I would leave zero stars if I could. I had to wait over two hours to get my car. Two hours! I've been renting cars for over 40 years now and have never ever ever had to wait so long to get a car. It dug into the time in which I was paying for the rental of that car. I don't understand how they stay in business. For a short plane ride, one might have to wait longer to get their rental car than it took to fly to the location! Also, I had reserved a Toyota Camry and they gave me a stupid Chevy. I thought maybe the line was extraordinarily long because of the big soccer games happening in Boston at the time, however, when I asked the lady at the counter if that was what was going on, she said no it's always like that in the summer here. None of the other car rental places in Boston had any vehicles available, so I think Avis must be the car rental place of last resort. read more

Received a dirty and smoky car. Was hard to see in the dark garage but once out in the light it was clear this car was not only smoked in but was not clean. Took pictures sent a email right away and took a day for the branch to respond. They said they would look for switch out options and call me back. Well of course they never did. It was a one way rental so they were clearly trying to get rid of the car. First time I ever rented a Mercedes with a "little tree" air hanging. Avis are you kidding me? Improve honoring reservations made two months in advance, have the proper van that was reserved and is supposed to be there and dont give it to another customer .. dont leave your clients stranded. Pay for the shipping costs of goods that dont fit in the tiny car we didnt order.Dont confirm rentals on the same morning of pickup when you dont have a car even though was reserved.Offer compensation for screwing up the rental reservation ...car assignment and stress of dealing with AVIS read more

No warning that they don't use debit card from the booking site. 800 dollar hold on a credit card in addition to the rental charges. Worst car rental experience ever, do not use them. Never had such ridiculous charges or transaction issues ever with Enterprise or other competitors. Have already called bank to preemptively have plans to dispute charges. Did a one way rental from out of state and dropped off at the Seaport yesterday. Super easy and convenient ( just know you have to go during open hours, there's no after hours drop off). Accidentally left my iwatch in one of the pockets or something. My gps told me It was in the seaport area so I figured it got lost in the car. I live local so I went by today and was able to pick it up no problem. The people at the office were so easy to work with when I dropped it off and when I came today. read more

How anyone can give this location more than 1 star would be generous at best. To have one agent on a busy Saturday with no keys readily available for clients who pre-booked is ridiculous. Spent over an hour in line to see the one agent, who seemed to fail to recognize the line that wrapped out the door. Highly undermanned. Avis needs to immediately revisit this location. read more

Terrible customer service. First, when I entered the office, despite the "Mask Required" sign on the door AND the local mask mandate, the guy wasn't wearing a mask. Never said hello. Never really spoke to me. Never went over charges. Never asked about how I want to do gas. Printed out a contract and put it down on the desk assuming I'd know where to sign it. Never showed me to my car. Just gave me keys and told me to go to the 7th floor, and "Flash your lights when you get to the gate so they'll let you out." I go up to the 7th floor. I have no idea which one my car is, so I press the keyfob until one of them blinks. I get to the gate - no sign of security around anywhere - and flashed my lights. Nothing. I called the Avis office, and he told me to keep flashing my lights, he'd call security. A few minutes later he called back: "Did they open the gate?" No. He called again. Eventually they did, but I lost about five to seven minutes sitting at that gate. Granted, the car worked fine - no issue there. When I returned the car, I had no instruction on what to do. I get back to the 7th floor, get my stuff out, and plan to return the key to the office. A guy appears and says, "Did you take a picture?" Like I know what he's talking about. He tells me to take a picture of the gas and mileage and leave the key in the car. I mentioned that I was going to return the key downstairs, and he flippantly says, "Oh yeah, and make ME go down there and get it." I ask him for instructions again - since I wasn't given any - and he points at his shirt and goes "See this logo? See this Avis logo? I work for Avis, get it? Take a picture..." At least the guy back in the office had a mask on and greeted me. But this TERRIBLE customer service means this first experience with Avis is my last. read more

The drop off location is very hard to find. It's in a whole other building, a block away. Makes you waste lots of time finding it. Real issue was when I went in to office to ask why the amount I was charged was greater than the amount I was quoted. I showed the attendedent the receipt and he said he didn't see any extra fees, wasn't sure what the issue was. I handed him the paper and asked "are you sure?" He said yeah. I pointed out that maybe it was under the section that said "extra fees" and the amount $25.09. Anyway, Avis if you want to hire me to teach your staff how to read their own receipts please let me know! read more

Next level unhelpful - they wouldn't take a debit card which is fine but said that they hadn't been doing this for over a year and there was no indication of this on the website - they sent me to another location that did take debit but this next location was rude and initially said they had cars but wouldn't give me one when they realized I'd come from another location. read more

