I think it would have been a better experience for myself AND my kiddos if not for the staff member we had the displeasure of encountering. Let me explain... 1) we arrived prior to 10:30, but didn't get helped until after. When trying to order breakfast - we were rudely told that it was over. Fair enough - we were here though, and there was nothing displayed sharing that info nor the time. 2) for three kids and myself - it was nearly $80 and we didn't order the most expensive items. If I'm being honest - the food left much to be questioned. My sons asked for their burgers to be well done and came out medium at best. When my dessert came out (a slice of carrot cake), it toppled over on the plate and the server/host (a younger male) went to grab it with his bare hands. When I said please don't touch my food - he caught a bit of an attitude and huffed. 3) there was only one family there besides us and the dining area was far from clean. There were a couple of tables with dishes remaining on them (that were prime plane-viewing spots, but weren't available to use because of) no sense. As many times as I've been through Hooks - I'd not ever patronized Aviator's. So, as a first-time visitor, I expected more and better. Unfortunately, my children and I didn't experience what others have and as such - not sure we will return. Stopped by here yesterday for a quick lunch. I was craving a burger, and my husband wanted a chicken fried steak. I had never been here, so I was happy to give it a try. The restaurant itself is pretty roomy, and obviously you have a front row seat to view the planes come and go, which is pretty cool. The B52 burger was massive, and definitely enough for two people to split. The bun was out of this world, and came out fresh and piping hot. My husband enjoyed he is chicken fried steak which was also huge, and came with delicious corn and mashed potatoes. I will definitely be back the next time I'm craving a burger. I also saw a lot of families with children who were having a great time watching the planes, so it's a super cute spot. read more

We eat here 1-2 times a month because we enjoy watching the planes. They open at 8 am and every single time neither tea nor coffee is available or has been started. Most often must wait until the food comes before either is ready. The food itself is good, service is good, restaurant cleanliness is good but preparedness for the day is poor. Did you know that buns make a huge difference on the enjoyment of a burger?!... Did you know that when you top a salad with a breaded and fried chicken breast, I t's amazing with that breast is pecan crusted... As others have said, the AG has the feel of a 19th hole grill, but with a bigger menu. The food is competent, and while the kitchen isn't blazing fast, it's fine. There are many things I love about this place! First, the burgers. The burgers are awesome. I don't know what kind of bread they use for their buns, but I rarely find a bun that I like as much as these. The meat -- well, that's also good. I've also tried the wheat bun and love it just as much. Second, the experience. My three-year-old son LOVES to sit by the window and watch the planes and helicopters come in and out. We've seen US Coast Guard aircraft land here. We've seen a US Air Force Academy plane land here -- it is just so much fun for a child (and parent) to experience. To top if all off, the prices are not way up at cruising altitude. I've found that most of the menu is inexpensive. If you're near Hooks, go visit this place. When you get into the building, just keep going towards the back left corner and you'll find the restaurant. read more

This place is like a small diner. It's counter service meaning you order your food, then, it's brought out to you. It's a quaint place with a simple menu. I had pecan crusted chicken strips with mashed potatoes, which was tasty. The staff is friendly, and the view of all the planes parked, with some taking off and some landing, is a really awesome sight to see! read more

This is my go-to burger place! It's a good sized, good quality burger. What separates them from the typical burger joint is the bun. It is equally as good as the burger! I'm also a fan or their 'Flyboy', the chicken salad sandwich- on the burger bun. Prices are absolutely fair, considering the quality of food and the experience you get sitting in an optimal spot to watch planes land and take-off. read more

This place is a local institution--it's been profiled several times in the neighborhood newspapers over the years. I stopped in for breakfast on a beautiful Saturday morning. Breakfast is served on Friday-Sunday only, otherwise it is lunch only. And it is not for early flyers--opens at 8am. I came in for breakfast, which you order a la carte. Got a nice big one--a pancake, sausage, eggs, and toast, with coffee and orange juice. The pancake is of the large plate-covering variety--a pancake and coffee would fill you up for breakfast and set you back about $5. The pancake is the chewy variety--I like mine fluffy, but am told it is a matter of preference. The rest of the breakfast was competently made, nothing fancy but did the job. The coffee is Community coffee through a drip machine--there wasn't any ready when I ordered, but the server made it right away so I had it nice and fresh. Overall I would say it is like eating at a middle-class country club grill room. Nothing fancy (order at the counter, condiments and silverware sitting out for you to take, furniture is a bit shabby) and aimed at the convenience of flyers. But it has lots of outside fans--two families with small children came while I was there. Service was competent and reasonably prompt. The place is on the airport grounds, and the entrance is inside Gill Aviation. There's a sign outside, but once you get in it's not in sight and there are no signs. Bear left, then to the right down the hall. Restrooms are just outside and were very clean and ready, including a mouthwash dispenser. It's very reasonable, I felt like I got what I paid for. I pass by Wayne Hooks Airport all the time, but never thought I would stop by for a quick bite to eat. I see a small sign on Spring Cypress advertising breakfast and lunch at the airport and figured oh what the heck! Stopped by this morning for breakfast. There's no big sign screaming that there's a restaurant in the small airport. Walk towards the back and found the small cafe. Decor is very homely and down-to-earth with pictures of pilots, frames with aviation-related stamps, and pics of things that fly...of course. There were large windows so you can watch planes take-off and land...although I didn't see any in action this morning. A nice lady took down my order at the counter. Food came out quickly. My ham, cheese, and mushroom omelette came out piping hot and piled high full of eggy goodness. It was quite a sizeable omelette. Dab my bites with a bit of ketchup while munching on my side of 2 perfectly crispy strips of bacon and I was hog-on-high. I couldn't finish my hearty and delicious breakfast. Along with my OJ, it was a great deal ($5 for everything). Better deal than IHOP! The lady at the counter recommended I try their B52 burger for lunch some time. I'll definitely check it out to see if it stacks up against the burger at Southern Flyer (Brenham airport restaurant). read more

