Two stars for the convenient location adjacent to the Marriott. Even though they allow after hours returns at this location they don't make it easy. They blocked the parking area entrance with a sign and plastic traffic barriers. Had to move them to park the car in the proper place. 8 AM the next day came and went and still no receipt. Called National on the toll free line. They said the car had been checked in and I'd receive a receipt within an hour. Five hours later still no receipt. Went to the location in person around 2 PM and encountered two women in the booth They claimed they were working on the returns and finally issued a receipt. Certainly not my experience when I rent from Hertz. read more

Superb service. For being a member, got an automatic upgrade and, to a new vehicle. There are two things outstanding about this location: 1) if you plan ahead, like a month, you save hundreds of moola, almost $390, compared to a BOS rental; 2) Monica, the National agent in the lot is customer service personified. Listen to her checkout procedures, she answers most procedural questions just like an Enterprise agent (well they own National). Monica you rock!!! I may never rent at BOS again. Thank you so much for caring even in 35 degree weather. Tip: Rental cars are expensive at BOS, take the T to the Aquarium stop from BOS and National, Alamo, Budget, Avis are 3 short blocks away. Usually, I don't have many nice things to say about rental car experiences. But I am writing this review because this one is indeed an exception. We arrived the day after Christmas just before they opened at 8a. It was freezing outside so we tried to time it perfectly. Apparently we walked too fast though, so got there quickly. The gentleman working though opened up and let us in a few minutes early (major brownie points there). He then managed to have us checked in and on our way in less than ten minutes - and was friendly the entire time. Despite the up-selling on the insurance etc., it never felt like he was selling anything. We asked questions and made the choice without feeling pushed. Because of our experience with this location, we will likely look straight to National in the future. If all managers are as professional, pleasant, trained, and fast as this guy - and you get the car you signed up for - it creates a very good experience. read more

What an easy check-in, check-out, and overall car rental experience this was. I chose this location as I was arriving by bus to South Station, and it's only about a 10-12 minute walk up Atlantic Avenue to this location. The pricing for a weekend rental (full size) was also very reasonable. When I arrived, the front desk clerk was super nice and helpful. I only needed to hand over my license and credit card, and the rental was pretty much ready to go. They didn't haggle me about adding extra insurance (I usually just use what's offered on my credit card) and didn't pressure me to buy extra gas, etc. I declined to buy the tank of gas outright, since I wasn't travelling much over the weekend. The entrance to the garage is around the corner from the actual storefront, and the guy in the garage was also super nice. He let me pick out any full size car there, and I was able to snag a Chrysler 300M, which is a sick ride. The National cars are on the 7th floor of the garage, so going up and down took a little time. My return was also super easy. I returned the car with using about 1/4 of a tank of gas, and was only charged what I thought was a reasonable amount for the gas ($4.04 a gallon, which is roughly about $.75-$1 more than the gas station). In sum, if you're looking for an in-city rental, National was amazing! read more

This is my very favorite place to rent a car. I sold my car almost a year ago and it was one of the best decisions ever. But now when I want to go home/someplace not T accesible I head here. The cars are parked in the parking garage near the Aquarium and the office is right next to 7-11 on Atlantic Ave, also about 2 blocks from where I work. There is a lady in there that is super nice and always remembers me. Last time she added someone as an extra driver with no charge. Normally they don't have the smallest cars so if you make a reservation for one you'll automatically get a free upgrade to whatever they have. If you reserve the car until 9pm but don't return it until 2am they don't charge extra because they close at 6 and only check to see if you returned it in the morning. They also don't charge any deposit on your credit card for renting, they just hold the amount of the rental until the end. If you go to fatwallet.com you can find crazy discount codes to always get a good deal. It's so much easier than the airport to get into and out of. I highly recommend it if you need a car for a weekend trip! read more

Super pleasant and helpful staff. I was even early to pick up the car and they gave it to me about 20 minutes ahead of my reservation. The lady at the desk offered to print me directions from Mapquest. I was a little confused about returning the car (they ask you to put your keys in an envelope but don't give you an envelope) but everything worked out okay (I just threw the keys in the return box). You know what, National gets an extra star for customer service. My boyfriend (aka Never Allowed to Drive my Rental Car Again) totalled one of their cars last year, and they *still* let me rent from them. Heck, they even treat me like the valued customer who gives them hundreds of dollars each year that I am. Buy, beg, cheat, or steal your way into their Emerald Club - it's worth it. Now, not only do you get free additional drivers, free upgrades, and occasional free days, but you also get to go up to the parking area and choose whatever car you want out of their Emerald Zone (or whatever it's called). This means that the days of being saddled with an orange HHR are over. The downsides are that it's not terribly convenient if you don't normally have business downtown (the Blue line? ugh.), and being in Boston, they charge you the $10 Convention Center fee on every rental, on top of taxes and fees and surcharges and so on. But they've been surprisingly good to me. read more