Keep searching!!! Do not use Avis! Horrible, I mean horrible customer service. The woman behind the counter seemed bothered by us being there. I was told I couldn't use my debit/credit card as she tossed it on the counter at me. I said I didn't have another card and she said well you can't rent a car! Thank God my husband had a card with him. We were then told to take the elevator to the car, that the guy was getting it ready. We get off the elevator and don't see anyone. We do however hear the sound of a vacuum somewhere in the distance in this garage. After waiting a few minutes we hear a guy whistle and he tells us we can go where he is. So my husband and I carry out luggage over to where this guy is spraying a car down with a hose. Turns out that was our rental. I reserved this in plenty of time online. They should have been able to properly clean it especially during COVID times!! After he sprayed it off and we got in, we noticed how filthy this car is. Inside and outside. The windows were disgusting. Trash was left inside the car. A toothpick a wrapper and papers. The prior 2 people that have rented this car still have personal info inside the vehicle including their names and addresses. This is just ridiculous!!! Totally horrible experience and I will NEVER use Avis again! read more

This place is dysfunctional. The owner is never there doesn't help anyone with anything I worked there for six months it was a nightmare I did everything as a manager's position with low pay she was so cheap she wouldn't even buy a new vacuum cleaner I did all the cleaning and the vacuum cleaner wasn't picking anything up can you imagine??? The price that our company has negotiated with Avis seems very reasonable especially given this high-rent location in the Seaport. I do prefer the Entreprise nearby because the parking is easier to navigate. Some of the spaces in the Seaport Hotel garage are crazy small - even my little VW Beetle was hard to get into space 15 on P3 but that was the only space available. One other complaint is the office hours are written as opening at 8 AM but no one was there until after 8:20 today when I wanted to drop off my rental. You should probably just automatically use the drop box on P3 no matter what time it is to save yourself the aggravation of waiting in line or waiting for the office to open. read more

We rented a car in another location and were dropping it off at this Avis/Budget office. The address is not actually indicative of the office location (which is around the block), and nowhere online or on our return receipt did it give the location to the actual return garage. The garage also had no Avis or Budget signs outside of it, so there was no way to know where it was without calling. Once we were able to get directions to the garage to return it to, we couldn't find where to actually park the car. (The first pic posted was of the arrow pointing forward to where you could park the car, when in reality it was directly to the left, only marked by a very small sign on the wall). Overall it took us 20-25 minutes from showing up to actually figuring everything out. By that time we had missed the ferry we needed to be on. Avis could definitely do better in making this an easier location to drop off rentals. I would suggest calling them before showing up and get explicit directions beforehand if you do end up using this location. read more

The new lady here never wears a mask or takes it off to cough in front of customers. Not at all caring about social distancing. The reason I am renting is because of covid, but since she's the only person I have interacted with without a mask since March I have to stop going here. She is never prepared for you when you arrive and it takes forever to pick up or drop off a car. The other woman who was pregnant was awesome though she rules, hope she has a nice maternity leave. read more

I will not be renting from Avis again. This was just a terrible experience besides the fact that I did get a car for the weekend. I got there and was told it would be a while and I should have a seat. Everyone ahead of me in line seemed to be having problems with their credit cards and there were no cars to be given out anyway. We were told they were sending over 10 cars. Somehow I got "awarded" a car across town, and was put in a car to drive with an employee to the other location where there was a car waiting. It was a harrowing drive through Boston as there was a detour and he took us careening through an alley since he didn't know where to go. I finally got a car at the location near the Aquarium. It was filthy. The other woman on my odyssey asked for a clean car and was told they don't have a car wash and it was a dirty car or nothing. The car itself did the job. To add insult to injury, now that I returned home and got my receipt, they charged me for fuel service. I took a photo of the gas guage past the "F" line before I got out of the car and the guy didn't want to see it. But then they charge me for gas? It was full to the point over overflowing - literally - the shutoff didn't work on the pump. I don't even want to deal with them to try to get a refund. Booked a reservation online and had no problem finding the location. (Use Congress Street to reach the main office to pick up your car). Car was clean and brand new. Being our first time to Boston the staff gave several resturant and site seeing recommendations! Returning the car was a breeze, just enter the garage and follow signs for Avis Rental Car Return. I had a horrible experience! I rented a car on Sunday, May 26 2019 from 2 Seaport Ln, Boston, MA location. I was told by the Avis employee Iris that I could return the car that same day Sunday, May 26 after explaining that I only needed the car for several hours, she mentioned the office would be closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday but told me I could return the car to the garage and fill out the form that states time returned, mileage used etc. I returned the car by 11:45 pm Sunday, May 26 and followed instructions of dropping off the key and filling the form out. I then found out I was charged for an additional day and a late fee! I called to speak to the manager Diane DiGiacomo and there was no response. I had to go back in person to the office and Diane the manager still wasn't there but another employee called her and she said she would credit my account. I never received a credit and when I called corporate with the incident, they still didn't resolve the issue. read more