I'd love to give this place a better rating because my 2 year old loves watching the planes take off and land. The food is ok but what makes this place not that great for me is the lady that works the register on the weekends. She is rude, thinks she's being funny but she's not at all. While I was ordering, she cut me off with the words "hold up a minute.." What??!! I then watched her go out for a smoke while customers waited to order. I ordered an iced-tea. She responded, "we don't server tea until 10am. Oh, it's after 10am, guess I gotta make some tea now" and then walked away. We were there during the transition from breakfast to lunch and I watched her turn away four different families during peak business hours. Her excuse, "we're setting up the kitchen for lunch right now so we're not taking any orders for another fifteen minutes." They got disgusted and left. How do you turn away business?! Either she is just about the rudest, most socially awkward person on the planet or she has no back of house support. Meaning perhaps one guy on the griddle trying to cook everything. We went three weeks ago and the front was manned by high-school kids and we had excellent service. It's hit or miss folks. The only reason we go back is because my son loves to watch the airplanes and helicopters. If we go back and she's working I'm turning around and going to IHOP. read more

This little restaurant is located inside the airport's main building. Kids love it because you can see all the planes on the runway along with them landing & taking off. The food is mostly your standard southern country cooking. They have a good chicken fried chicken & chicken fried steak. Though after eating one of those I feel a serious nap coming on. Their burgers are also pretty good, the buns are kind of sweet, and you get sweet pickles instead of dill. I really like their salads too, they are huge and I don't feel weighed down after having that (unlike the monstrous chicken fried chicken). I don't eat seafood, but my friend has had the tuna melt a few times and he really likes it. When you order, all prices include tax so it always comes out to an even dollar amount. Pretty nifty if you want to pay cash (but they do take credit cards). I've seen this place near empty, and I've seen it with every table full. You just never know. Usually it's about 50-75% full and you don't have to wait too long for your order. I enjoy going here, it's always pleasant and it's different than the usual big chains. The food is always hot (or cold in the case of the salads). They have several different specials during the week, along with a soup of the day & veggie of the day. read more

Amazing food!!! I have eaten almost everything on the lunch/dinner menu and am impressed every time. If you like crawfish etouffe and blackened catfish- go on Friday as it is their special of the day- It is amazing!! They also have delicious burgers, they use these buns that just make the burger so tasty. Also request bacon on it, it is the thick bacon that complements the burgers. Chicken fried chicken is delicious and will leave you wanting more. Lastly- the pecan crusted chicken is so tasty! It is truly one of a kind. I had a burger and fries. The burger was a frozen patty and was cooked poorly. the fries were cold. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich. I'm obsessed with pulled pork, but I would have NEVER eaten what they brought. It looked horrific and was YELLOW. The place was filthy, the tables were sticky and the bathrooms were attrocious. Don't worry about slipping on the floors, your feet will be stuck to them with every step. The order taker was rude and told us to take a menu and step aside if you don't know what you want! We cleaned off our own table and sat down on. We walked in at 10:50 and told that they are not offering breakfast anymore. We ordered lunch after standing behind a airport employee who was shouting about a free meal and she was yelling back at him as her greezy 3 foot long pony tail was whipping around. Everytime someone came out of the kitchen they would inevitable hit someone with the two way swinging door with no apology. One time she came out screaming order numbers at the top of her lungs. Our 2 year old was upset about his drink and she told him to "Stop being such a grumpy pants"...she thinks she is really funny I guess. My wife was the lucky winner of garlic in her drink, to which the same lady said "Hell, that's not suppose to be in there" while she handed me a new cup without saying anything else. The food was not bad, the burger tasted and had the texture of a frozen patty. This is suppose to be a great menu item for them. The best part was when I found RAW FISH SCALES AND SKIN IN MY FRIES!