This National Car rental outlet is on the 9th floor of the ugly government parking structure. Once you get there (easy to find from the elevator landing), the service at the counter was friendly and to the point. I had booked a full size car and drove off with a Ford Edge, which was a great car in excellent condition. We were out of there in under 10 minutes. We spent a few days in Boston before going out of town, and the prices for renting in the city are of course a lot lower than when renting at the airport itself. Luckily you don't need a car in Boston, so we saved good money. Driving out of the parking structure is a bit of a chore as it's down from the 9th floor of this ancient ugly parking garage. For the return, take note of the entrance address, which isn't the same where you walk up to get the car. Once you have that covered, it's easy enough to drive those 9 stories up again. The return process was extremely efficient, and 1 minute later I had the e-mail confirmation that all was settled. The only strange thing is that I turned out to be under-insured. The on-line booking included LDW but not 3rd party liability. When I asked if all was covered, the girl did mention the LDW, but not that TPL was missing. No I don't know whether that's because of our company's policy or something else, but it was strange in an age where up-selling is the norm. read more

I am a traveling consultant so I rent cars on a weekly basis. I have rented from Boston Logan National for 3 years straight on a weekly basis (along with many other co-workers ( = lots of revenue for National). I picked up my rental on Sunday (picked from the VIP section as i usually do -- picked a CL250 Mercedes. Monday evening, the car panel displayed a message that the Tire Pressure Sensor Missing ( the front driver side tire). I called the Roadside Asst about 5pm. The woman taking the call appeared to be really frustrated and inconvenienced when I told her- "as an Executive Elite member, i need a replacement car delivered to me". She kept telling me to take it back to the airport or to the nearest National location. I had to tell her numerous times - No. She finally took the information to have a car delivered to me. I specially asked for a fairly new car and in the same class as the one i was driving. The tow guy arrived at 815pm at the hotel with NO replacement car. He said he was going to Logan to pick up the replacement and then come back. I told him to leave the keys with the hotel front desk as i would be asleep by the time he returned. To my "pleasant" surprise this morning 12/18/18 - I get into the Infiniti car, turned on the car and had to do a DOUBLE take at the mileage. I thought my eyes were seeing extra digits.....but no.....it had 50,085 miles....that is FIFTY THOUSAND miles. This was the winner of all times for the most miles on a rental. I thought 30k was extreme..guess not! Very nice to know the kind of care taken in accommodating their elite members in the kind of situation is was in..... Only good thing I have experienced here in the 3 years of renting, is the woman attendant I usually encounter weekdays before 5pm -- she is awesome, accommodating and recognizes the frequent renters -- nice touch on her part! read more

We rented at this location instead of the airport to save on taxes and fees. Our plane then ran late and it was going to be tight to get there before closing time. I called a woman named Monica answered and said she would stay open 15 minutes later. When I arrived she couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. Really above and beyond service. Agree with the two reviews below. The manager here (can't remember her name) is superprofessional and takes her job seriously....and the entire office is very efficient. Even when there are 4 or 5 parties ahead of us, we've never waited more than a10-15 minutes to rent a car. The after-hours drop off is perfect for coming back to the city late at night after a day trip and takes a lot of the stress off trying to return the car by a certain time. The cars are all kept in the top floor of the parking structure for the Aquarium, and the location is ideal for getting onto the 93 freeway. read more

Had mechanical issue with rental car and was brought to this Atlantic Ave location, manager came out and told me he was sorry but I had to go to a different location to pick up my replacement car- AFTER tow truck driver had dropped me off and left! When I went back to counter (because they told me to find the tow truck), they said 'sorry we can't help you'... I went back outside to see if truck came back for me- no go, so I called the 809 roadside assistance again and after a long wait, they were finally able to get me a car at the location I was at. This is perhaps the best National Car Rental location in the United States. The reason is the manager. I believe her name is Monica, and she really does do the very best that she can. Sure, she may have had a bad employee here or there, but overall she runs a tight ship. She and her team make sure each car has what it needs before it goes out (ice scraper, windshield washing fluid, etc.). She and her team let you pick the appropriate car within the appropriate category (vs. just assigning you a car). I'm an Emerald Club member btw. Anyway, whenever I need a car rental in Boston I go out of my way to rent from this National location. I've probably ranted from this location 20+ times over the years, with every situation handled almost perfectly. National is very fortunate to have Monica as a manager. I live very close to this location and do not have a car, so I tend to rent a car from this National location several times a year. In addition, I rented cars for approx, 160 days last year. The staff and customer service is fantastic...everyone is very friendly. So why only 3 stars? My question with National is why, as an Executive Elite can I not select the vehicle that I want. In this location, they always pull 4 mid-size vehicles up and are VERY insistent that those are the vehicles I can choose from. As a fan of the SUV, especially driving into the mountains or during bad weather, I have to struggle with the staff to even consider it. The latest reason is that all SUVs have too many miles on them for Executive Elite customers and they want us to have the newer cars with less than 5,000 miles on them (of course the Malibu has less than 5,000 miles). Ok, it's a strange reason, but I finally gave in one day, and got into one of the the 4 chosen cars and it had 16,000 miles on it. This was very odd...if the SUVs are rented already, just be up front about it.... For this reason, it takes away from the customer service, because it always feels like a battle to get a car I want...and a battle that I often lose. read more
