has been amazing and Avery the owner is hands down one of nicest most genuine people I have ever met. He's in the kitchen himself making each meal to perfection. Yum! Avery's was our go-to spot in Port A and we are happy they were able to find a new home in New Braunfels. Spotlessly clean, and friendly. We had fish and shrimp. Excellent. They have a breakfast menu and lunch menu with the array of favorites. We miss our Port A spot but the food and service is still great! I'm sorry but I was not impressed at all. $44 breakfast for 2 of us. Waitress was never around. My coffee was always low. I now know why it's called "Avery's Kitchen." Anyone could have made what we ordered. It was very basic and for what we paid....not worth it. My hash browns were salty, biscuits were dry and bacon was over cooked. Felt totally ignored. Tried Avery's for the first time for dinner on a Friday night. (They are only open for dinner on Thursday and Friday.) I had hamburger steak and my husband had the chicken fried steak special. Both were well-prepared and tasty. The restaurant is new and clean and staff is friendly; Avery came to our table to check on us and tell us he appreciated our business. A great addition to New Braunfels! We ordered a large to go order on a Sunday morning and they were slammed. Bailey was very sweet on the phone and in person. They got our order out quickly and it was well-organized. The real deal though - the food was fantastic.
